Ok, so the first thing that most modern gamers will notice is that "Sun Age" is a CD-ROM rather than a DVD-ROM and that while most blockbuster game releases now require 5+ GB of hard-drive space, Sun Age could almost fit on a floppy disc (not really, but you get the point). Don't be put off by this, because this game does deliver. The Premise: The Sun Age is upon the earth and the solar system is dying; what once was is now turned into a variety of desolate wastelands being fought over by 3 races of survivors and alien beings...... erm, that's basically it! But again don't be put off because the simplicity of this game is what saves it. First you choose which race to fight with - you can be Human Federals, part of the mutant Raak-Zun or the more sophisticated Sentinels - and then battle to secure the last resources from Earth, basically in the same way you would position troops in Red Alert or LOTR: Battle For Middle Earth. There are added narrative elements however; for example, if you choose to be a Sentinel you will be able to use futuristic state-of-the-art technology to open gateways to an alien planet rich in the resources you need to survive. Plus, there is also an ongoing mystery in the game surrounding a monstrous creature that is just waiting to be discovered. So, a small-sized game that delivers more than most would expect; it is original, fun and relevant to world affairs (dwindling resources being fought over - ring any bells?), and even better is is laptop friendly, so you can take it to play on your lunchbreak or you train journey home. I give this game four stars for its over-achievement. Oh, and its dirt cheap as well...

This review comes from my sons (age 11 & 14). This is a real-time strategy (RTS) game set in a futuristic earth where the sun is in the process of dying. Civilisation has been reduced to a few humans who live in domes and are fighting against mutant humans and a robot race to escape from earth and gain control of a paradise planet.Gameplay is good and the graphics are excellent. It runs smoothly on our Vista PC. The interface and movement are a bit frustrating at first if you are used to Age of Empires or other empire-building strategy games. But once you get the hang of it, it's fine, and the three different races provide plenty of interest. You can play in campaign mode, where you have to unlock the other races,or in skirmish mode (either on-line or against the computer), where you can select any of the three races straight away. The skirmish mode against the computer is a bit tricky to find at first - you have to go into 'multi-player' then select 'host skirmish', then set the map and rules you want to play, then choose 'create game' and then at this stage you have the choice of selecting 'open' (for on-line) or 'computer' to play against your PC. Apart from the obscurity of the computer skirmish mode there are a few other minor niggles. most notably that the campaign missions are quite long and challenging and there are no save check-points. But overall they don't stop this being a very enjoyable game.

First impressions of this game is that is is rather old fashioned, the cover picture art and the in-game art reminds me very much of games from the 1990's. though this is not necessarily a bad thing, it gave me a rather nostalgic feeling. The game itself is similar to Warcraft and Command & Conquer in that you lead a squad of men defending a base. The graphics are not outstanding but they do their job and outstanding graphics is not needed in such games.I found the tips a little annoying, instead of grabbing my attention and telling me what I needed to do they got in the way and made it so I just wished to get rid of them and play the game.It uses a fairly standard method of selecting your troops and moving them and making them fire. This is probably a good thing for those who play this sort of game a lot.I think this game has the potential to be quite addictive in its own way especially with multiplayer online and though it might not be as good as some of the leading games in this field it is enjoyable enough. At the price this is going for I would recommend buying this game if you are interested in this genre.

Sun Age is a futuristic strategy adventure game in the same vein as classics like Cossacks. You control various units, from individual soldiers through to unit formation and various land and air craft. There are numerous gameplay options, including play against other human oponents via the web or network, through to combat against AI. There are four races to champion, depending on your preference, and each has unique combat and unit characteristics.Gameplay is fast and furious. Each unit is well drawn in the 3D landscapes, which are also well crafted and expansive enough to keep most players happy for some time.I found support of the game to be second-to-none - and I was really pleased to see regular updates and downloads posted on the game website. If you like games such as Cossacks, you'll like this.

Sun Age was pleasant revelation. Not to complicated to master and quite intuitive in gaming. For a PC game a worthy contender for PC games.
