Like its predecessor, this second instalment in the Command & Conquer series received high critical acclaim. In between the original game and Tiberian Sun, the Westwood Studios team had created the spin-off original Red Alert, and had been bought out by EA Games, still a global gaming industry giant. Sun and following instalments have attracted certain criticism from gamers following the change in management, but do the sequels live up to the originals or have they gone down in quality?Sun draws in an interesting mix of acting talent, and its obvious that, compared to the original C&C wher ethe budget was tight, a big effort was made to create a visual story to accompany the action. This was a mixed success in my judgement. There was undoubtedly a touch of over acting here and there from the bit parts, and a few times from Michael Biehn, but Joe Kucan is Kane, and Frank Zagarino and Monika Schnarre were deliciously evil as Slavik and Oxanna. Tiberium played a much bigger role in proceedings, and the inclusion of the third faction of the mutant Forgotten provided a clear demonstration of its effects as well as adding to the complexity of the story. That said, there were certain plot points which frustratingly were never fully explained. What is this divination process, for example? Why is Nod interested in it and what do they hope or believe it will achieve? I got the sense that the divination process involved injecting or exposing people to tiberium - but this makes the Forgotten terminally sick, and surely Nod doesn't have or indeed want sick, weakened soldiers? The graphics are pretty good, if dated, but don't feel too blocky or grainy at all. The interface sticks to the tried and true sidebar with select and click commands via mouse. The best improvement on the original is that you can stack up unit build commands up to five in a row, so whilst you're waiting for five titans to build you can grab your orca bombers and focus on taking down specific Nod defences, and when you come back the titans will have been built for you without any further input. It still felt like tiberium collection was fairly slow. On some missions I had four or five harvesters gathering tiberium at once and occasionally I'd still have to wait for funds to come in, which slowed the mission down. The campaign is truly epic in scale with its 18 missions for GDI and 17 missions for Nod - provided that the player takes every opportunity of completing the optional missions that is. In certain places, as in the original game, divergent missions are offered in which only one or the other can be selected for completion, meaning that the game offers notable replayability. Another great improvement is the revamping of all the units and buildings afforded to each faction. There's barely a sign of conventional warfare here, as GDI and Nod each wield their own futuristic, though reassuringly familiar, units and technologies. Tanks in the GDI faction have been replaced with massive armoured robot walkers, and though the Nod tick tank is a bit more well-known to the eyes, it can transform at a click to an entrenched turret. Long drawn out missions which require you to spend time building up your forces and slugging it out with the opponent are balanced by small team infiltration type missions where successfully navigating your way across a map crawling with enemies before the time limit runs out provides a fast paced change of action. Each and every mission is different, presenting tricky new challenges, and whilst the first couple of missions are reasonably easy, the trickiness soon ramps up.So how does Sun sit within the series? The wacky storylines and colourful, imaginative technologies from Red Alert 2 and 3 place them at the top of the pile in terms of sheer fun - but the originals of both C&C and Red Alert are, if more sparse, truly classics. Sun offers more entertainment value than C&C, but certain points of the plot could be a little clearer, and in certain places the media is a mixed bag of good and bad points. Overall I'd say Tiberian Sun delivers through the sheer length of its campaign and the redevelopment of a more focused futuristic ambience and storyline, combined with completely reworked tech and an enhanced interface experience.

Review updated 30-09-2012Command and Conquer Tiberian Sun is still one of the best RTS Games I have ever played. Yes, it was hyped up more than deserved in magazine reviews and it was delayed for 2 years from it's first initial release date but most games are, at least good games are that have no bugs, glitches or limited gameplay. You get to play great games - every mission is a challenge and great fun with a story line. The storyline with all C&C Games make it what it what it is. This game has brilliant graphics too.I just wish EA games made more games as good as the Westwood Studios had made. EA games tend to mess with things and make them worse as a result, often ignoring their gaming fans.Note to EA: we love the games, not you! And hate you when you mess them up, profit driven greed and lack quality. The worst C&C game is C&C 4 Twilight. I do not even own that game because to me it is not a C&C game. Now EA games want to milk C&C fans using free play games engineered to make you purchase funds! They just tagged on that they will make more money by doing MMORPG games by getting you to spend multiple amounts adding up more than a game cost would, over the months and years you play online! If you do not pay you stand to be disadvantaged. In Tiberiun Sun you still have to decide which side you play evil v good - NOD v GDI and you still harvest Tiberium for credits and get to train advanced new military units and soldiers. Some of the machines, buildings and advanced tanks were never to be seen in the final game but this was down to the hype that was in the game reviews before the game had been released.I waited for this game several years and was not let down. Game expectations were high for me but I doubted some even though hype was enormous. If you enjoy playing RTS Games in the New World Order then this won't disappoint you.Welcome to the New World Order. No other strategy games compare to this one, there are many I have played years later and none have matched this yet. I doubt any ever will. Yes I am a big C&C fan with good reason.New units and options bring new strategies to gameplay, after you have completed all missions you will be wanting more. This is one addictive game and great fun. C&C series did firestart RTS games off to a good start.

Maybe I'm not the best person to review this game, or indeed, any game of any kind. After all, my collection is incredibly limited, and I only tend to play a game once every six months or so in order to unwind.Technologically speaking, you could say that I'm a dinosaur, forever lagging five or ten years behind. Because at the end of the day, I'm only ever interested in what I actually want or need. I don't care about fashion or the latest trend, and I don't automatically leap to the conclusion that something is 'Superior' because it is 'New.'I don't want or need 'Blue Ray' or 'Hi-Def,' an 'I-Pod' or a mobile phone which can take videos, edit them, add special effects and upload them on Youtube. And since I already know which games I actually 'Enjoy' playing, (very occasionally,) I have no interest in X-Box 360's or the latest high-budget game. From the perspective of the 'Hard-Core Gamer' of course, I would assume that 'Tiberian Sun' and most of the other games which I enjoy would rank alongside 'Space Invaders' or 'Pong.' But having played some of the later games in the 'Command & Conquer' series, I think that 'Tiberian Sun' is ultimately superior because the enemies are more difficult to beat.As I said before, I only play this game every now and again and I always play it the same way; selecting 'Skirmish Mode,' setting the AI level to maximum and attempting destroy my foes. So because the defensive weapons in this game are more powerful, I find it much more of a challenge.'Red Alert 2' for example is always a severe let down because the computer opponents only ever try to 'Attack.' They barely make any attempts to defend their own bases, and so I always defeat them with ease."Offence May Win Battles, But Defence Will Win Wars."So if in the end, you share my need for a real gaming 'Challenge,' then I would definitely recommend 'Tiberian Sun.'In fact, the only note of caution I would raise is that unlike the majority of its successors, 'Tiberian Sun' does not give you the option to save a game in progress. So much like 'Jumanji,' "Do Not Start This Game Unless You Intend to Finish!" But in spite of this quibble, I will stick to this game unless there's another that actually challenges me.

Take me back to when I was 10 years old and playing Tiberian Sun on my Dads out-dated PC, trying to work out how to play the game. This game features two immense campaigns which tell two sides of a futuristic story about rebellion and government intervene. Nods; who are displayed as the ruthless rebels looking to end the GDI control over most parts of the world, working towards a complete tiberium dominated world; provide a really fast paced arsenal and brutal story. Whereas GDI have the strength and power to settle a fortress and stand their ground, with unmatched air support and rail-cannons these are guys pack a punch. As well as the two campaigns, you have the skirmish option. This is great as you have no limits to your build quantity and you can play as long as you want and turtle the enemy until you have a force which covers half the map. Also a perfect training ground before you play the guys online, although the online option on the CD is not working (for me anyway), search online and you will find a few easy downloads and play via a mini server; btw I don’t like risky downloads, but this wasn’t at all risky it was safe and easy to do.Overall the game is a classic to anyone who plays it, if you haven’t even heard of it I envy you as this is an experience you are going to love, as long as you like you C&C style strategy games. After you are done with this I highly recommend the Firestorm expansion and from there the Tiberian Wars sequel. Love this game, thanks Westwood for being a part of my childhood.

Tiberian Sun is one of the first of the Command & Conquer series but is no less challenging than subsequent C&C games. Since it is a relatively old PC game it does not demand a great deal from your PC and is an excellent introductory game to those not familiar with PC games. It is set on Earth and is played in the third person i.e. you command your forces from an elevated perspective. There are 16 missions to complete and each mission gets gradually more complex as the game progresses. If you fail to complete level 3 you cannot progress to level 4 and so on. A good tip here is to try each level on 'easy' before aiming for 'hard' as this will give you an excellent idea of what to expect in the more difficult levels. Most missions require you to build a base, amass an attack force then unleash its diabolical firepower on some very aggressive enemies. The soundtrack is eerie and atmospheric and helps sets the tone for each level. Many of the levels are genuinely challenging and you'll pull your hair out trying to figure out a strategy to get you through. Another good tip here is to save your game regularly so that you won't need to go back to the very beginning of a mission if you try a strategy that fails.Forces at your disposal range from armed human personnel to fighter bombers and if you're going to complete all 16 levels you'll need to use the lot! Games don't get much better than this.

It's probably the best game of the lot for me, i like its dark moody feel, the graphics are about right and the difficulty setting is a monster which makes it enjoyable.Set after Kane's downfall on TD the GDI has been making impressive inroads into NOD controlled regions while NOD tries to keep all its territories in check since Kane left the group. Various leaders in the group want to seize power creating a vacuum. This game is freeware and can be downloaded from Command and Conquers own website under the classics section.

Command and ConquerOh the scares you have causedWestwood made you and you were incredibleEA bought you, released Red Alert 3,made you look pretty and added women in the FMV sequences wearing hardly any clothing in a bid to somehow make war sexyThen eventually they released Tiberian Twilight which is absolutely amazingBut for meIt all began with Red Alert 2 and Tiberian SunWhen C And C was still made by WestwoodThis game is absolutely incredibleRuns on most PCs and laptopsJust a pure stroke of gaming genius

I have many fond memories about the game, and I still like it. The AI on, for instance, harvesters isn't very good, but it was good for the time, and can still be tolerated for the full experience. The graphics suit the game as well, since it is made as if you watch things happen through a command screen in an orbiting ship or something like that. In that respect I find them very complementary to the style of the game!

Two disks, two playable factions: A conquest of post-apocalyptic earth. This is a great battlefield simulator with awesome FMV but unfortunately it was before the HD revolution but, it really is, ALL-about kick-a**. Works fine for Windows Vista but if you use a powerful computer (like me); you might need to turn down the mouse speed. "¡Andale! ¡Arriba! ¡Andale! ¡Andale!" -Speedy Gonzales quote (Loony Tunes).

This game far out does any of the other C&C games and is really one of the best games of it's type. Will you take up NOD or GDI in the fight for Tiberium. Mission mode is good and with the expansion pack it's much better but nothing can beat Skirmish one on one against the cpu. If you want you can also play online with people around the world.

I first played this around one of my friends houses I knew from the begining when we clicked on it, i knew it was a great game we played it for hours on end the graphics are great and the choice of weapons and veicles. You can siege, capture and run citys this is a great game i advise anyone to get it!

29.10.2005

Good game.. I was a bit dissapointed when I bought this as I was expecting a lot more (the hype surrounding this when it was released a few years ago was a lot). However, once you start playing, the dissapointment vanishes.. The game is superb.

An old favourite bought to replace a damaged CD and still as good as ever. I hadn't played the game for a while and got the same enjoyment as I originally experienced when first installed.

My husband loves this game and it kept him occupied for a month while I was away from home. It is exciting, frustrating, but still easy to play. One can actually beat the computer!
