Steel Diver is an original action/simulation title which is challenging and addictive, it's just a shame it's so short. The visuals are very pretty and resemble a digital fish tank when the 3D effect is cranked up, creating a beautiful watery ambience. The levers and buttons touch screen control system is neat and very rewarding when you begin to get to grips with its subtleties, demanding your utmost concentration while you carefully guide the three different vessels through the perilous water caverns. The game's audio is also great with realistic water noise, radar beeps and speech samples adding to the sensation of piloting a sub through the depths. In addition, there's a periscope mini game that gives a nice demonstration of the 3DS's gyro sensor, having you whirl around frantically trying to locate and torpedo ships. It isn't significant enough to flesh out the core experience but represents a fun diversion. In a nutshell, if you are intrigued by the premise of a technically solid, original and sedately paced action sim and enjoy replaying levels to achieve higher scores then chances are you could really like Steel Diver (I certainly do). The content that's here is good, but will understandably leave many a gamer aggrieved by its scantness, particularly given that it's a full price title.Edit 19/09/11I'm still playing Steel Diver regularly and have only managed to beat a handful of the development team ghost subs, but keep trying!

So basically in this game you control submarines over a variety of missions. On each mission you can pick from one of 3 submarines, (1 being highly manoeuvrable, 1 a good all rounder and 1 being best in combat). There are 8 missions in the campaign which take about 5-20 minutes each to complete. For 100% completion you will need to play each one with all 3 subs. Which effectively means you play 24 missions. Once you've completed the campaign you unlock a harder mode. Same levels but much harder. You will have to try many times to beat the game on hard mode. Once you have done that you also have a time trial mode, a periscope strike mode, and a battleship type game.Although an experienced gamer will storm through this in just a few hours, in order to complete totally, this game will keep you busy for week(s).Graphics: This game has great graphics accompanied by good submarine sound effects. 4/5Story: Incredibly basic and short. There is no real story to this game but this doesn't subtract from the fun 2/5Length: Pretty short (few hours) but for 100% completion: days or even a week.Age Rating: Although this is rated 7+ I see no reason to prevent a younger child from playing. There is no violence or strong language. I guess its rated 7 due to the fact that your sinking subs, which in real life would rack up quite a body count. To conclude, a really good game as long as you get it cheap. Short but good fun. Overall 4/5

First of all I will tackle the elephant in the room, it is apparently a 'short' game. No, it is not, there are 2 modes in the main game. Firstly there are 7 missions each with 3 subs to complete, so 21 missions and an additional mode which is much harder.Secondly, it isn't a full price release anymore, it is now about a third of the price of a full price release, possibly less.Yes, the main mode is short, but its fun and cheap now

Ill admit i thought the 3ds was overpriced and a little gimmicky, but at its new price point the system should bounce back from a poor/slow first release. If only the games would drop a little in price. Steel diver was/is a great game, but at launch at 30 bucks it was a little overpriced. at 20 or lower its a great value!

This game is so addictive! Just played it straight through for about 8 hours, and after writing this intended to try out the advance wars esqe multioplayer. While not for everyone, the challenge and great 3d in this game (especially in the awesome periscope mode) make it one of my favourite 3ds games!

Very short game.Graphics are good.Gameplay very interactive.Gyroscope is used to shoot water surface targets. What I did not like is the time ticking off when playing as you are then playing without enjoying the scenery.

Some say this game is short, but in my view most games are drawn out and stretched so thin they become a chore.Neat game, fun and tactical.

Great Game, I bought it for my son aged 7 (he loves it). I have played it and I love it aged 36. A great game at a great price!

this appeals because of the way it reminds me of the old school gameplay like battletank but with a modern and 3d twist

not too bad - controls are a little tricky and there is not much variety.
