I have two of these in different sizes and wouldn't be without either of them. Although names like Le Creuset are better known, Staub is one of the top ovenware brands, every bit as prestigious. I was able to chuck out a lot of old and very second rate oven dishes when I bought mine, and they will last forever - no chance of cracking or shattering. The build, cast-iron with enamel-coating, makes them satisfyingly dense but not too heavy, absorbs heat and serves as a perfect vessel for roasting and baking. They have proved to be non-stick, which is seriously useful. The design works so well. With raised handles at either end, it is easy to grasp to remove them from the oven with oven gloves, which is important because they get very hot. They are easy to clean in warm water with washing up liquid. The instructions say that they are dishwasher proof, but that the harsh detergents may impact the non stick properties. Honestly, they wash so easily under a tap that this is no problem (speaking as someone whose dishwasher is her best friend).Fabulously, although I use mine mainly in my fan-assisted oven, it can be heated on my induction hob too. The user guide warns that regardless of the heat source, heat must be introduced progressively (start it low and raise the heat slowly). Finally, they look great - ideal for presenting on the dining table to serve if required.

Very heavy weight and considerably smaller than I expected but with anything of this calibre you “get what you pay for”. To get a sense of the size I would say a very large piece of steak would sit comfortably in it but if you were doing something like roast potatoes you may struggle to fit enough potatoes in it for more than 4 people. If you are unfamiliar with Staub, they are a renowned french brand often found in very prestigious restaurants. Each piece is unique in subtle ways due to a cast iron process involving a sand mold. The interior of staub products are made with a unique enamelling process resulting in a textured “black matte” finish. This gives them a better resistance to thermal shocks and scratches.Staub products are easy to maintain and do not require seasoning. They are ideally suited to flash frying, roasting, glazing and caramelising foods. Best of all, Staub products improve with each use.You can use on all major heat sources: traditional ovens, electric, gas, radiant, induction and halogen. The pans are resistant up to 250 degrees Celsius or 500 Fahrenheit.I’ve tried for both roasting in the oven and cooking steak on my induction hob and the versatility has astounded me. The mess is minimal and the quality of the food was really apparent. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend for any kitchen.

It is a real pleasure for once to be able to write a product where you can wholeheartedly praise the quality of workmanship and materials that have gone into it. This Staub dish certainly is such a product. It has real weight about it, a splendid enamel finish and simplicity of design to commend it. It is just under a foot in length and has the right depth to cook dishes such as paella, potato dauphinoise, a pasta bake or say four chops cooked in sauce. The non stick coating is truly effective and will, I suspect get better as the dish gets more use. I should say that with a dish of this quality you do have to look after it properly-avoid taking it out of a hot oven and then dowsing with very cold water as it is possible for the glass based enamelling to crack.Similarly this is a dish to sponge clean-I will not be putting it in the dishwasher. What else to say? The dish holds the heat splendidly giving a really even cook to your food and you end up feeling you can truly trust it to perform reliably time after time. Note this is an open dish with no lid, but for any recipe that requires open cooking this is great and it can be used on all types of cookers including induction. In an ideal world it would be great to have one dish like this and one with a casserole style lid. Recommended with real enthusiasm.

I am reviewing the 28cm black oval oven dish.First impressions are good. The dish is well presented and even has a bow tided to one of its handles! It is easy to clean with washing up water and sponges or brushes; no need for heavy-duty scouring cloths! The instructions say it can be washed in a dishwasher, but hand washing is recommended. It is so easy to clean that this is not an issue. Can be used for a variety of cooking types. It can be used on the hob and in the oven.It is quite heavy, though not too heavy (not as heavy as Le Creuset dishes, which I always think are too heavy). It feels solid and cooks with an even heat across its surface on the hob. These dishes come in a variety of sizes,so be sure to consider what you want to use yours for before ordering. Mine does not have a lid, but pans with a lid are available. You should be able to find a dish/pan that meets your needs.I had not heard of Staub before getting this dish, but I will look for their products in future.

This is a very heavy oven dish, so not for those who struggle with lifting! However it is excellent quality, and will no doubt last a very long time. It is beautifully made, and the presence of the handles is really useful for lifting food in and out of the oven. The nonstick coating works very well, and makes it easy to clean by hand-washing as well (it is possible to put it in the dishwasher but the coating may be damaged, so it's best not to!)The only thing that's a slight pain is that the instructions tell you to be careful not to allow any sudden changes of temperature, so it's best to allow the dish to warm up gradually alongside the oven which I don't always find convenient. If you're looking for a long-lasting, high quality, traditional dish though, then this is a good purchase.

Just received mine today and immediately cooked dinner in it - have lots of Le Cruset cast iron caseroles and thier suacepans are really great but spotted this gear in the cooking pages of a sunday mag last week and just "had to have it" - all our ghastly but practical pirex dishes will now be off to the charity shop and replaced with a full set of these. We do lots of roast chicken and Jamie Oliver style cooking "tray baked" - cover it in herbs garlic and oil "blah blah blah lovely jubbly" etc. and then sling it in the oven while necking a glass or two style cooking. This is perfect for that - it suits that style of non fussy tasty food that 99.9% of us cook and plonk on the table - not your master chef "plated up" nonsense.Cant wait to buy some more.

Excellent enamel coated cast iron pan. This is my first experience of cooking with cast iron, made a root vegetable oat topped bake and the flavour was amazing. I’ve made this dish many times and didn’t really expect it to be any different cooked in cast iron but the vegetables were cooked without being mushy, the flavour was more rich. The pan is heavy, excellent quality and a joy to use. I’ve now cooked chicken fillets in wine which had a flavour that I can’t describe, I’ll have to use the word rich again. Baked cod with courgettes and white wine, gorgeous. This pan has changed all my favourite dishes into more flavour some meals. Overall brilliant.

With ovenware, you tend to get what you pay for, and this Staub dish, whilst not cheap, is certainly a quality item. It's made of heavy cast iron with enamel coating, and is very strong, very well-made, and great to cook in. We've used it three or four times so far, and are really pleased with it; it cooks well, and is easy to clean - simply washing up liquid and a sponge or softish brush gets just about anything off, without having to use a scourer. We know it will be long-lasting, and is impossible to break, so despite not being cheap should turn out to be really good value. Five stars.

This is a very good and well made oven dish. It is getting almost daily use. Great for any kind of baked/roasted dish and can be used for making gravy etc on my gas cooker. I also find it very easy to clean (though I don't use a dishwasher). Postscript - in a moment of carelessness I left this on a lowish gas burner while eating the food which was prepared in it. After letting it cool down the burnt residue inside was easy to clean off with normal washing-up liquid and a brush. No damage apparent. I don't suggest repeating this - your experience may be different.

I love this! This is my go to roasting dish when roasting smaller joints or birds. This heats up really evenly and retains heat very well. For cast iron, this cleans really well and can be put in the dishwasher, though i prefer to wash by hand, which is also easy to do.A really high quakity and well finished product for a reasonable price - certainly not the cheapest, but items like this don't tend to be and the quality justifies the price

I have not heard of Staub before but have really enjoyed trying it out. It is black enamel and very solid. Has 2 handles one at each side for lifting the pan but do take care as they can become very hot. I find we can use it to roast in oven or for burger or such like on top of my induction hob. Size is ideal for 2 people. Washes easily with soap and water, I will be looking further at this range

Comes well presented,Came with a nice instruction booklet,I used for roast potatoes and this did the job,I like that you can use on the job as well as the oven!Very heavy,Would make a nice gift for someone who loves cooking and expensive cookware :-)A little pricey at £82.22!

A very good quality iron plan. It is easy to clean - let it cool then fill with hot soapy water. Leave to soak and job done. It is a versatile dish and we use it for roast potatoes or a small joint. Just right for the two of us.

Really beautiful quality.28cn is small though so I'm not fully sure what I can do in this. I think it would be great for a single person or a couple. It's just too small for cooking family meals.

Great dish. I now have all three sizes and they are all very useful. Brilliant because they do not stick, and the non stickiness gets better the more you use them and season them.
