I bought this for my partner for Christmas, and she loves it. I've played guitar for around 15 years and tried to teach her, but she struggled with her tiny hands and with steel strings. So I bought her a Stagg Uke for Christmas, along with a set of D'Addario EJ87S strings and the "It's Ukulele Time" beginner's book. I didn't want to spend a fortune as she might not take to it, but if she does I can always upgrade in the future. The first thing I'll say is to bin the strings that come with it. I did initially tune it with the supplied strings, but they weren't great. They felt flimsy, and the sound was acceptable but not particularly good. Luckily I was prepared and had bought a better set,and wrapped them up under the tree with the Uke, on the advice of Amazon reviews. I chose D'Addario EJ87S which cost around £5. As soon as you fit them you notice a substantial improvement in the quality of the strings to the touch, but more importantly, a much improved sound. Fitting is a little fiddly, but watch a couple of YouTube videos on the subject and all becomes clear. The second thing I'll say is to get a decent set of screwdrivers and play around with the machine heads (or tuning keys, if you prefer). The ones on the Uke I bought were a little loose, which caused the strings to go out of tune rather quickly. One of them was a bit too tight, which was causing some vibration, so I adjusted that one too. Although be careful to use a correctly sized screwdriver if you do this, as the screws are cheap and will round easily. As with many new stinged instruments, you need to allow it some time to bed in a bit, especially if fitting new strings. I downloaded a simple ukulele tuning app onto my phone and tuned it using that. This needs doing a lot at first, but soon enough it settles down and needs doing much less often between playing. All in all, I'm impressed with the Stagg Ukulele. My partner is very happy with her present, and is working her way through the book, learning some simple songs and chords. And I enjoy playing it myself. It's similar enough to a guitar to be able to use strumming and picking techniques, but in many ways is a totally different experience. The finish of the uke is good but not great, which is why I've knocked off a star. The one I got had a small chip on the back (nothing major), and overall the finish appears a little plastic (although looking inside you can see the instrument is indeed made of wood). But as a cheap entry level uke it's worth the money. I'm even planning to buy one for myself.

My background:- I'm a long-term guitarist and wanted a cheapish uke that I could put in my baby daughter's nursery and have little singalongs and do nursery rhymes etc. So basically I know about stringed instruments and knew the differences between playing a guitar and uke, but wasn't after something pro-level and didn't want to spend much more than £30 only to find I'd wasted my money on something too cheap and nasty to be playable. After reading up on them I was in two minds between going for this which will no doubt appeal to my daughter one day or one of the more naturally-finished ones but I'm glad I did - despite looking a bit childish this is definitely more of a legit instrument than a flimsy toy.Having said that it is incredibly light but I couldn't tell you if it's particularly light for a typical uke, but the wooden body seems decent.Read enough budget-level uke reviews and you'll see a common theme; the stock strings are always terrible so buy some extra ones and watch some youtube videos on how to fit them (it's a lot more fiddly than with a guitar). Also be prepared to constantly retune it over the next few days while the new strings dig in.The frets are plastic, basic and pretty close for me but that's probably down to my larger fingers and being a uke virgin. In any case there are several ways to play the major chords if you know the theory and have experience of standard barre chords. The green tuning pegs are a great visual touch and their reliability are what you're really paying for. Definitely holding up so far after a week or so of owning it.Nice bonus is that the box has chord diagrams printed on one side, nothing you can't find on the internet (or work out yourself if you know your triad theory) but they didn't have to. Personally I would've preferred better quality strings and/or a decent tuner.Would have been 5 stars no question if it weren't for the strings, although it doesn't sound completely terrible out of the box just very "thin". As the title says; great for kids but playable enough for adults with a bit of effort setting up.

Essentially the best entry-level ukulele I've come across. A strong (not solid but that's to be expected) wooden body, a resilient plastic composite neck, a decent bridge, excellent geared tuners, and good strings too. A Mahalo of the same price is all plastic, cheap-looking, cheap-feeling, and cheap-sounding; Stagg in turn gives you something of almost mid-range (quasi-professional) standard in comparison. The string action is pretty decent too, meaning a relatively comfortable play, even for absolute beginners.I genuinely trust Stagg to produce quality entry-level instruments that give people the strength to learn on and hone their basic skils; they built not just my first uke,but also my very first bass, my mandolin, and my melodica. I have no problems with any of them, and they have given me the confidence to learn and to gain the physical knowledge to become a better all-round musician. This uke in particular was so good I bought my elderly nan one for her birthday to give her something to excercise both her brain and body. There are obviously better quality ukes, but as far as I can tell, there's nothing this good for this price. The travel bag comes in handy too!

This was bought as a present for my wife who loves it. I have a number of ukuleles of varying quality and cost and for the £40 I paid for it, this uke is great. It has a solid Mahogany top which gives it a great tone. Intonation is perfect throughout the fretboard and the action is great too. It even came with Aquila strings so no need for a string upgrade which is often the case with cheaper ukuleles. One thing to note is that colour in the photographs isn't a good representation of the actual product received which in reality was much redder than the brown in the picture. This was not a disappointment as the red colour really looks good. For £40 I cannot fault the quality and it exceeded expectations. However don't expect a £500 uke for £40. The finish around the edge of the sound hole isn't perfect, however it is more than acceptable given the overall "package." In short, it's a great little uke for a great price...but why'd they have to call it Stagg!?!

The ukelele arrived in 3 days, much faster that I thought and indicative of good service. The instrument, itself, is so small, but the tone, when tuned is excellent. I bought an electronic tuner for just under a tenner and this is invaluable as the uke needs tuning from the start and every ten minutes thereafter. I understand some better strings give better sound and better in-tune duration, so I ordered a set of nylgut strings. This all might sound a bit inconvenient, but being new to a musical instrument it adds to the experience in my opinion. With a book and Youtube videos, plus some help from my musical son, I was up and playing something within hours having never played anything before. It doesn't make me feel like a rock god, but, honestly, it's a pleasure to strum away, learn something new and get a pleasant sound from an instrument that doesn't really cost a lot: I'm hooked and this is a good ukelele to start on at any age. 5 stars.

I really enjoy this product. It is cheap for a musical instrument so you cant expect wonders. The strings are made of plastic so when you first tune it, you will have to go back and tune it a minute later and so on and so on until the strings have stretched. Over time and use the strings stop going out of tune so quickly. It is really fun to play, you will be able to play some rhythms which sound good after just a couple of hours. Obviously in no way is it of professional quality, but its good to learn for beginners and good to waste time when you're meant to be revising. It even comes with its own little carry bag... what more could you want to be the coolest kid in town!Would recommend this product to anyone looking for a fun instrument.

A lovely little instrument for a beginner like me and well worth the money. As others had recommended, after a few weeks I changed the strings for something of better quality and the new strings settled quickly. Now it's rarely out of tune and has a lovely tone. A word of caution for the large handed or fatter fingered: you may have difficulty with some of the chords as, being a small instrument, there isn't much space in which to fret properly and so one of the larger Uke versions (Concert or Tenor) may be a better option. My advice would be, if in a position to do so, that you visit a music shop and test each size to see which is best suited to you.

This is a great little ukulele and produces a good sound. I bought this for fun and to teach myself the ukulele and it is great for that purpose. The strings do not always ring clearly especially when playing high cords and perhaps better quality strings are needed. It arrived very out of tune but with the right tuner it is quite easy to tune and the strings don't feel like they are going to snap which was good since I have often had a violin string snap in my face. It will go out of tune in the first few days but eventually the strings will settle down. This really is a great piece of kit for a super price so I recommend it.

This Stagg Ukulele US10 is great for a beginner Ukulele player. I picked it up and have learnt so much in a week! But I do have a few cons which I need to explain, firstly being the weight, this comes to me as personal preference as I like things that have a good weight to them, this however, does not. Secondly it feels and sounds very much like a toy, which after seeing other Ukulele's has made me realise that I need an upgrade pretty soon! Despite the light weight feel and toy-ish sound, it is still a solid Ukulele and a top buy for ANYONE, looking to get into ukulele, and doesn't have a huge budget for the instrument!

I changed the stock strings for Aquila 4U Ukulele SOPRANO Regular(Nylgut)strings they appear to be a far better quality and once tuned make the Uke sound really nice. The instrument has to be tuned every time I use it but this is down to the strings stretching to there maximum. The Uke has a lovely sound and s real easy to play I would recomend to buy, the UK flag and blue finsh makes the look so different. For thoes who have not seen or played a Soprano Uke like this they are a small instrument about the size of a violin.I love my Uke and enoy playing it it has a very 'warm happy sound.

It's a decent beginner uke. Be sure to get a tuner if you don't have one because it will frequently need tuning for the first few weeks. After a while it will settle down. A fair amount of pressure is required to hold each chord but I see this as a bonus as it will help strengthen your fingers and make you a better player overall. The colour is nice and is a solid matt black finish. Honestly if I were to buy again I would be tempted to go for an Octopus over the Stagg. Having said that I'm not disappointed, and if you want a solid black beginner uke you can't go too far wrong with this.

I've always wanted to play an instrument, but they always either seemed like too big an initial investment, or too complex a hobby to take up for fun. This little thing is brilliant though, I picked it up within a few days and I've been playing it nearly every evening since. Great little instrument to start with!I'm not sure where all of the reviews about going out of tune are coming from, after playing it for a few nights, re-tuning it every so often (there's tons of free apps to do it) it stays in tune for ages now.

Received this Uke today, well packaged and swift delivery. It is a great starter Uke ( well I think it is in my limited experience ), it feels and looks well made. I've taken others advice and brought some new strings too, and a tuner as you do spend a while re-tuning. Get yourself on the tube of you and you'll find there are plenty of vids to get you started. Now it's time to drive the house nutty while I get my fat fingers on the frets and make a noise.

This uke looks amazing. I'm just starting with this instrument (I'm a piano person but cannot afford to fit a piano in my tiny little flat) and I can tell the strings are not made of the best quality, but for this price you get an awesome looking ukelele that allows you to practice and learn the instrument. I also bought some ukelele strings along with it, so when I get better, I'll just change the strings for the new ones and keep playin'!

This is such a delightful, happy little instrument!-Arrived on time-Lovely finish as apparently it's handmade-Plays well-It needs to be tuned quite a lot in the first few days (I used an online pitch matcher, very easy and free to use) however I've been playing it for over a week now and it needs tuning less frequently. Just be patient with it, it's new after all!-Strings are strongI'm having a lot of fun with it! 5/5 :)
