Arriving in rural Brittany for my precious one week's summer holiday, I let out my usual sigh of regret that we didn't have space in the MPV for a guitar - usual because, no matter how much space we do have, in my wife's firm opinion it is never enough for a guitar. This time, I had an idea: I went A.W.O.L. one morning, found the local music shop and persuaded them, for a small fee, to let me borrow the cheapest guitar they had in the shop for a week. The lady looked a little bamboozled at my pig French, but eventually handed over a smart looking crimson classical guitar, which subsequent inspection revealed to be a Stagg C542.And as I marched triumphantly back into our camp didn't I look like the grandest tiger in the jungle. The guitar retailed for next to nothing, and so I really wasn't expecting much, but the Stagg did a bunch of things that the buyer of a $50 guitar really has no right to expect:*you can get it in tune and it stays in tune, right up to the twelfth fret. This sounds odd, but it is a technical business getting a guitar correctly intoned: the frets have to all be in exactly the right place, both in relation to each other and in relation to the bridge. Generations of young learners have had to battle with guitars that a permanently out of tune: they might sound okay for root five chords, but out of whack for root six chords, or might go progressively out of whack the further up the fretboard you go. The Stagg I played was absolutely spot on.* It has a low, clean, playable action: again, cheap guitars routinely (used to) have warped necks, bowed soundboards and strings which sat half an inch above the fingerboard and still buzzed like crazy when you tried to fret them. The Stagg's fretboard is dead straight, low, fast and clean as a whistle.* It sounds nice. Sure, it ain't AAA grade solid cedar (the spec says basswood, and I suspect it's ply) but if you're a beginner you simply won't be able to tell the difference. The treble strings ring crisply, the bass strings have a pleasing baritone bark to them, and chords are nicely balanced with plenty of sustain. If you are starting out on the classical guitar (or, really, any other guitar) you simply cannot go wrong with the C542. Even if you leave it in the drive and back the car over it, it's only $50 for a new one, and in terms of playing dynamics it'll be a long while before you outgrow its capabilities. I've been playing enthusiastically for 24 years - admittedly not much on nylon string - but this little fellow absolutely hit the spot for a week of unwinding in the french countryside.Thoroughly recommended.Olly Buxton

I am relatively a beginner guitar lover. Bought a 2nd hand classical guitar before Xmas to give it a try, loved playing guitar and singing along and decided to upgrade to a new guitar. I wanted to buy a slim body electro classical guitar due to 2 reasons: 1. Because it is easier to hold a slim guitar 2. Nylon strings. Of course I tried this type of guitar from a friend of mine so knew how it feels and sounds. My classical guitar had a larger body and steel strings cause pain on your fingers as you have to press harder to play good sound. Due to lockdown, the options were limited so decided to go for this model because it was the most affordable option including my preferences.Very happy with the quick delivery, it came 2 days earlier than the estimated delivery date so special thanks to Amazon Prime. I took a photo with my older classical guitar and you can see the sizw difference, this model is really slim so happy with the body. It comes with a cable to connect to an amplifier (however I will never use this feature as my wife cannot stand guitar voice?) and a battery which you need to place nearby the amplifier input. Otherwise tuner will not work. Once you place the battery, click on the tuner button to switch on tuner. You can tune the guitar from here. As mentioned by some users in the comments, you don't need a 3rd party app to tune the guitar. I added a photo which shows how you correctly tune the guitar. You should see that "candle" symbol which means you tuned the note correctly. Starting from the upper strings, you will tune E, A, D, G, B and E consequently. When you tune correctly, you will see that candle symbol so keep trying until you see this symbol. It took me around an hour to finish initial tuning because because as you tune one string and go for the next, the string you tuned before loses its tube so you go back again and tune it. I played a few songs. Probably because of that the guitar and strings are new, you need to tune frequently. But as you play the guitar more and more , I think you won't need to tune so often. So I have my guitar for a few hours now and as I mentioned for a beginner who wants to upgrade his guitar for easier handling and better voice, happy so far. But if you are a first time user, buy a cheap classical guitar first, see if you will like it. Then consider paying that amount of money for an upgrade. After the lockdown, I will visit my friend to connect my guitar to his amplifier and see how it will sound.

I've had one of these guitars for 8 years now and even though I bought a better classical guitar since then, I simply couldn't part with the Stagg because, although it weighs half a ton, has a sticky, shiny neck and a ghastly painted fretboard, it just sounds great. Power chords bark out of this thing like some heavy metal machine and fingerpicking is a doddle with a board as wide as a freeway - even though the intonation does go a bit awry further up the scale. The old Stagg has been through three years of college, thrown onto trains, carried on bicycles, abused by various drunken idiots and played on staircases and in pubs, gutters and fields all over England and it is still in one piece! All I would suggest is to try some 'hard tension' strings on it and maybe a new nut. Trust me, the neck will take it, any slight buzzing you may have been experiencing will completely disappear and it will sound amazing. Highly recommended as a 'go-to' second guitar, when you don't want to risk your nice one!

I have been playing music for 20 years and I must say I am very impressed with this guitar. It has a beautiful tone, super (and I mean SUPER) glossy finish and the action is spot on to boot!! I just assumed that since the guitar is so inexpensive that it would come with a few drawbacks, but I am happy to admit that I was wrong. The only issue I have with this guitar is that it arrived with a 1 inch chip near the base. I want to exchange it, but the return shipping is only reimbursed up to £3 odd and it'll cost 5 times that to ship it so I will just cut my losses. It's a real shame because I'd rather give it 5 stars but can't due to the chip and return policy. All in all it's an amazing value andI'm still very happy with it.

Bought used from the warehouse, arrived on time and essentially 'as described'.Bought this for my kids to play and - bottom line - they are very happy with it.If youare an acomplished guitarist intending to play classical guitar solos on stage in front of large audiences, you may demand something more 'professional'. If you are learning and/or playing for fun you'll probably be as happy with this guitar as my kids are.Only possible downside is I bought several guitars for several wannabe guitarists and this one is 'just a guitar' - but arguably the best of the three I bought - rather than a kit, so the recipent felt 'a bit hard done by'compared to the others until I got them a sling/tuner/bag/cappo etc seperately.

So, i was skeptical about purchasing this Guitar to teach myself how to play due to the price, I had many questions going round in my head, "will it be any good" "will it sound normal" etc etc. but being a student and not wanting to spend too much on a hobby I might not even enjoy, but i am so happy with this guitar considering the price! you get the Guitar, a set of replacement strings, a clip-on tuner and a carry bag, brilliant value for money!where the strings are nylon (because its a classical guitar as opposed to an acoustic) they dont punish the fingers too much either,Fantastic starter instrument, definitely recommend!

I've been searching for a guitar for my 7 year old that isn't a toy, isn't built shoddily, isn't so expensive that I'll worry about it being used by a 7 year old and yet plays well. I think I've found it. As a player with 25 years experience, the build quality is decent and it plays surprisingly well. For those not in the know and leaving poor reviews for tuning reasons; guitars never come tuned (there are some great apps to help you on all app stores) and new strings will always take a while to settle down and retain tune for a decent period of time. I'll be recommending this guitar to my friends with kids, thanks :)

I really like this guitar. It has a deep tone, and keeps it's tune after the strings have stretched over the first few days. I bought another and it came with the neck broken off, I sent it back and there was no problem getting the refund from Amazon. I'm just learning and this guitar is comfortable, easy on the finger tips and has a nice finish. It's not top of the range, it's just a straightforward basic guitar that I am finding great to start learning on.

I was disappointed when I saw the box as it was a little damaged and I was worried that the guitar was damaged. Zoundhouse did an amazing job making sure the guitar was protected. THe damaged box had another box inside and The guitar was protected down to the strings. The guitar arrived in tune which helps me as a newbie. The guitar arrived quickly and is beautiful, I am so happy to own my first guitar.

A very nice guitar, good sound, strong bass with nice sustain, although it lack sustain on treble. The intonation is great and it has a nice action. The strings are quite cheap though (the A string came broken), so consider a new set of strings. Perfect for beginners (trust me, do not buy a bad guitar when you're leaning to play!), and a nice all-around guitar for experienced guitarists.

On the guitar arriving we were initially dissapointed in that two guitar strings were broken, however, on informing amazon we were offered a credit against the price. Amazon were quick to resolve the matter to our satisfaction. The guitar has a lovely sound and we are really happy with it.Although it would have been good it we had a soft case with it.

Bought this for my 5 year old daughter. She loves it and is learning guitar very well on it, it's a great size for her hands. My husband is a guitar teacher and says he's very impressed with it for the price. He also said all new guitars/strings need retuning more often at the start (something about being new strings). Anyway we'd recommend it.

Slightly ghastly orange colour. Seems OK good value for money, as one expects from Stagg products. Fingering reasonably in tune, sound not bad, action high but that's OK for a beginner - there is scope for lowering the bridge and improving the action. Takes a few days for the strings to settle in but that's normal, and the sound improves.

Fab little guitar. As a petite adult female I can finally play without a struggle. Good low avtion, holds its tuning fairly well and pretty solidly made. Plastic tuner heads are a bit naff as they feel a bit flimsy and had to swap out strings (I now have Saverez normal tension), but love playing this more than my Fender acoustic mini.

I ordered this guitar because I have always wanted to learn to play, and this seemed like a decent starter guitar. It came with a slight chip on one side, and was untuned, but I found a good website to help me out with that. For the price, I wasn't expecting Fender quality, so all in all, I think it's a good guitar to learn on.
