I'm really enjoying this game now! At first it was a little bland but now its really getting somewhere.Admittedly you can tell in parts the game was rushed. Sometimes the graphics are little grim and other times (like the sun shining into the office, or the beach of the dock) they look great. However, I did have trouble with the controller. The first time I played it it was fine. I then went back and the aim was skipping about everywhere. I played Zelda and then came back to it. The controls were 100% and really added to the gameplay. I then moved it into my bedroom on my 14" TV, not changing any settings. It still worked 100%. No idea why it spazzed out in an early gaming session.I'm thinking it may be an actual bug rather than a controller setup error. So -a) Both horrible and great graphics, sometimes in the same screenb) rolling a grenade into a car and then destroying the street with a Uzi is awesomec) the story and the voice acting really isn't that badd) there ARE bugs, although only rarely: i) I've had a sound channel disappear ii) when a NPC didn't react to my presence so I couldn't continue iii) people standing in complete oblivion to your presencee) the gun sound and feel is spot on. The magnum is a little weak, but its nice to have more realistic guns that feel powerful for once.Even with those bugs I'm having a great time with the game and had to pry myself away from the console last night. I even put Zelda down to go back and play it. Which I never expected. Steven Seagal straight to dvd action films - eat your heart out! hahaha!Taken from else where:"I read on Gonintendo.com yesterday that the guy found a solution to your reticule always jumping around like crazy. You just have to turn down the volume on the remote to 1 or 0, and it will stop. I have no idea how the volume on the remote interferes with this, but I'm glad that a solution has been found."Multiplayer: More fun that I thought. The options are limited but it works well as its designed to be played with a smaller number of players. Much more similar it pace to the likes of Golden Eye than Timesplitters, this is a great way to enjoy a few hours. A definite for four players, with no controller issues (expect the learning curve) at all. Also - the Bunny Level. Absolute sessions. I won't ruin it, but as a FPS player with over ten yrs experience this was awesome. The shotgun is great as well.

I agree with other reviews here.As far as graphics are concerned (sorry to burst your bubble person below me) the graphics are definitely NOT on par with Black the PS2/Xbox game. You're wrong there im afraid. I personally agree that they ARE on par with the best ps1 games (at the end of that consoles life). Dont think most people need to google this, lots of people owned a ps1 and remember quite clearly what it looked like ;)The cut scenes definitely do look as bad as ps1 as well. The wii is only just out, so id expect the graphics to be bad but even I was dissappointed with how bad the graphics are on this game. And it does effect gameplay too. If someone is far away, they are harder to pick out as disappear into the shadows. Sometimes the only way to know where someone is is by seeing their muzzle flash. The graphics aren't resolved enough to pick people out at a distance (not because you cant hit them but that you cant actually see them even though they are there). As mentioned by others, the motion and general action of the wii remote and nun-chuck system is very very good.Swordfighting. No one is asking for 100% movement (and no one wants to be swinging around wildly). Think about it for a change, it would be very possible to translate 'wii remote at 12oclock swinging down to 6oclock, then slash up to the 9oclock position' into 'sword at 12oclock swinging down to 6oclock, then slash up to the 9oclock position'. It's hardly 'swinging around wildly' is it? :lol:What weve got is 'hold wii remote like a remote rather than a sword handle, swing/tilt up a bit, then down then tilt/swing to middle right side'. I agree with others that this isnt even CLOSE, and it couldve been made so much better.Gamers DO want better sword fighting (going to any gaming forum shows that this is a big problem with loadsa gamers). I think the general idea of swordfights using the wii remote is good though.I think the save game points are ok because i'm happy to play for long time. They're no better or worse than any other game i think. So im happy with that. The idea that people can't have opinions unless they go and program something better is, quite frankly, ridiculous and childish. What's the point of the reader reviews on here then?(does that mean i cant criticise a car because 'i cant make one from scratch myself' :rotflmao:)

i have to admit, that buying this game, even when second hand seemed like a bit of a risk. the 90% given to it in a official nintendo magazine review was clearly biased, and many online reviews were less than encouraging. dont let this put you off tho, this game is a must for casual FPS gamers; here's whats good and what's bad:the most important element for a wii game is of course, the use of the wii remote, and for the most part i think its a step in the right direction. many ppl have complained about the non-fixed 'bounding box' for gun aiming, and the slow turn around time. personally, i find this refreshing, more realistic, and actually an advantage when faced by many foes in a small area.sword fighting is less than perfect. liek zelda, fixed movements and slashed with the remote, give similar, but not-one-on-one actions in the character...this isn't that intuitive and more complex moves become frustratingly difficult to pull off. that being said, if you like the tense nature of having to dodge and parry against vastly superior opponents, then, like me, you wont quite loathe the sword fights.fresh controls are no good without decent gameplay and this is where red steel excels. forget the jokey cut scenes and cliched storyline, the gun fighting in this game is as good as any i've played (and i'm an ex-xbox fan who's favoutire games were Halo and Half Life 2). the aiming scheme coupled with a useful 'bullet time' feature and plenty of cover means that this plays out an awful lot like a difficult light-gun game, except of course, for some about par enemy AI. you'll love the variety of authentic, excellently rendered weapons and sound effects, while some of the explosions are hugely impressive. infact, on my oldish but big sony trinitron tv the graphics seem to be on a par if not exceeding my that of my old xbox, and its a real shame that for every excellent, well lit, destructable environment, is an equally boring, blockaded corridor.overall though, the plusses outweigh the minuses. forget the odd glitch, sword difficulty and muddy texture, red stell provides a very hong-kong film esque shooter experience that bodes very well for a (rumoured) sequel that will have ample developemnt time to make the next installment a cracker.

For a FPS This game has a preaty neat story, at first it seems basic but with 2 different endings, a classic "anime" (note it's set in Japan) story moral aat the end (well on one of the endings) and The comic book cut scenes.(again note Japan + Anime...)So Graphics wise well actualy (sorry to burst your bubble person below me) The graphics are definatly on par with Black the PS2/Xbox game (just google red steel screen shots you can tell they are definatly better than PS1 games...), and the game uses a nice focus system which alows you to practicaly stop time and tag targets...niceThe physics work well things blow up people fly across (bit like a hollywood film), I have never experianced any slow down in game,Its crashed on me once when I first played it never again so far.The scenery can be blown apart realy, anything which looks breakable is breakable... (well nearly every thing like that)The sword fighting, well that wasnt amazing but it did what they said it would, you could'nt just swing your sword wildly and randomly..., you had to dodge, block, counter, so it works. Those who want 1:1 ratio sword fighting, Think about it, its easy to set AI to block scripted attacks but what about a attack which could be anything, so there wil alway be a flaw with the AI and then all sword fight become a piece of cake, gamers dont want that (well I dont)weapon variety is nice, total of 10 guns, and remember this is the yakusa not the army...The best thing I like is that you cant just barge into a room because you will die, you have to use your cover effectivly, plan your attack, and use he focus system effectivly to avoid damage...The only flaw I can find in the game is the fact that the degugging feels rushed and so does the multiplayer. The debugging because, some times an enemy just stands there or looks like they've been crusifyed...the multiplayer because there are no bots and only a few maps... fun with 4 mates maybe but with only 2 not so much...So I give this a 5 great effort by ubi and the game can only get better if they do make another, and I live by my rue here, dont complain about something unless you (your self not your mate, or another company) can do alot better.

Red Steel sees Nintendo take a darker path. Which is does not normally do. But Nintendo have suceeded in producing a really fun title. It is challenging with very good graphics (for a Wii game). But of course, it is certainly not perfect.General Gameplay: The gameplay is brilliant. However, there is a fairly large learning curve before you can really start to enjoy this game. The controls are somewhat awkward, but ive mastered them in just a couple of hours of game time.Controls (in more depth):The controls are actually very effective, even though it may not seem like it at first.Holding and firing a gun is as simple as it could be. You hold the Wiimote up to the screen, press the B button to fire, use the nunchunk controller to move whilst shooting, and lock on to an enemy and push the Wiimote toward the screen to zoom-in. (The zoom-in may seem like it is annoying, but it's a very nice touch indeed). As for sword fighting, you simply use the wiimote to stike at your opponent, and the nunchunk to dodge and parry incoming attacks.Graphics:I was pleased with the graphics on Red Steel. I got the Wii Console, Zelda and Red Steel for Christmas. And before then I spent lots of time on YouTube just looking at trailers and gameplay shots, of which some looked great and others looked poor. This made me become very unsure about this game. However, the enemies look good (from a distance, they can look somewhat fake up close), the scenery is very detailed and the weapons look brilliant. However, the best piece of graphics on the game is easily the explosions. They are arguably some of the best explosions effects I have ever seen.Bugs/Glitches:There are a few problems:The enemies sometimes exert strange and unrealistic behavior, when you shoot them they sometimes die and end up shaking ferociously on the floor, and the sword combat (which is very good), but it doesn't really interpret your motions on the screen that well.Nevertheless, this is the 2nd best launch title (after Zelda). If you own Zelda and want another game, get this!

Great game. Well worth buying. It is that simple. It is definately worth buying if you have a love for First-Person Shooter games like me. The enemy banter is quite amusing, cheesy and does the job as is the AI. There are a number of glitches, however that aside the bloom (over intensified) lighting is great, and adds to the style, although the textures look a little washed out - no bother really. It is definately a lot better graphics than the Gamecube or PS2 though. Red Steel has a VERY STEEP learning curve, due in large part to the over-sensitive controls, for example... when you are being shot at by numerous enemies at once, it is easy to lose your bearings under pressure and it may take you a while to get your view back to normal,by which point - dead!! The only way I found to combat this is to try your damned near hardest to take down one enemy at a time, by hiding as much as possible, where the enemy shots cannot hit you, or even go so far as to back-track to another room and do it that way. It does take a while to get the hang of the controls. However Red Steel does its job, it proves that the Wii is a suitable platform for FPS gaming and it also proves what the developers were capable of in just over six-months. Yes it was a rushed launch title, but that is not the point here. Red Steel is more like an afterthought in an attempt to prove a point and I think it succeeds on this level by leaps and bounds! To be honest I cannot see the game for its negatives, I can view it only for its positives and the fact when you get the hang of the controls it is the best fun you will ever have, the multi-player rocks although it is a shame you cannot use the swords in multi-player!! Just need two more remotes and nunchucks and I'll have a 4-player rig, oh yeah and get some emergency beers in. Buy this now... but be warned... it will take you a couple of weeks to get the hang of the controls. Roll on Red Steel 2... apparently it is in the works already!

I found this game to be very dull at first. The early stages of the plot are far from exciting but I soon realised that they are nessecary to set the scene and to get the player used to the control system for moving, shooting and sword fighting. Once the on-the-job training is done the plot moves on at a quick pace and you start to understand whats going on.The cut scenes are a bit of a cop out graphically but they do feel Japanese and are very similar to the acting - its like a very cheesily dubbed japanese action movie. (Japanese speaking english with American accents)The game is very difficult to get to grips with at first as the wiimote is quite sensitive and leaves quite a small windowin the center of the screen where aiming does not mean turning rapidly.I found the uzi very hard at first - I kept unloading 45 bullet clips and missing completely! After a while it just becomes second nature and very very satisfying when you are confident enough to charge through corridors gunning down enemies as you go. The shot gun is a good gun for begginers and once this is learned you should be more confident with the uzi.Sword controls are not perfect as others have said. They are still acceptable but the control system does not allow the sword fights to be as enjoyable as they could have been.Again at first I was not impressed by the graphics. But after a while I was so engrossed with the relentless action I forgot to notice. And again some of the graphics actually start looking quite good. Explosions are superb.I have not played multiplayer yet so cant comment on that. I imagine that playing against someone of equal skill would be great fun.Overall this game is definately fun no question about it. The shooting will have you immersed until the end as long as you can stick it out long enought to learn how to get the best from it and appreciate its action packed and long levels.

I brought this game with my Wii at Launch because it came as part of a package. Many mags and websites had been critical of this game, but I really don't understand why? The games story is weak, but it's not really the story that is the focus of the game. Basically, your engaged to a girl you were originally a body guard for, and you go to meet her father. However, during this meeting, gagsters show up and kidnap the girl, and its up to you to get her back. The game is set in the first person, so you see everything through the eyes of your character. There aren't a great range of guns, mainly different types of machine gun, shotgun and handgun really, but what is nice is the ability to use swords using the Wii remote and nunchuck.Using the remote you can slash the sword, and using the nunchuck you can defend and dodge attacks, and this is a really unique and pleasing feature of the game which really gives you a great demonstration of some of the innovation the wii can bring. Using guns isn't as fun, but the controller allows for greater control, but demands a steady hand. The locations of the game vary pleasingly, from a garage with lots of neat looking explosions, to hotels, and to clubs. The graphics are excellent for this, and it just goes to really make the experience an enjoyable one.The mags have been critical of voice acting and sound, but personally, it never really bothered me. The only problems I would pull out about this game are an overly stupid menu screen which you have to highlight in order to see the english and is in neon. This just makes the game feel tacky and cheap, but this is only a minor problem, and the fact that this game will make your arm ache big time.A great game to buy, you wont be disappointed. Highly recommended.

I bought this before reading all the reviews, and had a bit of a panic when I read some of the more dismal ones. Then it arrived and I played it.Now, I've only completed the first 2 levels/missions but; This game is Awsome! A note to the people who found it hard to aim, set the sensitivity down to low in the options, this is recommended to first time players when you see it in the options. With this set, the machinegun was easy to master.I will admit some people find the control system hard to deal with (one of my mates and my Girlfriend for example, but they don't play FPS much anyway) but to me it's just so natural and intuitive, unless you get distracted and the controller points off the screen leaving you spinning madly. The game seems to bring FPS and Light-Gun Shooters into one game seamlessly. The machinegun is my preferred weapon due to quick reload and effective in short bursts, but one-shot kills of the shotgun are great if you have enough cover to reload.Sword fighting is a little more simplistic than I'd like, and there is no point to the dodge, parrying is so much more effective and easier to do without thinking about it. Parry, slash slash, repeat, and it doesn't make much difference what direction you slash or parry in. Maybe that gets better later on.The cut scenes seem very manga-like and go well with the japanese theme, though a skip button would be handy if you've already seen it once.Graphics seem on a par with PS2 although I've not got an HDTV to try this on.those minor problems drop this to a 4.5 out of 5.If you like FPS, get it.

I thought I was the only one that thought this game rocked. I was pretty shocked to read the very mediocre reviews form the "experts" like gamespot which gave this game a 5.5Most of the "experts" seem to base their opinions mostly on the control scheme. I admit at first it was a bit unwieldy, because instead of using a control pad or 'joystick' to aim the gun/reticle, you use the remote to point. As such it did seem a bit too sensitive, but once you play for a while you get very used to it. At least I did, it felt almost second nature to me. The sword fighting is a bit janky but still good, your motions doesn't necessarily translate to what happens on the screen.I thought the whole storylineand scenarios were very clever (one stage even had you trying to escape from an amusement park while being hunted). The graphics I thought were very good. In some of the harbor scenes, the shimmering waves were amazing, and the little attention to details such as the scratches on the elevator doors, was a nice touch. I do admit to being a bit disappointed that the graphics in this game aren't like the ones you see on the official trailers for Red Steel. But the way some of the reviewers are talking about the graphics you'd think they were reviewing a playstation one game. One can only get excited to know that the graphics can get even better. The bottom line is that out of the five launch games I got, Red Steel is the one that I keep coming back to the most, because to me it is FUN. I don't care what the reviewers think, that's the way I feel.

Much like the launch of any console, the launch titles are not polished. However, one thing that can certainly be said for the Wii launch titles is that they're fun, you can probably pick out 7 titles and have a great amount of fun with them, I struggled to find 2 at the 360s launch.Fun but flawed is exactly how I'd describe Red Steel. The Japanese style and music is fantastic. I can't fathom why they had Japanese actors speak in english rather than subtitling but its still nice to have a game of this style.Nintendo originally asked devlopers to work with Gamecube development kits whilst the Wii hardware was finalised, and this shows in Red Steel. There are good character models and the majority of the textures are detailed enough, however the absence of FSAA and the low colour depth really takes the shine off.Controls for FPS are great fun, its slow to turn but that doesn't matter, due to the level design you won't often want to pull a 180, and aiming is amazingly accurate. Sword controls are not so good, unlike say Wii sports the mimicking of your motion is not real time, rather taking a swing is more like pressing a button, the character only immitates you after you have completed the swing. The style is perfect, the execution is hit and miss, and it suffers from launch title-itus; however I had great fun playing it except for the odd sword fight. If nothing else it demonstrates how outdated dual-analogue control methods are and the potential of the Wii controls, even if the game its self fails to realise that potential.

I consider myself so lucky, afterall i didnt order this game!It was a mistake!Oh, thank u amizon!I did at first concider sending it back the next day without playing it but i thought whats the point.so i did play it and at first i was wondering what on earth was going on but i soon caught on and whizzed my way through the first level until i got alittle stuk on the secon level (why cant i draw my sword, why cant i pick up the gun in the office!)but still it was a good game and im sure one of u gamers out there could answer these questions because even theo i had to send the game back i have just ordered it!plus redsteel,is actually was better than the game i was sopposed to get in the firstplace!i actually thougt the the controles on this game were very good because the shooting lock makes it easy to kill people! And as a gamer first to chinesse gangster games i think the whole comic book stlyle movies work well with it and the graphics are quite good too.the only thing i didnt like was the main menu when you first get into the the game, i first thought this was a game mistake because it was all in chinese but i soon discovered that there was subtitles at the bottom of the screen whenever u selected a option.the only thing i cant comment on is the multi player but i have read some if the other comments and it sounds promising. i cant wait to play this game once again.p.s cant wait for red steel 2!and whats wrong with all u people who dont like this game.huh!

A lot of people seem to be put off by the Official reviews, which is a shame as it's a really fun game.I don't understand people who write comments such as "Doesn't look as good as the XBOX 360" - Well of course it isn't, look at the hardware! If you're a gamer who loves the most up-to-date graphics then go and buy yourself an XBOX 360/PS3/Upgrade to your PC, but it's pointless moaning about something which the more intelligent amongst us already know - The Wii is less powerful than other 'Next Gen consoles' hence visually, it won't look as nice.Personally, I thought the Graphics weren't too bad at all. Yes, there were glitches and I even opened one door which had 'DEFAULT TEXTURE' written on it,but really, what does it matter? The game is really fun to play. It took me about 30 minutes to get used to the controls, once I had done this I found the game became highly addictive. The Storyline unwraps itself at a nice pace. You fight in all sorts of different environments with all sorts of different weapons. Using both the Wiimote and Nunchuck, you can aim your chosen weapon with great accuracy! It took me 10 hours to beat the game. I'm not a 'fast gamer' by any means, but I felt I got my moneys worth. Don't be put off by people moaning about poor graphics and minor glitches. If you like an all out action game with variety and a storyline which will keep you interested from start to finish, then give Redsteel a go.

I bought this game when I first got my Wii.I didn't know what to expect as I was very excited about the new and innovative control scheme. On the other hand, I had read some very negative reviews and early impressions. I did not need to worry as this game turned out to be great. It seems to me like people wanted this game to fail. People said the control scheme was too hard, I must've played a different game to them, as I found the aiming absolutely spot on. The sword moves did take a little time to get used to, but after some persistance, I had most of the sword swipes spot on. I feel that people were scared of the new way of playing. The graphics in this game are nice, they show what could be done on the Wii early on. It showed the Wii can do impressive visuals, and wasn't just a Gamecube with motion controls. The story is interesting and follows the honour code that exists in the Yakuza (japanese criminal underworld). It is the classic tale of man who needs to defeat a criminal organisation to free the captured girl and win the day against all odds. Now that red steel 2 is out many people will probably pass this game by, which is a shame as it is such an enjoyable game, with some nice little touches. If you see this game going cheap, snap it up and prepare to shoot, slice and dice with your kitana. You won't regret it.

Red steel was another of the games for the Wii console I had been following from E3 onwards. It was one of the two games that I bought with my Wii console, along with Twilight princess. When starting the game, I was surprised at how long it took me to become accustomed with the controls, which are at first, quite clunky, unlike Twilight princess's controls, which feel smooth and refined. When I did get used to them, however things became a lot more fun as I entered a wonderful first-person shooter. A thing that i muse comment on is the games fantastic gun battles, which are the best I have ever expeirienced, and work brilliantly with the Wii's control system.Just remember to brace yourself during the first half an hour for some dismal voice-acting and unnecesary expletives. However, when you reach Tokyo and you can't understand what they are saying, it improves dramatically. The main disapointment, however, is the sword fighting, something that looked so promising from game trailers. The sword fights are tedious and will make you groan everytime you see some idiot with a sword walk up to you. Lets hope that Ubisoft and Nintendo work on this when they mke a sequel. Still, it is a good game, and if you like first-person shooters you will enjoy it, but its not an essential Wii title.
