Bread makers, sandwich makers, electric carving knifes, electric can openers; these are just a few of the kitchen gadgets that I have bought but have then consigned to the drawer or cupboard, never to be used again, once the initial thrill has died off and we have realised they are ”can definitely do without” as opposed to “can’t do without” items. I suspect that for many purchasers this baby food maker is just another gadget that will go the same way; whilst it is a clever item which does what it is designed to do very well indeed, is it really needed? I confess that this particular baby food maker will not be used by my wife and I, as we are both too long in the tooth to have to worry about feeding babies again, but the friend that we gave it to states that whilst she is impressed by it she already has her babies food regime organised so instead of making her life easier using this gadget “complicates” matters somewhat. Whilst it is certainly cheaper to prepare babies food using this rather than buy prepared food from the supermarket she, and I suspect most mothers, simply adapt some of the food that the adults in the family are eating – by blending, mushing etc. – to suit the babies palate.Bringing up a baby is almost a full time job, but preparation of food isn’t one of the most time consuming nor difficult aspects therefore I believe that an electric baby food maker is of limited appeal, but if you definitely want one I believe that this Philips Advent model is as good as any.

The Philips Avent 4-1 healthy baby food processor is a device designed to be an all in one when it comes to preparing weening babies food.My initial impressions were that the absolute best thing about it is the flip idea, the fact that you don't have to transfer the contents to another vessel to blend after you have steamed. This means less washing up, particularly as a steamer usually is quite a faff and a lot of washing up with all it's sections! Also a lot less stuff to get out of the cupboard to prepare the food. The size is good, the base will store away in a cupboard and the jug will fit easily in the dishwasher. The volume is decent as well for making freezer portions. The manual and the user face are all very easy to understand and with lots of pictorial instructions instructions. Very easy to clean if rinsed off straight after use (like our nutribullet ). Probably the only negative would be the cost, as it is quite a significant investment just to use for the short weaning stage, however if money isn't an issue or if you are planning for more than one child it is probably worth the investment for time saving and reduction in stress as weaning can be an emotional time! The handy recipe booklet has some good information all being simple to make and easy to follow. Some of the features may well be usable after weaning for example for making soups and smoothies.

With Millie Rose being a relatively new arrival in the family, this seemed appropriate. It's not a blender that simply liquidises fruit and veg, and, unlike one aimed at the more grown up market, is well worth the investment. Why the difference? We have a juicer that was used a few times and now languishes somewhere at the back of a kitchen cupboard, so unless you use it regularly, there's no point in getting something like this for yourself. However, it's a boon to those who will take advantage. Babies! Millie's mum used this. I transcribed what she said.Okay, a direct comparison is slightly unfair because this Philips Advent does more than mush up whatever you put inside; slice and dice the contents and within 20 minutes or so it's all nicely steamed.Turn over the container and it's then puréed. The beauty of this is that you can make as many meals as you want to freeze, as this also defrosts. The chunky dial on the front has all the information you need to ensure you use the correct setting. It might seem expensive but one thing you don't do is scrimp and save when it concerns someone mere months old. Yes, it may seem a convoluted way of feeding your baby, but this will prove far cheaper than buying ready meals in the long run. My only reservation is that it could have had a bigger capacity for those with more than one mouth to feed.

Philips have always been at the premium end of the market and this lovely unit is right up there with the best of them. I chose to use Philips Avent bottles, sterilisers, digital bottle warmers and training beakers from birth for my now 15-month old son because they were so well designed and made with quality and ease of use in mind. This baby food steamer and blender is exceptionally nice, it looks great on my kitchen worktop but takes up very little space and matches very nicely with my full size food processor which is similar colours and style. As for the steaming and blending side of things, it steams baby-sized portions quickly and with no mess, as long as you cut the chunks up small before you start, and then with a simple flip of the beaker, it becomes a mini blender for pureeing or coarse blending, depending on what stage of weaning your baby is at. It's not designed for blending hard things like ice or nuts though, only cooked veg or fruit, but that's not an issue as I have a food processor too.Washing up is easy, it's simple to dismantle and there are not any awkward, hard to reach bits.I really like this steamer/blender, it's certainly not the cheapest one on the market, but it certainly has the feel of a quality, made to last piece of kitchen equipment, and it looks great too. 5 stars.

Absolutely brilliant, bought mine in the black Friday sale so I also got it at a good price. It's easy to use, fill up the water to the time indication mark, less water for vegetables, more water for meat and harder vegetables such as sweet potatoes! It peeps to let you know when it's finished steaming, flip it over instantly and press the button which then blends the food. You can blend as much or as little as you want to get the right consistency for your child. Comes with a handy spatula to scrap out every last bit. Yeah OK, after steaming and blending carrots in there a couple of times, the white plastic in the lid is left with a slight orange tint even after giving it a really good clean.Doesn't bother me one bit, but maybe it would bother other people. Our son is 6 months and this will easily make a good 5/6 portions for him to keep in the freezer. This really does save a lot of time and effort. (We used a steamer and a separate blender to make our daughters food a good 5 years ago, this is just so much better and I would highly recommend!) It's small enough to keep in the cupboard and doesn't take up much space on the kitchen counter. Being only white and grey, I think it looks pretty stylish too compared to some of the others I have seen.

We only used this a few times and during a short space of time as our baby had already started weaning by the time we purchased this so moved onto solids fairly quickly. The item is excellent, it’s well made and works well.I’ve deducted 1 star for 2 reasons.Firstly because the lid can be a bit tricky to clean due to the holes. Secondly because the item only comes with one storage tub and so customers have to pay extra to buy additional tubs which can be expensive, when added to the initial cost of the product. We just purchased some cheap BPA free tubs to use for storing food in container and did a transfer when needing to reheat / defrost. To be honest,if you have a steamer and a blender you can use the two products separately to get the same results from this one product but your paying for the convenience of having it’s all in one (4 in 1).Overall it’s a good product, a bit expensive but good quality. It also comes with a colour booklet which is written by a nutrionist and provides useful information regarding different stages of weaning and also a variety of recipes. If you found my review helpful, please hit the ‘helpful’ button below and help others to make more informed decisions based on my review.

My grand-daughter is 5 months old now and we are starting to think about weaning; this gadget seems ideal as it does everything, turning raw items into pureed baby food without the need for any other utensil. It steams the food, which is the most healthy way to cook it, then chops and purees it ready for the baby, and there are different settings depending on whether you are just staring to wean (in which case you want the food very smooth) to later weaning stages when you would need more texture. It comes with a recipe book which gives ideas which of course you can adapt and add your own favourites. So, if you're making a meal for yourself, just cut up a few extra bits and pop them into the jug to steam, then after about 20 minutes you turn the jug the other way up and blend it. You can then freeze the baby food and when you are ready to use it, the gadget defrosts it for you. It saves money in the long run because you don't have to buy baby food and you know exactly what has gone into each batch. If she likes something then it's easy to reproduce it too. It comes with a handy plastic spatula to scrape the food from the jug into bowl or container. I'm looking forward to making lots of lovely things for her to try.

Very easy to steam and blend as it stated. Cleaning is fairly easy however the colour of the food may transfer to the plastic and it stay there permanently no matter how you wash it.Biggest problem is the little holes on the handle. Philips made a safety mechanism to detect if the lid is closed properly before the blend can be activated - a good point, but it leaves small holes on handle which food can easily get into. You cannot take apart the handle to clean it so flushing the hole with water is your only hope. All remaining food and water inside the handle is a bacteria bed and maybe a food safety hazard.Philips should go one step further and make the safety mechanism magnetic instead sothe handle can be completely sealed to avoid any contamination risk.It also leaves too much water inside after steaming. If you are making a small meal you have to pour the extra water out or it maybe too runny. It would be good if Philips can make a quick water release (from the bottom) if you think there are too much water left after steaming.

This is a great product. It's easy to clean and make baby food. It makes an excellent, smooth puree with no lumps. It's very convenient for mums and dads who like to make their babies food from scratch. It's stylish and doesn't take up much space. This comes with a very handy guide containing lots of recipe ideas and how to make them with this food processor. This is not good for adding more ingredients when you are already steaming something without stopping the whole process. The timer doesn't go down as you are cooking, so if you do like to add ingredients nearer to end, you have to use your own clock. As regards to the defrost setting, you need Avent's own food containers otherwise you can't defrost.Thankfully it comes with one, but as all of you know who cook babies meals from scratch, there are plenty of times when you want to make meals and freeze in advance, and 1 isn't enough. You can buy them separately at 2 for £12 i believe. Also, it might be tricky to make lumpier meals as it makes such a great puree.

It's always a difficult thing to judge in my eyes, the need for so many baby gadgets. I mean we steam or boil veg and then blend it using our regular kitchen blender into a fine pulp of slushy goo for the little fella. Now I saw this and initially thought we wouldn't need it, but it's the ease of use and lack of pots/mess that make this a decent addition to your kitchen.First is the steaming side of things. It does it all in one container, steaming the veg over a shortish time, it seems to do this well and the veg is nice and soft, tastey too. It is worth noting that you have to cut your veg well into small cubes or pieces for this to work best.Once done you simply flip the glass steaming unit over and it becomes a blender. Not the quietest blender but a pretty efficient one, it did a decent job of managing to blend the food into different w weening stages.Overall it's a typically well made Philips product that does a good job

This clever baby food maker steams and then liquidises fruit or vegetables for feeding your baby. It means you know exactly what you are giving your baby and it is super fresh. The unit looks similar to a food processor but smaller. The central base has a dual function - it has a reservoir holding water that generates the steam (you can set a timer for the duration you need). Then you can flip over the main jug and it has a cutting blade to puree the food as much or as little as you want. The instructions are a little bit difficult to begin with but you quickly get the hang of it. I made carrots, turnip and cauliflower and it was super easy.It is also very easy to clean and comes with a handy curved spatula which is excellent for scrapping out the food.It also has a little dish for holding food for later meals and although I haven't tried it, I understand that you can reheat that food using the steamer too.

My wife tells me I was daft to write off baby food because I didn't like the taste myself, but it didn't seem like the sort of thing I wanted to feed to our kid. I lost the argument with the first one, but luckily this came along in time for the second. And I'm sold. It's really easy to use, and I like that it steams the food as that means you don't lose as much of the good stuff. It's got multiple settings so it can make smooth goop for the little one or slightly lumpy goop for when they're getting older.I took a star off because I liked the sound of the defrost setting, but it turns out you can only do that with special pods that aren't included. This gadget is pretty expensive already and now I have to buy something else to get an advertised feature. That's not great. But otherwise I'm very pleased with it. I just wish I'd had it for our first one!

was torn between this and the older version, decided to go for this once because it's larger allowing you to make up a few days worth of food. So glad I did as I can make up 3 days of dinner (puréed).Very easy to assemble and dismantle for washing. You can do the flipping over/ blending etc with one hand of holding baby. Love the scoop it comes with for scraping out the left over puree, fits perfectly and gets out every last drop.If you want to make home made baby food, without all the faffing I highly reccomned this. You can't get any easier than this machine all you have to do is wash and chop your food that's going in.So simple, quick and easy.On the pricey side but I figured I'd spend that over time any way on the pouches and you can keep this even after babies off puréed food for milk shakes/ juices/ and whole steamed fish/ meat/ veggies

I highly recommended it. Just steam and then flip it upside down so that blades work and blend.Convenient, saves time, but one thing I need to say is that cleaning might be difficult for the jar, I am not sure if there is a way to clean between the jar and the plastic white lid, but this area anyway doesn't impact anything, I am just picky as I saw water there after washing it.One thing worth mentioning: I can't figure out how to control the amount of water that remains in the jar after steaming so that blended vegetables are not so soft neither so hard... so I just open and pour away as much as I want! And it doesn't disturb me!Have not seen anything about this in the manual, just steam flip and blend! After some uses the white colors might turn to orange, but this doesn't bother me.

A much improved Philips Avent 4 in 1 blender etc. It chops, steams, defrosts and reheats. You put the container one way up and it blends, flip it over and switch the button and it steams. All you need to do is chop your fish, veg, fruit etc up into small chunks add it in and begin. You can make large batches at a time and put them in containers and freeze them making it much healthier and cheaper than buying jars from supermarkets. The product is easy to clean and can be put in the dishwasher. Reliability was an issue on the last blender and it kept breaking, not had this one long enough but hoping they have improved this side of it.If they have then this is the best food processor/steamer for babies on the market.
