This is a review of the Sonnet Chiselled Silver Gold Plated twist action ballpoint pen. Whilst I do like it, I'm also rather underwhelmed, chiefly by Parker's presentation of the product.PROS : It's a beautiful pen, visually very attractive with a chiselled black grid incised into the silver and gold embellishments - the Ciselé pattern. This gives it a textured surface that is non-slip but still reasonably comfortable to hold. If I had a lot of writing to do at speed, as for examinations, I'd definitely choose something different to write with however - this is a pen for special writing moments. The Parker refills always seem to perform well and the medium point supplied with the pen was no exceptionCONS.There is nothing in the description of the pen in the very limited description supplied with it to indicate that this is as expensive as it is or the information to identify it precisely. It arrived packaged in a white outer cardboard sleeve, and a distinctly unattractive brown fabric covered presentation box in a shade beloved of Seventies interior designers. Perhaps Parker were going for the retro look with this. There is no mention of the pen being made of gold or silver in the generic Parker range multi-language leaflet included. This is in incredibly small print - the footnotes to the illustrations showing which pens, including Sonnet, are in the ballpoint range are literally 1mm high and the rest of the leaflet is barely legible. There is a card that identifies the pen as being from the Sonnet range when you open the box, with the description "Sonnet is Parker's symbol of elegance. With an array of designs including the enduring Ciselé pattern..." This pen IS the Ciselé pattern it turns out, as ciselé means chiselled, but you are expected to somehow know this without being told. There is a space in the presentation box for a refill, but no refill was supplied, which isn't a premium touch.Parker devotees will no doubt know that they have a premium purchase and be happy with this, but if I was giving this as a gift I would want it acknowledged somewhere on the packaging or documentation that it isn't chrome and gilt but was made of silver and gold.Unless it isn't silver and gold. There's no way of knowing.3.5 stars for this reason.

This is a really beautiful pen! Pens are not usually something that I would be all mushy about, but this is really a very high quality beautifully crafted pen.The pen comes in a huge brown presentation box, bearing the Parker logo. It has a pull tab to open and is obviously sealed with magnets. It is a lovely presentation box, although lovely, I would say is perhaps a little too much on the large size for the pen and it does look a little swallowed up by the box.The pen itself has a lovely pearl lacquered and a silver coloured metal body. The metallic end also has an engraved pattern and a delicately patterned clip. This pen is called "SONNET" and the pattern is what Parker describe as "the enduring Cisele" pattern, which makes this pen look quite stunning in design. The pen is a ball point pen that works by a simple twisting of the body of the pen in the middle to reveal the nib and a twist in reverse to hide it away again and keep the nib protected.I have had 2 Parker pens in the past and I find that they are all very well made, but this one is not only well made but stunning to look at and would make a lovely gift. I personally feel that this is more feminine in design too and would probably be more appreciated by a lady (I say this, because my husband did not find it as appealing as I did!).It feels nice to hold and writes with an even consistency.Other than the over sized presentation box, it does lose a star for not having a replacement ball pen refill cartridge. Parker pens I have previously bought, usually have a spare ink cartridge in the box and for the price, I am a little disappointed that they have not included at least one refill. Parker pens are built to last and the ink usually lasts a good while longer than average every day pens, but the refills are expensive, so with such a high investment into one of these more stylish pens, you would think that they could at least gift the buyer one spare refill, like they do in their cheaper models, especially when you are paying out so much more. So that is probably the only criticism I could make really.Over all this is a beautiful, high quality, stylish pen, that proves why Parker pens are so special and make wonderful gift presentations.

This is a luxuriously finished, well-balanced ball-point, using Parker's patented quarter-turn refills. It would make an outstanding gift, or a prestigious purchase. The writing will always be best-in-class for a ball-point— however, it will never be better than Parker's budget pens, because it is the same refill and uses the same system.Owning a Parker was the highlight of my early school days, though I never owned anything like this one. Finished in glisteningly patterned palladium for the top, and a modest (though sumptuous) milk-white for the barrel, this ought to be a prized possession for anyone who has one.At a particular price point, the writing quality does not get any better.Parker's refills are comparatively expensive—more expensive than many cheap retractables—but that is because they write about ten to twenty times as long, never leak (and ballpoint ink is very nasty when it does) and have a unique turning mechanism which means that every time you engage the pen, the refill gets a quarter turn, so the wear is even. At least, that's the theory. Playing with this pen, which is a twist action, I couldn't quite see whether it actually makes use of this quarter-turn technology, as this is a twist cap type of pen, rather than a clicking type. The feature is still very obviously present in the refill. All Parker ballpoints use the same refill type, so if you are merely after the Parker writing experience, you could go a lot cheaper. Either way, in forty years of using Parker ballpoints, on and off, I've never found one that let me down. This, of course, is designed and priced as a thing to own and take delight in, rather than just write with. To my mind, no ballpoint can ever compare with the class and character of a similar level of fountain pen, but few people now use fountain pens. If you want the sophistication (and glamour) of a fine pen, but need to stick to a ballpoint, or if you have a matching fountain pen, this is beautiful, albeit premium priced.

This is a very very nice pen, and actually looks better in real life than in the picture. I would say it is a slightly duller red which adds a bit more class to it in my eyes. The pen is very nicely put together, with the twist on/off action feeling very luxurious and well machined. It has a nice weight to it, that speaks of quality, whilst not being too heavy to affect writing performance. The gold plating looks very fancy and it is really nice and easy to write with. I prefer this narrower body similar to the classic Parker Jotter, compared to the more chunky style pens that they do.The presentation box is a browny grey colour and looks really nice,it is maybe a little large practically speaking but certainly does look the part. The pen writes very evenly and well and in black ink. I actually prefer this ball pen style to the roller ball or fountain pen style as it is far less likely to smudge.PRO's1. Looks lovely, so pride of ownership2. Refills should be relatively cheap as they appear to be the Standard Parker ball pen refill in Black Quinkflow ISO 1257-2 1.0 M

This really is a beautiful pen in a tasteful deep red lacquer finish trimmed with gold; the trim around the middle of the pen is etched with 'Parker' which is a nice detail. It would make a lovely gift (that's if one could bear to part with it) as it is well presented in a brown/grey cloth covered box with a gold Parker logo and name on the top and is fastened with a magnetic clasp. The pen is what one would expect from the more expensive in the Parker range of pens: well-finished, with a medium weight and is perfectly balanced. The pen is comfortable to hold and fits well in the hand thus writing is a pleasure; it writes in black which for me is ideal as pens are usually supplied with blue ink so I normally have to change refills. One very small niggle is that a spare refill isn't supplied, but that can be overlooked by the sheer high standard of this Parker Sonnet Ballpoint pen.Not cheap - but it's well worth the money.A very definite 5 stars!

Parker sadly had a reputation of being the make of pen that your grandparents got you for Christmas. It's blighted with the reputation of being a bit safe, a bit boring. The pen that you opened your first bank account with, the pen that you had when you went on work experience. So, how surprised was I to see that Parker had decided to go toe to toe with some proper pen makers - Cross, Mont Blanc to try and refresh it's previous safe image. To be truthful it looks more modern and it writes well (even for a left hander) and you can start to imagine it more as a pen that you signed your soul to the devil or signing a petition against the current Health secretary.Overall it's the kind of pen you would be happy to have when you start taking off your work uniform at night - a classic watch, a modern smartphone, a pristine tie clip and your weapon of choice - your pen. I like it, it seems to have a whiff of rebellion and being grown up about it...

I've been in love with my stainless steel Parker ballpens for years -- they're lovely to hold and are the absolute definition of smooth, both on the paper and in your hand, and I've ruefully considered it an extravagance. The Sonnet is the deluxe, creme-de-la-creme of the Parker experience, with its comforting weight and understated design. It's solid rather than heavy, full-figured rather than chunky. The gold detailing around the nib, barrel and clip give an elegant finish and add a touch of shine to the otherwise subtle colour of the patterned body. It comes in a lovely gift box, if you can bear to give it away (if you can afford it in the first place!). I admit I could never have *bought* this pen,but I love it fiercely and will pay it the best homage by using it whenever and wherever possible. I give it ALL the stars.

A very beautiful and special pen. One you would love to buy for yourself if you want to spoil yourself or as a generous and lovely gift.Apart from the fact the pen looks lovely, deep blue lacquer with a very white and shiny trim the gift box is also a class act. Thick white ccard, a couple of royal warrants. The whole top section lifts out, underneath was the instruction manual. It would have been nice to have a refill or a case. I do wonder if it will scratch if I let it roll around in my bag. Most importantly though, it writes like a dream. Perfect ink flow, and for me, just the right thickness.

As you would expect from the Parker Pen company this pen is excellent in terms of writing quality. It glides across paper and card with ease. However, the real secret is the attention to detail in the presentation. With a lovely presentation box to start off the overall effect of an almost heirloom like quality the pen itself is simply lovely to hold. It is beautifully designed with a tasteful check pattern and gold detailing. In all respects it is a quality writing implement.

A beautiful pen and writes very well, but I am only giving it four stars because I ordered the 2016 model to match the 2016 fountain pen in the same design and Amazon sent me the old model instead with a slightly different top and clip, which is still very nice but does not exactly match the fountain pen. This is a pity and disappointing service from Amazon as the 2016 model is more expensive than the old model and so I have lost out financially and not got what I ordered.

I like penning first drafts on paper and Parker ballpoints can be refilled with Parker royal blue gel ink, which is almost like writing with a fountain pen, and doesn't dry up like a rollerball. The black Sonnet is an elegant substitute for my messy Duofold fountain pen. I like the Sonnet so much I bought two more, a blue one to match my blue Filofax, and a red one ro match my red Paperblanks notebook, because I like to think elegant tools beget elegant writing.

This pen is elegant and well-made, much better than the stuff Parker were churning out 5-10 years ago. It is much thinner than I'm used to (I'm mainly a fountain pen user) but still comfortable to hold and write with. The twisting action isn't always as crisp as I'd like though. It comes in a nice presentation box, though without a case or any extra refills. The latter are fairly easy to come by, as the pen takes standard Parker ballpoint refills.

As well as the pen, the "Premium Gift Box" was supposed to contain:1 x Welcome card introducing the product line1 x Premium booklet (including introduction to the brand, product lines and warranty)It didn't.Not worth the hassle of complaining, but ...

The newer version is more expensive but looks to have a deeper sheen to the lacquer. I was given this for Christmas and it is the most beautiful parker pen I have owned to date and I have owned many parker pens.

Bought this as a gift for someone leaving the company. The box it comes it is very nice and sharp. Pen in itself has a nice weight to it. Overall very pleased with this purchase
