Over G Fighters is the only flight sim on modern console. Everything else is arcade in comparison. There are two big problems:1. the instructions manual is uninformative and even inaccurate in places2. the game crashes very oftenTo get good instructions on how to handle your plane and play the game you will need to search the Internet for answers. This can be difficult as this is not a popular game and is quite old by now. However if you are persistent you can find it.The game tends to crash every third mission or so.You need to turn off the achievement pop-ups on your console in order to limit how often it crashes. The reason for this is that the game runs a short "victory" cut-scene after each successful mission, however an achievement pop-up also appears and together they tend to crash the game. By removing the pop-up you remove part of the problem. The game will still crash every now and then, but less often. When it crashes you will need to re-do the last mission you did.More about the game:* the campaign is very short at about 5 hours* the replay value is very high because of the different side-missions and planes to choose from* you can fully customize your own battles* you can free-roam* handling the plane is difficult and you die very easily* the game still looks greatYes the campaign is very short and consists of a mandatory set of missions. However the side-missions will constantly change; you can't go back and do a side-mission that was previously available to you.You get a new set of side-missions to choose from after each successful mission. The type of side-mission you do include: escorting someone, stealth attack, intercepting, etc.Besides air combat they also include land-based combat against artillery and sea-based combat against ships. You are free to choose any plane you have unlocked, which in turn will determine the tactic you need to adopt. This freedom of choice in tactical approach adds further replay value to the game. For a console game the handling of planes in OGF is complicated and difficult, although not as complicated as in a PC sim.Still if you have only played arcade games before you will face a very steep learning curve. You die very easily because avoiding missiles is very difficult, a simple slide or loop is not enough. One single hit is enough to kill you.Dumping flares are only effective if combined with the right maneuver, which all has to be timed and executed perfectly.Even if you avoid a direct hit the blast from the explosion can still critically damage your plane. It is also quite easy to crash in your attempts to outmaneuver the missile. In combat your best approach is to send a missile at the enemy before he sends one at you.

Over G fighters is a flight-sim which puts you in the seat of a multitude of fighter jets. Unlike Blazing Angels, things are bought bang up to date with modern warfare in this game. The main game is made up of a scenario (story) mode with branching paths throughout each chapter. After a basic briefing session, you'll be tasked with bombing runs and dogfights over land and sea.The controls, once changed to expert setting, are pretty intuitive. After 5 mins, you'll be convinced that you should join the RAF. The standard setting is a bit too restricting, but does help ease in newcomers.Graphically, the game does a fine job with views right out to the horizon (through gaps in the clouds),detailed cockpit views and stunning aircraft with moving parts all over the shop! When flying close to the ground, features like trees and buildings can appear blocky/pixelated but markedly less than with previous games of this type.Sounds of your aircraft as the afterburners kick in, missile warnings blare, radio chatter comes in are all top notch. Although, the music used in replays and the menus is generally rock.I will say that this game is not for the faint hearted and will challenge the patience of many a gamer. But, for those that stick with it you'll experience many great moments. Like when you first successfully land on an aircraft carrier without taking out 3 other planes (not including you own), or when you suddenly *get it* and start dodging missiles that come you way.Final plus for me, is Xbox live. Once you get online and get shot down by some 7 yr old in a better jet than you, you'll want to unlock a few more in single player and then jump right back in!

I dithered for days over buying this game because of the plethora of bad reviews, especialy in the trade press; finally it sunk in that there were also a lot of good reviews out there...mostly by flight sim fans (like me!) So i bought it, i've never reveiwed a game before, but this game is so good, just so much fun; that i had to, BUY IT! Slow it isn't, all flight games seem slow at altitude; try a carrier landing, buzzing the deck or flying head to head with another jet: it ain't slow! Repetitve? Well there are only certain elements to air combat aren't there? Doom is repetitive..even so it's fun but this is sheer hi octane joy...if you are, like me; a mug for PC sims you will love this game; it does everything you ever wanted without the bugs, crashes, slowdowns and fiddly controls. You must set all the options on top difficulty, highest realism; be patient for the first four missions or so which are easy and short as the program holds hands with you for a while but then the difficulty curve begins to tip up for the stratosphere and you start to enjoy...me i'm of to play some more.

i have read the other reviews for this game, and i would just like to say my piece. i found some of the other reviews a little harsh, considering the lack of descent flight sims on any consoles.yes, over g might not be as realistic as a pc flight sim, but it is miles above previous attempts such as ace combat where you have hundreds of missles and they never miss. how is that realistic?i agree that the voice overs and the story is a bit pathetic, but come on, you have to enjoy the fact that you can actually choose your own custom payload for each mission and your hud is actually usefull for something.it is a rushed job, they could have done a lot more and the physics are terrible, but it is by far the best modern day (i won't comment on blazing angels, i haven't played it yet) jet fighter game on any console. it balances realism with arcade fun.i loved ace combat, but this gives you that little bit more.of course, if you enjoy studying 500 page manuals and figuring out infinite keyboard combos, then stick to the pc stuff. otherwise, get this game.

The game is not an arcade shooter for sure! The Russian jets cockpits are in Russian and symbols in Russian so it's pretty real in the cockpit replication which I like as I do flight sims also! Nice missions but some are pretty tough, with the jets performance limitations is as it should be.. carrier landings are good fun and you do feel a sense of satisfaction getting the hook just right on the catapult! Depending on the choice of missions it affects the outcome of the overall battle scenario so you have loads of options, again I like that.. because you can play the game more than once through and make different mission choices, great feature! good external modelling also of the jets.the characters' voice overs can be a little annoying thought at times! You can also choose the weapons you take on missions too, great effort! we need more games like these in my opinion they're a nice break from the unrealistic world of other easier sometimes boring arcade flying games,..a nice balance between flight sim and arcade shooter, we want more!

First flight sim i've played on a console and was very dissappointed and frustrated to start with:problems - limited manouverabilty (could only bank to 90 degrees)-nigh on impossible to dodge missiles.-first few mission were so easy it was like shooting fish in a barrel then you become unstuck, cos you cant point the plane in the direction you want quickly enough-the background music.... give me strengthBUT - have altered the settings e.g from arcade to realistc, weapons select to manual, customised my payload improved missle dodging skills and now the game has potential.-you can also select your own music thanks to the wonder of the 360.-storyliine remains poor but, hey,am just there to shoot things and i mostly ignore the AI babblenot tried the game online yet so cannot commentif you are patient and persistent, over G is not a bad buy. Good, but not great.

This is the best (realistic) flight sim out for the x box 360 but its showing its age now against the slick graphics of the hawx series but as we all know graphics alone dont make the game (it helps)also the plane models do still stand up to scrutany. With this game the biggest challenge is to complete the game on hell mode (which i did and ITS BLOODY HARD!!!!)the best aspect of this game is the arena in challenge mode which is basicly free play but you can open up new jets on this so plug away well worth doing.the downers are the missions way to linear and the other is an annoying co-pilot who radomly complains when you pull negative-gbut as i said earlier see through these glitches and give it a whirl you wont be dissapointed.p.s.i own hawx and ace combat and both are rubbish compared to this.5 stars awarded to over g fighters :)thanks for reading.

People who bought this expecting an ace combat alternative are going to be disappointed, because in this game you won't be firing missiles ten at a time shooting hundreds of targets, this is more of a simulation type game where if your in the wrong place at the wrong time your going to get shot down alot.I agree with others that the planes could be less sluggish and the enemy should enter the battle field naturally rather than popping into existence unexpectedly, But the cockpits and planes are very nicely done, and evading an attack or making a carrier landing is more satisfying for it's increased difficulty, if you want a shooter get ace combat6 but if you want some realism get this.

I am amazed at some of the other reviewers for this game! This is one of the best xbox 360 games yet! If you look up next-gen in the dictionary I wouldn't be surprised if the deffinition was Over G Fighters. Yes it is that good! The graphics are majestic and the gameplay is more addictive than Déjà vu 1 & 2 The casebooks of Ace Harding. The lifespan is just incredible; I've never played a game for longer without completeting it! I strongly believe all you hawks who own a xbox 360 should order Over G Fighters, but be warned: this fantabadousy game will take over ur life!Gameplay: 9/10Graphics:9/10Lifespan: 10/10Hawk: yes

This game is class, once u set it on hard (cuz easy's ridiculus) and figure out how to dodge a missile (not luck based, there are moves that work 100% of the time) and ignore the story line (its boardering non existant). its a simulation of military fighters n that, the realism is top notch and if u can find a multiplayer game with ppl in it, ppl who are better than the NPC opponents, ur in for a great time. Its a love it/hate it game that most people with the patience to learn to 'fly' love, the ppl bad mouthing it probably didnt give it more than a week.get it so i can shoot u down >D !

I love this game! I found it both challenging and fun. Haven't played it online, so I cant comment on that aspect. The Scenario mode is your basic story mode, with between four and six missons per area, you can build your characters attributes over time. These attributes are carried over into the Challenge mode, where you can play until you're bored, building your attributes. This game is one of my favourites, and caters for novice pilots to top guns. Lots of difficulty customisations mean this game will be challenging, me at least, for months to come.

9.9.2019

Best ever modern era jet combat game for xbox 360.It has also some nice features close to real jet combat simulation without to demand somebody to be a pilot so to be able to survive the quite realistic combat environment and scenarios. One must never forget that a game addressed to combat jet fans must be modified for the abilities of the many rather the very few experts that can only be professionals. We must also never forget that our little friends have the right to enjoy such a game! For the above reasons very recommended!

20.4.2010

This is the best flight sim for the 360 no contest and the reason that people are giving it bad reviews on here is because they are noobs who can't be bothered to spend the time to learn how to fly, plus people complain about the 2d graphics but this game was designed for the Japanese market and they are still big fans of 2d graphic design, I can see how some people do not like this graphical style but it is just for the menus anyway

3.9.2018

The overall game play of this isn't too bad. I was expecting it to be very low budget. Visually, it's brillian, With authentic realism such as black outs, red outs. You get a massive range of aircraft such as the A10 Thunderbolt, F117 nighthawk and other jet's. The only downside is the script. It's basic, and doesn't seem very tactical or realistic. It almost makes the game feel like a set of driving instructors for a 5 year old

8.2.2014

I bought this game after reading mixed reviews and I actually like it (apart from the cheesy dialog and voice acting). Its a lot more realistic than the Ace Combat series I play in the past. Its an old game, I think it was released in 2006 so don't expect cutting edge graphics but it's not a bad looking game either.I would recommend if you are looking for a realistic air combat game on Xbox 360.
