I've really enjoyed this game and have to defend it against the negative review from a senior (40+) gamer. I'm one of them too and have played pretty much every shooter going prior to this, starting with Space Invaders. Yes this game is derivative but when you take the best bits from a bunch of great games and blend them together with style, you end up with something special. Elements of Halo, Gears, Lost Planet, Killzone and older shooters like Area 51, Project Snowblind, Red Faction, Max Payne and Mace Griffin are all mixed together with a large splash of Japanese style squeezed from old Capcom classics. The balancing of the action is superb. Just when you've wiped out a couple of super sized bosses and giant robots, you get a reminder of your fraility when you take on half a dozen robot grunts - four go with head shots, a fifth is kicked acrobatically, only for the last to take you out with a well place blow to the reactor on the back of your suit. I also love the weapons. As you pick up ammo, fill any weapon and the next ammo collected for that weapon type rewards with a stats boost. Certain weapons fare better on certain enemies. It took me a while to realise the benefits of weapons like the disc launcher. The old favourite, the sniper rifle if very effective with a great zoom but ammo limitations to stop things getting boring. Face off against the big boss and hear him say "aim carefully" when you pull up the scope. Rocket launchers can do some serious damage but the collision detection is fantastic. You'll see in super slo-mo your rockets getting dodged and deflected last second just as much as you will shoot enemy rockets out of the air. The sliding on your knees gimmick works so well, it becomes fundamental to your gameplay and totally justifies its presence. There's also plenty of variety to enemy types. Just when you think you've seen all the game has to offer up pops something reminiscent of the Silver Surfer, or my personal fave, The Unknown, who magnetically pulls together robot debris to make a super enemy but when worn down, reveals himself to be a little bit like the tiny evil Transformer that wanted to do the dirty to Megan Fox's leg. Slow-mo, sniping, acrobatic hand-to-hand, fully automatic mayhem, grenades galore, cannons to commandeer, EMP action, robot walkers to master, space ships to crash land, space stations to save, fags to smoke and a gal with a great voice to meet up with at the final cut scene - what's not to like?Multiplayer? Hmm. Nearly perfect then.

At first it seems too manic but after playing it for 30 mins or so you get used to the pace.Graphically it looks very nice in places and other levels just seem kinda average. The colours do seem a bit wishy-washy throughout and not that vivid, but I think this was done for a reason. Most of the space industrial levels do look very samey at times and even if you visited the same area twice I doubt you'd realise it.The cut-scenes however are top notch and great to watch just like a fab film.At times the camera goes into a slow 'matrix style' motion and it is really cool shooting at an enemy and dodging the bullets. This is usually just before you die and gives you a chance to hit back hard. You can also slide at high speed on the floor to take cover or slide under large enemies. This is very satisfying to watch and guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Some of the HUGE bosses are jaw-dropping and best i've seen in a game. The detail to some of the outer levels is also amazing showing so much detail. The enemy characters are sadly repeated quite a lot so expect to see the same ones a lot and also the same bosses appear more than once. I wish here more variety could have been provided, but even the mighty Halo has the same enemies often.Ai seems not bad but sometimes the bad guys will just stand and shoot without taking cover. Your team mates also don't appear to help that often too leaving you to do most of the work.Sound is ok, but some of the explosions sound weak and could have been improved. The Techno soundtrack whilst enjoyable is not good enough to remember after woodsYour character hides behind objects well, but lacks a real jump button. Sometimes you want to climb over something but you can't. The quick selection of your weapons is simple using the d-pad to pick what you want.I finished the game on easy in 5 hours without too much difficulty so I suggest trying a harder level to make it last longer. The credits at the end have been done amazingly and I won't spoil it for you.So for the money just go a grab a copy.. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

This game won the 2010 gamespot "best game no-one played". Directed by Shinji Mikami, it's a chaotic re-imaginined splicing of Resi 4 and Halo: combat evolved. Fights consist generally of swarms of smaller robots which each have a fairly good chance of taking you down one-on one up close, and massive bullet-hell bosses which in some cases can launch an insta-kill attack right you when you wipe out their health! It's a good job you have a reserve of time-slowing and slide-running tricks at your disposal to even the score. The game's very linear but this suits its combat and style-focus very well, borrowing a points system from the likes of Devil May Cry and Bayonetta. I personally loved the light sci-fi story, which is kind of an enjambment of metal gear solid and halo (lone DARPA operative sent to link up with troops and repel an invasion of russian robots on a ring-shaped planetoid). Some people have complained that it's not so hot in this department, but I thought that the characters of sam and ivanova were great (okay, I wanted to be sam and I'd definately at least try it on with ivanova). Finally, it's fairly short too - but if you're looking for a few evenings of great gameplay ideas, what-the-hell moments and excellent third-person shooting, you can't do better.

I'm a gamer in my early 30s. I've been playing games since the early 80s and needless to say things have changed a lot since then. I find myself frequently disillusioned with modern games. I have a huge collection of games I've barely touched regardless of critical acclaim. It's easy to think I've grown out of them, then a game like Vanquish comes along.I picked it up one drunken night when I went on an Amazon spending spree of discounted Xbox games. It had decent reviews so seemed worth a squirt. It's worth a lot of squirts. In many ways it's an old school shooter brought into the modern age. The graphics are pretty poor to be honest but possess a certain charm, especially the scale with which the game is set despite being completely on rails. The weapon upgrade system is highly rewarding as are the frequent boss battles. Even better for someone like me I can finish the game without needing to quit my day job. It takes a matter of hours (ignoring the obvious replay-ability). It's just relentless fun with plenty of checkpoints so you never have to really rage after dying (and you will). So to cut it short, this game deserves a purchase for just a few quid. Worthy of a few hours of anyone's time and certainly worth giving the developers some royalties.

Immediately when beginning this game, you will be blown away by the fast pace, action packed game play which is complemented by the stunning detail presented by the graphics and encapsulating plot. The game presents a large range of weapons and enemy characters for you to battle, with an interesting team based gameplay and cover system much like gears of war.I spent almost £[] upon this game and personally don't believe it was worth it. The game is great don't get me wrong, and contains highly addictive game play but it lacks any online multiplayer which is a real let down due to its relitively short campaign.I would say that this game is worth £20 at the most,as you do have the ability to unlock challenges throughout story mode which can be played and allows you to post your best time online, as well as having a campaign that is good enough to play through multiple times without becoming dull.I would recommend this game if you enjoy fast paced 3rd person shooter game, this is pretty much the equivalent to gears of war on acid. So if you enjoy gears of war you should buy this game, but for no more than £[].

Vanquish is a Gears Of War kind of game, with third-person action-shooting fun in constantly varying situations. Your character has a mechanical super-suit which makes him/you superfast and agile, with bullet-time capabilities to boot, and makes the gameplay an absolute hoot to play. It's made by a Japanese development team, and this unfortunately shows in the story, characters and dialogue, which is all riddled with clichés and weird non-sensical character behaviour. Next to that, you begin the game with the most boring tutorial ever, and after that, you start with all of your powers and capabilities for the entire game. This is a bit too much in the beginning, and was not necessary in my opinion. They could have easily implemented a system for unlocking moves and weapons, which would have been better. But all and all Vanquish is a top of the line third personshooter which just plays incredibly great once you get used to handling the powersuit, with lots of cool environments, situations and bad dialogue to keep you entertained for at least 7-8 hours total, until the (interactive) credits roll.

Hi Folks...I won't get into any long winded review, just the basics1). The Graphics and Eye Candy are the BEST Ive seen on the 360.2). Lighting, Textures and fps are brilliant.3). If you like Gears of War and 'Halo' type Games, then this is a must BUY, absolute immersion from the word GO.!4). The Developers obviously spent thousands of man hours getting this game right, and its paid off. (Bingo)5). This Game gets a Whopping 9/10 on gamespot, and they are very fair, when it comes to reviewing games. All I can say is this game really entertains, its fast and furious, its choice off weapons are cataclysmic and effective. The sound and voice overs, are definitely well above average,"big budget spent on Vanquish"; the characters easily likable.Lots of replay value, so its a game your gonna keep not put on ebay a month latter...What ya waitin' for please add it to your wish list, or basket... best Game this year.!Would make a NICE Gift for any '360 Gamer who likes their shooters', especially now that the Price ££££ has come away down from the RRP.Thanks for reading...

Vanquish is a 3rd person futuristic shooter. It's really fast paced and brings some very cool combat mechanics to the table. You play the guy that you see on the cover. From what I can gather the story is that you're a scientist that produced the super suit you're using, and it's the only one. You play him alongside military units including a big brash general type dude (can't remember his name), and basically your mission is a secret which the military don't know about which causes some big clashes between the characters. In terms of gameplay you spend your time moving really fast through enemies which requires a certain degree of skill. There are some really fantastic gameplay elements which include fighting ridiculously big robots or powersliding through lines of enemies. All in all if you like action games, I think you'll enjoy this one.Has kept me entertained for multiple hours.

Vanquish is a 3rd person shooter which kind of blows everything else out of the water. The game is fast paced, demanding a lot more skill and quick thinking then most recent cover shooters. While the story is beyond cliche (tongue in cheek, i hope) and the characters are your usual military beef cakes, I still very much enjoyed this game and found it very addictive. Its a shame its pretty short - being 6 hrs or so (it took me about 7 on hard,)but is this not the curse of modern gaming? However the game is relativly challenging and once completed a further difficulty level is unlocked. There are also challenges which, as with the main story, are somewhat difficult, and to some extent the game play suites the brief story. An all round good game, very fun, exciting and addictive.

I am a big fan of Halo Reach and other first person shooter games, so I was not so sure about buying this third person shooter game. But it is amazing! The story is so good it should be a film and the gameplay is more fun and addictive than any other game I have played! The graphics in the cutscenes are incredibly life-like (like a film, hint), and the graphics in the game itself are great aswell! The rating 15, in my opinion, is slightly high. I think a twelve probably would have been fine: There are one or two swear words in the opening cutsene and there is a little bit of blood in the final cutscene, but that is it. You do not even fight people, you fight robots. Overall: my new favourite game.Shame there is no online, though.

Very fun game to play, when playing you discover new tricks you can perform to make play that much more smooth. The challenge modes are excellent to play through when you unlock them upon completion of the main game, although like the main story mode you can expect to die a few times but that just drives you on more to beat the crap out of enemies. The only things i would complain about are some minor things which could have been added to the game, which would be the ability to jump and the ability to hop over ledges to get down to a lower platform, although like i say these are just minor things and the game is fine without them.Overall great game give it a go!

First of all I loved Bayonetta the first game from Platinum games this game however is something else.I got this game about two days ago at first I couldn't get into it but i just thought wait i just paid £25 for this game I'm gonna play it.I am so glad i did i have not completed it yet but it is amazing so far it takes everything i liked about Bayonetta and added new things. The main character is funny in places and the game has some very nice cut scenes the game overall is very nice visually and plays like it should, an over the top third person shooter and for £20.99 this is an ideal xmas gift it is just amazing.GET THIS GAME you won't be disappointed

What a fantastic ride! beautifully crafted by Sega Vanquish is a visual feast, the play is fast paced with a generous spread of bad guys to teach a lesson, but nothing compares to the super baddies who are frequently stepping in your way trying to stop your attempts to put a super weapon out of action before it destroys a major city within 8 hours. Its a 3rd person shooter with some neat tricks up its sleeve lots of different weapons to try and upgrade and a suit straight out of ironman closet, Sega really know how to put a plot together and the attention to detail is second to none. I really enjoyed this and would recommend it to any gamer

This game is brilliant and it's a suprise that so few have actually played it. I turned to this after being bored to tears by Gears, MoH, CoD etc. This is colourful, fast, clever, stylish, and rock hard - even on 'normal'. It's a game where you are expected to die a thousand deaths before figuring out how to get around any particular boss. That said, no matter how hard it is it remains highly addictive and great fun throughout. This is a game that should feature in anybody's top ten.
