This is a well made gate which should last for years. It comes well packaged and within 5 minutes it should be assembled and ready to install.I would suggest that you do not fix it to the all/door jamb before leaving it in place for a few days to just settle; basically you need to get the item "balanced" on its four fixing points so that the gate does not move when you leave it in any open position. So why 4 stars? Personally I did think that it should only be worth 3, but based on the quality of materials used for the gate, it squeezed in a 4. Basically my concerns are that the locking mechanism does not feel that robust, indeed, my clicks half way through closing it, before the latch is engaged on the gate, secondly and of equal importance, I would expect this gate to at least of through 90 degrees or more, however, swinging the gate out wards, it only opens about 85 degrees as the hinge mechanism impedes it. I will try and post a photograph to illustrate what I mean. It is so annoying as it restricts a narrow opening to something even more narrow, which with a little thought could have been negated. It does stop our border collie from exiting the utility room though, but the whole thing is that it is annoying that the gate won't open fully and only time will tell regarding the locking mechanism.SORRY, AMAZON FOR SOME REASON WILL NOT ACCEPT MY VIDEO, ALTHOUGH IT IS IN THE CORRECT FORMAT. WILL TRY AGAIN!

I love the Savic Dog Barrier Door (http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B003A6MFOA/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title)This is a fantastic way of keeping a busybody dog, away from the kitchen action but still stay part of the family. I put the Dog Barrier between the kitchen and the utility room. I can get on with baking and cooking without tripping over the whippet at my feet. He is safely out of my way but still able to see me and hear me and not feel left out. Also he can be left on the kitchen side as I open the back door to the postman etc.The whole thing is taller than the usual 'baby' gate but not obtrusively so and the grey colour is reasonably pleasant. The Barrier is left in place all the time and the gate only closed when necessary.I wish I had bought the dog barrier gate two years ago. I see today they are reduced in price - I may buy a second one - they're so useful.

The height is great. It is very secure (the base and the handle both hold the gate shut) and fits the door well. I chose this mostly because of the colour, which has worked out very well. It is not a silvery or blueish grey, but has a hint of muddy grey - hard to describe, but makes it less obtrusive on the eye when surrounded by plain wooden doors and surrounds. I have two issues with it though -1. It doesn't open wide enough, not even to 90 degrees. Our last gate opened well beyond 90 degrees making it much easier to negotiate. 2. It is not openable with one hand. I was almost tempted to return it for the two reasons above, but decided to keep it based on how secure it is and the colour.I think I will look for another make next time though which addresses my two problems.

This is a great gate. I fitted it in minutes and it's solid. There are some bad reviews on this that made me a bit dubious but I think it is more an issue with the people fitting it.I screwed mine into a doorway and afterwards I tried to rip the gate down....it stayed perfectly in position with barely any movement. This door doesn't open all the way but a quick trim of the plastic restrictors with a Stanley knife and problem solved....I fail to see why people are whining about that.I have a 26kg collie that has ripped out cat flaps and then the panels in the door but he hasn't yet managed to even mark this gate.10/10 for this gate and I would recommend anyone who has managed to lean to use therehands and simple tools.

This is a nice sturdy pet gate that so far has kept my Rough Collie where he should be. Fitting it was relatively simple, but it does help to have a second pair of hands to hold the gate when you're marking where the screws need to go in the door frame, if you want to fix it more permanently. There are two things that annoy me about the gate, which is why I haven't given 5 stars. Firstly the door doesn't open fully, making it difficult to carry bulky items through. And secondly, opening the gate is in two parts, you have to press the button and lift the handle, then you have to lift the gate slightly before you can open it. Fine if you're empty handed, not so easy when you're carrying a tray or a basket of laundry.

I purchased a Savic dog barrier last year and found the opening mechanism difficult as it required two hands to operate and it was very 'fiddly' and flimsy. It it broke within a few weeks of use. We have managed to use the gate as it has two clips at the base. Not ideal though !We needed a second gate and as Savic seem to be the only company making these gates ,we bought another one. What a wonderful surprise ! The opening mechanism has been redesigned and is both sturdy and simple to use. Well done Savic ! The gate is just the right height to prevent agile Border Collies from jumping over. Other makes we purchased in the past were too low.

After the first one sent back that had not been properly checked by the manufacturer so came with screws without holes or threads to fit to the wall, this one is perfect, very sturdy, very very tall, my GSD (who can leap 4ft walls) and my Labrador who bounces around like a jack in the box have not even tried to jump it, it looks good too and is portable which is excellent, could do with several around the house to control their access. The good thing is they have extensions for wide hallways to stop them both getting at the postman. Pricey but certainly worth it.

This is the third Savic gate we have had in 9 years but in different locations. The one that had previously been across our stairs deteriorated with the plastic housing the hinge spring cracking. However it got a huge amount of use every day so we think that 9 years of repeated use every day for £60 for the gate is actually good value and build quality. The photo shows where the previous gate cracked.Very easy to install. Very robust and smooth to operate. I hope we get another 9 years out of this new gate and our dogs certainly know what the gate means!

This was bought specifically to keep the dog away from the cat. We put it across the bottom of the stairs and it is just what we wanted. The colour is very good, better than stark white. It was relatively easy to fit and works well. The cat can go through easily, but the dog cannot get through the cat flap. We have a Labrador sized cross-breed dog and he is only able to get his head through. The shoulders prevent him getting through the small opening. It has allowed us to feel more relaxed as we no longer have to keep an eye on the dog all the time.

Very sturdy product, slightly higher than other "tall dog gates" to discourage the more agile canine companion! One very slight drawback to be aware of is that the opening is quite narrow, so if you have a wider than average beam it could be tricky to negotiate!Avoid having the screw bolts at their widest fitting, particularly when using at the foot of stairs, as this makes the gate easier to dislodge; we solved this problem by having wooden battens fixed to the wall to narrow the gap which also made it easier to fit gate securely.

We've had this gate for about a week now and it fits well and is very well built. The grey colour does make it less intrusive than the white one it replaced.Although it was the tallest I could find, our jumpy dog can still clear it! Not the manufacturer's fault so still five stars, I might have to get the dog a weight belt. One other thing to watch out for is this gate is so high that it fouls our door handle and we can't close the door with the gate in place. The previous shorter gate allowed the door to close.

BRILLIANT product, so so so so easy to install if you follow the ionstructions. IF you tighten it up REALLY REALLY TIGHT with your hands as you are supposed to then the latch works brilliantly and easily. UYou can tell rom the latch and gate if you have tighterned it up enough/too much. Our two large male bulldogs (both 30kg plus) can't get through this gate whereas they have DESTROYED numerous wooden/fabric/plastic baby gates.

I do a dog boarding business and there are dogs in my house all the time from different breed. I had one of those normal baby gates and big dogs could easily jumped over it and with a small push come off from the wall. but with this Savic gate i have non of those problems any more and no dog can jump over it. very please with this gate and its quality. lots of dog owners asked me about it and where did i got it. nice color too.

This is absolutely perfect - keeps our dogs in, can be installed without screwing into the wall (as long as you are not too heavy-handed with it when opening and closing) and it looks great. In the description it says it's not suitable for puppies, but I'm not sure why as it has been fine to keep ours from running upstairs when they're with us in the lounge and we bought it when they were 2 months old and used without issues.

This is a brilliant gate and keeps my jack russel from shooting to the front door to have their leg off everytime someone comes. Easy to put up and take down and very effective being heavy duty. It teaches her that she is not allowed to go past a certain point. The bars are close together so there is no fear of darting between and sneaking past. I love it.
