So the first of 2016s Monster High Movies is nearly out and the dolls are lining up the shelves. "Great Scarrier Reef" is a movie where the Monsters are taken to the depths of the Great Scarrier Reef, home to Lagoona. As a result of this all of the dolls have had a suitably aquatic makeover, with resident Bad Girl Toralei now being a Ghoulfish.Toralei's look is almost catfish like. She has a bright orange tail with black and white tiger stripes. Her body is the usual light orange colour with her face featuring tiger stripes on her cheeks and green and orange eye makeup including some glittery eye shadow. Her hair is her standard dark Orange with black stripes and its longer than her original look,being styled into a pony tail. Only a clear plastic band holds the pony in place, so once the kids get the doll it may not be in a pony tail for very long!Outfit wise there isn't a lot on this doll! All of her tail section is moulded, although the fin does detach she has no accessories or clothing on this section. On her top she has a long vest with splodges of pink and green on a black background. She also has a seaweed style green necklace. Most tops and accessories can be put on the doll, and you could possibly put some skirts on the tail section if you wanted. To make up for the lack of clothing and accessories the dolls each come with glow-in-the-dark features. Toralei features Tiger Stripe fins on her back which can be moved and detached if necessary. The nubs of each fin are different sizes so it’s easy to know where to put them back. What's nice about the fins are that the front and back both have the glow-in-the-dark effect to them. I didn't think the glow-in-the-dark effect would be very good, as the doll just has what looks to be phosphorescent paint on the fins. The effect with Toralei though is quite striking; usually glow-in-the-dark paint jobs are a pain to try and photograph, but even in a pitch black room you can see that Toraleis fins give off a good glow. The effect doesn't last too long and begins to get duller as the minutes go on, but if you expose the doll to a good dose of light in the day it should look great on display, especially if you have the whole series of them standing in a row!Toralei is part of the budget range dolls of Scarrier Reef, with Wave 1 consisting of her, Lagoona and Frankie. There are no stands, brushes or diaries with these dolls, but due to their Sea-Monster looks they have made the bottom half of the dolls able to support the doll and stand on their own! Monster High dolls have been notorious for falling over without a stand so it's nice to see Mattel finally releasing some dolls that can stand up unaided! If you're a collector who likes to keep the boxes just be aware that for the first time with Monster High Dolls a section of the plastic outer has been glued to the card! While the majority of the box is the usual plastic tabs that can be pulled out to take the cover off, on Toralei the top left tags by her name and about an inch down are tags that have been slotted in and also glued down. At first I thought the whole left section was glued, but if you look carefully you will see it’s just the two tags. If you gently wiggle them you should be able to get them out without damaging the card but it is a bit tricky. Also for parents, be aware that Toralei has three plastic tags attaching the back of her to the card. If you're the kids are the type who just pull the doll until loosens from the card grab it off them and cut the tags first or you may be left with a Toralei with a bald patch on her scalp!The Mermaid theme is not exactly new to the world of dolls, and it usually goes one of two ways - either the dolls get a slip on sheath over their legs or they come with half a hunk of plastic that never moves. Monster High went the hunk of plastic route, but brilliantly they added articulation to the usual hunk of plastic! The doll has no waist swivel but can move into a sitting position. Halfway down the tail section there is a ball joint allowing for it to rotate 180 degrees. Bending this joint though is a bit stiffer; it doesn't seem to bend even 90 degrees, so you can't really balance her kneeling as she leans forward. The fin at the bottom can also be move about and orange and black segments separate out allowing the doll to stand.Overall a really great doll, it looks good and the tail and glow in the dark features have been incorporated very well! I know my niece will be requesting more of these when the movie comes out!

this glow in the dark feature of toralie stripe is an amazing example of what she is going to look like in the filmshe is supposed to look like a lionfish

This doll is amazing, so much on it. Granddaughter absolutely loves it. If she is happy with it then so am I and would definitely recommend this item.
