MagLite - they're a design icon, lovingly engineered to be the best torch there is. The components are precision made, carefully finished, fit better than a tailored suit. And they have some mighty claims to live up to: "Built tough enough to last a lifetime", "they are water-resistant, shock resistant, corrosion-resistant and backed up by a limited lifetime warranty"Wait a sec - "limited lifetime warranty" - what part is 'limited'?A few days back I took a very late decision on joining a hike across Dartmoor, starting at 21:00, expecting to walk four hours into the night. I didn't check my five-year-old Mini MagLite AA incandescent - I'd used it intermittently over that time, it had never failed, hardly dimmed. No problem. Arriving at the start I suited up (it's Dartmoor, mid summer, and the mist and rain have kicked in. Situation normal). I dug out the MagLite, twisted the head, and on came the light. Then it flickered off, and on and off and... It was dimmer than I remembered, so maybe the batteries were failing. I carry spares, so off came the screw base. But the batteries won't budge, they're jammed inside the body. After some fiddling and no tools available another member of the group offers a spare head torch - the MagLite goes back in the bag, useless.Next day I research the problem. The MagLite 'limited warranty' states: "EXCLUSIONS:This warranty does not cover any of the following: 1. Battery exhaustion; 2. Battery leakage; 3. Lamp burnout; or 4. Damage to or failure of the flashlight or any component thereof due to alteration, misuse, battery leakage or lack of maintenance"...The (Duracell) batteries have leaked inside the body of my MagLite, and MagLites are built to provide a very snug fit for their batteries. There is a known fix for the goop which exudes from alkaline batteries, and that's to apply a weak acid - vinegar - to dissolve the effluent. While it's doing its thing I create a couple of tools to drive the batteries out of the MagLite body. The attempt fails. I also try driving a screw into the base of the one visible battery and pulling. That fails too. I conclude that even if I extract the batteries the MagLite body is likely to be corroded, scarred, close to unusable. It's binned. So: "Built tough enough to last a lifetime"? "corrosion-resistant"? Try Googling 'batteries stuck in MagLite'. You'll find lots of examples of people with lives as short as mine. But I have bought another MagLite (there's an appropriate quote from Forrest Gump here). LED this time, and yes, it's very bright. It will never hold an alkaline battery - I'm going for Lithium - and I'll keep the batteries out except when I need to use it; that should provide for a lot of fun in the wet on a dark night on the moor. (According to Energizer's website their "Lithium AA/AAA Batteries are GUARANTEED NOT TO LEAK." We'll see.)And MagLite, if you're reading, I have a suggestion for a design improvement for your torches which, according to Business Insider Singapore "are perfectly designed and can't be improved any more".They could. Get back to me.

Simply a fantastic update to an absolute icon, a classic. A revolutionary product brought upto modern day standards.I bought two of these on a flash deal at £30 each. I was curious to see which version arrived since there have been a number of revisions of the Mini Maglite Pro+, some with 270 odd lumens, some with 330 ish and now on the Maglite website the current version with 351 Lumens.I am pleased to say both of mine are the brand new 351 lumen version and I ordered when it was marked as out of stock, so guess that means the new stock is the new version from now on direct from Amazon. The Mini Maglite Pro+ is a touch longer than the original from years and years ago.The lens bezel cap is also slightly different in that it extends deeper onto the head of the light. This model boasts 2 modes, a low which you activate by pointing the torch down and then twisting the head. The high mode is activated by twisting the head when it's horizontal.Brightness is literally night and day compared to every mini mag before this one. The incandescent one being only 10 lumens ish, and we are now at 351. Obviously there are much brighter lights available for less money but they are cheap Chinese rubbish. 351 Lumens is a great amount of light that will illuminate just about anything you need to. It retains the maglite spot flood twist focus as well which means this light throws much better than some others on the market that boast far more power. This runs just fine on AA alkaline cells as well as Nimh rechargeable. I suggest using eneloop Pro's.With Eneloop Pro cells you can expect nearly 3 hours run time on high. The low mode also puts out plenty of light for general use, it will illuminate entire rooms and wherever you are walking in the dark as well. The beam pattern on this is also much smoother than what I am used to with other mags. I have two original mini maglite that I have done Terralux LED conversions on at around 150 lumens. This new Pro+ is a much more intense light with a smoother beam pattern as well. And yes folks, you can remove the head and use candle mode just like you could before.Fantastic update to a much loved classic!

The listing details on Amazon at the time of buying show a photo of the packaging which states 245 lumens on this version. I have uploaded a photo of what arrived and it was actually 281 lumens. Can’t complain, I’m fully aware newer product versions get sold through older listings which might not be updated. However, knowing that fakes can be floating around on Amazon i did the recommended product registration on the Maglite website, entering the product ID etc and it accepted it. I suspect the Maglite site doesn’t confirm 100% either way but helps them keep tabs on these things. That’s a big positive as I don’t want to run the risk of buying a fake any more than they want to loose sales and reputation. That alone is a worthy reason to participate in the product registration scheme even if it doesn’t enhance your warranty. This purchase is me switching back to Maglite from LedLenser. Initially impressed i was later disappointed with some torches which had wobbly heads and bad connections meaning that they would turn on and off according to how much you banged them (video being made to upload on the Amazon product review). Maybe i bought a fake, but how could i buy another if that risk exists? Now that Maglite have finally made the switch to LED lighting (arguably 10 or 20 years later than the could have) i was willing to make the switch back.So the torch, yeah, 281 lumens is more than enough for a dog walker or for following an unlit footpath in the countryside. It’s more than sufficient for any indoor scenario such as a power cut at home or a nocturnal visit to the garden shed. The power can indeed be overkill in some situations, like illuminating your tent (the lanyard and naked bulb are a perfect combination for this) so Maglite gives a low power mode which extends the battery life massively. Avoiding the use of switches which can break and are hard to waterproof, Maglite uses some internal magic. You point the torch down and on/off it to switch between low and high power mode.Everything else is as it should be, a pouch is included, functional but not as well designed as a LedLenser pouch and there are a pair of Duracell batteries.

I first bought a Maglite AA torch back in 1991. It was frankly amazing for the time. A small pocketable torch with an aluminium body which oozed quality and was as bright as my fathers Ever Ready 2 D cell torch. It was the bees knees at the time.Well times have moved on and in that time the introduction of the LED as a cost-effective alternative has taken the whole lighting industry by storm. And sadly the original incandescent AA Maglite has now become hopelessly outmoded. Chinese manufacturers such as Fenix were getting the market sewn up. So Mag Instruments had to respond and the LED Maglite AA is the answer. This is the latest in a list of Maglite AA LED variants which started off as very expensive upmarket model. But the pace of progress has brought better and cheaper LED’s ands as a result we now have a 280 Lumen version which is way in excess of anything Mag has done before. But the good news is that the increase in performance has not compromised the other attributes of the AA Maglite. The build quality is still there, being constructed of anodised aluminium which is both tough and hard wearing. And unlike almost all competitors the ‘spot to flood’ function beam adjustment is still there. In practice the AA Maglite produces a high quality bean with an almost perfect white colour. It also has a useful reduced power beam, activated by holding the torch down before turning on, a ‘candle mode’ where the head can be taken off, put face down then the tail of the torch placed in it turning the torch into a mini lamp..ideal for camping. As this torch uses AA batteries which are more leak prone than lithium CR123As for example PREMIUM CELLS LIKE PANASONIC EVOLTA, DURACELL ETC ARE COMPULSORY cheaper cells will leak and possibly ruin the torch (NOT covered by warranty). But as pocket torches go, this is an absolute bargain, is bright enough for almost all regular eventualities and is probably going to outlast more expensive more ‘tecchie’ rivals.Thoroughly recommended.

I bought this item through E-Bay but so impressed have I been with it that I thought I should write a review on Amazon so that other potential consumers out there may get some value from this review.Like others, I was in the market for a decent torch but one with a small physical footprint. I have never owned a Maglite product before but always heard about how good they were. I recently bought an LED push light and that was pretty impressive so whilst waiting to receive this Maglite torch I kept thinking to myself, well, they are both LED based, how much better is the Maglite really going to be.Answer - insanely and ridiculously better. This torch is so damn bright, you'd think you were shining one of those concert spotlights into the air. I embellish a bit but honestly, the light from this torch is so massively bright it beggars belief that something so small can emit such a bright light.Usability is perfect. You twist the head to turn on and turn more to change from the brightest spotlight mode to a slightly less bright flood mode. I say slightly because the thing is still so bright. The power saving feature of pointing downwards before turning on is also in my opinion, a fantastic idea and credit to the design folks from Maglite for thinking this one up.The torch itself feels great in the hand and very easy to operate one handed.Enjoyment factor is off the scale. I went to take the trash out the other night, just so that I could play with this torch and shine it into the trees about 30m away. At this distance, it lit the entire are up like a massive floodlight. Hope the neighbours don't think the police were around. Conclusion: Bang for your buck, this product NAILS it!! I'd be seriously shocked if you didn't get massive enjoyment out of this product.

I bought a chinese made, highly rated, hi intensity light. I liked it and it worked but had too many features. Always ended up in strobe, sos or some other mode when all I wanted it to do was turn on. I was thinking that it sure would be nice if one of these lights was made in USA. I realized that the slightly outdated Mini Mag Lite on my belt right then (as it has been for the last 15 years) was American all the way. I went to their website and there the Mini Pro was exactly what I wanted from a company I had trusted for years. So I returned my Chinese one, and ordered a Mini Mag Pro. Loved it!!!! Only complaint was that when doing a close look at something, it was too bright.I then bought a Pro + with the low intensity beam setting and all was great. And the low intensity setting is easy to turn on. If there was any complaint it was that on the beam focus both models did not do much like the old Xenon bulb models. But you don't need it there is so much light. It is all I carry now. My regular pro is my spare now but if it was the only model available I would still use it. And it is less expensive.Yea USA!!!Two things one should know. If you have a good quality leather case for your old MIni Mag AA the Pro's are about 5/8 "longer and won't work. I have always liked a leather snap scabbard personally but have to say that the case that comes with the package works just fine.

The Mini Maglite Pro+ is certainly much brighter than the "standard" Mini Maglite LED. It is in fact so bright that one wishes for the dimming control of the older version. To dim the Pro+, one must turn it on while holding the flashlight vertical with the head pointed down. With the older version, on once brought it on full brightness, on a second time in fairly rapid succession turned it on at reduced brightness, and on a third time caused it to strobe. I never knew what the strobe function was for (not the same as the SOS function), but it was there. The Maglite would further benefit from a constant current circuit, which would maintain lamp brightness over the life of the battery.Fenix and other (more expensive) flashlights have that, but Maglite doesn't.The Maglite is good for outdoor use, but if you want a mini flashlight primarily for looking inside computers or other equipment, the standard LED mini maglite is cheaper and more appropriate for that purpose.Still, for $30, one gets a very bright flashlight, which is a big step forward from the older products.Maglite touts the "full flap" holster for this flashlight. But that's not what is in the package with the new Pro+. One gets the same black pocket that came with the old model. Amazon sells two models of the full-flap holster, and th AM2A056 does NOT fit the Pro+.

i have the mini maglite pro and recently bought the pro plus. i like the low and high settings on the plus very useful. the extra 19 lumens that the pro has is very noticeable in brightness. the mini pro has fallen 10 feet from roof to driveway quite a few times, has being drop in lake and river (2 feet), just abused and still working strong. so i know the pro plus will take the same abuse without failing when i need it. i always took my pro with my belt holster.btw my pro caught a thieve. late at night i was walking to open the front door (luckily my wife and two kids stayed in the car) and suddenly heard noise by the tree (i thought it was a squirrel or raccoon).took the flashlight out and pointed it directly where i heard the noise. and notice a guy on the tree (couldn't believe it). also notice some christmas lights on the grass (stealing). i told the guy wtf are you doin? and blah blah blah i calling the cops. he got off the tree and tried to charge at me. i pointed the flashlight hotspot right to his eyes he got blinded (while i was talking to the 911 operater) he took off running 3 mins later the cops got him hiding under a car a block away.so i know the extra lumens (brightness) will help alot if it comes to a same situation.

the reason I give it 4stars instead of 5 is because I only used this like 4 days and notice that it heats up quite fast, its too much power for such a small flashlight, also one night I thought that maybe the LED light burned out on me, since it stopped working all of a sudden, but all i did was take the batteries out, and put them back in (same batteries) and it continued working perfectly.Iam a security guard and I do use and abuse the flashlight that I have. I notice that after using such powerful lights (with alot of lumen level) every weekday for at leas 4 hours every night, the brightness just fades away and its not as bright like it used to be. I own a 225 lumen tactical flashlight, and my 75 lumen flash light i got from waltmart is now better and brighter.but this here is a MAGLITE king of all flashlights. I trust all MAGLITES, and I hope this one really last and performs better then any other light out there. its brighter then my maglite 2D LED flashlight. if this small and powerful flashlight takes the beating, i will continue buying it again, and again. so far, price does match the quality.

I purchased this for a backpacking camp out as I was tired of the super light LED flashlights with almost no lumen output. The 25% power mode is enabled by pointing the flashlight down, and then twisting it on as usual. The light supplied was more than enough for walking around a campsite. Actually a bit blinding to other's night vision. I almost wish they had an even lower power mode! Maglite claims the batteries will list 27 hours in this mode. The full power mode is like a spotlight, great for when you want to light up the forest. I don't use it much, but good to have for emergencies, or when you need it. Maglite claims in full power mode the batteries will last 2.25 hours with a 245 lumen output. With it's made in USA quality Maglite is always a win.I went with the Pro+ because the regular LED mini-mag has a significantly lower lumen output (77), and the Pro doesn't have a power save mode. Although now that I've seen the ultra brightness of the Pro+, I might be willing to give the regular mini-mag LED a try.The 4.15oz weight is a little much for backpacking, but well worth it.

I was in the market for a small good quality torch for the glove compartment in my car. In the past I'd had Maglites. I've still got a 6 D cell version that I've had for over 20 years and still performs very well. A few years ago if you wanted a top torch the only real choice was a Maglite, but now there are many contenders available. I'd just about decided on an LED Lenser, Police Tech or T7, but after much research I came to the conclusion that these torches are flawed, there are many good reviews out there, but just too many bad one's, mostly relating to the on/off switch. So, I went for a trusty Maglite, this AA Pro+ is certainly very bright, solid build quality and the familiar twist for on/off and beam focus, also 2 power settings, 100% and 25% which is useful. The only small criticism is the flood to spot focus, not as pronounced as the old incandescent versions, but I think this is just the way it is with LED light sources. Overall though, a really good torch in the Maglite tradition.

I bought this in time for my trip out of town. We stayed at a beach resort that is quite isolated in a far end of the island and one night my friends and I decided to go out and grab some BBQ. We had to walk about 2 kms away for that and the first 500 meters is pitch black with no other light apart from the stars that night! So, walking on a rocky road was a bit tricky, but I told my friends, have no fear--I got a Maglite mini! I love the way it lit up the path before us! It was sooo bright and at that point I was really, really happy with my purchase!Just be aware that it does get a bit warm in the hands when using the full power after several minutes. So,I had to switch it in less bright mode--but it still is good enough to light our way. Also, thought it was better that way so we can preserve the batteries.Looking forward to bringing this again for my next outdoor trip when I go camping in Australia! ;-)

Cannot go too far wrong with one of these.Worth reading the instructions so you know how to turn it on in low power mode, because it will eat the batteries otherwise. In high power mode the brilliance of this torch is great, and the ability to focus the beam is as always very useful.Low power mode is all you need for close use, and the extended life you get out of the batteries is worth having.Team the torch up with a pair of Energiser Ultimate Lithium batteries and you have a torch that will perform well in pretty extreme temperatures, and provide better battery life too with the 3000mAh capacity of those batteries. The 'shelf'life of about 20years of these batteries also means that if you do leave it with these batteries in for an extended period you won't have leaks wrecking your torch.Robust, and able to survive drops this is one torch that should last you for ages.

Have been searching for the ultimate reliable torch that I can simply put in my pocket. Been lots of disappointments. Some seem to have the lumens but not robust switching etc. My best and most reliable so far was a £20 Revolution front cycle light, that was small, light and very easy to carry about. This Maglite beats it. I've been used to this style of Maglite in the past with old technology but this new LED version is great. Expensive best pocketable torch I've had so far. Switch on/off is the traditional Maglite twist which can be a bit of a hassle sometimes. I prefer an on/off switch. Its too early to tell how/if it will last. Sometimes when I tap the end the light flickers off, then on again.Don't know yet if this is just a loose battery or loose connection but I'll keep an eye on it. So far, very pleased with it

Spiders have evolved to where some of them can make almost invisible webs in your house. This powerful little light will help you spot them. Also, it lights up the yard. Pretty nice to have a powerful flashlight for a change. We have mountain lions around here and I believe they will scat if illuminated by this. It works on all of your common varmints. Some complain about the twist to switch action. A button on the back would have been better, but I am ok with it as it is.There was some of that turning off while in use syndrome. I turned it on and off a bunch of times in order to create a good contact. So far this has worked.Like many others,I appreciate the made in USA sticker and bought it over the 1.3 million competitors from China! It would be cool to have a version with three or four batteries.
