Last week, I decided that I had enough of the cheap Chinese tactical flashlights and decided to get a high quality light without breaking the bank. The Mini Maglite LED Pro is a superb flashlight and has become my EDC flashlight of choice. This flashlight has one mode, full brightness at 226 lumens. This is more than enough to dazzle someone or throw a beam up to 500 feet. However, it will destroy your night vision due to its high brightness if used to read a map or search a room. If having a low brightness mode in a tactical flashlight is important to you, buy a good-quality flashlight with a low mode of 5 or 10 lumens. (Most cheap flashlights have a low mode of 50-100 lumens, which is no better for night vision.) Otherwise, I would recommend purchasing a AAA keychain flashlight like the Fenix E01 for low brightness uses. For a cheat low mode, turn on the flashlight and continue turning until it comes unfocused and begins dimming. Do not unscrew it so far, however, that the head falls off. A rough estimate of this low mode to be around 40 lumens, with the other 180 lumens being simply wasted. To turn off the flashlight, partially unscrew the tailcap. The flashlight is sturdily constructed, with the LED providing added resilience to the already sturdy Maglite Mini as there is no bulb to burn out. I have seen a Maglite Mini incan thrown out of a moving car at high speed continue working, even though it looked completely trashed. I trust this flashlight not to start flickering or otherwise malfunctioning after an accidental drop. It is fall rated at one meter, but it can handle more. Rubber seals make operation of the flashlight smooth, as well as providing a water seal. Add petroleum jelly to keep them lubricated. The holster is very sturdy and simply designed, and the Maglite is both easily accessible and does not fall out or get in the way.For someone used to reverse clicky-style lights, turning the head requires getting used to, but soon it will become second nature. The barrel is easily gripped, and the tailcap can be used as a kubotan-style weapon of last resort. If you like Maglite and clicky flashlights, look into the Mag-tac or XL line of lights.Despite the warnings on the package, I use 1.2V NiMH batteries and it works fine, although with some loss of brightness (160 lumens). Current draw was somewhere around 2.5 amps last time I checked. The deciding factor was that this flashlight was made in the USA. This, as well as its surprisingly low price when compared to other brand name flashlights, made it a must-buy.Edit: I performed a runtime test with this light today. It is rated at 2 1/2 hours with alkaline batteries. With mostly charged NiMH batteries, this flashlight has been running for 4 hours, and it is still putting out about 40 lumens. One gets less brightness with NiMH but greatly increased runtime... and it just blinked out at 4 hours. If you still need light, wait a little and turn it back on; it may give you more light. Battery voltage is 0.98 V.One word of warning: be sure to use good batteries in this flashlight. Leaking batteries will corrode the aluminium, causing stuck batteries and a potentially ruined flashlight. Duracell or a similar brand that gives you a refund for a damaged product is the best.

This company is known for high-quality products, and the Mini PRO LED is no exception. It just works, and beautifully. And the 10 year warranty tells you they are confident in their product.Light Quality: Compared to ThruNite which is yellow-ish, and YiFeng which is blue-ish, the light from the Maglite is so natural, just like you'd see in the day. This colorimetry is a huge gain when looking at large areas, for it makes it easier to pick out details that you want to recognize, instead of just casting a huge yellow light on everything or a huge blue-green light on everything. 2 thumbs up to MagLite for this.I also like the use of 2 AA.Ease of use: What is awesome is that for anyone used to using small MagLites, this one is similar in that with barely a twist you immediately get a ton of light. Outside, the intensity, distance, and side to side range is fabulous and makes this light a clear winner in comparison to others. The finish is high quality and the candle mode is also a nice feature to continue having just like the previous incandescent models. The long focus depth is great. It says 332 lumens and 172m of range, but comparing it to the YiFeng which is supposedly 1000 lumens, the Maglite is actually much better at almost any distance. So I suspect MagLite is being conservative with it's specs, and YiFeng might be exaggerating their's.It's also awesome that MagLite gives you the first set of batteries, and not cheap ones either. Nice, good quality batteries -- that's great value. The only drawbacks -- minor issues, but I'll name them:1 - The belt holder isn't a real benefit for me. I've often received them with other small MagLites, but seldom used them. Instead, a nice wrist lanyard to avoid dropping the light -- that would be nice and most competitive products are offering some nice ones.2 -- packaging isn't easy to open or eco-friendly -- MagLite needs to work on this, since the days of using an Xacto blade to open clamshells is supposed to be behind us.

Look at the pics I uploaded!I bought this LED flashlight because I was tired of the awful light produced by my old ass incandescent flashlight, and I'm mostly glad I made the change. ...I mainly bought this light to help me see into the dark areas of my computer tower, so I could check for dust, etc. And oddly enough, the light is sometimes so bright that I actually have to aim it away from my target: it's just really freaking bright up close. In fact, it's so bright that it gets pretty warm -- even HOT! I question the longevity of this Maglight due to how warm the bulb gets. I'd even estimate that the LED gets so bright that you'd be able to place a drop of water on it, and watch it boil away in no time.Do NOT shine this light into other people's eyes, they'll have their vision "smeared & impaired" for a good 2+ mins (just like when a driver in oncoming traffic uses his high beams on you, but worse).Pros:+ Ridiculously bright.+ As far as I can tell, it's built well.+ Has a focus adjuster, to make the light more/less focused.+ Great for viewing objects that up to ~60ft away (depending on ambient light).Cons:- Too bright to use when observing objects that are closer than 6".- The LED gets really warm, really fast: I timed the bulb with my thermometer and a stopwatch, and it reached 120F in 21 seconds (I couldn't read any warmer, because my thermometer is too basic).- I can see this being too bright for some tasks: I found it a bit too bright when trying to examine the innards of my computer tower. If you're looking to blind your neighbors, or cook an egg [joke], then this is the flashlight for you! I recommend it, because it's really bright, and is great for almost any distance -- except for objects closer than 6" (it can be too bright). Take a look at the pic of the light shining though my thumb!

The brightness durability, dependability, and versatility of this light make it a great light for a security, defense, or a rugged work light. It is large enough to just about keep in your pocket if you wanted to (I have kept it in my front pocket and it works great) but I think it serves even better as a home security light or hung from a belt holster. I have thoroughly tested the durability by buying more than one of these and trying to destroy them. They are extremely durable and even after being thrown as high as I can throw it and then landing on my cement driveway multiple times this light fuses to quit and works flawlessly.I have thrown it out my 2nd floor apartment Window onto cement only to find it completely unharmed except for some minor scrapes or scratches. If you needed to you could use this to blind an attacker or even strike them with the tailcap like a kubaton. I think this light is an excellent home security light because it is rugged and bright and just about large enough to get the job done without adding too much weight to your hands leaving you struggling you open doors for to make sure your family is secure. Police and security personnel used to use the incandescent versions of these when they were around 10 lumens with an incandescent bulb. I can assure you that 332 lumens is more than enough to light up your world. Just buy it it's perfect and I prefer this over Streamlight and other types of flashlights I've tried. Double A batteries are easy to find even if you have to take them out of another device in desperate circumstances and they are very inexpensive. This light is durable, dependable, and very bright. This thing is built to last a lifetime. Buy it.

Maglight seems to still be lagging behind the current level of LED flashlight technology. Don't get me wrong, their low lumen outputs provide for good run times and their lights are much brighter, and for longer distances, than you would think, just going by their lumen ratings. Their excellent reflector design and spot-to-flood focusing makes the Maglights much more useful than they might seem if you just go by the rated lumen output. And this focusing ability, or lack of, is why I only give the Mini Maglite PRO 4 stars instead of 5. I have a Maglight 3D cell LED flashlight that gives as much illumination (at spot focus) at 500 feet as my Fenix TK41, yet the Fenix cost about 5x as much, and has about a 5x higher lumen rating. It is the 3D Maglight's ability to focus that does this, and this is where the Mini Maglite PRO falls down. It's focusing ability (my flashlight, at least) goes from Flood with a large brighter spot (can't call it a hot spot) to slightly less flood with a slightly smaller and brighter bright spot. It will not even come close to the tightly focused beam of the bigger Maglights, or even my (non-PRO) 2AA Mini Maglite LED flashlights. It is a good floody light, but if it had the ability to tightly focus like my other Maglights do, it would be a terrific light. Especially at this price point. I don't regret buying it, but it is somewhat of a niche flashlight due to it's lack of ability to tightly focus, whereas my other Maglights are good all use flashlights.

I normally like to carry ledlenser torches as the quality is generally excellent until recently when things went downhill, allow me to explain. I work in a prison and having a small torch on my belt is a must have when working nights where I need to check on landings and vulnerable prisoners at risk of self harm. I used to carry a ledlenser p4 which is a tiny pen diameter torch that you could twist the head to focus the beam through cell doors, the newer ones have a push and pull design that pivots on a plastic shaft and is a sloppy change. The biggest gripe is that the screw threads for the tail cap are made of plastic and god forbid you should cross thread them!.I picked up the Maglite pro led and was pleasantly surprised to see that the lumen output on mine was up to 332 lumens from the advertised spec and provides an excellent beam that goes from spot to flood rather than the other way round ( I prefer this) the other good thing is that there is no switch to fail like even some high end lights on the market. battery life is rated at 2.5 hours which is thirsty but with the dazzling light produced is to be expected. the only thing I don't like is the holster which wont fit a 2 inch duty belt and doesn't have a retention strap to keep the torch from falling out. the torch is rated at IPX 4 which means it will survive water being poured on it at any angle but may not survive being submerged.

We bought this mini-mag because of it being USA made craftmenship,it is our 3rd maglite. We usethe 77 lumen mini-mag for most things but when its really dark we now use the 226 lumen profor around town and park trails at night. My wife is much safer with it, can be used as a tach lite also.Mind you will not always use it for evrything way too bright, we have a Dorcy 220 lumen light rechargable (also bought from amazon), a little big to carry at nightime.Compared to our other 220 lumen it is comparable, we have 3 batteries for the dorcy and all LED lites this bright burn a lot of power. We have found that the mini-mag Pro goes well over the 2 1/2 hour rating, more like 3 hours, but you will only use something with that strong of a lite part time.We are planning to get rechargable AA for all our Maglites.Should last for years, the making of a mag lite is beyond most anything you get from china. So simple to just grab a $2 4 pack of brand name batteries and your set, good for security at night makes it daylight. Does not run very warm, is sleek got the belt sheath from Amazon for under 6 bucks, came with two copper tops, we also use rao-vac alkaline. It makes a very good candle light also, buy it but remember to use it in it's own arena not for lower power everyday use really, more cost effective that way also.Shipping was free and was here in 2 days, that was cool.

Flashlights have come a long way in the past 5-10 years. I researched small flashlights thoroughly as we had a massive hurricane headed our way and I wanted small but durable flashlights that would emit a lot of light. These were perfect! I bought 2 and the llights are so bright that you cannot look at them directly. When shined on the ground or floor they produce a bright and large lit area, without the dark spot in the center of the lighted area like the old flashlights used to have. Gone are the days of having to hold the flashlight in "just the right spot" to see what you're looking at. Shine this in the general direction and still be able to see small objects clearly. This flashlight comes with a belt holster but also has a small hole at the end of the handle that you could thread a small cord through to wear around your neck if you (or a kid) wanted to. It easily converts to "candle mode" to allow enough light all over the room to see how to fix a sandwich etc without electricity.I purchased my original Maglite over 20 years ago, which I still have and it still works just as well as it did the day I purchased it. However, it's really heavy, takes 3 size D batteries, and isn't that bright. It was top-of-the-line in it's day, but the Mini Pro Led 2-cell are so much better!

I have read complaints that the LED Maglites flicker on and off, similar to older incandescent models. I use mine on a daily basis, flicker free, and have shared these tips with others at work. One problem that I have encountered is sticky operation of the head with flickering. That is easily solved by adding a VERY SMALL amount of electrical joint compound to the threads at both the head and tail (anti-oxide compound, such as "Noalox"). Clean the threads when they become contaminated with dirt, and replace the contact compound. Wipe the ends of the batteries to make sure they are clean - even a little oil off your hands can make a difference. Check to see if the ends of the batteries are dimpled and making poor contact, generally caused by dropping the flashlight on end. Also, gently stretch the spring battery contact in the base, if it has become overly compressed. While the older incandescent Maglites would light until the batteries were completely dead, the LED's must have a certain amount of capacity left to forward bias the LED. I have seen people blaming their LED lights when it was simply a symptom of low batteries. I am amazed at how bright this flashlight shines - almost too bright at times for close-up work!

I've have two Maglites, A mini aa and a pen light, for lack of a better description, and the mini was ok but not very bright until it was focused then it was usable. I do a lot of low light and night photography so the pen light comes in very handy because it's so dim it doesn't hurt my night vision and I can make adjustments without using the rear LCD screen or look for something in my camera bag. It's really useful that way. But I also needed a brighter flashlight for general purposes so I bought the Maglight Mini Pro and I was surprised at how bright this thing is. Plus it's focused when it's turned on, extending the head makes it softer.I don't have a Lux meter but I do have an exceptionally good light meter and comparing the Maglight to a 60 LED light panel it's about 4+ stops brighter from one meter. Of course the lite panel is not focused nor is it diffused and that does make a big difference. Regardless I've already have made a DIY cap for the to create a very narrow beam to create specular high lights on product shots, such as watches and jewelry. For 20 bucks I have bought myself a versatile tool.

I work as a delivery driver and at night a flashlight is an absolute necessity. I've used Maglite's other Mini LED flashlight for a few years (the 97 lumen one), but I was looking for something a bit brighter. The PRO is like having a miniature sun in your pocket. This will easily light up the entire front of houses & apartment buildings to clearly see addresses, and will do a decent job of lighting up poorly lit streets and streetsigns. The end does get a bit warm if you have it on for any length of time (30+ seconds), but that's to be expected for the amount of power crammed in to such a small flashlight.Battery life is alright for a flashlight of it's size and power.I do find myself having to change them out about every two weeks or so, so if you care about the environment at all I would suggest investing in rechargeable AA batteries to use with this. One feature that would be nice to have is a reduced-brightness mode to extend the battery life, the other Mini LED light has it so it's too bad Maglite couldn't add the feature to the PRO. Not a major loss, but still room for improvement.

There's endless torches on here. Endless. with so many claims and so many just don't meet those to varying degrees. Its nice Maglight have caught up with better LED technology. It's full Maglight quality and durability. Its nice and bright and as Maglight, its as bright as it claims.Doesn't claim to be millions of lumens as others on here, but they don't deliver on that.It takes standard batteries. Personal preference on this, bigger fancier batteries can drive more power from other torches. But then they need to be charged.I travel with this, so the ability to easily get new batteries is important.Power to weight is good.Go to The Torchsite co uk and get a glass breaking end cap for it.Rounds off the versatility of it,if one ever needs to break a window, especially a double glazed on, it can do it when just banging on it with a normal torch is not likely to break it.Finally, like with the old bulb models, the end screws off and it can stand up and illuminate a room like a candle, where as I don't think any? of the others do this as they only throw light forward.

I ordered this flashlight three days ago and just received it in the mail today via USPS. Very quick shipping and a nice and smooth transaction. It's daylight right now so I'm not really able to test this flashlight out in the dark yet. I will do that tonight for sure and update this review so check back here later. So far this flashlight feels just like the typical 2 AA mini maglite LED flashlight. Same size and weight. Besides being the newest 2 AA flashlight that Maglite has come out with, this particular model (Mini Maglite Pro) is a very basic model. It's either on or off with the typical twist bezel to focus the light. I notice that the light has a purple-ish tint to it similar to the Maglite XL200.I'm not super crazy about that. I actually prefer the light to be more white in color. It just seems brighter to me if it's a white light. That has to do with the type of LED Maglite uses.I uploaded a couple of photos so you can see the actual packaging of what I received.More review to follow after I actually compare this flashlight with other flashlights I own.

And thats really because if you are buying a aa mini maglite if any variety, your expectations arent tremendously high. They arent high performance lights in regards to output, and this version doesnt really deviate from that. Being powered by 2 aa batteries, you cant really expect it to be a light saber though. They are good looking lights, they are very tough and they work. This one is no different.Light color is nice, fairly white.Beam shape through its range of focus is the same that maglite has had since the beginning, so if a high quality flood is what you are looking for, this isnt for you, but if you arent too particular, its a tough light and it will last you for a long time.Candle mode is actually really useful.Fit and finish is standard maglite good tolerances. For the money its hard to find a tougher more dependable light that you can almost always find batteries for. Works well with NIMH batteries, though slightly less bright with those but thats the battery and not the light.

A well built, rugged flashlight from one of the world's premier flashlight makers, this unit features an LED bulb that stretches the battery life and is significantly brighter than the old incandescent models.Other than that, it's the same familiar form factor as the older Mags and operates the same way, twist on, keep twisting to remove the head and use like a candle. It's a really bright light and will leave you blinking and half-blinded if you stare at it for too long.I've gone through probably a couple dozen cheap LED flashlights, like the kind in the 6-for-$10 bubble packs at the big box stores, and they tend to just wear out and stop working for some reason. But the Mag inspires a higher level of confidence.By the way, I also converted an older Mag to LED using a kit I ordered here on Amazon, and it's approximately as bright and useful as the new one. In fact, the conversion kit includes a push-button on the bottom of the flashlight, a handy enhancement.Highly recommended.
