Verdict: 4 1/2 starsPOSITIVE- It is a nice approach. I personally use it to scratch off the countries where I have lived and worked - and where I plan to live and work in the future. I don't need to see where I was in holidays. It's not a competion to see the whole Earth for me. But it gives me a visual feedback where I have lived and made real experiences over years and where I plan to live in the future. For my use I love it- It looks quality. It's in gold and black and where you scratch off in other colors- It comes nicely packed, good for a present. I just made a present to myself ;-)- Once the country is scratched off, the country name (or state name like in the US),the captial and other big cities becomes visible. Apart from countries that are so tiny that there is no space (like the country I was born in, Switzerland, which is sooo tiny it only shows an the letter 'S' as country name...NEGATIVE:- As other reviewers remarked, it is not super easy to scratch off exactly the countries. But possible. Don't use a coin if you want to be exact, but something better. For me a guitar plex worked well, other suggested the eraser tip of an eraser pen. But with some patience, it works nicely and gives a nice result- Personally I would prefer if there was no additional information below the Earth map (in my case mountain peaks, largest lakes etc.). But this is personal preference- It seems like for example in Europe all countries have the same color while scratched off. May be cheaper to produce, I would have preferred it a bit more colorful as in each country his own color.Summary:Nice map, cool idea. Bit difficult to scratch. I like it a lot still.

I had previously seen the white version of this map and thought it was a great idea, so decided to buy one as a gift for my much travelled partner. It was only when I started to search online that I discovered this deluxe version, and ordered it.It arrived beautifully presented in a strong colourful tube (not folded as another reviewer received) rolled around tissue paper to protect the scratchable surface. It is fairly large, being about A1 sized, so make sure you have sufficient wall space for it. We put ours in a glassless frame with a hardboard back and are very happy with the appearance. This does not make it easy to scratch off areas around the perimeter, but it is worth the extra trouble. The black and gold colour scheme is very smart so it looks great and attracts attention. I am not convinced about the info graphics along the bottom of the map - they do include some fun items, but I think they detract a little from the overall look of the map. The map is printed on quite heavy duty card, so it takes a while before it stops trying to roll itself back up again. But the advantage of the heavy card is that you are not going to scratch through the printed surface beneath the gold covering.Deciding what to scratch may lead to some indecision. Does changing planes at Shanghai airport entitled you to scratch off China? For now we have just cleared off Shanghai with the idea that we will remove the rest if we ever go outside that city/airport.Overall I am very pleased and happy to recommend it to others

Be careful when ordering this product. Make sure the map is dispatched from UK otherwise you can get a cheap Chinese fake instead. I have bought two of these, one from Amazon (dispatched from UK) and the other one from MicroKingdom (Dispatched from somewhere in far Asia), that allowed to actually see the MASSIVE difference in quality of both products. Needles to say that original map (dispatched from UK) is a beautiful product with lots of details and high quality material where the fake is not worth a penny. It's an amazing gift idea and nice inspiration for further travel.I have attached photos comparing both of the maps and the tube, the fake one is always on the left on comparison photos.I also made a close up of a part of a map to show how crappy is the fake and how nice is the original one (you can see the terrain features, states in US etc).I did contact with the MicroKingdom asking for authenticity and was lied to: "Our products with the listing is the same, no problem. (...) We are honest seller and trying our best to provide best services to our customer". On their defence I was provided with refund option but I couldn't be bothered for couple quid.

I think this map is getting a lot of unfair reviews regarding it apparently not scratching very well - the map comes with instructions saying to use a rubber, so if you choose to use a coin, prepare to ruin your map and don't blame the manufacturer. We have used a rubber to scratch off countries we have been to, and it looks great. We are big on travel and wanted something different for our living room; this is ideal. It comes in a nice tube so would be a great gift. It is exactly as shown in the photo. The paper quality is good. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because you can't seem to scratch off small islands e.g the caribbean islands. Not the biggest deal but as we are using this map tp mark off places we have been,it would have been nice. Not all of the countries are different colours e.g Spain and France are both dark green, but China and India are different colours so don't think it's just a case that if places are next to each other, they will be the same.

It was a toss up between this map and the standard Luckies of London map and I'm glad I went with this one. It's much nicer than it looks in the photos and great quality. It very beautiful and colourful. It's also a decent size.As well as the countries, it has a section at the bottom where you can scratch off lakes, mountains, continents etc. that you have visited. (When you scratch off the continents, it reveals a clock)It is quite hard to scratch off and can be a bit fiddly with the smaller countries (I managed to accidentally scratch off Luxembourg while I was doing Belgium) but with a steady hand I think it could be done very neatly. Also, it leaves a grey mark around the edges of the countries you have scratched off,but it isn't overly noticeable thanks to the bright colours of the countries, especially from a distance. It was nicely packed with a sheet of thin paper to stop it getting scratched. Great product.

I really liked the look of this map and provided the person It was intended for loves to travel, loves maps and loves posters this made the excellent Christmas gift. The packaging looked class to start with -- both the box and the tube within it look great which is a big plus. I like the colours on the map and the tube encompassing the map had a beautiful design too. The only (minor) complaint I had is there was slight damage to the box it came in however given the prompt delivery especially during the Christmas period this was a minor set back .Ultimately this map made a great gift and the person receiving it was over the moon. It's definitely a product i'd consider purchasing for myself after seeing it.

I'm pleased that I chose this version of the scratch map as I think that the combination of black background and gold looks great. It would make a good gift for someone who loves travelling (and it comes in a nice tube). To echo what a few others have said, I also found it difficult to scratch off the gold using a coin; the coin scraped off the very top layer of gold but left silver showing underneath. In the end I used a sharp scraper tool that came with a 'scraperfoil' set and that did the job very well, although I had to be careful as it did take off a bit too much in tiny areas, leaving specks of white showing instead of colour. It is the perfect size - not too small, but not massive either.

I looked all over the internet to find the best quality map I could, and eventually landed on this one.It arrived in well protected in a cardboard tube which made it look ideal for gifting as well, definitely keeping that in mind for future birthdays.Looks great on a wall and easy to scratch if you use the right tools (hint; dont use coins as they can leave marks if you scratch too hard, but this will happen to any scratch map! Use a rubber of any kind or be very gentle with the coin!)The map is often a talking point when I have guests over, and everyone seems impressed by the quality of the map as it is printed on thick heavy duty card.

This map is really cool, only downside is it can be a tad depressing when it put into perspective how little of the world myself and my partner have seen. I try to see it as an inspiration to travel more! Overall very good quality and some really nice extra features which most of these maps dont have. Some of the more negative reviews seem to say it doesnt scratch well, I wonder if the map gets damp if this would effect the scratching? Mine works perfectly well so if you are having issues try leaving it in the hot press for a couple of days before scratching again.

Bought as a present for my teenage nephew who loves geography (tick) and has travelled quite a bit with his family (tick) It was the only present he actually removed from its packaging on the day, and he immediately started scratching off places he's visited. The gold on black looks great and the bold colours that are revealed means it'll look brilliant on any wall. The tube packaging makes it an impressive looking presents.Only minor issue is that some countries (Singapore, San Marino) are nigh-on impossible to scratch without ruining the surround countries...

This is a beautiful product and would make a really thoughtful gift. the map itself is of a high quality, and would look mounted in a glass frame. I bought it as a gift, and the recipient was delighted. This map, in comparison to the basic one, looks much better quality and looks more grown up so is ideal for the adult globe-trotter.The product is quite large overall, and comes curled within a hard case so that it is protected. Amazon's packaging is also ideal as I received it good as new, but had been worried out about it shipping.

Love this map! It's a great size and looks amazing up on the wall! This product is great for travellers and aspiring travellers.I would suggest using a rubber to rub away the foil over the countries you have visited as a coin tends to scratch the map it's self and ruin the over all appearance of the map. However the idea behind the map is great and inspiring and great to look over! The joy you get from uncovering another country is almost as exciting as the trip itself and the final product is beautiful and great to reminisce over.

Beautiful scratch map - very well designed, with nice vibrant colours underneath the countries that you scratch off.Be wary though, don't scratch it off with something sharp or even a coin as you may make creases in the poster or even poke through it. Use a rubber to scratch off the foil. It's quite hard to accurately scratch off the foil when it comes to small countries such as in the western Europe region. It's a nice addition to the wall and helps me visually keep a track of where I've been and also where else I intend to go.

Bought on Tuesday, eta on Friday, actually arrived on Wed around 2-4 hours after I got an email saying out for delivery (caught me by surprise)Really good quality, I bought it because it has all the states of the US. Looking forward to scratching at it, Abit disappointed there wasn't any tools to come with it to scrape with but I think I can manage without that haha, I took advice from a previous review about a cheaper version of this product. The one I bought I can confirm is the better version.
