First thing to say, this is a great way to get your kid scribbling. Second thing to say, get this version, because the bigger the better. So, onto the why. First off, have you tried using crayons lately? They suck! They look fun and have lots of colours, but they barely leave a mark on paper unless you push really hard or half melt them. Fill the AquaDoodle pen with a little water and you get nice heavy, colourful lines with hardly any pressure. OK, you can’t control the colour, but that’s not a big deal. Want even thicker lines? Use the paint brush, with its anti-spill water pot, and your kid will think they’re painting a wall.So why the biggest version? Well, it’s more practical for two or three kids to use at once, but mainly because it takes longer to scribble over it all, either giving your children time to get the scribble out of their system or giving the first scribbles time to dry and be ready to be drawn over again when all the space has been used.Downsides? Well, for one, don’t be fooled by the marketing photo, the AquaDoodle isn’t the size of a small rug, more like the half of a dining room table. And as implied above, once it is all wet you can’t use it again until it has dried out. My son loves to use the brush to paint huge swathes over and over, does his best to make the anti-spill pot spill and has found that shaking the pen hard enough sends drops of water everywhere. Needless to say, when he’s done the ‘paper’ is soaking. But even so it only takes about 20 minutes to dry out, but that is enough time for him to wander off and start doing something else. But overall we’re very happy. Our boy took to it immediately and keeps coming back for more, often with friends. There’s little mess aside from some water spillage and everything is easy to prepare and put away. You'll need to take photos to keep as mementos, but with mobile phones so easily at hand that’s not a problem.Recommended - just get the big one.

We have always loved our Aquadoodle because it is perfect for creative, yet mess free, toddler fun. There is no effort needed to set it up, just add water and you are ready to play. Also, compared to other creative activities, minimal supervision is required. The Aquadoodle can keep the kids quiet for ages and when playtime is over clearing up is a doddle! The mat dries very quickly and there is literally no mess! The Aquadoodle Super Colour Deluxe (RRP £24.99) is certainly a step up from our previous version. The mat is larger, the colours more vibrant and there is a better selection of "tools". The larger mat is perfect for two children to share. The superior tools include a chunky, triangular pen; three stampers and stamping pad; and a brush and water pot. These are all designed to be easy and comfortable for little hands to grip. Aquadoodle is suitable for 18 months plus so it is fantastic for early mark making. The colourful plastic edge of the mat is covered with cheerful pictures and is great for resting the tools when they aren't in use.All you need to do to get started is add water to the pen, the pot and the pad and then the fun begins. When your children draw with the water on the mat, the mat magically changes colour and your children's creations can be seen. The stampers make clear defined images of a music note, a bee and a snail. The pen is great for drawing and writing and the brush creates broader marks. We would recommend it for anyone who wants to encourage creativity in their little ones yet avoid the mess!

This is such a great buy! Definitely one of the best Christmas presents that my 2.5 year old received. Her older cousins enjoyed playing with this with her too. This comes with a pad which you soak in water and three stamps which you press on the pad to get them wet and then stamp them on to the aquadoodle to create images (a bee, a snail and a musical note). There is also a paint brush and paint pot. You fill the paint pot with water and dip the brush in to the pot and then 'paint' on the aquadoodle. Additionally there is a pen which you fill with water and then 'write' on the aquadoodle.I would recommend purchasing a couple of extra aquadoodle pens. They come in handy if more than one child is going to be using the aquadoodle at any one time plus it's also nice to have the option of a thick or thin nibbed pen.My little girl LOVES this and the fact that this is completely mess-free as the pictures are created solely by water means it gets a massive thumbs up from me.Whilst I note that some people have complained that the product received looks different to that pictured, I do not agree. The first picture is a little deceptive as the angle of the picture suggests that the item is square, but the second picture clearly shows a rectangular shape mat and also it is evident from the measurements of the mat that the mat is rectangular and not square. So far I've experienced no problems with the mat whatsoever and it's had a lot of usage so it gets 5 out of 5 here!

Over the years I have had several versions of Aquadoodle, but this is certainly a ‘deluxe’ edition. It comes with a nice size mat – my little niece and nephew could both play happily with it at the same time without disturbing each other. As well as the mat, you get a pen, a brush, a stamp pad and three stamps. This means that two children can happily participate in the fun (or even more) and you can, of course, always purchase extra pens, etc. The pen itself is chunky and easy for small hands to grip, while the brush is nice and wide. When children draw on the mat, it reveals bright colours underneath. This means that even small children can have great fun revealing the colours, even if they are not able to copy the pictures around the side yet. My little nephew was mesmerised with the colours and loved drawing lines across the mat, in order to see the colours change.Of course, one of the best things about Aquadoodle is that there is no mess at all. Children can happily draw and scribble to their hearts content and then start all over again when the mat dries – which only takes a few minutes. As the pens are full of water, it doesn’t matter if they go over the sides or scribble on the floor. A lovely toy, easily portable (ideal to take on holidays) and so simple, but such a clever idea. This is sure to be a hit with all children aged 18m+.

As we already own the classic Aquadoodle so the children were really excited to try the Super Colour Deluxe in Neon and it certainly didn't disappoint. They loved the bright colourful neon waves and patterns that were revealed when they added the water. The set comes with a mat, an Aquadoodle pen,an Aquadoodle special paintbrush pen, 3 animal stampers & wet pad and a no-spill water container.I was very impressed with the generous size of the mat, both my children (aged 4&2) could easily play together and with the range of accessories that were included it's perfect for sharing. My children especially enjoyed the special paintbrush pen and the animal shaped stampers, they loved being able to create their own designs and watch them fade away as the water dried.I love that this set is a fantastic fun way for my children to learn and create with no mess and minimum clean up afterwards, also the set fits compactly back into the box afterwards for easy storage. Thanks to the no-spill water container that's included we can also take the Aquadoodle colour deluxe with us when we visit friends and relatives to keep the children occupied.I would definitely recommend this Aquadoodle set as a present or treat for the little ones in your life.

This is an extra large version of the classic aqua-doodle toy, with lovely bright wavy patterns revealed as it is drawn on with water. It is such a simple idea but is great for getting out when little ones want a messy activity but you don't actually want any mess! Even if you get a little water spillage it not more than a coup of kitchen towels can't wipe up in seconds! It is a great toy for developing pre-writing skills such as holding pens, taking pleasure in making marks and fine motor control. This set comes with a chunky pen, stampers, pad which can be used for handprints etc and a paint brush type tool and water pot, these really enhance the play value as just using the pen can get a bit boring after a while. It does show 2 children playing on the mat, which is a bit of a squish if they actually want some space to doodle on, but if you sit around the edge there is plenty of room for artistic creations! This is much better anyway because as commented by a previous reviewer sitting on the mat can lead to it marking with general toddler muck which is then hard to get off!The deluxe version isn't priced much more than the basic aqua doodle, and I do think it is worth spending the extra. Really happy with this toy!

Aquadoodle is a rectangular play mat that measures approx. 95cm x 75cm. There’s a colourful border around the edge but the majority of the mat is dedicated to a white drawing surface. When you apply water to this surface, a bold multi-coloured neon effect is activated allowing children to draw colourful pictures and patterns without making any real mess. There’s a selection of tools supplied, including a pen that has a handle that can be filled with water, a larger paintbrush (which has its own water well) and a selection of three stamps (and a little pad to wet them on). The best bit (apart from chasing your brother with a wet pen and trying to draw on his back)is that children can use pretty much anything (that they can make wet) to create a picture - from hands and feet to cars, trains and other toys. Depending on how wet you get the mat, it will dry and the drawing will start to disappear within about 20 to 30 minutes. If the mat is properly saturated (with the bigger brush) it can take over an hour to dry fully.Aquadoodle is suitable for children from 18 months. My 3 year old loves it and I like the fact that he can be creative without making a mess, whilst I’m doing something exciting like cooking the dinner.

My two-year-old was so excited when he saw this, and he loves drawing on it. The mat is a great size for playing on the floor, with enough space to get creative and draw a few pictures. The set includes the mat, a pen, three stampers and a brush to wipe over your picture when you're done, with a water well to keep it in. We found the pen holds enough water that you don't have to keep going back and fore to the sink, and the same goes for the well and the stampers' base. Our toddler loved being able to draw over the whole mat, and kneeling on it to get to the edges without the risk of getting messy as if we were painting, The stampers kept him entertained for a while too,and could be used to add a detailed touch to a bigger picture. The zig zag effect of the background is nice and bright, and saves having to have lots of different coloured pens which you could easily lose. We've been using it to help our toddler learn to write letters, as we can write them nice and big for him to copy without wasting lots of pieces of paper. We've also used it to lay our baby on and draw backgrounds to create fantasy scene pictures - baby flying through the sky, in a forest etc - which makes for fab photos.

I love the Aquadoodle range and first had their regular mat last year and more recently their travel mat. SO I was keen to try the other mats as variety is the spice of life, especially when entertaining little ones. The mat is lovely and big, 25% bigger in fact and as well made as the original. It's very bright and colorful which is great with a neon color reveal and gorgeous border pattern. What I like about this mat is that it comes with a chunky easy grip water pen which my lo handles better than the regular one. It also includes a number of accessories that work well and add some extra fun to the mix. There's a pad you moisten and then some stamps and a broad stroke brush. These work well. The mat does dry quick enough and if like me you have a couple not only do the different designs change it up a bit it also means one can be played on whilst the other dries out. That said they dry pretty quickly in the average central heated house.Despite the welcome inclusion of more accessories I recommend buying a pack of extra pens. Very worth it especially if friends come round.

Had one of these mats when my son was younger, 10 years on and I now have one for my daughter. Though now their are stamps and a painting brush. I would definitely recommend that little ones have clean hands when using it, or if on the floor no shoes/clean feet because the combination of general grub and water meant that the white cloth picked it up and made it look like it had had various liquids spilt on it. Tried to wash it off, without prevail. Its an excellent idea though. Avoids any pen/paint 'accidents' whilst you're not looking. It's unfortunate that it's not a toy that you can just pack away after use, it needs somewhere to dry, and with the use of the brush it is now wetter. They've made the brush holder difficult to spill. The bright multicoloured backing messes with my eyes/brain a little, I personally preferred the older one with a light blue background back when it was called 'aquadraw' however having the different colours seems to create a new game of drawing within different colours too. Overall I'm very pleased with it. Would make a good gift for others too.

The Aquadoodle is a great product - it allows kids to "paint" without any mess. The pen is simply filled with water and away you go. This come complete with the Aquadoodle mat, pen, 3 stampers (and bases) as well as a paintbrush and a water container to save you having to fill up the pen and so on all the time. It's a shame you only get the one pen with the kit, as you may need to buy more if two want to play or baby drinks the water from it - it took about 20 minutes for her to work out how to do that! Now while the mat is supposed to be 25% bigger, it's still pretty small - the picture shown must have really small children on it, as my 18 month old takes up most of the mat and she's not a big baby!Anyhow,it's really easy to use as you use the supplied tools to draw with - the addition of the rainbow colours is a great idea and leads to lots of trying to "paint" them in one colour and so on. Around the sides of the mat you have right illustrations to help with the imagination. It's a great product and will keep toddlers amused for hours.Recommended.

This version of aquadoodle is superior to previous versions where I felt the colours produced by the pens were a bit wishy washy. Not so this version which produces bright vivid neon-rainbow effects with each brush and pen stroke. I think that is the reason my grandchildren have had more fun with it. They seemed to get bored quickly with the previous aquadoodle mats they had and I think it was because the colours were so pale. This mat is 25% bigger than the previous one and allows 2 toddlers to play on it at once. However please note it is not as big as the photo might have you believe. The brush produces lovely broad lines and the pen is good for the more detailed bits of their 'artwork'.The 3 round stamps produce nice clear images.Be aware that you can't wipe the mat clean. You have to wait for earlier creations to dry and fade before embarking on a new piece of art.Recommended for hours of fun which packs away into a small storage space.PS: Buy more pens you'll need them, but also note that ordinary artist - type brushes dipped in water work too.

I have two little people that absolutely love Aquadoodle products, My son is just under 2 and my daughter is 4, both of them get enjoyment from these. This deluxe version comes with pens, dabbers, a water well, a pad and the mat itself. The mat is colourful and appealing to the eye. The basic premise of these is that your little human can draw for ages and NEVER ruin your walls! Because the whole thing works on water. The pens, you fill up with water, they can attach into the dabbers or use them on their own, little human draws on the mat with said pens and the mat changes colour according to where it gets wet. Each time it dries, it clears itself, lovely, no mess. The draw backs - you cannot wash this mat,it does get grubby over time (hence the replacement)You cannot heat the mat to make it dry quicker, thus mini humans are bored waiting for it to dry!Mini humans flick water at each other in more inventive ways!My biggest tip with these - buy more pens! The mat will outlive the pens by far!A must have for creative kids that like to draw!

This works really well. It's pretty close to 'real' drawing with felt tip and its dries (and therefore fades) and can be used again quite quickly. It's basically a rainbow colour sheet with a water sensitive white coating that, when wet, becomes transparent showing the colour underneath. It’s probably worth being clear that the user has no ability to control the colour that comes through as they draw – it’ll just show whatever colours lie beneath the coating. So, it’s colourful, but you aren’t exactly drawing and painting in colour. The extras in this deluxe version are the brush and stamps in addition to the water pen. You could use and clean bush and, while the stamps are pretty cool,I think a ‘deluxe’ version should have come with two pens.It doesn't last forever though - we've had a few aquadoodle sets over the years and have found that the surfaces starts to wear out after a year or two - I'm not sure if this is the coating wearing out or if it's the accretion of grease and dirt etc on top of that!

This is exactly what I was hoping for. It addressed each of the 'downsides' of the classic version: it comes with more than one writing/drawing implement and it is big enough for two kids to use at once! It has all the positives of the classic version (minus the alphabet border), but is better suited to family usage. The included pen is the same as in the classic version, but the added 'paintbrush' has been the most popular piece of this delightful no-mess drawing pad. The thick brush strokes are ideally suited for our two year-old who doesn't quite have the fine motor skills to use the pen to maximum effect. Our only complaint with this one is the mismatch in colors. The border is filled with primary colors, but the actual pattern of the drawing surface reveals neon colors that really clash with the border. It isn't particularly attractive to our adult eyes, but the kids don't seem to mind it at all.
