DOTS is a new product line from LEGO, aimed I think primarily at young girls, although they're marketed as uni-sex. Other sets in the line include photo and jewellery holders. What all the products in the range have in common is that rather than being typical LEGO sets (i.e. that you can build cars, spaceships, castles, etc. with) they allow you to build some sort of practical item that you can then decorate with patterns made from hundreds of small pieces, rather like a mosaic. In our case, we were offered the chance to build a Pineapple Themed Pencil Holder, courtesy of the Amazon Vine Program, which could then be decorated in whatever way we saw fit.The 'we' in this case were my son and daughter, aged nine and seven. (DOTS sets are recommended for Ages 6+). My son is an avid LEGO builder and my daughter likes to dabble now and again. Both took to the DOTS set immediately and had the pen holder built and decorated in no time. They even did it together, without arguing, which was a positive development.Since then however, they haven't gone back to redecorate it. They might have done had they had a desk for it to sit on, where it would have gained more of their attention, but we're still a couple of years off them having desks. Its obvious the designers of the DOTS line envisage the sets being constantly redecorated, because each one comes with a lidded, segmented tray in which to store the coloured tiles you use to make the patterns. I could easily see older girls (and boys) regularly updating the style of their pen or photo holders as the mood takes them, or using DOTS as a brief distraction from homework. My children just aren't there yet.Overall, the DOTS Pineapple Pencil Holder seemed a fun product that would probably go down well with pre-Teens. As with everything from LEGO, it works as advertised and is presented attractively and thoughtfully.

This kit is really like a couple kits in one. You get the stuff to make a pineapple pencil holder and a little watermelon trinket box. This was my daughters’ first experience with legos so I helped them with assembling the main parts, but for someone who is experienced with legos, it’s a very simple kit to put together. The instructions are thorough and detailed with plenty of pictures. The nice thing is that it gives you instructions on assembling the main parts but decorating is left entirely up to the builder. There are so many pieces to decorate with that the options are really endless. My daughters loved helping me decorate the outside of the pencil holder and the trinket box.The best thing about this kit is that it comes with a reusable tray for all the pieces. The tray has a lid and several sections so you can sort the pieces. As a mom who is always struggling to keep toys cleaned up, it’s awesome to have a toy that comes with a storage option. My girls absolutely loved making this. Taking it apart and making it again But now it's on their homework desk and they're able to keep everything organized. With the divided section. And the top is a added bonus that I love to prevent everything from falling out. Such a cute added practical useful bonus. My girls love everything Lego and was excited to play with this. The kit comes with 351 pieces. We love it's not the traditional type legos. It was very easy to assemble my 6 and 8 yr old had no problems building this independently. My girls like the pineapple but my favorite part is the watermelon wedge.i love anything that will get my kids away from electronics and this was perfect.Hours upon hours of fun. A cute way for imagination play. My girls love decorating it with the dots and I have even purchased some extra dots. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

This kit was very fun to receive initially because of the way it is packaged and presented. We liked the visual representation on the packaging because it showed us a different way to enhance our creativity with Lego building. We like the dots features because they allow for a unique way to build and customize your design. My six-year-old daughter enjoyed how the small dot pieces were able to be built into a fun shape and design on the side of the pineapple rectangular box shape. The fact that the end result is a container type of build is fun because it allows for pencils or crayons or flowers to be placed inside of the creative build. My only downside with this particular build is that the small pieces are tiny and can be challenging to take off once they are on the build. Who lives in a pineapple under the sea? Spongebob square pants of course! Well what I can say my youngest wants to be like spongebob and he wants to live in a pineapple, yep you heard right. He isn’t fussed about the sea part only the pineapple. After several conversations about how this is not possible I gave up explaining that you can’t live in a pineapple- or the fact we don’t ever have them in the house as I’m allergic. I was left with a traumatised child when I found this. Thank you Lego if you were a person I would kiss your face off! Instead of him living in a damn pineapple instead he can put in his little things and keep them safe. All hail Lego for the amazing Lego dots range.Thank you for saving my sanity

This is a pressie for a 6 year old girl. The set comes well presented with compartments for the different pieces.I have never seen anything like this before from Lego and i like the idea of making things that can be used (and not just played with). This makes a pen/pencil holder. The pieces that come with it are tiny so my granddaughter needed to make sure her little sister wasn’t around when she was making it. I presume the tiny pieces are what they refer to as “DOTS”.This is a lovely set - a bit pricey at £17.99 but then most Lego is expensive anyway. I look forward to seeing what else is bought out in this new “DOTS” series

You can never go wrong with Lego, and this is an unusual and quirky product from this amazing brandI've not seen anything quite like it before and this will make the perfect giftIt's a pineapple pen/pencil pot to keep on the desk and comes with over 300 decorations that create a unique and individual design for the pot.A great little set that comes complete with a handy sorting case, so hopefully none of those stray bits of Lego that lurk in corners and are so painful to tread on!As usual with Lego, this is top quality and will last for ever

Wasn't sure about this however since giving to my little girl age 7 i now love it!A new way to play with lego and something different. We got the pineapple and watermelon. The items are impressive once built and can keep changing your designs over and over. The little watermelon is a good little trinket and my little girl is currently keeping her paint brushes in the pineapple.Could be frustrating for very small hands or for anyone who struggles with coordination as the 'dots' are very small and could be quite difficult to get on and off.

My daughter is a LEGO fanatic and she absolutely loved building her own pencil holder. This kit comes with 351 pieces to build and personalize your pencil holder and paper clip holder, she puts her little erasers in the paper clip holder and this is where she keeps everything she needs to do homework with so she doesn’t lose anything. Once build these legos stay perfectly, no falling apart and the holders are so adorable. I recommend for any child over 6 who loves legos. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

I gave this to my granddaughter for her birthday. She loves it! The Lego Dots Pencil Holder was easy for her to put together. She designed it just how she wanted to. She changes it around frequently making funny shapes and pictures. It has created a lot of laughs and happiness in our house. It does hold together quite sturdy and the pieces stick nicely. 351 pcs is a lot to play with and it keeps her happily occupied switching it up. I will definitely buy more. I recieved the Pineapple Pencil Holder and it has 351 pieces to build the pencil holder, it came with picture illustrations to show you how to build it and you add add a lot of different colors that different in shapes and size or keep it simple and add just a little. It took me a little time to to put together but once I got the hang of it, it was easy. I love how it adds a pop of color to your surroundings and it was actually fun to put it together [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
