I had wanted this bin for a really long time but was hesitant because of the price. We were redecorating the kitchen so I used it as an excuse to finally buy it!Overall, this bin is great. I love that each section is like it’s own “bucket” and since I’ve had it, it’s made us a lot more conscious of what we’re recycling, putting in the bin and forces us to make use of the food caddy. The food caddy being hidden in the top of the bin is probably my favourite aspect of the bin.I like the fact that everything is combined into one space, we used to have a recycling bag and the bin we did have was just a cheap plastic push-top, so this is a lovely upgrade. The bin itself isn’t *that* sturdy.I’m not sure if our kitchen floor is uneven but we had to wedge some paper under the front right foot so that it wouldn’t wobble so much. There’s barely any weight to it and I think if it’d just had some weight added to the bottom of it to hold it still, it would’ve been perfect. The holes in the side of the bucket to stop bag overhang are a waste of time and a bizarre design. I had a look on the Joseph Joseph website to see how it was supposed to function, and literally no one on this planet has EVER put a bag in a bin that way. It wouldn’t stay up. It would’ve made more sense to have a little hook or something on the sides to hold the top of the bag down - not the end of the world because bags still tuck over as normal but I don’t understand the logic behind it.Lastly, the price. I bought this for around £130 in a lightning sale. It is absolutely not worth the full price and for the quality I would probably be willing to pay about £60 - £70 max for this - and that’s mainly for the brand name. It’s a lovely bin and I’m really happy we got it, but for the price I would’ve expected it to be a lot more solid.I would recommend this bin if you see it in a sale anywhere. I really do like it, it looks lovely and is very compact and neat, but you would be left wanting more if you had spent the full near-£200 on it.(One other thing is when it arrived, I got none of the extras that should have come with it - no care booklet or sample bags. I contacted amazon to see if they’d send them, they offered to have it returned but that was a bit overkill so I’ve just used regular bin liners. I can’t justify the cost of the brand ones.)

After months of umming and arring of whether I could bring myself to spend £150 on a bin, I ended up with a £100 Amazon credit which softened the blow so I went for it. I have a couple of other Joseph Joseph products in my kitchen which gave me the confidence in the quality. The product is packaged nicely and is relatively frustration free. It does not require any real assembly and can be "installed" in no time at all. It is immediately apparent that there is a high standard of quality present before you even open the box. There are a few bin bags supplied to get you started however I found a regular 50L refuse sack fits really well in the 'main' compartment, fitting tightly round the edge meaning you don't have to mess around with tucking the bag in at the top when replacing the inner bin. I do not tend to use a bag for the recycling part as for the most part it is only clean waste. The recycling section has a centre divider which can be handy and is also removable to make one large compartment.Overall the bin is very nice, and arguably worth the money for what it is although there are cheaper bins on the market that offer similar features. I haven't really any major gripes with the bin but if there's anything to note it's that:- The bin, being stainless brushed steel, is very nice to look at. HOWEVER, the top lid is extremely frustrating as it is a magnet for fingerprints. There's not really any way around this except to use a paper towel every time you close the lid. In my opinion it should have a small plastic trim or something on the lid where you can close it. I find myself constantly wiping down the lid.- A small point, but the food waste bin, as handy as it is, has an exposed side inside the general waste section so this can get a little grubby. However, I have not found this to be the case yet.

Update to review. Please be careful emptying the bottom bin. I have hurt my leg, ankle and foot with the bottom unit falling on my leg and painfully so. Because it is on whees and the bin lifts out the bottom becomes unstable and falls forward on your foot. I have the bruises! Empty bottom compartment carefully or the bin will bite you !It is too small. If you do not buy anything from Amazon, do not drink milk or squash or wine this might be okay. It gets full up very quickly. I have removed the compost bin to assist.Item smaller than expected. I now realise the height measurements given on line are those for when the lid is up. I would have spent more on a larger model. It would be very helpful if this was clearer ! Am debating whether to return it and buy a bigger model. But probably will not. Such a hassle. The bin itself is a nice thing. Sturdy. Smart. I purchased a separate food waste box and it fits very nicely in the top section. Will wait to see how quickly the different compartments fill up. The bin liners fit nicely. I didn't find them hard to put in. With the odour filter I saved the sticky pieces which help secure it in place and reused them after putting the filter in. Graphite colour nice. Looks easy to empty and easy keep clean. Lovely bin but so it should be for it's price. Plastic but strong and sturdy. Open mechanism smooth. Bottom opening basic but easy. I Nice design. I like the fact you have compartments. I like that it is square in shape. Wish I had the bigger one. Looks like it will last and look good for quite some time. My only concern might be whether the plastic could crack easily. But it is covered under a guarantee. Lot of hype for this bin. It is good. Using it will tell whether it is brilliant or not.

I am really pleased with this. I thought long and hard before buying this as it was so expensive. It has however meant I can keep all my rubbish in one place. It has cleared space on my draining board as I don't need to keep my food waste bin there and I now don't have separate bags and boxes holding various recycling items. The bin is sturdy and well made and is flexible in its use so you can use it as it suits you. I keep my normal waste in the large top section which holds a good amount. I also keep the food bin in the top section. It is at a good height for scraping food into from plates or chopping boards. You can't balance the the lid quite as easily when it is in the bin,it needs to go on end rather than sideways which is not quite as stable but still works. The bottom bin takes all my recycling except for the very largest cardboard boxes. It takes wine bottles easily and all the normal plastic cartons and normal household packaging. It is easy to clean. You'd do not need to use the Joseph Joseph bags, I use standard supermarket options. Sainsburys have a tie handle pedal bin bag with a wide top which fits as well as the Joseph Joseph bags, I haven't looked at other supermarket options as yet. I also use the standard compost bags which are a bit more fiddly to fit in place than the Joseph Jospeh one but not too bad. We are a two adult household and I find that I empty the bins twice a week, if you have more people in your house you may find you need to do this more often. Overall I am really pleased with this bin and glad that I was able to buy this with 20% off.

Just bought this bin and it is a really great product. Mine was delivered with a dent in the back though, seems to be a hazard of sending steel items through the postal system. Amazon refunded me some money on it, the dent is at the back and doesn't hinder the bin's operation at all, and I don't want to return an item and have it scrapped when it is perfectly usable as it is.The compartments are really well designed, the bin is well constructed in metal, the lid is metal and well made with a smooth opening action. I love all the individual compartments and I have never been so well organised. I bought the 60Ltr size, maybe could have even bought a smaller size, but this size fits well and goes really nicely in my kitchen.I have just steam cleaned my kitchen floor and its usually a chore having to move the 2 bins I had previously but this bin tipped forward onto the bottom drawer built in wheels which make it easily movable.Even my friends, husband, daughter and son-in-law think its a really great product.I can't believe I am writing a review about a rubbish bin, which just goes to show how well it is designed and it fits it's function perfectly! Its the kind of product you buy and didn't know you needed until you start using it and makes you appreciate the thought that went into its design. Well done the designers.

I love my bin. I’ve got an open plan living room/kitchen and it sits nicely at the side. I use regular bin liners because the JJ compatible are ridiculously expensive. I don’t think my market stall liners detract from the look of the bin. I do use the JJ deoderiser because they work really well. We eat a lot of fish and live in a relatively warm part of the UK, I don’t want smelly fishy bin aroma in my living room so I feel ok paying extra for something that works well. We’re a couple and the bin size works well for us. The recycling bin’s used mainly for packaging. We don’t drink much and keep our jars/bottles separately because there isn’t really enough space. The lid was damaged slightly with use and I’ve tried to get a replacement but there doesn’t seem to be anywhere to get spare parts. There should be because hubby’s always losing the partition from the recycling bin and it’s only a matter of time before it gets lost for ever. These bins are silly money, there’s no real justification for the price and I wouldn’t have bought one if I didn’t have an open plan living area. That said, they are a statement, they’re very well engineered and they do the job they’re designed to do so I’m happy with my purchase.

The most wonderful bin to exist!Previously I had a different recycling bin which compared to this was just awful, the Joseph Joseph one has twice the capacity for the standard rubbish which is the area you need more than anything else and even the lower drawer has more space than my previous bin too.Takes two weeks to fill up both the main and recycling compartments for two people, I even had to put the two small bags in from bins in my bedroom and bathroom just to fill up the main compartment. The food caddy is a fantastic idea, curently trialing it next to the sink rather than in the bin but that may change. The quality is outstanding and yes that is reflected in the price, the outer is metal and looks darker than the pictures but is still a light grey for the stone option. The plastic bins are a good durable plastic which are easy to take out, clean and put back in. I would not be without the official bin liners as they fit perfectly and if you were to use other brands I'm sure they'd be visbale which I had with my previous bin and this was something that irritated me greatly.Wel well worth the expense!

After a lot of research and crying over these insane prices for what ultimately is a posh rubbish bin... we decided to go with this one mainly because our area recycles in 5 separate bins and we needed as many compartments as possible to make life easier. It fits great with the furniture, it’s not too big, looks really good and it’s easy to clean, which is a biiig plus.We only use bags for the non recyclable(the biggest compartment) and for the food/compostable waste(caddy)Couldn’t find 30l bags to fit so we’re using the usual 50l, about 1 every week is more than enough for us. For the caddy we use compostable 4l bin liners and they’re big enough to have that extra to bind it and take it out.My only issue is with the closing of the bin.It springs when open, but then you really need to push hard to close it and it makes a rather loud noise, which compared to our previous soft close bin, was a bit of a deal breaker in the begging. We’re now grown accustomed to it, but if we could change something, that would be it.Overall we are happy with the purchase and do recommend it.

£110 for a bin... or around £170 at full price... It seemed a lot to me even at the sale price. But...You get quite a lot for your money. This isn't just cheap plastic or thin chrome-plated steel, it is well made. And it is pretty big. My purchase was driven by a need to separate recycling into lots of different bags and boxes for our local authority (having previously lived somewhere where all recycling went into a single wheely bin). There's only so much space we can dedicate in the kitchen for recycling, so this "Waste Totem Bin" seemed like a good fit.It fits in the space we had and lets us separate food, recycling and general waste easily. We've had it for 4-5 months now and I have to say it was worth the £110 I paid, but if I'd paid full price I'd have expected a few little design features to have been more fully formed. My tip if you don't want to pay Joseph Joseph prices for the liners - Tesco 50 litre drawstring swing bin liners fit the top section nicely.

'How do I love thee? Let me count the ways' is pretty much how I feel about the Totem. Nevermore will I be confronted with a broken pedal bin surrounded by all manner of recycling making one corner of my kitchen resemble a hoarder's paradise. The main compartment is large enough to only need emptying by my family of four twice a week with the recycling drawer at the bottom perhaps three times. The kitchen waste caddy is very handy for peelings destined for the compost heap. I've bought the purpose-made liners for the main compartments (the larger bags fit both top and bottom bins) and the caddy; they're not the cheapest liners but they are strong, a perfect fit and, as I've already said, the main bin does not need emptying that often so not too expensive overall (plus I reuse the liner in the recycling drawer as it doesn't get very dirty). I did hesitate before buying it as I've never spent so much on a bin but I'm so pleased that I just went for it. I love it!

This has revolutionised my recycling. The drawer at the bottom has a removable divider so you ar not restricted to having it one size. The drawe is on wheels that makes it very easy to pull our and remove for main bin area ifs far bigger than I thought and is agin easy to remove for cleaning. It has a good lip so holds bags really we’ll they don’t slip down into the bin. The little food containe is great for waste food. The charcoal filter is great for containing any nasty niffs. I am using the Joseph Joseph bin bags mainly because they fit perfectly but you don’t have too others will do the job I guess. The whole thing is really easy to clean and looks fantasticThe first one that arrived had a few dints in it.So I returned it a man collected it and the new one arrived within 24 hours. Great service from amazon

All tidy and no more 3 bags and a bin in my small kitchen. It is huge but so was the other. sits tidily below the end of the counter. Love that the food waste sits under the top lid in the frame and is always at arm height there or lifts out to sit counter top. It is expensive but in daily use and expect it to look good for ten years breaks down to pence a day. I use any old liners, they fit fine. I just changed the charcoal liner in my hob extractor and the universal carbon sheet I bought for that had a strip left over than has cut down to create 4 replacements when I need them. there are times to economise and times not. for me this has really tidied up the refuse and is so easy to use.my husband was disbelieving when I bought it but loves it. and it stays spotless with very little effort.. just indulge..

We bought this bin as our big Brabantia bin was dented and looking scruffy. The only negative to this bin is its height. We had planned to place it under out breakfast bar (where we had the 50l Brabantia) however its too tall. So it lives in the utility room, no big deal but be aware. We have found that by using the 40L bags we are actually using less space in the black dustbin and we are also recycling more due to the bottom drawer. The addition of the food bin is excellent. Our council do not offer this, however it saves space in the main section. However, with all the heat recently the compostable food bags have broken down a little faster than anticipated and we have a small maggot issue in our black bin.No fault attributed to this item though.

This is an excellent product, well designed and stays clean. It's well worth using the proper bin bags for the main body of the bin but for the little 4l wet tub, you can get away with using plastic bags. It's all easy to take apart to clean and it's very clever. For example when you are fitting the main bag into the big bit, there are vent holes in the side of the body of the bin so you don't end up with a vacumn/a bag that won't separate. It is a lot of money for a bin, but it's worth it. Do watch out for the divider in the recycling section, it can easily end up being thrown away.As for which size one to get, as a couple who cook each night,we change the bin once a week and this is the largest one there is.

Never thought i would be the type of person to review a bin, but this bin is worthy of a review! My first impressions were 'it looks like a filing cabinet and is definately too small'. I was wrong (maybe not about the filing cabinet look) but definately about the size. This bin has made us 'green'- we seperate our waste better and are recycling more than ever. It is easy to clean, sturdy and most importantly dog proof! Some people have commented that they wish the bottom compartment had rollers, i disagree. The fact that you can pull all the way out makes it easier to change and clean. Never going back. :)
