What an excellent well designed and sturdy food waste bin this is, and how I wish I'd paid the money and gotten this the first time! Our old bin always encouraged fruit flies (even though it's emptied every alternate day or sooner) I decided it would be worth investing in the food waste bin ...not only to match the rest of my Joseph Joseph items in the kitchen, but to hopefully stop the dreaded flies! Whilst Joseph Joseph products are expensive, I cannot fault them on the design, quality and construction. The bin accepts our local authority bags (which we have to use) perfectly, and with the top removed the bag is placed over the lip and the surplus is then pushed with a finger through a securing hole on the front of the lip...simple idea but it works. The lids surround then fits snugly over the lip concealing the bag edges completely. Within the lid is the area where the charcoal filter os placed. By depressing the two tabs (watch your finger nails here!) it pops off, simply drop in the charcoal mesh filter and clip the filter cover pack on. The lid stays raised up without dropping and the. larger 'mouth' means it's so much easier to drop peelings etc into the old without getting it on the outside (as my son does each and every time!). All in all, expensive it may be, but it's definitely worth it.....and already within one day the flies have lessened, so anticipate this will improve till the annoying lil'flies have ceased all together!

Really clever design, and pleasingly practical. Compostable bags (which ideally need to be bought separately, as shop bought bags aren’t the right shape) tuck in neatly and invisibly from outside around the internal compartment, the lid opens easily, the double shell system ensures that smells are contained and that the contents don’t overheat, and the carbon filter on the lid works very effectively. The only (and for me, sadly major) drawback is that the colour of the caddy illustrated in the item description - described rather vaguely as Stone - is very far from the near perfect white misleadingly shown in the various illustrions, and is much more of a muddy brown.See the picture taken from life on delivery against the illustrations in the item description (one included to show the difference). The vendor acknowledged this was a problem, but said that they were unable to do anything about it, as Amazon supplied the pictures, and they were unable to alter them. The caddy really didn’t fit colour-wise in our new kitchen, and we returned it for a refund. However, we had to pay for the return ourselves. Do make sure therefore that a much darker and browner stone shade than that illustrated is what you want before buying, or choose a different colour. Unfortunately, no white caddy is available in this design from this manufacturer.

When our council made recycling mandatory last year I looked at this and thought it was too expensive. We had failed at food recycling in previous years because it’s just grim isn’t it? Smelly boxes with bags that are ill fitting and then along come the flies. Not to mention the ugliness .... ours were Flimsy And brown with council branding. After much deliberation I bought one and I’m so happy! It looks sleeker and smarter in the kitchen and is well made. The filter at the top was easy to install. The set came with 1. I’m told they last about 8 weeks and cost about £6 for a pack of two.It didn’t come with any bags so I used our standard food waste bags from the council. They fit easily by using the designated hole at the back to tighten the fit (sounds more complicated than it is)I like the width of it- it is slightly wider than my council bin so scrapping food off plates is easier. No flies present and no smell and no bin sweat every time I open it.I am never disappointed with Joseph Joseph products and this one is one of my favs!

I'm using this a temporary way station for scraps destined for the hot composter. Paired with the compostable bags by the same manufacturer it's a great combo. The charcoal filter works very well and I haven't had to change it in two months. To help keep smells down even more I tear up and add waste packaging paper and cardboard, this has the added benefit of bringing lots of 'browns' to the composter. It lives on the kitchen counter top permanently and the off white colour matches nicely with the presses and at the same time contrasts the black granite worktop. It's easy to clean and wipe down.Only word of caution is that the hinges for the lid are as weak as they could get away with. They won't take any sort of pressure. So take it easy when popping off the lid or washing. All in all delighted with it!

Looks great on my kitchen table, much better than the previous bin I had. The size is great, doesn't take up too much space and forces me to take out the trash a bit more often which is probably for the best. The ventilation and odour filter seems to work quite well, I think I left the trash in there a bit too long once and there was no smell and limited build up of moisture. Unlike what others have experienced, my lid stays up by it self and the handle seems to be sturdy enough (been 2 months now). Will also add that the bags made for this bin are absolutely great. They have complete changed my experience of taking out the trash. They fit quite well though sometimes if you drop something in the bin with a bit of weight, you might need to readjust the bag.

It’s a nice looking little caddy, but the references to it being “intelligent” are a little over the top.Yes, there is a place for a filter, but it’s nothing special. The design is good, neutral colour ( I bought the “stone” one) it’s a nice size to keep it in the kitchen without it being in the way everywhere, the handle is strong, and regular size compostable kitchen waste bags work just fine.I bought it on a special offer, and that was the max I was going to pay for it; the normal price is a bit high in my opinion, but JJ stuff isn’t known for being cheap. All in all I’m happy with this caddy, but I’m not going to pay for replacement filter or special made bags for it; it’s a kitchen caddyand should not have a maintenance cost.

This bin fits perfectly underneath our sink (and the Simple Human door-hung bin we bought slots in very nicely over the top of it!). The bags hold a great deal of food waste before needing to be extracted and the filters do help with odour and don't need to be changed frequently. I have also washed my filters in antiseptic and boiling water which freshens them up because over time, they definitely absorb some unpleasant odours! The IW2 liners fit snugly in the caddy and you have to be careful to pull them over the top and secure them with the lid or they can slip out. It's certainly not the cheapest option for storing your food recycling, but it is the least ugly item I've found for doing so....

I have had one of these boxes a grey one since they first made them 3 or 4 years ago and came on here to buy another as the lid has broken.I have had no problems with it perhaps that is because I buy my bags boxed in rolls of 150.Perhaps it's because we always toss the bag and its contents every evening into the compost bin.Truth is we have never encountered fruit flies on it or in it but have on my fresh apples in the same kitchenAlso I have never noticed a smell from it but I change the filter once a month after its been in the dishwasher and always spray with a antiseptic each night after the bag is removed and dry with kitchen paper before replacing the bag.

Easy to clean, easy to empty, easy to use. This sturdy caddy is a good size but doesn't dominate the worksurface where I keep it. The lid flips up easily and the opening is wide enough so that you can scoop peelings in off of the chopping board. The bag tucks neatly into the hole in the rear of the caddy so that the bag top sits neatly under the lift off lid.To empty, you take off the top and the bag comes out easily without getting anything on your hands. It is clean to use and easy to empty. The filter in the lid means that this bin doesn't smell. I bought this in December and haven't yet changed the filter (it is mid February) and we use the caddy every day.

Had it two weeks now to replace the very poor one the council had supplied. The council one allowed the smell to escape almost immediately. There is no smell escape from this one and so far no insects. It blends in on the worktop and becomes unnoticeable after a few days. The same for using it, you actually look for it to put any waste food in to it.. The liners supplied with it are slightly stronger than the normal ones so no bursting when you take them out of the bin. It is a lot more expensive than others but works better than others. Its good quality and looks ok in your kitchen. I would replace with the same if I needed to so that says it all.

Honestly I did wonder if it would be worth the extra money. I mean how complicated can a food waste bin possibly be right? Wrong! This thing is actually a thing of beauty on our worktop!! It is really well designed my husband and kids don't get food all over it because the opening is actually easy to use and the right shape and size. I buy the specially made bags. The flies are virtually zero now. I literally couldn't be happier with my purchase. Now I am on the look out for more products by this company because this is a classy, well designed, high quality product on every level. Super super happy with my purchase. I recommend to everyone.

This waste caddy has made a big difference to our food waste. We had previously just used a simple round bin with no lid, but in summer it would attract fruit flies no end even though we empty it every couple days. This clever bin obviously has a lid and prevents that, but also what I appreciate is how easy it is to put on a bag (we use the Waitrose compostable clear vegetable bags you get - and are PERFECT size!), and the anti-odour really works too. Its lets air in, but nothing else. We still empty the bin every 2 days so never really smells and finally - its quite a stylish design so looks good too.

I had one in my kitchen for veggie scraps, and it's always performed brilliantly. When my baby arrived in August I was gifted a proper nappy bin. It was cumbersome, and I was fed up fitting the fiddly liners and filters etc. So I borrowed this out of my kitchen and it's hands down the best nappy bin ever. No odour at all, it's fills quick but that's good as it makes me empty the thing. Super chuffed I have three of them now, one in the nursery, one in the lounge by the play pen and the kitchen one has be restored. It's nice and compact, looks attractive, what more could you want!

This is a lovely bin if you're into this sort of thing! It's easy to clean, blends in on the kitchen counter and fits standard biodegradable bags (there is a little finger whole which you push the bag into to pull it tight and then when you fit the lid you don't see the bag). The charcoal filter seems to work well and I've noticed a reduction in fruit flies in less than a week; I'm expecting them to be gone entirely soon. Also noticed a big difference in terms of condensation and the bags make it to the outdoor food waste bin without splitting en route! Very happy.

Had a ratty old compost bin from my council and spotted this so treated myself! It looks great, as does all the J+J range. I like that little fruit flies etc can’t get in as there are no holes in the bin. There is a small filter at the top. It’s smaller than I thought but that’s been good as it means I don’t have loads of old food hanging around the kitchen as I have change more regularly. Would highly recommend. I bought the stone colour as my worktops are light. My sister has dark one which looks brill on her black granite top.
