We bought this as I preferred to have a neat set than lots of individual instruments floating about with duplicates. It is very well made and has been wonderful. My daughter has been able to use the maracas and bells from 5/6 months and now that she is 8 months old she is enjoying the chimes and triangle. They do get rather a beating but are holding out very well. She will need to be much stronger to use the castanets and much more dextrous to use the drum, cymbal and guiro but as this is advertised for children 3 yrs + it was to be expected. The xylophone is dreadful though. I did read the previous reviews mentioning this before I bought it but thought that they were perhaps made by musicians who really couldn't tolerate the sound of children's toys. The complaints are almost understated though. The notes do not progress upwards from C to C but go up and down (F is lower than E and sounds almost identical to D) and only one or two come even close to the correct note when played on a keyboard. I will buy/find a separate one as I can't stand the sound of it.On the whole though this has been great value and would have received 5 stars if they had made the xylophone well.

First, a caveat: this isn't a fully-fledged musical instrument, and shouldn't be treated as such. Let the buyer beware.Nonetheless, it's a bright, sturdy, fun toy that will please most kids immensely. Our one-year-old has loved it since she first clapped eyes on it; it's a great way of keeping her occupied and stimulated on her own, or for interactive play. The only down side, as hinted in the opening gambit, is that the xylophone isn't in a scale as such - the first and second notes are the same(F), as are the third and fourth (F#), and sixth and seventh (B) - but it's all still chromatic and doesn't jar on the ear too much,so if you can forego the urge to write a masterpiece on it you'll be getting a reliably made toy with many separate elements that will fascinate and amuse.(For any musos who are wondering, the remaining notes on ours are a fifth key of A and an eighth key of C#, so your ascending 'scale' is F, F, F#, F#, A, B, B, C#.)Everyone who sees it asks about it, so it's a universal hit.

I purchased the Melody Mix Music Stand for my grandgaughter and we are delighted with it. As she is a baby she is enjoying her play with supervision. It is versatile, with the xzlophone on one side and the drum on the other, colourful and well constructed.I am particularly careful when choosing play items as I have a 20 year history of child care with the under 5's. My only criticism would be that the upright parts of the stand are not fixed in place and would benefit from a wooden nut to secure them during use.It is an ideal music centre for the home, nursery or pre-school environment.

I know the recommended ages is 3+ but I had seen a friend with this and knew there was no small parts and I was jealous! I have to my daughter for her 1st birthday as we experience all of the instruments at a baby class and she loves them. She is obviously only hitting at things randomly but it is a favourite already. It is a good quality wooden toy.Only 4 stars because whilst I love it, the price is unnecessarily high, plus also when you pick it up the drum sticks fall through the slots (slightly annoying and potential to get lost).A great gift though.

Got this for my 6 month old for Christmas, a little early but she started playing with it as soon as she could sit reliably. Saw at a friends house and it was played with by kids up to 5 yrs old. Was struggling to find toys/presents that she didn't already have from her older sister and this is amazing. Really robust, sounds pleasant (the xylophone is actually in tune!) and takes a battering but still looks good. It gets SO much use in our house and a lot of variety in one piece of kit.

This set is very popular with both our 1 year old and with her friends up to age 3. The parts seem very well made and durable - a really nice colourful set with a natural feel because of the wood. The instruments are varied and not too loud (but loud enough). The only down side for those with a musician's ear is that the keyboard is not a true scale. There are chimes with the same pitch and the top 'note' is lower than the one before it. Doubtful the child will notice of course!

Brought this for my 14month old twins, in January and they LOVE IT! It's an excellent size for the two of them and there are enough toys to keep them occupied. The only downside for my point of view is that the red rattle came apart after a couple of months and yes a couple of beads were eaten, but to no detramental effect. I do check their toys every so often for loose parts etc and on the orange rattle the handle is now coming loose. But glue will fix them both.

We love this toy! I bought it for my sons 2nd birthday which he enjoyed - but my daughter came along and at 6 months (it does say suitable from 3yrs but there aren't any small objects) and this is her firm favourite. She plays with this daily. When our friends come over they all comment on how fab this product is. It has everything you need, packed away neat and tidily so for once, a toy where everything has its place. A true must have.

I bought this for a 20 month old girl who is very much into music. She loved it much more than I could have hoped for. Not only was it pretty good quality, it is colourful, good sized and inviting and with enough rattles, beaters and other piece for all the family to join in! Really simple to put together and change from drum to xylophone (take out the instruments and flip it over). Theres a good range of instruments to play with.

It's marketed for 36 months plus but is the firm favourite toy of my 11 month old. He happily plays with the different instruments for hours on end. Xylophone is out of tune but he loves banging on it just the same. The set is colourful, sturdy and encourages exploring of sounds (he uses the drum sticks to hit all sorts of things round the house!). I can see this lasting him for years. Best toy I've bought for him so far.

This is a versatile and durable product. It is great fun and educational. The variety of percussion instruments is superb. My grand daughter was given it for her 1st birthday and plays with it for long periods. It will be suitable for her for at least a further year-probably longer. There may be small parts that could come adrift so it does need regular checking and supervision.Excellent value for money.

We bought this toy when my daughter was one, now she is 3 1/2 and still plays with it. Her little 10 month old brother also loves it. They have both really enjoyed chewing the piece of fabric that the triangle hangs on, which I would say is the only thing I would change about this otherwise extremely durable product. My daughter has stood on the drum many a time and it is still intact.

Bought this for my grand daughter who is 15 months old. She loves playing with this toy it helps with hands and eye coordination also lots of noise , kids love making noise gets them noticed . It is a sturdy piece of kit and she really gives it some stick if that young lady is happy with it which she seems to be then I am very happy

Bought this set following positive reviews for my daughter's First Birthday - she loves it and I'm sure she will get plenty of use out of it in years to come. A fantastic selection of instruments, displayed in an interesting way, robust and appealing. We have many envious friends! Would make a fab present from 8 months plus.

Bought it for out grandson's first birthday, he loved it from the moment it was assembled. The shakers and drum sticks are easy to handle and he and his 2 year old brother really enjoyed themselves. The drum and xylophone sides are reversible so it is possible to hide the drum (for a while)
