I don't understand why, but it won't tune into any of the four HDMI sockets on my tv. I contacted Freeview and Humax, and it seems that I am doing it correctly but it just won't link up. Humax said it seemed like the problem was with my TV which has never been linked to anything by HD cables before. I finally remembered the red, yellow and white cables lurking in the cupboard and they worked. I wasn't expecting much considering, but it tuned in straight away I've got a lovely picture and sound, and after the initial dissappointment I'm pleased. I just wish I knew why my tv and the box won't tune in to each other via HDMI, but the picture is a lovely quality anyway, and as it isn't so dazzling,no more headaches as I get watching on the HD tv. I'll also get to record many more hours of tv. Now to buy some wi fi extenders. One more point, this is black shiny plastic, a real dust catcher, all my other Freeview boxes are made of metal (stronger) and easy to wipe clean, this one needs dusting every day.

This Freeview recorder works well. Its hand control is different from previous Humax recorders but all the functionality is there but using different buttons in some cases. It does record four programs simultaneously with only three tuners. This works because Humax recorders can record two programs that are on the same multiplexer and then one on each of the other tuners. To ensure this always works, this box only allows three multiplexers to be saved. The trade off is that you do not get all the available channels but I seem to have all the important ones and I have not missed any that I have watched in the past. All the good media functions of the excellent HDR FOX-T2 are here plus watching live TV on ones phone, tablet, PC etc on my local LAN. Other local media devices can also play recorded programmesNo problems found when using this device.Read full review...

This is the second one purchased within three years previously had a 4000T refurbished which lasted two years then had to replace the hard drive it then lasted about another two weeks before dying. The 5000T seems improved slightly on the interface, these units do run on the hot side they have a mechanical hard drive which i think adds to the heat build up, i would have liked to have seen a solid state drive in them which i think would make them last longer and not heat up as much. It would add cost to the unit though which is why they do not fit them. There is a warranty of 12 months, but if you register the unit with Humax you get two years warranty in total. In my opinion i think these units are the best you can buy for the money and very easy to set up and use. As i say there are some improvements that can be made.Read full review...

Bought unit as factory refurbished from Tesco outlet at £150 + £2 carriage. All the accessories were present without the plethora of plastic bags associated with brand new items. Set-up was very easy and the three freeview tuners allow overlapping programmes to be recorded. I particularly wanted this feature as well as subtitles to be recorded. This aspect works fine. One day after purchase the unit forgot that it had recorded any programmes! A quick look on forums suggested that switching off at the mains would re-boot it or that recording anything would reboot the index. I tried the second option and it worked. So far so good. Only gripe is the extreme slowness of response to instructions from the remote.Otherwise good. Playback is good with up to 16x speed through adverts!

Being able to record four programmes simultaneously is a great improvement over my previous recorder which could only record two. The remote control has a very nice feel to it with a positive “click” when pressing the buttons, again a great improvement over my previous one where button pressing was a bit “hit and miss” especially when the machine was busy.It is unfortunate that the machine does not have front panel lights to show when it is actively on and when in stand-by as it appears to have three levels (asleep, transitioning and on) of activity and it is difficult to tell what state it is in at any time.

I have used Humax boxes for many years and this one is a great improvement on my previous boxes. It has a host of features which are easy to use and understand.Having a greater number of channels you can record at the same time is an added bonus along with the 1tb hard drive. Also, it easily connects to your wi-fi giving greater choice to channels available. A bit pricey but using the 12 months interest free credit which I will pay off within the twelve months makes it much more affordable.

Recently had to replace my PVR. The Humax 5000T PVR looked the best, so I purchased it.Was easy to set up, connecting the my Wi-Fi without problem. The programme guides easy to use although there is slight lag from pressing the button on the remote before getting a response. At first this was annoying, but I soon got used to it.The inclusion of catch-up channels is a plus point, but currently the My5 player doesn't work, but hopefully this will get fixed by Channel 5 and Humax in an update.

In comparison to my previous PVR-9300T this one gives me the benefit of all the other channels thanks to internet connection but what I don't like is there is no clock on the front and no showing of channel you are on, also the on screen guide is not very clear to read and I can hardly see it, then there is skipping forward on the guide to the next day I still don't know how to do it the above PVR was easy. So all in all it would be nice to have the best features of both PVRs put into one one.

Have had this for over a week now and very happy with it. Found this fairly easy to set up if follow the instructions. Enjoy that I can record 4 programmes at same time as watching one love it. Like other reviewers it is hard to tell if machine is on as light indicator is at the bottom of it and if not above eye level then you cannot tell if on or off. Handset easy to use could have been made a little bit smaller as bigger than my tv remote... Overall I would definitely recommend this product.

I bought this Humax FVP5000/500 mainly for the remote recording feature on an iPad or phone while out and about, unfortunately this box does not do that, it will let u record from a phone or ipad but u must be on your home network ie NOT on 3g or 4g which kinda defeats the purpose of remote recording as if u must be at home to get it to work you might as well put the tv and box on and set recordings direct... If this is something u don’t want I’m sure this box would be fine for everything else

The unit originally would not record due to software incompatibility, after several discussions with Humax they admitted that the unit didn’t have the software compatible with the hardware in the latest production units.... & was not yet available for the auto update...after some time they agreed to send me a USB update to install, this after initially suggesting that I should return it to the retailer... to exchange it for another non compatible unit....not the best suggestion.! Update is OK

This is an excellent Freeview set top box , but read on ! Many reviewers have commented on its habit of 'freezing' the picture . This happened to me but is caused by the fact that this box has 3 hard drive recorders and requires a very specific transmitter signal . I was about to return it when I was advised to buy a ' variable attenuator ' . I got one on-line for a fiver , added it to the aerial connection and , bingo , perfect reception every channel ! Once set needs no further adjusting .

This is a well reviewed box let down by a couple of niggles. Volume control works the built in Humax volume not the tv volume - which I find a pain and means I still need the tv remote just for volume or buy a all in one remote. Tv epg should be quicker. Bit slow to change channels too and had to change the recording padding to manual as already had recording stopped before end of programme Don’t understand why they don’t just put a quicker processor in there to improve things. Ok overall

Exceedingly easy to set up, brilliant EPG that is fast and gives as much detail as required to find out what a programme is about. Recordings are very easy to set up, including a series link for continuous episodes. Very easy to skip adverts with your own personal choice of how many minutes you skip with each press of a button. Recordings are accessed through their own button on the remote and you can choose which date order you want to view programmes. Remote is well laid out and easy.

Purchased to replace an old Sony which was very good but it got Dementia in its old age ,read all the reviews thought it sounded like the dogs doodahs,It has a lot of features but not over impressed with range of sound adjustment I have to put it on Max &adjust the sound with TV remote to get it high enough, the Manual is the WORST I have ever seen,if you are not a bit tech savvy & dont have younger kids or relatives who seem to know instinctively which button to press! I would think twice
