First the positives - this water bottle is thick and sturdy. It holds cold in fairly well and it filters the water to improve taste and safety! When the lid is on, it doesn't leak. The filter works well and twists out easily to replace it. Filter removes and allows you to completely and fully clean the water bottle and the drinking spout. No tricky straws to clean. The inner spout helps young kids drink without pouring it down their face and chests. The cute badges they can put under the clear plastic cover on top of the blue lid are cute and my daughter loves switching them out. They allow the bottles to be personalized and keep the entire thing gender neutral. No pink or blue bottles required, just let your son or daughter put the animal face they prefer under it.The negatives - If the lid is off, it can leak out of the drinking spout. It does not hold much water, especially with the filter in place. Untwisting the top portion of the bottle to fill it can be difficult when you've tightened it well. There is no fill line, so I often have water spilling out as I replace the filter and top portion of the bottle, even though I try to stay enough below the edge to prevent that. With the filter in place, it's difficult to add ice to the water bottle, as my daughter prefers. If you remove the filter, it's a completely free-flowing bottle through the drinking spout. My 7 year old daughter can't fill it herself. She can't twist it open, and if I open it and send her to fill it, she'll make an even bigger mess than I do when she puts the top back on the bottle. This is great for use away from home, when you're going to be re-filling it at water fountains with varying tastes and no access to ice anyway. For home use, I prefer something which lets me add ice and is easier to fill. However, my 7 year old daughter loves it and wants to use it all the time, so she's using it. I think the volume it holds is better suited for her 4 year old brother, but she's claimed it.

This is an intense water bottle. This is our first Lifestraw water bottle and I was not prepared for how purified this would make the water bottle for my children. I am very impressed with the duo filters and how quickly the water can be drunk from the filters and bottle. Upon opening the bottle and reading the instructions I learned just how intense the water filtration is.Prior to using for the first time, you need to clean out the bottle and rinse the filters. This was very easy to do and did not require any long soaking of the filter. The one step that I thought was a bit annoying was blowing through the mouth piece at the end for drying the filter. This resulted in water shooting out of the filter all over myself and the sink. Its only water so no harm no foul but others should know that its not just a wash with warm soapy water and set to dry type of bottle. The water tasted fresh and clean while drinking.First of all, we don't go anywhere these days without a water bottle for everyone. What sets this bottle above the rest is its double filtration system. Even if you start out at home with filtered water, you don't know the water quality when you are on the go, and this bottle's double filtration system is an added layer of security to the quality of the drinking water.Getting water out of the bottle was a bit more difficult for our 2 year old than for our 4 and 6 year olds. You have to apply more suction than a regular straw, so our youngest grandchild kept thinking the bottle was broken. After a few times using this, he got the hang of using more suction. Bottle includes fun little paper discs that your child can change out to mark bottle as their own. Not necessary for water bottle to work but a fun little twist to make it personalized.Overall, this is a very nice water bottle, however, the added peace of mind of the double water filtration is what sets it out above the rest of our water bottles.

Yes, it's gross, but admit it, the survivalist in you is dying to know: can I use this to drink my own urine if I'm stranded in the desert? The answer is no! mostly because this filter doesn't remove salt. Ergo, it cannot be used to drink ocean water, either. What this can do is clean lake and river water for you if you're in the wilderness, or clean tap water if you're in another country. I used it to drink water from my local river, and I can testify that it tastes just fine and doesn't make me sick. Same for my kids. It's small enough that the kids can carry it themselves. And easy enough to suck on that the kids could do it without comment.About those filters...after filling this bottle 333 times you're going to need a new carbon filter. And every third carbon filter your going to need a new microbiological filter, too. If you do the math*, that works out to fourteen cents/gallon in filter cost. If you want your kid to drink 8 cups per day, that would come to seven cents/day. That assumes your filters last as long as advertised, which is unlikely if you're drinking muddy river water, but probable if you're just using it to filter tap water.TLDR; ongoing filter expense is 7 cents/day if you drank all water out of this bottle.* figures----------1 gallon = 128 oz.26 gallons = 3328 ounces = 1 carbon capsule at $7.50/2-pack.i.e. a carbon capsule = 0.0977 cents/oz.1000 gallons = 128000 oz = 1 microbiological filter = $16.99 each.i.e. microbiological filter = 0.0133 cents/oz.total = (0.0133+0.0977) = 0.111 cents/oz = 14 cents/gallon.commonly recommended water intake is 8 cups/day = 1/2 gallon = 7 cents/day.FYI: the cost of a typical bottle water at <big box store> is 256 cents/gallon, or $1.28/day.

In general I love Lifestraw products. And making this a bottle rather than just a straw is a vast improvement as you do not have to lay in the dirt to drink, and can take water with you. They mean I do not have to carry gallons of water when hiking for emergencies. And in an emergency you will not care about the issue that this version has, a negative change in how the water tastes initially . My family described it as plasticy or chemical. It took six fills and emptying (and you pretty much have to suck the water out, you cannot just drain it through the filter) to reduce this taste.Even a small child can generate enough suction to drink from the bottle. This bottle certainly has its uses, and again, in an emergency one may not care about the plastic taste, but if you hand this to a kid they may have an aversion to using it after the taste. I will note that I also have the version which is adaptable for any size bottle, and it did NOT have the taste the first time it was used. I am not sure if this is a manufacturing issue or a quality control issue. I am dinging it a star for this, because it does not seem to be always an issue.

We got these to fly to California to take the kids to Disneyland. They were perfect for travelling. You can dump the water out before going through the TSA checkpoints, then refill them at any water fountain or sink after the checkpoint without worrying if the kids can safely drink the water. I have no idea how much money they saved us in drinking water at Disneyland, but since we just refilled them with tap water throughout the day, I can tell you that it adds up quickly. They bottles are small enough for small hands to control and not heavy enough to be an issue. My only gripe is that the large filtration system takes up a good percentage of the interior volume which means that refills have to be frequent because there is less water in there than it seems like there should be.Thankfully, since you can refill them anywhere, it was easy. We liked them so much that my wife got the full size version and I bought the Nalgene converting kit from the same company. Highly recommended.

I live in earthquake country, and like to go hiking/camping. I have the Lifestraw Family filter in my emergency kit, but that's not something to bring around. This LifeStraw Play is designed for more active use and sized for kids. It's not going to hold a lot of water for an adult, but is perfect to bring along for my 5 year old. Takes a bit more effort, but offers significantly more protection for questionable water sources. For emergencies, this is a great resource to have to offer a more individual use. We have runoff canals and ponds within a short walking distance, but they're full of all sorts of stuff I'd not want to drink directly. And while that's great, it hopefully won't be an issue, that's why having this look like a regular water bottle makes it much more useful in hiking or adventures. Two stage filters are replaceable, though I'm having some difficulty finding replacements at this time as not even the lifestraw website specifies.

We got the bottle for when we traveled in the Philippines. It was easy to assemble. At first, the water was hard to suck from the straw but after a while, it became easier. I felt safe and confident to let my son drink water using this bottle while in another country. He didn't get sick while using this bottle during our trip. In the beginning, you can taste the carbon but after using it for a while the water tastes even better drinking from the bottle. I added a little hook with the cap so it's easy to hang it from our backpack. Definitely using it again especially now that they're banning water bottles this is the best alternative. We are planning to bring it to big parks like Disneyland and universal studios where you can just get water from the water fountain instead of buying water bottles there.

We have purchased the lifestraws before. Compared to them, this seems even easier for the kids. It has a nice size bottle, an easy way to fill the bottle and keep the dirty water separate from the clean---the cap will stay on the drinking portion while the bottom unscrews to fill up. Cute little cap design that has several discs to choose from for the kids. The instructions are clear and easy to use. It is a good size for a child to fill, hold and drink. Convenient. Although I could not find anywhere on the product or packaging where it was made the website stated Made in South Korea.

Bought this for an overseas trip for myself. The size was perfect so I didn't have to carry a bigger water bottle. I like the connected cap so I didn't have to worry about loosing, especially about dropping it. The variety of pogs for the cap were super cute and a great quality (which I was surprised about). Twisting the top half from bottom half was a bit hard and I couldn't see a child having the strength to do so themselves. The suction was super hard even after priming the filter. The taste was fine and didn't bother me.

This LifeStraw Play Kids Water Filter Bottle with 2-Stage Integrated Filter Straw is a great addition to our camping and emergency preps! We now have two grandsons that will be joining us on family outings, so we have to plan for their safety as we do for the adults. We own quite a few LifeStraw products and find them to be good quality and work as expected. The water bottle is easy to use and will not be concerning if it has to be used. I like the replaceable filter as well!Highly Recommended!CFH

Works just like any other LifeStraw, but the cartridge is a bit shorter than the standard ones. The bottle itself is super durable and as high quality as any other premium brand. To clean, the cartridge pops out easily and the rest can be put in a dishwasher. Of course, as with any of these filters, they can be a bit difficult to suck water through, especially for kids, but it's worth the effort in a pinch. This is a great small item to throw in an emergency bag or take along "just in case".

We have the adult version of this and it works perfectly, so I was excited to try the LifeStraw Play Kids’ Water Bottle. It’s the perfect size for little hands. It’s great for camping and hiking trips. I trust the brand name enough to let my kids drink creek water through it. This is small, so it’s necessry to have a larger size as back up. Overall it’s a pricey, but great purchase. If you have any young campers on your gift list, then this is a worthy present.

For the money, this is a very adequate filter bottle. As some have mentioned, it does require effort to draw from the straw, and it does have an air intake that provides an entertaining whistle with each draw. This doesn't take the place of a passive filter for having water on hand - especially for things like preparing baby formula or cooking with - but for a hand-held, smaller filter bottle, this is a great choice for survival or recreational gear.

This water bottle is fantastic. It is well built, looks great, and has a life straw inside. It is nice to know that if my son fills up at the water fountain, he is filtering out all the germs and crud that lives on an elementary school fountain. Water flow is impressive, and he has no problem drawing a drink from the bottle. The spout is a nice soft silicone, and the entire thing is very easy to disassemble for cleaning.

Love this kids filter bottle- my 5 year old nephew uses it without problems and is asking great questions about water. Flow rate doesn't seem to be an issue and he loves the designs that he can change on the top lid- he even draws his own. His mother doesn't have to worry about the quality of water at school anymore.
