This was a very early post of my first impressions to help any prospective buyers. I have updated it as I used the laptop! To start with, it looks very nice, and seems well put together. The software load seems quite clean - I did uninstall McAfee and a couple of other HP apps that I won't use, and I cleared out the games that were pinned to the start menu, but there isn't too much junk installed. From there it was a reasonably simple process to get the computer configured to my liking. The keyboard is nice to type on and the touchscreen seems nicely responsive. The trackpad seems pretty good so far, very wide, which I'm fine with, but I am having an issue where the mouse would move to the right and make phantom clicks, even when I'm not touching the computer. After a restart that stopped once, but in the midst of typing this it's done it a number of time, which is annoying. I'll see if this continues, but this is where it's losing a star right now.Otherwise, everything seems to tick along quite nicely. The screen looks very nice, and sound from the speakers seems reasonable. The Windows Hello login with the IR camera works quickly and better than I expected. One thing to note is that the laptop is a little heavy. Not awfully so, but too heavy to use it as a tablet one-handed. I bought this because I wanted a larger screen to use with Excel and PowerPoint. If weight is an issue you may want to choose the 13" model. I wouldn't call the weight a negative because this is obviously a larger laptop, but it is something to be aware of.Update:I returned the 15" version due to the faulty screen. HP wanted to fix it, but I didn't want to send it off again, as they hadn't fixed it the first time I sent it off to them.I bought a 13.3" version and the two are very similar. Obviously the 13" version has fewer ports and a 1080p screen, if they're important to you, but I have to say I find the 13" version preferable.1. The 13" version is frankly a much better size and weight, the 15" was too cumbersome.2. The battery life on the 13" is apparently better, but I can't comment either way just yet.3. The 15" is too big to fit in many bags, even if it is small for a 15" laptop. So I've gone with the 13" version, but I should note I'm replacing my first one because the space bar won't press. The QA processes at HP either need some work or I'm very unlucky. I would say buy from Amazon, rather than HP, because if something's wrong they replace it, whereas HP try and fix it, which is all well and good, but they didn't fix my problem.Hopefully this has been helpful. Let me know if you have any questions.

Excellent modern laptop that doubles as a tablet, but considering it's price and build quality it lacks a few things - the screen should auto dim at night but although Windows 10 can do this HP didn't fit a sensor to make this work; alternatively an up/down brightness rocker switch should have been fitted. Thirdly the rubber feet are quite slippery and if used on an angle the laptop slides down (previous laptop never did this so I'm not asking for a lot). The large mouse pad is not ideal either as you have a tendency to hit it with my right palm and right click is a lot further right than my brain is expecting but I guess that's something I will have to work on - heck I use an external mouse most of the time anyway.Overall I'm writing about minor niggles because it is a rapid machine that does everything you'd expect it to do without you really noticing. Boot up time is four seconds before Windows Hello face recognition looks for you, and then another 3 seconds before Windows 10 is ready to go. Shutdown takes around four seconds - not hibernation, shutdown. The two fans hardly ever come on (they work as a pair) which helps with battery life, unless playing games when it switches from the Intel to the Nvidia graphics chips and with the fans off it is silent as the disc drive is a solid state drive (SSD) - a bunch of chips with no moving parts. What else can I say, read the reviews, watch the YouTube reviews and compare with alternatives. My aim was to buy a laptop that I would use for the next 6 to 8 years, I'd like to think that with 1Gb of disc space, loads of RAM and processing power it will. I, therefore justify the high cost by offsetting against 6+ years of life. The only issue with life expectancy that I can foresee is a weak Nvidia graphics card (according to reviews I have read) but I'm not much of a gamer and so I don't need the fastest graphics card so I expect this to be more than good enough in 6+ years time. Postscript: 29th Dec 2017, still no issues, newer model now released with higher spec processor (not really needed) but might have an improved graphics card everything else seems to be the same although note there are differences between 13" & 15.6" versions and between countries - the USA version has a different (worse) spec than the UK. Still very happy with this purchase. One querk when folded over 'A' style to watch a video with hinges at top Windows Hello doesn't work because the camera is now at the bottom and from its point of view I'm upside down. Slightly annoying but a Microsoft problem and Windows isn't as good at user functionality as most smart phones.

This is a really well specced , lightweight laptop with a nice look.:The 13" screen is clear and sharp, though slightly prone to glare/reflection. The touch screen is very responsive.Sound-wise I tend to use headphones or a bluetooth speaker, but the onboard speakers are adequate for lap based use.The Bang & Olufsen software doesn't seem to do do much - and given how thing the laptop is there really isn't much room for any serious bass producing speakers.Storage is via SSD andalthough the device has a fan it is as quiet as a phone/ipad in operation so you are not competing against a background whirr.I've used the spectre extensively for work and home use over the last few weeks with no signsof overheating after hours of continuous use.I have all but disabled the trackpad - the gestures etc were too sensitive/unreliable and as the device has a touch screen seemed more trouble than benefit. I use an HP Active Pen for detailed screen work or a wireless mouse if I am working on spreadsheets/powerpoint. That said this is as much personal choice as a reflection on the specifics of the HP trackpad .Battery life has been good- i haven't used to unplugged for hours at a time, but dipping in and out while on the go it holds its charge well.Form factor: the ability to turn into a tablet is more than a gimmick. Though large for a handheld the flexibility of the 180° hinge allows for convenient viewing of movies and for reading/note taking positions. The 512GB SSD is adequate storage for normal use and can be extended by the addition of an SD card, USB drives or cloud storage depending on your needs and preferences. The only real downside so far was a problem with screen flicker/phantom touches. I noticed it after a few days and was on the verge of returning the device but thought I would look up the HP forums first. It appears that this is a relatively common problem with the spectre, but one which (for me at least) was resolved by downloading and installing the latest firmware for the screen. (in my case this was the HP QHD Touchscreen Controller Firmware Update - sp78423 but check the model of your machine before attempting ).

I did significant research and thought long and hard about whether to buy a 2 in 1 or laptop with a touch screen, but as my main reason for wanting the touch screen is to use Windows Ink, its a no brainer that it has to be a 2 in 1 (ever tried writing on a laptop screen??!). The Spectre (13 inch) does transition well and is very usable as both laptop and tablet - this is undoubtedly a beautifully crafted and well designed machine which, given my general experience, I would still recommend as it is a pleasure to use.Unfortunately I received a "5:30pm Friday afternoon" job, which repeatedly froze for no apparent reason (even after upgrading BIOS and all necessary HP/Windows updates). The only way to get the machine working again was to close the lid, wait for it to go to sleep, and then open the lid again where it would continue on as normal until the next freeze. I ran some simple diagnostics (including a factory restore) but as an IT professional I am not inclined to spend hours on the phone to support people (especially as this happened from the outset and as this was happening very frequently - every 15 minutes or so), thus I have returned it to Amazon.Google searches show a few other people have experienced these freezes, but there are also many positive reviews and so I I assume this is a manufacturing fault and not a design flaw - if you do encounter this happening then I suggest you return for a replacement. (Putting your new machine through its paces during the first couple of days is always a good idea, and the app Prime95 (Google it) is good for checking out if you have a dud even if all seems well. I did not need to use this app on this machine - it froze during web browsing/simple tasks which were not putting any processing pressure on the system). If anyone else has encountered this problem (and found a fix or not) please do post on here so that other people can benefit. The jury is out at the moment as to whether I will go for another Spectre or the Dell XPS 2 in 1.

The word sophisticated comes to mind; this is a dream machine in convertible tablet/laptop form. The crystal clear 4K screen is the star feature...Hmm, or maybe it's the actual overall design... or the fact that it's faster than my 12GB RAM Lenovo desktop... Either way, the Spectre oozes excessive high quality with its delicious looks, productive functionality, and determined ability to entertain and thrill. I've owned a few tablets and laptops over the years, but this is the very best of the best. Just looking at it makes me smile. The typing experience is sheer bliss and comes backlit, and the touchpad is flawless to the point of being sublime. The onboard ports are very capable, allowing for the connection of hard drives and other side gadgets. The volume gets loud, although the sound quality could do with a more substantive presence of bass tones. The overall audio performance is still pretty fabulous. As well as the Spectre itself, the slick coal-black HP box includes a super active stylus and a handy leather-like case with useful compartments for both. I'm just beginning to play with the stylus, but was pleased to discover that alternative styluses work with the Spectre too. Windows 10 works beautifully, as does Word and other office applications. You Tube and Netflix have never looked (and sounded!) so good. I confess, my gaming interest is very limited, so I can't really comment on that side of things, apart from saying that a newer more powerful iteration of this very machine is now available for those who wish to game hard. The flexible/yoga-like capabilities is yet another bonus feature here, and I love it! If I have any concern regarding performance, then that would be the heat; the Spectre gets hot despite the onboard fans, which are audible when running. Still, HP has undoubtedly surpassed themselves with the Spectre x360. It offers just about everything I was hoping for... I just wish it could make my dinner. Highly recommended!

I have had this machine for about 4 months now.I have always linked HP to printers rather than anything else. To be honest some of the laptops they make are pretty bad in terms of performance or durability. I though quite a lot before deciding to go for the Spectre x360 but now that I have it I am very happy of my decision. The reasons for going for this model:- 4K display- Latest Core i7 CPU- Discrete video card, although not the latest from Nvidia- Touch screen with pen- Full HDMI port- Windows Hello compatible cameraI use the laptop primarily for playing Diablo 3 and watching Netflix or HBO Go.The performance is great, I tried Diablo 3 at 4K with all settings at low and it played quite fine.At 4K one doesn't really need to add AA or any other setting since the pixels are invisible at this point. I play it regularly at 1080p with settings at medium and it run flawlessly around 55 FPS. The fans go crazy though, especially if the room temperature is above 25 C.The battery when watching Netflix is also very good, it was at 70% after watching 3 hours of video with Bluetooth headset. Safe to say it will make the 7 hour mark without an issue. The only con I have thus far with it is the clunky 90W charger it comes with. I get that it is fast charge, but the charger of the EliteBook 840 is almost half the size. Some optimization could have been done there.I would have also liked some of the EliteBook features to be incorporated in the Spectre like the auto-dimming keyboard when idle for 5 seconds or turning on by opening the lid (like coming back from sleep but for cold start).I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a sleek machine with good battery and great performance, even for video games!

I love this laptop. Does everything, will play games but may need to tweak the settings.Screen: fantastic. Love the touch screen and stylusBattery: great, lasts an ageKeyboard: great feel. Clicks just right and is so often overlooks these days where manufacturers use cheap ones (which is mad when it’s the thing you use the most)Performance: awesome. Very quick CPU and plenty of memory.Graphics: for high end games you’ll need to tweak it to lower settings. But the dedicated graphics card can deal with games. As for watching movies and media??? Wow. I love it. Netflix in 4K. Awesome.Design: it’s beautiful, very slim. Nice brushed chrome finish. Does the whole convert to a tablet thing.Stylus: works really well.I was thinking it would be limited. But an artist friend had a go and produced something beautiful. I was impressed (with my friend and laptop)Overall: Well it’s not Cheap so you want quality. And this is. I’m not disappointed in any way and everyone that sees or tries it is impressed. Can do everything.Highly recommend as I’ve had expensive laptops before that have certain limitations or things I didn’t like. Not with this bad boy.

Have had this for just 2 weeks, so early days, but so far so good. Not the lightest, but a really nicely built and robust 15 inch laptop with full touch screen and convertible form factor. Keyboard is excellent in my opinion (I'm a fast touch typist, so I tend to be picky about my keyboards and know a good one when I use it). The screen is superb and it is really great to be able to flip this to tent mode and watch video full-screen, you can also browse the web very comfortably in this mode using touch to navigate very fluidly. I can't imagine ever going back to a non-touch screen laptop. The included pen seems to work well, but I personally can't think of a use case for it for my work,as I am not an artist. As well as the Web, my main app mileage is with MS Office and Lightroom, both these programmes work smoothly and the screen really comes into its own with Lightroom for photo editing (I work with large files from a full-frame camera in RAW).

This is a great laptop in my opinion and I was surprised to read some negative reviews - I wondered if they were from competitors as I genuinely can't understand how you could dislike the Spectre x360 16gb 15 inch laptop. The picture quality is 4k and it beats the recent Macbook (I own the 2016 Pro), it is realitively fast and the USB C's mean that it is future proof. For a business user the fliping of the screen is fantastic and the pen provided works 10/10.I get at least 7 to 8 hours of battery life when I am constantly on it so it is pretty decent.I think it looks beautiful too and very professional.Hope some the negative reviews don't put people off as I nearly did when I read them - thankfullyI did lots of research and read a lot of positive reviews by professional reviewers which put my mind at ease a bit.To summerise - cracking laptop just as good as a Macbook Pro 2016 or 2017 models - don't be afraid!

I bought this lovely portable a couple of months ago and it is such a great piece of kit. Apart from the admiring glances I get from fellow travelers and from other people in my local coffee shop ( I have the rose gold model), it has a really long battery life, rarely found as we all know. The screen is so clear and sharp, the touch screen very reactive, the keyboard back lit, which is much more useful than i imagined and the keys well-spaced so you do not double hit another key. There are lots of other tecchie things to be said, but the bottom line is I have fallen in love with it as have my friends. The slip-in case they supply with it is really hardy, smart looking and easy to put in a decent size handbag AND you can buy a matching mouse if you want (I did). Best portable on the market, easily competes with an Apple Pro and outstrips the Pro in looks and ease of use.

Bought this to replace an existing HP laptop which was getting old.The Spectre is superb. Its much lighter than my previous laptop which is mainly due to it being 15" rather than my previous 17", however due to the spectre screen being so close to the edge of the laptop I really haven't noticed much difference in screen size. The touchscreen makes online gaming and purchasing much easier.

I used to own a Macbook Pro 2015 version, and this is without a much better system. The quality of the build and the speed is unreal. The design is very nice too. Using it in tablet mood is a little heavy and I would love to get some cover for the keypad that allows use in table mode easier, but apart from this, I can not recommend this ENOUGH. SUPER system.

Bought after my last HP laptop was stolen. This is much faster than the Pavillion. The dual use as a tablet is not great as it is quite heavy to carry around (for a tablet) but the touch screen and pen works incredibly well to give it its dues. Could do with a few more usb ports and I miss the HDMI port but aside from that I would certainly recommend.

12.2.2020

Perfect for everyday use and long battery helps it go on all day even under heavy usage.Charged via both usb c ports so perfect portability, take a small 60w plug and type c cable and your good to go!Cannot recommend enough. However you do have to update all the drivers yourself in order to get the full experience

Absolutely adore this laptop. Powerful processor, wonderful screen & graphics, facility of use excellent plus the utility design is virtually unequalled, swaps between laptop & tablet mode in a second. Makes work a breeze, gaming a whirlwind & viewing a bracing zephyr blowing cobwebs away. Marvelous platform.
