This is Thomas and the cave collapse. Assembly is easy, mostly it's assembled already; really it's a case of putting the track together. You'll need 2 AAA batteries and a small screwdriver to put them in with. It's straightforward. Once you have it all together it can be played with.Playing consists of setting up the boulders, putting Darcy in the right place and then setting Thomas off. Once Thomas is in the mineshaft where he stops, the handcrank is turned lifting him to the top. When he's at the top, he automatically goes down the ramp, into Darcy and Darcy carries him around where he goes into the mineshaft again. That's it. At that point, you need to remove Thomas and reset the whole thing. In my trial the action takes less than 30 seconds before you need to set it all up again. {See video.)We had a couple minor issues. One time the boulders blocked Darcy and Thomas never made it. Another time Thomas fell off the ramp and stopped working - probably a battery knocked loose - but he didn't work for a bit.Overall though, this is a one trick Thomas unless you have other Trackmaster that you can connect to. Trains can't even go around a loop, which is a bit disappointing, needs resetting each time. I do wonder how long this would last as a plaything on its own.

I'm always in two minds with trackmaster. On the one hand it's a great toy because the track and trains are reusable and extendable and sort of compatible with the old blue stuff and brio - and should theoretically mean it's a good choice of toy both for reusability and ecology, but then on the other hand they tend to often be "single function" and not flexible in themselves, and if a bit breaks or gets lost (which happens _all the time_) then it renders that set impossible to use as a set. They also pack away really badly which annoys me. But...on with the review anyway,The set is based on a single train going round a circuit and into a bulldozer thing which moves away ping pong balls which come out of a uhm...mountain uhh thing? It's fun, but without more track it's going to probably limit the imagination of your child sooner rather than later. As an addon great, as a starter set, great, but brace yourself, if it's your first trackmaster you're going to find yourself buying more...and more...and more...I also think only thomas will fit in here, we have longer trains from other sets but as you can see in the vids/photos the carriage thing is only thomas sized...this does tend to happen with trackmaster and take n play quite a lot. But, it is what it is!

The first time out the box I assembled it just so we could see what it did so much quicker. The instructions are really straight forward and the track pieces are all labelled clearly. Once assembled, it is rather large with a good size track for the Thomas, and Darcy, to trundle round. My nearly 5 year old was able to put it together after seeing it built the first time, it is that straight forward. The toy itself held my nearly 5 year old's attention a lot longer than my three year old's. She was fascinated watching it go around the track, she loved resetting the boulders and the yellow removal train, to see the boulders getting cleared off the track. It is a lovely idea and it tells a story they can really get involved in.I like the winch handle to release the boulders and higher the train platform; there is lots to keep them occupied.Personally, I wish the track was longer, and I would be tempted to look at other Thomas tracks to build on what we have, but both my children thoroughly enjoyed it as it is.We do have the Nia train set and it was great that they are compatible with the different sets.

Thomas the Tank Engine seems to have an enduring appeal in our house, perhaps because there are pleny of exciting new sets like this that can be added as extensions to other sets and models. The Cave Collapse set is one of the more exciting and expensive models, but you get a lot of fun for the price, especially good for kids in the middle of the 3 - 7 age bracket. The back cover image on the packaging certainly makes the set look exciting as Thomas and Darcy race through a cave knocking away the boulders that come tumbling down from the collapsing mine works. It's very cleverly put together with cranking elements that lift Thomas up the mineshaft and down the track on top of Darcy to racearound and save the day from the crashing boulders. There are 21 pieces to assemble here that are not difficult for an adult to assemble, but the motorised engine requires 2xAAA batteries (not included). It's a terrific set that inspires young ones to can create an imaginative storyline and engage with friends, even better if you can combine it and extend it with other Thomas the Tank Engine sets.

Be prepared, there are 21 pieces to this and you need to get 2 AAA batteries to avoid putting it all together to find you are going nowhere. It is very easy to assemble and great fun. There is a winch arrangement that takes Thomas up to the top and he drives down clearing boulders out of the way. The pieces are not tiny but still need supervision, especially the boulders which are about the size of marbles. The track is not too long which is not a bad thing or it would need a room on it's own. However there are add ons and we have another train from the Thomas range that we incorporated into the game. Seems to hold their attention for ages as it has such a range of activities and stores to tell.Like most people we have lots of Thomas books and I believe there is one covering this event so we will be buying that as we find that using books and toys alongside each other adds to the fun and makes it 'real'. On the whole a great present for 3 to 5 or 6 year olds who love a bit of destruction, Thomas the Tank and seeing how things go together and pull apart. Brilliant.

This set is great fun and everything runs smoothly. You will need AAA batteries and a screwdriver to access the battery compartment.Set Thomas on his way into the lift where he will stop at the buffers, Hand crank him up to the top of the lift. As you are cranking, the boulders are released one by one down the chute, so that they block the cave. At the top of the lift Thomas drops down and loads himself onto Darcy the drilling machine. Darcy advances, spinning her drill through the boulders. Darcy automatically releases Thomas to carry on his journey. Some more track would have been welcome. This set also does not include a set of points.A can understand this being a relatively expensive set, because of the number of special pieces it contains. I have also taken a look at prices elsewhere and they are all higher.

This is a fantastic Thomas the Tank Engine set, this is the cave collapse set which comprises a motorised Thomas controlling Darcy to clear boulders from the collapsing caves, Darcy itself is not motorised but is carried by Thomas, Darcy has an attachment like a propellor to whack the boulders as they fall. This is quite a large set and requires adult help and supervision to build, it's great for the kids as you can let them have free rein to build it and see how they get along , it gives hours of pleasure and can also be incorporated into other trackmaster sets for an even bigger build. The set requires two triple A batteries which are not included. The box it comes in looks absolutely superb and would make a super gift for children, the age range is from 3 to 7 years old, but I had fun myself playing with it.

Set needs 2 AAA batteries as they aren't included. The instructions to put this together is so easy to follow. The set has definitely been made with kids in mind as they could put it together themselves after a few demonstrations. The play routine of this is basically setting the boulders hand cranking to raise Thomas to the top of the elevator, then watch Thomas drop down on top of Darcy the digger as she "smashes" through the boulders, then repeat. The whole process doesn't last very long and for £46.99 (at time) you'd expect a bit more. It is a good set I just can't see kids playing with just this set doing the same thing over and over again for a long time.If it was part of a larger collection of Thomas items it would be better. The set itself is well made however and doesn't feel cheaply made.

My kids received this toy over the weekend. As soon as my three year old son saw the box he yells Thomas! The setup was easy and it fit perfectly on our current train table. My son along with my daughters ages 6, 9, and 11 enjoyed and still are enjoying this product. They love the fact that it is motorized. My son learned how to turn the wheel to make Thomas go up and the balls fall just by watching his sisters do it one time. The only negative part about this toy is you don’t have a lot of time to put the balls and Darcy back before Thomas comes around again. I think the track should’ve been a little longer for this. Other than that this product is definitely one that is providing a lot of entertainment for my kids especially my three year old![This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

My son absolutely loves this Thomas track. Not only does he want to play with it constantly but, it's also the track set he wants to come back to every morning or every time he has any time to play! Assembly was very easy and done in just minutes. Only 2 triple A batteries are required. My son has other trackmaster tracks but, favors this one over all the rest. He loves how Thomas plows through the cave with the help of Darcy. Every time the boulders are pushed away by Darcy and Thomas my child laughs and laughs. Then he goes right back to turning the crank and returning Thomas to the top to do it all again! I would definitely recommend this track for any Thomas fan in your life![This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Firstly, the big colourful box contains 21 toddler friendly sized pieces, but as always it's better to keep an eye on younger kids. It also needs some AAA batteries so adult supervision required for that. The track itself isn't very long but is expandable using track sections from other sets. Thomas whizzes around happily alone or riding his new friend through the cave - this bit is a bit fiddly as if Thomas doesn't sit exactly right nobody goes anywhere. The cave/rockfall part adds extra excitement to proceedings. All in all lots of fun. Track could be a bit longer as can get repetitive very quickly for the grown ups but with box of extra track I can see this keeping everyone entertained allday.

I hope that you consider my review below helpful:This motorised toy set is very impressive. I keep scratching my head wondering how it was engineering and how it works. Now just imagine what the little ones think about it!Turn the crank to take Thomas up the Minecraft elevator. When he gets to the top, he drops down on top of Darcy! The motorised Thomas engine rides on top of Darcy, and powers the digger along. Darcy's rotating digging attachment knocks down boulders as the pair ride through a crumbling cave! The boulders are released when children turn the Minecraft crank. Thomas and Darcy make a dynamic, digging duo… and kids control the action!Perfect to help children’s fine motor skills!!

My son couldn't wait to point out all the features of Thomas' front end loader, even before he opened the box. Upon actually opening the box, he turned it around to illustrate exactly how the toy worked. He explained how the tank goes from the top of the mountain and crushes boulders along the way...THEN he actually opened the package. ha ha! My son had a lot of fun with this toy and continues to play with it every day. Additionally, we saw it in a local Target store last weekend and he ran right up to it to point out the other tracks and toys available. We're wondering if the tracks can join together to form a larger interactive set. ??[This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
