What we have here is a PSone twin pack. We have Gran Turismo and we have Motor Toon Grand Prix 2, two racing games developed by Polyphony Digital. The package can be described in three words: chalk and cheese. That applies to both the style of the games and the quality.First up, Gran Turismo, the start of the greatest racing game series of all time. This game is all about realism. It lives it, it breaths it; even in the Arcade mode where all you have to do is just select a course and a car, and you're ready to race. It's all good fun, but the Gran Turismo mode is where you want to be.Gran Turismo mode is a fantastic journey into the world of motor racing.First you have to pass a series of tests in order to get your hands on the licenses. After that you buy a car, go racing, win, earn some cash and a prize car, upgrade your car, and do more racing. Repeat until you've run out of positive things to say about this game. With nearly 300 cars to choose from represented by ten different manufacturers, you won't be getting bored with GT anytime soon. The graphics are the best PSone has to offer, and they still look good even today. The stands, the road surfaces, the cars and the advertising boards all have a large amount of detail on them to admire; particularly the advertising boards where you can clearly make out the manufacturers' logos. The handling of the cars is also impressively realistic, and you'll notice the effects of any upgrades you make to your car, like turbo engines will make it go faster, or brake kits will help slow your car down quicker. If Gran Turismo was the Beauty then Motor Toon Grand Prix 2 is more like the Beast, albeit a childish one that just wants to have fun and be friendly. This cartoon racer allows you to pick one of five toon characters, and race around five different tracks. During races you can use power-ups to boost your chances of winning races; some will handicap the opposition while some appear to be just for show.Your main stop is the Championship Race, where you need to race for points to win the championship and unlock extra stuff in the Goodies section. The problem is the game is too difficult to beat on the harder difficulty levels, which you need to play in order to unlock everything. The cars suffer from a minor case of under steer as well, and if you're an older gamer you won't really take a liking to any of the toon characters. They're just not funny. It's too bad about these faults, because Motor Toon Grand Prix 2 does have pretty good graphics, and most of the tracks are have some nice scenery to look at.So, one good game and one bad. Is this package worth the purchase? Well it's definitely worth it for Gran Turismo, and if you have any kids or much younger siblings you could let them have a go on Motor Toon Grand Prix 2 as they're more likely to get some fun out of that game. But if you hate the idea of having a cartoonish racer in your house then you would be better off purchasing a copy of Gran Turismo on its own.Gran Tursimo = 5-StarsMotor Toon Grand Prix 2 = 2-StarsOverall = 4-Stars
