Unpacking this was easy - it's well secured in the box but it isn't held down with traditional cable ties, so I was able to get it out of the box in a couple of minutes. It's bigger than I was expecting. The fur is very soft but the body itself is hard - so it's not really cuddly cuddly. Saying that, once it's turned on you do find yourself almost automatically stroking it as if it were real.It doesn't come with batteries - considering how much it costs this is a little annoying - so you'll need to buy x4 LR14 / C 1.5V batteries. The battery compartment is located between the back legs (the diagram in the instruction booklet is not that clear, don't try and open up the fur between the front legs, the battery compartment isn't there) and is concealed by a Velcro strip in the fur.If you are buying this for Christmas, I would advise putting the batteries in Christmas Eve, so you can do it in relative peace and quiet. I have to admit when I was replacing the battery cover after putting the batteries in, there was more than a little swearing involved. The battery cover is slightly bigger than the gap in the fur, and it is somewhat frustrating and fiddly getting the darn thing screwed back down again and hidden by fur.The tiger itself is beautifully made - but doesn't really do that much. It's meant to interact with it's rubber chicken - does anybody know how that works? It responds to being stroked - by purring. If you roar at it, it will roar back, I am not overly wowed. My 4-year old loves it at the moment but I think the appeal will wear off relatively quickly. I wouldn't buy it for older children, I think 8 and above it won't have as much appeal (thinking of my nieces). My 2-year old loves it, he would love it to death. Unfortunately (or should that be fortunately) he is not in the appropriate age group of 4+. Their grandma is waiting for it to be abandoned so that she can claim it for her own, she finds stroking it quite calming.Bear in mind the temperament of your cat or dog. Our dog tolerates it, but would probably prefer it if it wasn't there and may be secretly plotting it's destruction. I don't leave them alone together. I don't want it to unintentionally become a very expensive dog chew.I was torn between giving this 3 or 4 stars. I gave it four stars in the end because it is well made, and is beautiful and a couple of times I've found myself with it on my lap, stroking it as if it were a real cat. (The dog does not appreciate this). But I don't know if it does enough to have long term interest for the children - though it does seem as if there is at least one adult waiting for their interest to fade.

I have tested Tyler with grandchildren from ages from 4 to 11, and they especially love his big eyes, they are so imploring and appealing. The very soft fur over the necessarily hard, inner shell is really tactile, very well designed, to look realistic. Every part of this 'animal' is enchanting.Once opened up with a miniature screwdriver, cross thread head, and loaded up with the 4 C (not provided) pillar type batteries, you turn him on by the battery box with a little switch. I think this is not so well though out, as from then on you have to turn him upside down, undo the velcro cover, just to turn him on and off. The button is not that easy to access. However there is soft button under his fur on his back,so when he is left on, but asleep as it were, you can wake him up by pressing that down. When you switch him on, he comes alive immediately and wriggles realistically! Then he can work through so many actions and sounds it would be hard to list them all. He bows, nods his head, rolls his eyes, waggles his ears, sniffs, speaks or rather roars, yawns and makes cat noises, purring, and yowling. His tail moves from side to side, he puts his bottom up in the air. He opens and shuts his eyes in response to being stroked, he plays with his little chicken toy, he can have that in his jaws... Honestly he actually appears to look at you! It's seriously spooky. Tyler seems to get extra busy if ignored. He doesn't actually walk anywhere, he stays in the same place. Thank goodness. Most fun was squeaking at him, his little toy didn't do much of a squeak, but making the noise ourselves provoked a reaction that we liked. The children, who all have real pets, were still intrigued. However, I think this would be more appreciated by children without any animals already. Would be a good idea to unpack him a little, and set him up with batteries, before presenting him to his new owner. Leaving him around switched on, will surprise the Grand parents after Christmas lunch!PS Two months on, he is still running on the original batteries He has been taken everywhere including pre school 'Show and Tell' - no problems at all, still working wonderfully and hugely popular with all ages. Tyler sleeps beside his four old friend and gives enormous reassurance and fun.

I love him, I have brought this as a present for my elderly mother who is contemplating getting a (real) cat. She lives alone and wants 'something/someone' to talk to and although her canary sings it isn't the best company. She is very deaf which may be a good thing as I suspect the tiger noises might get a bit annoying after a while. Please note it doesn't come ready to use straight from the box and YOU NEED 4 C LR14 BATTERIES to insert before he works (these are quite expensive but suggest you buy them at the same time to avoid disappointment). However, this gave me the excuse to undo all the packaging to get him out and have a play. He is very big and there are sensors in his ears, on his back,on his muzzle, and I suspect on his chest and back legs too but have only spent 10 minutes playing with him.. Some of his noises sound like short nursery rhyme phrases and he purrs and of course roars (and does little farts and then tiger cub giggles). All of his sounds are tiger based he does not talk in a human language. He is very stroke-able but has a hard body, and the battery compartment requires you to do some abdominal surgery (with a screwdriver), but once the batteries are in place you can turn him on and off with a small switch located in, well, er, lets say below his tail for politeness!Pricewise, I think I probably paid a fair price at £90 (free delivery with Prime) for what he does, and I know he is available at other places for much more. There you go Mum, a 'big' fluffy cat that makes no mess, will not get run over on your busy road and won't try and kill your canary as he comes complete with his own baby chicken to play with (can't understand the reasoning behind that but then...!) Now can I bear to rewrap him to send to Mum or will I have to keep him.

Tyler can make many different noises from a cub roar to a purr. He moves his body about, but doesn’t actually walk about, and sometimes looks like he is about to pounce. His eyes open and close, he likes to blink quite a lot too. His eyes are big and blue. The irises are life like and somehow expressive.Inside his mouth is very pink. He has lovely white teeth but he cannot bite, so all small fingers are safe.Mostly he says Wah Wah! His purring is loud and is a comforting sound. He has many other sounds to express himself too.Tyler’s tail moves from side to sideHe can also move his ears.On his body and head are different pressure points that activate his sounds and movements. His fur feels lovely and soft to touch and stroke. He likes to roar if you roar at him.He is supposed to respond to his toy but I didn’t really see that happening. Other than a small sniffing noise when it was placed under his nose.Tyler is a very sturdy toy tiger. He stands on big strong paws. You need 4 C batteries to bring him to life and they are not provided. He does have an off switch. This is a great toy. The manufacturers say it is for 4 plus in age. The packaging is attractive and will need adult help to remove it and set Tyler free. This is an adorable wonderful well made well designed toy that seems so close to a real live tiger cub!I love him and I am sure all children will do too. He really feels to be robust and will live long and cherished in his new home.

Tyler has been a hit with everyone who has seen him, from my 5-year old son (particularly him) to various grandparents in their 70s.Instead of building in multiple bells and whistles, FurReal have focused on making Tyler's body language as close to a real cat as possible. And the effect is impressive; there is something about the way he looks at you, lowers his eyelids when you are stroking him, moves his head to the side to engage with a stroke to his ears, makes happy purring noises and chirrups when you run your hand along his back.Obviously you know he's a robot - and in many ways it is not well hidden, because he has quite a hard robotic body under a thin layer of fur.But there is part of everyone who has seen him who has responded to him with affection and delight and I think think is because FurReal have managed to create an illusion of reality. He is loved by my 5 and 8 year old boys, particularly the younger one who I think is more willing to try to believe that Tyler is real. How long he will remain in favour I don't know; I suspect that the novelty will wear off at some point. But he is an absolutely delightful big box present and - as an adult - I appreciate the simplicity of his design and that FurReal have restrained themselves from adding annoying catchphrases and songs.

We saw this on a news report about Christmas toys and then got the chance to try one .Well it just has to be the cutest thing ever in my opinion, he's loved by all who see it old and young. The batteries are a bit of a fiddle to get in the battery compartment but screw in tightly and it has the on off switch as part of the box, the tummy covers this with a Velcro fastening. the body of the toy is hard but the fabric is ever so soft and touchable. Our chicken toy doeskin squeak though and so ours doesn't really interact with it properly but any squeaky toy would do the same thing I would assume (I don't have one to try this). The noises it makes when working aren't annoyingly loud so parents will be ok with it,some are realistic tiger growls others are the sort of noises your child would make to mimic a tiger. At this price point though I think a rechargeable battery pack would have been a nice addition, or at least a pack of 4 C batteries to get you started. Some older children may get a little bored of the toy quickly but for the right child it would be the best thing ever. The instructions do say you can use re-chargeable batteries in the unit , so that's a plus as not all will.

This is one of the exotic pets in the Furreal range and you get a fairly large, tiger cub. Like all the Furreal toys, this is extremely interactive and looks very sweet – with large eyes and a long tail. He is quite fluffy, although, when you stroke him, you can feel he is hard underneath. The tiger has sensors on his head and back and interacts well – if you growl at him, for example, he will growl back at you.The tiger can move his legs, so he will crouch down over his front legs and you can pose him, so he is sitting. If you put his chewy toy in his mouth, he will chew on it and make eating noises. Overall, he can make over 100 combinations of noises and movements. From chewing, burping, growling, making mewling noises and responding to touch and noise. If you are thinking of buying this as a present, it comes in a huge box and is a pretty big toy. This comes with a correspondingly fairly high price tag, but it will be certain to be a big hit with children. My daughter and niece absolutely adore him and have had great fun playing with Tyler. This is a great addition to the Furreal range and very sweet and appealing, as well as extremely interactive.

My seven year old daughter is smitten with Tyler (she calls him Tigger). The toy is really quite adorable to the point where visiting adults are quite attracted to it!Four C cells are required and a small cross-head screwdriver. The packaging is on the big side, but it is easy to unpack. There's an on / off switch and a separate 'wake up' button which is a good idea.Tigger has touch sensors on his back and the side of his nose and there's also a microphone to allow responses to sound (such as 'roar'). The rear legs are poseable which is useful if one's child wants to give the toy a big cuddle. The front legs move, as do the tails, ears, mouth and eyes and they really are rather life-like!The accompanying chicken had only limited attraction for my daughter (put it in Tigger's mouth), but others may enjoy that aspect more. Size wise it's about the same size as a stocky adult cat (we have cats and they find this toy fascinating).Battery life has been surprising good (and it will run happily on rechargeables). The price does seem to vary considerably so keep an eye out for a bargain. Overall a very adictive toy.

Hasbro is renowned as a world leader when it comes to toys and it should come as no surprise that they have come up with a winner here. Tyler is quite simply all a child could want in an animated toy.The first surprise is how big he is - this is no little kitty. He comes in a big colourful box, with his 'toy' chick. Put in the four C4 batteries and he comes right to life; if you roar he roars back; stroke him on the head and he closes his eyes. In fact, there are over 100 interactions and I can't wait to get to know them all (via my 4-year-old niece). There are hours and hours of play available here - I will have to stock up on those big batteries (between £5 and £7 for four and not included).Short of having a real animal, this is a really great companion. Big and cuddly, I am guessing someone is going to have a new best friend. The losers will be last years toys which I can see taking a big back seat to this cuddly little monster.Tyler is not the cheapest toy, but having seen what he can do I think he is worth every penny and could end up as being one of the 'must have' toys this Christmas and beyond.

Bought for myself (adult in my 40s!) as I wanted something interactive since our cat died and we're not able to have another. Everyone absolutely loves him, the fur is incredibly soft and although it covers a hard robotic body the tiger is still cuddlable, its nice having him sit next to you and be wiggling about, moving his body up and down and shaking his head. Not sure on the 100 different noises but there's certainly a wide range of them from tiny purrs and mewls to full out roars, sneezes, farts and something that sounds like the start of a tune. Its an expensive buy but so well made, is a good size and impressively well thought-out. Getting the batteries in was a bit fiddly but I found a video online that showed clearly what to do,and the on-off switch is where a cat's bumhole would be which is amusing if a bit awkward to reach under the fur. The only thing that doesn't work too well on my model is getting tiger to chew on the squeaky toy, you really have to jam the toy in there to trigger that but otherwise all is well.

This is incredible. My daughters are crazy about these various animals that make sounds etc. At first I thought a tiger wouldn’t be quite as appealing as the usual dog/cat/bunny toys but I was wrong! This is huge for a start, the size of a small household pet and weighs about the same. It’s not for the faint hearted! However, size aside, it’s adorable. It’s growls and purrs and is super soft to stroke. I expected it to walk but it doesn’t (thank goodness, way too creepy!) but it moves and makes a variety of noises. Definitely on the cute side rather than the scary side and my girls have huge battles over who actually owns it. Now I don’t need to get them a pet!Great fun and a substantial solid toy for the money.Edit: well it's October 2018 and my 10 year old is sitting on the bed playing with Tyler and I'm sitting here stroking him too. He's still going strong, still adorable and very long lasting. I'd still buy him!

Roarin' Tyler comes attractively packaged in a see through box including his squeaky toy. It is packaged without any potentially harmful wire or plastic ties. You need a Phillips screwdriver to install four C type batteries (not included) and away you go.Tyler is very soft and cuddly and makes a wide range of movements - he purrs, roars and mews, his head and ears move and his eyes open and close. He will also respond to the squeak of the included toy bird. He doesn't like to be ignored but after a while he will fall asleep if not played with. The complexity and randomness of his reactions are such that it is not quite predictable how he will respond - which gives him an amazing lifelike quality, even though he doesn't actually walk. This is a great toy and small children are bound to fall in love with him.

My initial reaction was 'hideous', but upon setting up Tyler, we were all smitten. We have given him to a children's cancer ward, and he has been brilliantly received. He's quite expensive to run, requiring 4 CLR14 batteries, but from the reactions of the children, this cost is worth it. He's about the same size as a real tiger cub and comes with sensors in his ears, back, muzzle, chest and back legs Some of his noises are similar to nursery rhyme phrases. He purrs, roars and emits little farts and giggles. At £90 Tyler is expensive, but compared with other toys in a similar price bracket, is a real winner. I hope his little chick doesn't go missing. Great toy, lots of fun with over 100 different noises/movements.Hasbro has done its research and Tyler will be popular this Christmas with young children.

Just how expensive was this?!! It was £130 for ages, and when amazon dropped it to £100, we snapped it up as my 4-5 year old wanted it for Christmas. I wouldn't normally spend this sort of money on one present, but she campaigned like a pro for it. It is pretty cool I'll grant you. Takes some big batteries and I'd forgotten to buy new ones, but had a few in a drawer somewhere. BIG BIG mistake. It worked, but wasn't that great. And then the interest was lost. When I put brand new batteries in, he reacted more and moved, which he didn't on the weak/cheap batteries. But after an hour she turned him off. he gets turned on now and then, but for £100, she's not getting another animatronic animal after this purchase.Unless she campaigns for it though...

just thought I would give any one having problems with this little guy a heads up.I took him out of the box on Christmas eve to be ready for Christmas morning, I put in 4 batterys that I purchased from a well known discount retailer(4 for a quid).I was immediately worried by the lack of movement and the fact that his eyes seemed to remain firmly closed. anyhow it was to late to go back now as it was half eleven on Xmas eve.our five year old daughter was still delighted with him, but I still had a sense of disappointment. I decided to try decent batteries( starts with dura ends in cell).Hey presto the little guy bursts into life, and is far better now,no trip to tiger hospital for our little guy.moral of the story: use decent batterys
