I have attached a video review of JJ to this written review which is viewable either via a desktop computer or if you have your phone/tablet in desktop mode. There is also a photo slideshow at the end of the video should anyone wish to just look at the photo's rather than view the video. My children absolutely love this FurReal Friends JJ Pug toy and I have to admit he is really cute. This is the first FurReal Friends toy that we have had and I am really impressed with him.JJ comes with batteries included and so he is ready to play with straight away out of the box and to be honest he was barking and trying to jump even as we were opening the Amazon box that he came in!To replace the batteries you will need 4 AA ones and a Philips/Posidrive/Crosshead screwdriver to open the battery compartment. He has a switch underneath which allows him to be turned off, turned on and turned onto demo mode which is the mode he arrives in.JJ is so soft and fluffy and is absolutely gorgeous with his big green eyes and folded over ears. I am not normally a Pug type of dog fan to be honest however JJ is so cute that he is impossible not to like. JJ has a little curly tail and his nose and tongue are textured to make them more life like. JJ also has his little FurReal Friends dog tag attached to his neck which is in a lovely light blue shade.JJ barks and stands up on hind legs when you pet him on the head or wave your hand slowly in front of his face and he also makes a very 'puggish' snorting type of sound which my children and I think sounds like he is passing wind and they find it absolutely hysterical. Getting JJ to sit is a little more difficult as when you stroke his back he tends to move forwards and the button that makes him sit is a bit lower down near his bottom than on his back but once you know where it is it's relatively easy to do. JJ won't be staying JJ for long as my son doesn't like the name and is already thinking of new ones to call him and "Puppy" as he is known as for the time being, now has to go everywhere with my son.A brilliant and quite life like little puppy in his mannerisms and he is already very much loved in my home and he is bound to be on a lot of children's Christmas lists this year although he would be a perfect gift at any time of year as a Pug is not just for Christmas (sorry I couldn't resist)!

With a really cute expression, big shiny eye, soft "fur" & a series of appealing yaps & puppy noises JJ or Joshi as he is now known by us & our boys is a very welcome addition to our household. With noting at this stage that we already have & the boys are used to a full size, real life German Shepherd.Joshi reacts to gentle pats on his head, strokes on his back ( when you find the right spot ) & when you pass a hand in front of his face. This isnt really an action to be encouraged with a real dog, so its worth making sure any children realise that they shouldnt be doing this to real dogs, or any other animals really. As far as interactivity goes, that's about it. The range of nosied Joshi makes are very appealing,if a little confusing to our GSD. This includes what sounds like Joshi breaking wind occasionally - no doubt our boys will find that hilarious when they cotton on to it !! Batteries (4xAA) come supplied & there is, thankfully an off switch. In addition, there is a demo position , which can be a bit unsettling when you first receive your friend as he barks at you through the plastic wrapping ! As for value for money, when we received him, he was at £35 - not bad, but a bit more variety of actions would make a good toy into a great toy at this price. Pay more & you, even if your children arent, may well feel short changed. After all, it's not like your friend can be cuddled like a regular soft toy - you can feel the working mechanism inside far too easily. As others have also observed, possibly a much cheaper, cleaner, easier & fairer way to see if your child is possibly ready to interact with a real pet.

This is a cute little puppy which interacts with your child. Aimed at 4+ the pug has soft fur, feels quite realistic and reacts in two main ways; by either patting his head or waving your hand in front of his face. Patting seemed to work best, as the motion sensor did not always trigger if my daughter waved her hand near his face (not that it is a very realistic action anyway – you don’t normally go up to dogs and wave at them frantically in my experience). Still, when the pug reacts he stands up on his hind legs, jumps and makes a variety of cute noises. On the plus side, this is a very cute little puppy. He has appealing eyes and a cute pink tongue and nice, soft fur.He reacts well and made my daughter and niece giggle. The batteries go in the back feet, which are fixed together for balance and he certainly stood, and jumped up, very well. If the toy does fall forward, he sort of splays on his nose and it looked as though it was intentional. On the minus side, he really doesn’t do much other than make noises and jump up. Some other toys in the range can be fed and cared for – this has a little play ball, which the girls enjoyed throwing at him (in a gentle way). Although the toys actions were quite limited, this did amuse them. One of the things they liked most was if the puppy got too excited, you could stroke his head gently and calm him down and so it felt as though he was interacting with them. I am not sure how long the appeal of the toy would last, as the actions were a little repetitive , but if your child really wants a pet and you prefer something a little easier, this should be a hit.

A very soft and cute puppy for any age children, my 12 year old granddaughter loved it and so did my 2 year old grandson. It reacts in 2 ways petting its head, wave in front of its face or stroking his back, but we found stroking its face got a better reaction, which made it stand up on its back legs or sit back down. It is bigger than I thought so that was a nice surprise. My grandson took it every where we went, he didn't want to put his very own doggy down. Lovely big eyes and a daft look on JJ's face make this so cute. The ears are sewn on but are like a loop and my grandson sometimes carried it this way, I think he like how they felt. The puppy doesn't do much really, he stands on his hind legs and yaps, pants and sits back down etc. You can feel the plastic underneath and it felt like I was feeling the dogs bones. This is a nicely made toy though and a big hit my house with a few of the grandchildren, who love dogs. The battery compartment are under his back paws as they are joined together to make this toy my sturdy. It takes 4 AA batterys which are supplied. There is an on/off switch and a demo mode setting, in which this comes. And because my grandson takes this to bed as soon as he falls asleep I go in and turn it off.A bit pricey for what it does, needs more interactive things to do with it to make this worth the money, but saying that it is giving a lot of pleasure to my grandson for now, so if he still loves it as much as he does now in a few months then it would be worth it for me then.

This is a plush pug dog that moves and interacts, by jumping up onto it's back legs when you wave your hand in front of it's face and sitting back down nicely when you pat it on the head. My kids all enjoy playing with this, especially my 4 year old who finds it really funny. It is soft on the outside, but not suited as a cuddly toy in bed since it has a lot of mechanisms inside it and you can kind of feel these when handling the pet - although it is good to stroke. It is very cute, and a lot more interactive than a standard teddy. It is quite expensive for what it is - but if your child wishes for a pet then they may love this and it would be worth it. It does show a lot of personality and appeals well to either boys or girls, and to most ages of children. It's well made, and easy to use. I think this is better than the other robot pets we previously had which were quite complicated - this one is simple and doesn't do as much but that makes it easy to use and less frustrating. If you're after an interactive pet toy for a child, then it will be a good option

This little pug puppy is sure to be a hit with any child who receives it, especially one that hankers after a real pup. JJ almost feels like a living pup, with his silky-soft fur and his solid little head that tilts from side to side. When he first arrives, JJ is switched on to demonstration mode and even before we had him unpacked, he was very excited. Every time the French windows were opened or closed, or the main light was switched on or off, JJ was barking, panting, jumping up and down and doing his best to scamper out of his box. He is very cute and appealing.JJ is activated by patting his head or by waving a hand in front of his face.He has quite a little repertoire in vocal expressions and puppy-like stances – he does a very cute and funny begging pose. He pants and slurps and his little jumping action even had the adults laughing. This is a super little toy and, although JJ is not exactly a cuddly toy – he’s quite hard-bodied in places – he’s already much loved by our youngsters.

I bought two of these (one sent directly to my grandson in Sweden) and the other for my grandson here in England. The one ordered for Sweden arrived intact and was well received as a special gift - he apparently has been named "Eyes". The other arrived promptly and my english grandson also adored the puppy, has named him Fluffy and insists he sleeps on his bed every night (which is great as he is terrified of live dogs and we hope this may help him get over his fear). Not sure that the barking sounds are very realistic and the jumping action is quite restricted, but they appear to be making two little boys very happy

This has to be the best interactive toy i have seen in a very long time. JJ the pug was making noises even before he arrived on my door step. The postmen were having a chuckle.JJ is a good size well constructed Pug that is perfect for any child over the age 2 years. My Granddaughter has been playing with him this morning. She is 8 months. So gets great delight when she waves her arms about and he springs to life. He truly is one of the best toy dogs i have seen. Value for money gets a 10/10 from me. Thank you.

You don't need to be a fan of pugs to fall in love with JJ.Pat his head and he will jump up enthusiastically to great you, barking panting and snorting with joy! His coat is super soft and he is the perfect size. He is rather pricey at time of review however this is a high quality toy which will delight and provide hours of fun to any child. The age guide is 4 years plus however the recipient of this pug at almost 2 loves her new furry friend and claps with joy at JJ's tricks and loves his doggy cuddles.

This is sooo cute! It is so soft and cuddly. It barks, makes sounds and pants. It is super cuddly and my niece who is pug obsessed absoutely loved this. It does take 3x AA batteries which are included but mine was completely dead. Worth checking before wrapping it up for a present.Overall would recommend 110%. It barks and bends now, jumping up to you. Super browny points to me!

Love this little pug, my 5 year old son is obsessed with pugs at the moment and I found this in the entertainer toy shop and paid £49.99 than looking at reviews spotted it on amazon for half the price, needless to say I took the other one back and ordered from here. I can't wait to see my little boys face Christmas he truly is an adorable toy pug. Delivery was super fast too

I bought this for my 5 year old little boy for his birthday because he is completely mad about pugs but we cant get one because we already have 3 cats and he loves it it is one of his favourite presents he got for his birthday. I would recomend this to anyone who has a child that loves pugs

My daughter had this for Christmas she's named it marshmallow as JJ wasn't that appealing for her she loves it although she was disappointed it didn't walk as well as jump up! Lovely dog and snuffles like pugs do .... we had a pug and it's like our replacement

30.12.2015

Did not do as much as we expected for the money and I think our granddaughter thought the same but didn't want to disappoint us. Don't think we would have bought if we had actually seen one first, we just went by our granddaughter's letter to Santa.
