This is exactly what you expect - an infra-red lamp bulb in an adjustable table lamp.I pointed it at my aching back, and after a short time the ache was reduced. I think that this will work for you if your problem is to do with tight muscles, but if the problem is in the bones I'm not sure it will help.It's important to get the distance from the lamp just right, and I wished I'd bought the cheaper lamp from the same maker with the 100 watt bulb, which I could have simply put a bit closer or used for a bit longer. With this one I feel "done" after a very short time, and getting the right distance is vital but fiddly.This is not for confused people or even people who tend to fall asleep easily,

I had read a view reviews of other cheaper lamps that did not have a proper stand. This one is very good and can be adjusted to reach the places you need to reach. It's a good quality lamp and does what it needs to do.
