It does exactly what it says. Very bright light, the feeling is real as if you were standing in broad daylight. Can be used without being plugged in for 1 hour. Does not stay on all the time, but rather does a 30 minute cycle of bright light and then shuts itself off. Using it remotely will thus give you 2 cycles on battery. As for the night mode, it works in a similar way, except that it emits dark red light, as if it were sunset outside, it's just that it gradually gets darker and darker, helping to promote sleepiness. I bought it to help me get through night shifts in property management where there is nothing to do most of the nights and to hep me get used to sleeping during the day and

this is a lovely SAD light, the illumination is flat and uniform the 30 min timer is handy and the redlight feature seems to help with dropping off to sleep. The only real down side is that the charger is a concentric round 3.5 V system not a USB style . maybe for the next upgrade

Good light easy to use light to carry charger looks a bit Heath Robinson and it could do with a carry handle or strap.
