I have had five Dysons since they came on the scene, starting with the first DC01. The original gave up the ghost when the motor expired, and my ex disposed of it, however it was perfectly salvageable and fitting a replacement motor would have been an economic fix. I have three models in almost daily use. The DC05. DC01 Heppa and DC07.The filter illustrated is post motor. It prevents fine particulates being vented into the house (including carbon from the commutator brushes within the motor), and this is not the original for a model like DC05 with an heppa filter, however it should have some functionality - better than nothing. The pre motor filter is equally important, and it comprises two parts 1.

Its a filter - dont know how much it filters and it is very different to the proper one in our dyson dc08. Dont bye this if you want your dyson to do what it says on the box. I will replace this soon with a proper one. Unfortunately dysons DO loose suction and washing the filter does not always help, hence the reason to bye new filters. Dyson do of course rip you off completely charging £30 for a hepa filter - they know the filters do not last!!!
