Every day I enjoy seeing and using these two mills. They are an excellent size, not too big for the table, comfortable in the hand, not so small that they need constant refilling. The large, single letter on the top of each mill makes selection between the salt or pepper easy. The simple method to adjust the coarseness of grind makes them great for use when cooking or at the table. The quality presentation box makes them an excellent gift. The gift set comes in a very attractive presentation box. The black shiny box mirrors the piano black shiny finish on these wooden salt and pepper mills. The box lid has the Cole and Mason logo in silver at the top with the words, ‘Salt and Pepper’, in English,French and German below a photo of the mills. The lid is hinged and braced with two ribbons so that it can be opened in a presentation style. The two mills are secured at a slight slope within a grey, flocked support with each mill held in place by a black, elasticated string. This means that when lifting the lid each mill is held neatly in place. These strings do not hold the mills tightly to the grey support so it is very easy to lift each mill out of the box. Inside the box lid is a little history about Cole and Mason in seven different languages. Attached the top of each mill is a small information booklet with a paragraph about Cole and Mason and their precision grinding system. The booklet is in four different languages. At the back are simple instructions on how to adjust the coarseness and open the grinding mill in order to refill it. A nice touch is that the peppermill has a black booklet and the salt mill has a white booklet. It is noted that salt should not be used in the peppermill as it causes corrosion. This carefully considered gift set presentation box does make for a very nice initial experience with the product, which is backed up by the quality of the mills within.Whilst the two mills look exactly the same, the top of the salt mill has the letter S on its stainless steel knob and the pepper has the letter P. Also, when looking at the underneath of each mill, the salt has a white (what looks like a vitrified ceramic) grinder and the pepper is a metal grinder. The salt grinder has a clear plastic adhesive sticker over its grinder that needs to be removed before first use. Each mill contained a small quantity of its appropriate content, salt crystals or black peppercorns. The stainless steel knob at the top of each grinder serves two purposes. One: it adjusts the gap on the grinder so that fine to coarse grinding can be achieved and, two: it can be removed so that the top can lift off and the mill can be refilled. The grinding action is very easy to achieve and effective. I never realised that Cole and Mason used such a simple precision grinding mechanism where the fineness of the grind can be adjusted by the top knob. This 120 mm mill size is extremely comfortable in my hand and I would say is the perfect size for my domestic kitchen. The weight of each mill is ideal, it's not too heavy and it's not too light. The shiny, piano black finish is very attractive and also easy to maintain and wipe clean. There is a stainless steel fixed washer between the top and base of the mill which punctuates the black with its silver line and as well serves the function of enabling the grinding action to be very smooth. On each mill there is a small, white Cole and Mason logo.I have owned many different salt and pepper grinders in the past, and several different Cole and Mason grinders but this size, colour and finish and ease of adjusting the coarseness of the grind make this pair of grinders the best I've ever had.

This Cole and Mason Precision Grind Salt and Pepper Mill Gift Set comes in a smart presentation box. Both the mills look and feel of really good quality and obviously the makers are confident too as they offer a lifetime warranty on the "Precision System" mechanism. The main bodies of the mills are stylishly made in black gloss lacquered wood with stainless steel trims and crowns which sport "S" and "P" markings to differentiate between their content, plus, in the box the tags attached to mills have white and black covers respectively. Both mills are pre-filled with salt or pepper, and to refill them you simply unscrew the crown. However, I did not see any instructions or maintenance advice in the box. Both grinders work really well. However, one thing I did notice that the mills (in particular the pepper one) work better when they are full or close to it - more product comes out per turn and the grind is a bit coarser. You can adjust the coarseness of the output by slackening the crown. In use there's no doubting that freshly milled salt and pepper are noticeably better than their pre-ground counterparts by a considerable margin. There's no doubt the quality of these Cole and Mason mills is really good and they'll probably last decades - the "probably" bit comes from me wondering how long the black lacquer will last as opposed to a natural wood finish but I am not suggesting there's any cause for concern at all now.Three things by way of feedback about this gift set. Firstly, I see that buying the two mills as a gift set costs over five pounds more than separately - if it's a gift it's worth paying for the box, otherwise, you'd be better off buying the mills individually. Secondly, the box and indeed markings on the mills do everything to suggest the mills are English but I suspect that is only true in terms of design - the mini booklet around each mill states "mill made in China". My gift box was delivered without a protective sleeve, and if I was actually paying the extra for the gift box I'd expect it to have a sleeve around it so it was presentable after tumbling around in the post. If something is being sold as a gift set and the box isn't presentable I could see there being more returns than necessary of what is actually a great product. Finally, some people might find instructions/care advice for the product useful - in my set there was nothing. In summary, these Cole and Mason Precision Grind Mills are quality products that would make an excellent gift and which, I suspect, will give a lifetime of service.

This Salt and Pepper grinder set is lovely. The presentation box is nice as well. It really feels like a exquisite set. I know it's a grinder set, however if you wish to give this as a gift to a loved one or for your kith or kin, then this would be ideal. I've always found Cole & Mason true to their brochures when it comes to the fact of their goods. They also honour the guarantee. This set has a lifetime guarantee on the grinding mechanism, you will most likely find that the wood will fall apart before the mechanism fails. Although, it is good to know they will replace it if it does. I have two other grinders from the same company and they have lasted me well.I have relegated them to the cupboard and now have these on the kitchen table. They look excellent with contemporary cutlery and if you have guests over they will surely notice these. I had a few guests examine them and ask where I purchased them from. When I showed them the presentation box; they were astonished that grinders came in such beautiful boxes. What I like with these grinders are the fact you can adjust the grind setting from fine to coarse, so it is ideal when cooking, I usually keep it in the middle as I know exactly the amount I need at this setting. The grinding mechanism is great it really grinds and it feels robust like my other Cole & Mason grinders. The salt uses a diamond-sharp ceramic mechanism, my previous was just ceramic. It seems to be better, but my previous set did not have adjustable grinding settings. But, overall they are great and look sophisticated for grinders. The Windsor black and the brushed steel detail adds that touch of distinction.Yes, I know it is only a salt & pepper grinder, but it does look pleasing and adds a touch of flair to your kitchen table. Others have positively commented on it, so that always bodes well on the workmanship.Highly recommended, they last long and work exceptionally well.

The Cole & Masson salt and pepper mills are stylish and superbly made products. They look good and fit easily into the hand. Grinding the pepper or salt is simple, controllable and reliable. You can adjust the grind, from coarse to fine, depending on your preference. They stand about 13cm tall and stand in a stable way on the dining table. The mechanism has a lifetime guarantee. Both mills are black with brushed stainless steel trim, and there is a clear S and P marked on the top of each mill to prevent confusion. The mills arrive already filled with peppercorns and sea salt, but refilling is easily done by simply unscrewing the lid.The salt and pepper mills arrive well packaged in a smart presentation box,and would make an excellent present.I have just one small criticism. On the exterior of the box, in several places, it says Cole & Mason, England, so it is very easy to assume that the product was made in England. However, in small print on the labels attached to each mill, it says ‘Mill Made in China’. For people who like to buy British or English made products, this is misleading, especially as there is no mention of China on the box.Despite this faux pas, the pair of Cole & Masson salt and pepper mills is an excellent product, which I highly recommend.

Beautiful quality as always from Cole & Mason. Presented in a gorgeous box these are a great gift for any occasion. They grind and adjust precisely as they should do, profiled with salt and pepper these are hassle free grinders that are finished in a great gloss black, almost a piano black finish. This is a little negative point if you have a guest (or yourself) that uses the grinders with slightly unclean or very greasy hands, they are then left with residue on them and if you're like me you'll be constantly cleaning them to keep them looking pristine. When it comes to grinding you also don't have to keep cranking them round and round to get a good amount out of them,I would go as far as saying that using these you are probably only having to grind 2/3 of what you normally do with a standard brand grinder, I guess this is because they are precision instruments and as soon as the discs / teeth crushing the salt and pepper is emptied it is instantly replenished with their technology. You certainly do get what you pay for!I would however have liked to see the actual grinders featured in the mini almost too small to read manual that is attached to each grinder but that is as nitpicky as I can get with them.

I have an old set of Cole & Mason mills, but recently (after 15 years of use) they have declined in milling ability, so great to get this new set.First impressions are very good. The gift box is lovely and really looks impressive when you open it up. This definitely enhances these mills if being given as a gift. The mills themselves are beautiful. The high-gloss coating looks really stylish (even my cynical teenage daughter said "wow, they look nice"), but does not make the mills slippery to hold. They look like they might be heavy, but actually are very light to pick up. They are easy to turn, and produce salt and pepper at just the right consistency (i.e., with a little "crunch" to it).Adjusting the fineness of the grind can be done easily by turning the top knob, but I found they worked great out of the box. By the way, they come pre-filled with salt and pepper, which is nice.According to the enclosed leaflet, these contain the latest "precision grind" technology from Cole & Mason. All I know is that they work beautifully and look gorgeous. I cannot find any fault - so 5 stars it is.

The salt and pepper mills come in a presentation box which is great if they are a gift. The two mills are largely made of wood with a outer black gloss finish. This gives an attractive look but unfortunately the gloss effect does attract some dust. The mills look and feel like a quality product. They are a good weight which make them easy to handle and hold. It is easy to identify which is the salt /pepper as they are marked with a 'S' and 'P' on the top of each mill. The set can be refilled easily by unscrewing the knob on the top of each mill and filling with peppercorns/salt granules. You can adjust the grinding mechanism by tightening/loosening the metal knob on the top of each mill. This produces a finer or more coarse salt/pepper, depending on your preference. The only downside of this set is that they are on the small side (holding just over two tablespoons of salt/peppercorns). For this reason they require regular refilling.

First up, I can't get over how well presented this item is. It comes in a gorgeous, glossy black box, which is perfect for giving as a gift (housewarming/wedding perhaps?) - when you open the box, the salt and pepper pots are secured in the packaging and easy to remove, and they're protected by a big layer of foam which also helps! The salt and pepper pots themselves are really pretty - lovely, glossy black wood (although the salt pot had a few little chips on the bottom, which was a bit disappointing), and lightweight to pick up! The button on the top has either an S or a P carved into the top which is a lovely touch! It comes prefilled with salt and pepper too, which is always a plus!Grinding is easy, too. It's smooth, and easy to use. I personally can't wait to use the pepper when I'm next making scrambled eggs! All in all, I love it - it's really fancy!

These mills are obviously high quality. Delivered in a nice looking presentation box (which went in the bin as I prefer my condiments on the table rather than in a soft lined box), they are of a very high gloss black finish and feel good in the hand. The grinding action is smooth and reliable and produces a regular size of grind. The mechanism is adjustable from coarse to very fine, and remains in the selected position. The technical specs state that the salt and pepper grinders work differently. The salt being crushed whilst the pepper is shaved. Apparently this gives a better taste to the pepper.I will have to take their word for the taste as I didn't notice a difference compared to my previous combined pepper mill and spice jar. Finally it is of note that the grinding mechanism is covered by a lifetime warranty.

Excellent little salt and pepper grinders from a top maker, beautifully presented in a fitted display box, so ideal as a housewarming or wedding present. Standing a little over four inches tall and two inches in diameter, the grinders are finished in high gloss 'piano' black, so are easily smart enough for your formal dining table. More importantly perhaps, the twist mechanism is robust and positive, producing a satisfyingly consistent grind. The grade of the grind can also be adjusted should you prefer it finer or coarser than factory set. I make my own sea salt and dried herb mix and the grinder copes with that very well indeed. The tops unscrew easily for re-filling and they hold plenty (and they come half-filled as well).Delighted with these and would heartily recommend as a quality product.

I am quite a fan of Cole and Mason, as I find the design of their products aesthetically pleasing as well as superbly made. I am an owner of a pepper mill and a pestle and mortar by the company, and find handling and using them a pleasure. The combination of salt and pepper mill is once again pleasing to the eye with the understated design and black colour which looks quite elegant and sleek as a pair on the dining table. They look understated, but are of obvious excellent quality. I have a sense that much goes into their design, and that time is taken up in getting things right for the discerning customer. I am not one for fancy packaging, but the box that these come in make them very suitable as a gift as well in how they are presented.I have no hesitation in giving this 5 stars.

This is an extremely stylish salt and pepper mill set. The glossy black finish is a style that would fit into most people's home decor, and the mills come packaged in an extremely attractive box with a hinged lid, so would make a great gift. The grinding mechanism is effective with metal components which should stand the test of time. It is easy to refill the mills by unscrewing the top; Cole and Mason have included some salt and pepper corns to get you started though which is a nice touch. The silver fittings at the top of each mill are labelled S and P respectively and there is the Cole and Mason brand name round the bottom of each.If you are in the market for a stylish salt and pepper mill set then I would recommend taking a close look at these.

I already own the larger versions of these which i really like. These are just the right size to keep at your dining table. These come in a great looking presentation box.The Grinders are gorgeous black lacquered finish. Although they look great they do attract dust & dirt. The Grinders are identical apart from a small S & P on the top. They come part-filledThe Salt grinder mechanism is CERAMIC not metal (which would corrode) or plastic (which wears quickly)The mechanisms also come with a lifetime warranty. Both grinders perform excellently. The only observation is that the salt grinder is perhaps too good.Salt falls like fine snow!Overall this is a great quality purchase & seems better value than the plan wooden ones

Taking a quick look, it is of course possible to purchase cheaper mills, even as gift sets, but I have to say that these do look lovely, and appear very high quality. They are made of wood, with a lovely black finish. There is a small chrome band, and the adjustment knob on the top is also chrome. They are very well packaged if you are buying as a gift, the build is very solid, and the style is classic, so they will be long lasting. In use, if you twist the knob at the top, there is a small difference in coarseness, and they dispense a good amount with each twist.Maybe a tough expensive if for your own use, but worth it as buying as a gift, as they are so well presented.

So this salt and pepper maker set is sold ina gift box, I'm not going to deny it seems a little over the top.Though this being said, the actual salt and pepper mills themselves are of a very high quality. The wood is very solid and they feel very well put together. You can also adjust the level of grind so you can decide how smooth or rough your pepper or salt is.All in all I was quite impressed by this but I just can't help but wondering why the box is so large. I'm not sure I'd give someone a pepper and salt mill set as a gift? Perhaps for a house warming? Though if you'd like nice, high quality salt and pepper mills, these are definitely worth considering.
