My first reaction to this beautifully presented set is that the mills look like Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum. They are squat, shiny and friendly, with acrylic, clear bodies and brushed metal tops. Each mill is palm-sized and comfortable to hold and to use.The mills come with part-filled with black peppercorns and coarse sea salt, and being see-through, it’s easy to know just how much salt or pepper you still have in hand. The top screw has the contents initial S or P. The mills are smoothly finished and very well made.Grinding mechanisms are carbon steel for peppercorns and ceramic for salt to prevent corrosion. Fill with coarse sea salt not rock salt or salt flakes and with peppercorns.Do not put salt in the pepper mill as it can cause corrosion. The grind can be adjusted between fine and coarse by how tightly you fasten the top screw. This needs to be reset each time the mill is filled because the screw has to be completely undone to remove the cap for filling. The mills have wide-necked opening for easy filling, which is far superior to the poky, narrow necks on some mills I have had. This pepper and salt mill set looks neat, sleek and compact for a small table. In a way, they are reminiscent of the old-fashioned, glass salt and pepper containers and have a hint of retro about them. That said, they also look and are eminently practical and visually pleasing.

The Cole & Mason Ascot 10cm Salt and Pepper Mill Set is a good quality brushed stainless steel topped condiment set supplied in a presentation box. While both mills had the letter P on top of the knob mechanisms I received (instead of the S and P I was expecting), the rock salt and peppercorns are obvious given the clear acrylic bodies. Since using the set I have found that the mechanisms grind consistently well without jamming. Although slightly smaller than previous salt and pepper mills I have owned, the C&M set is easy to refill and is also easy to wipe clean. In conclusion, the Ascot mill set is attractive, durable and functional suitable for daily use and, given its presentation, would also make a very acceptable gift.** In my particular circumstances, and having had the opportunity to note other reviews as well as product pictures, it appears that the set I received with the letter P on both mechanisms is not usual and if I were to be giving this set as a gift I would prefer the S and P usually found on salt and pepper mills. While I am delighted with the set I am deducting 1 star for this quality control oversight at the packing stage although I suppose you could always say that the P's indicate that both mills have C&M's Precision (TM) grinding mechanisms!! - . 4*

This is a review of the Cole & Mason Salt and Pepper gift set but each mill is also available separately on the same listing. This is a part of their precision range and come attractively packaged and would be suitable for own use or as a gift. They are compact dispensers suitable for table top use. One is for rock or sea salt and marked with an S on the top, and one is for whole peppercorns - marked with an P on the top. They are provided part filled with both salt and pepper and are easy to refill by unscrewing the lid at the top with a wide opening at the top. The mechanism has a lifetime guarantee which is reassuring with an offer to provide a replacement mill of equivalent value asmechanisms cannot be replaced according to the web site. The dispensers are made from sturdy acrylic with the silver top in contrasting stainless steel. The grinder is carbon steel for the pepper and ceramic for salt, to avoid corrosion. It is advised the salt dispenser is only suitable for sea salt and not rock salt or salt flakes. The grind can be adjusted between fine and coarse depending on how tightly you fasten the top screw. The tops fit flush on the base and look stylish with a premium feel in use. This is an attractive set if a little expensive.

This pair of Cole and Mason Ascot pepper and salt mills are excellent, among the best we have tried in more than fifty years of cooking and eating our own food. They feel comfortably durable. The only negative point is that they only hold half as much condiment as our taller old set.The knobs are tightened to reduce the granule size, as with all the C&M grinders. This can be seen when looking underneath at the milling mechanism, then slackening a previously tight knob while pushing it down and watching the clearance increase between the two essential parts. The pepper mill mechanism is metallic and the salt mill mechanism is white ceramic. The body parts in contact with the condiment are acrylic, and the shell over the top half of the body, the spindle down the centre and the knob on top are stainless. I can't be certain about the other bits of metal, and the pepper mill mechanism is supposed to be carbon steel (which will rust if wetted). However, our fifteen-year-old wooden C&M pepper and salt mills which use very similar mechanisms still work well in daily use, and are corrosion free - just the wood is splitting. I expect the plastic bodies of the Ascot mills will last longer.

A very pleasant cruet set that doesn't suffer from the usual over-tall designs but is rather 'big-enough'. Each has a small protrusion on the top indicating S or P, both of which undo revealing a screw thread and a removable stainless steel cover revealing the contents (they do arrive full of salt and pepper). Simply gripping the glass base and turning the stainless steel cover begins the grinding process and the newly ground products fall onto your plate. They look good enough to take centre stage on any dinner table , and easily administer the exact amount of salt or black pepper that you desire.I have struggled for a long time to find a cruet set exactly like this, finding instead novelty items or grinders that were simply far too big, but these are del and I expect them to grace my table for years to come. If like me you don't cover your food with salt and pepper, the larger designs very quickly end up with contents that need changing because 'the salt has lost its savour' - not so with these!A pleasant addition to any dinner table.

This matching pair of condiment grinders from Cole & Mason promises superior grinding! One is for rock or sea salt with an S on the top, and one is for peppercorns - with a P on the top.The containers themselves are not glass but sturdy acrylic and are branded on the base with the word Cole & Mason. The top is brushed stainless steel (I think). The mechanism inside is carbon steel for the pepper and ceramic for the salt, so there will be no danger of corrosion. As with most salt and pepper grinders, you simply unscrew the lid at the top, take off the metal top and add your salt or peppercorns into the chamber. The paper grinder gives a fairly coarse grind – I don't think there is any way of altering the setting. The salt grinder is only suitable for coarse salt such as rock salt or sea salt. These are nice quality and look nice on the table. They come attractively packaged and would make a nice gift.

I got this set for my son and his girlfriend who had recently moved in together, and having owned my own set of Cole and Mason grinders for over three years, knew that they would be quality items. They arrive nicely package - very suitable for giving as a gift. This particular set is quite small - I have posted a photo with the grinders placed next to a can of pop to illustrate their small size. Each of the grinders come partially filled, and to refill, you simply unscrew the satin finished stainless steel lid. The coarseness of the salt and pepper can be controlled too. If you require a fine dispense then screw down the lid tightly; if you prefer a coarser result, then loosen the lid before you grind. All in all,a good looking and well constructed set of mills. Recommended.

A quality pair of very nice looking mills for your table, as a center piece or a daily condiment these fit in well. Stylish and not too large ( they fit into the palm of the hand ).Filling and handling is good, my two points of gripe were upon arrival one had it's protective base label missing - so the salt had gone a little cloudy - and then replacing the salt I had to make sure I bought quite large crystals as the smaller crystals I had were just a little too fine and we ended up with salt coming through the mechanism every time they were moved - which was a niggle, but worth noting, as we had a lot of smaller crystal salt but it was not large enough for this mill (3-4mm + crystals work best).Functional, stylish and very suitable for any table.

It appears that a lot of thought has gone into the design of these attractive, Salt and Pepper grinders/dispensers. The brushed metal top oozes quality, whereas the acrylic body is contoured for style and grip and also around the right size for an adult's hand to wrap itself around. Refilling the chambers with sea salt or peppercorns is very easy, as the small "S" and "P" caps simply screw off which allows the tops to be removed, revealing a large opening into the chamber which makes refilling them simple, with not much chance of any spills. It's an ideal mix of aesthetics and functionality; the kind of condiment dispensers that most families would be very happy to have adorning their dinner tables for many years to come.Excellent.

Good products, looks very elegant, good quality glass, has some weight to it. After the great design that looks great on any dinner party table, the blades of the grinder are good as well. The salt and pepper gets finely ground which I love as I can control much better the quantity that gets added on my food. The two didn't come fully filled, but was just right to be able to spot the clarity of the glass, quality of the finishes and smooth grind. The silver caps on it are stain and fingerprint proof which is good as not always your hands are clean when handling it. The whole mechanism has a good grip and is easy to handle. These are easy to refill and they come very nicely packed in a little box that makes it perfect for a gift.

This is a really lovely salt and pepper mill set from Cole and Mason - which has two short and squat mills with their corresponding S or P on the top, but which can easily be distinguished even from afar as the transparent bodies of each mill allow you to see the salt or pepper within.Although very similar from the outside (apart from the S and P on the top) there is a difference between the mills - the pepper fill has a carbon steel grind mechanism and the salt has a certamic grind mechanism, which is important to prevent corrosion. The mills are easy to grind, adjust and refill and look lovely on the table or in the kitchen, without being overbearingly large. Sweet, elegant and immensely practical.

Cole & Mason have been our preferred make of salt and pepper mills for many years, and after a recent accident with our existing set (involving a clumsy child knocking the pepper mill onto the floor, and then an unobservant adult stepping on it in booted feet), we needed a new set. This Cole & Mason set is not very tall, but looks very elegant and well-presented, and looks very good on the table. The grinding/milling mechanisms are smooth, and this latest set reinforces our opinion that Cole & Mason are really as good as it gets. Good for own use, or good for a gift -- definitely the best salt and pepper mills around. Five stars.

This pair of Salt and Pepper Mills from the Cole & Mason Brand are an attractive, unflashy, but subtly stylish set that would grace any dining table. I use them at mealtime, and have other salt and pepper mills that I use for cooking. The salt and pepper mills are low-rise, and not high-capacity, but I don't mind this, because it means that the contents get regularly replenished. The grinding mechanism is efficient and doesn't jam up, and I can quite heartily recommend them to those who want a salt / pepper mill that works efficiently, don't cost the earth, but have a good build standard and will hang around for a goodly while.

The Ascot set is the second set I've had from Cole and Mason and I'm very happy with them. I just love the curvy shape to this set - it looks more expensive although I have noticed scratching to the metal tops. The distortion due to the curve does make it a little harder to see how many granules are left too but overall they do their job really well and easy to adjust and refill. With my older C&M set it came with a little stand for them to sit in which I preferred as if it touches anything damp on a table etc it can easily clog up but relatively easy to clean. Overall I would definitely recommen the set.

This is a chunky little salt and pepper set, well made which is to be expected of Cole & Mason who do produce really good quality mills. The tops are brushed steel with S and P clearly marked, and filled with salt and black pepper. These are manual and do work very well – the little knobs on the tops can be turned to alter the coarseness; the mechanism works smoothly and efficiently, and so far hasn't jammed. The clear acrylic bodies are easy to wipe clean.Packaged in a presentation box they would make a good little house-warming, or wedding gift, but I do find the price a little high.
