Cole & Mason are a respected brand in delivering stylish and effective cruet so you know the brand will mean high quality, and believe me, you get top notch quality and engineering here. This multitasker can deal with both pepper and salt, the former of which is delivered more flavoursome peeled so I presume that the salt here will end up shaved rather than cracked or pulverised? However this also means you can create your own seasonings with flavoured salt with spices, chillis or herbs too as the grinder will deal with anything and the degree of fine- coarse can be adjusted.Anyway whatever you fill this with it has the same user instructions, simply tip and hold over your food and the tipping action activates the electronic grinder to dispense your seasoning. We as a family don't do added salt at the table, we tend to season to our palate/needs in the cooking process but our tastebuds as a family have certainly changed since we cut back on the salt when weaning my first daughter, whilst we still use salt it's just a lot less than before and we don't tend to place cruet on the table to promote good health habits to our children but I'm acutely aware that can be considered weird when guests are visiting! I can also understand that people who salt their cooking AND again at the table out of habit might find our seasoning lacking that salinity they are used to, this is a much nicer piece to offer than a pinch pot of flaked salt that some find off putting and this can deliver a texture more akin to table salt if that's what people prefer. This offers a solution that's the best of both worlds, the tidy upright design means the salt stays away from dribbling all over the counter after each grind and I have something stylish to offer guests who want a hit of salt to their food. It's also great for people with arthritis, motor issues or disabilities as its one handed tip operation, not requiring two hands or a twisting motion which is great to know.

Once I got the mill operating I find it is a great addition to my kitchen essentials. I found the instructions on fitting the batteries to be inadequate. When all batteries were installed I was holding it upturned as I thought. It took me a minute or two to realise that the mill switched itself on when it was upturned and switched off when you turned it upright and there was no actual on/off switch and this was not explained in the instructions. Therefore some people may think they broke the mill before even getting started. All's well that ends well and I love the mill. I find it great to use for every recipe that requires you to stir in some pepper because your pepper mill grinds away automatically leaving you a free hand to stir. It's a great idea for someone who has only the use of one arm and also some manual pepper mills are quite difficult to twist. The mill does grind the peppercorns very evenly and doesn't leave some grams bigger than others and you get that result so often with manually grinding the corns. The design is simple though stylish. Ground black pepper is required in almost all savoury recipes I refer to and I was always buying those throw away manually operated mills but I will never go back to using them again.I am so enamoured with this mill I would highly recommend it as a "must buy" item. The container which holds the peppercorns holds a jar and a half of the regular jar which I buy in the supermarket and it seems to last forever. I have recommended it to my friends and family too.

This is just fantastic.1st of all, it looks classy, expensive and sophisticated and anyone even professional chefs should be happy to have it in their kitchen. Its quite heavy, but i personally like that. Wont easily tip over. The majority of the unit is taken up by the battery compartment which is the bottom part, there is a lock/unlock symbol on the top on the unit and you just twist the top to the unlock position and lift up, Inside you will see 2 spring release clips and you press those in and the battery compartment will come out. Here you will need to fit 6 batteries, these are not included in the box.Once thats done put your top back together, fill the chamber with salt or peppercorns and away you go.Just a tip, i never fill my chamber more than 3/4 full.Another thing i really like is that its not super fast, its quite slow to dispense the grind and thats because its taking its time and grinding it properly, i like this a lot, instead of holding a button and it all comes shooting out, you can just tip it up for 10 seconds or more to get a good size amount.I really like the fact that the grinder is on the top of the unit because this means that i have less salt floating around on my table. I love it so much i am going to start saving up for another one.Highly recommended.

Do you need this? Absolutely not. There are lots of types of condiment grinders, many of them a lot cheaper.Having said that, this is a lovely item, and even if you don't need it, you might well want it. It's stylish and impressive looking, a conversation piece at your dinner party, and it does the job very well. You simply turn it upside down and it begins to grind, not so slowly as to be an annoyance, but slowly enough that you don't get more pepper (or salt, if that's what you put in it) than you wanted.A couple of discretely placed LEDs add to the 'bells and whistles' effect. It requires 6AAA batteries (not provided). Opening it for the first time (to put in the pepper)was extremely difficult - it was so stiff that I seriously wondered if I'd been send a defective non-opening one. But after the bit of brute force required at that point, it's been easy enough to open and close since.I like it a lot. It's not exactly inexpensive, so whether you agree with my five-star review will probably come down to whether you're happy to pay this price for - let's be honest - such an inessential item.

Wonderful: who knew that a grinder could be such a welcome addition to the home? This is a great product overall. It looks sleek and fits in well with the more modern kitchen. It can be used for either salt or pepper, but, and this the clincher: it can be used for herbs and spices also . The amazing thing about it is that you don’t have to twist or struggle to gribs, simply one touch is sufficient. This is particularly helpful for me as I have arthritis in my hands and can struggle at times. I also found it easy to fill, which was an added bonus.I am really grateful to have received this free as I would think that most people would struggle to justify the fifty pounds cost of a grinder.I do appreciate that this is a trusted brand but this is a real luxury. Really great though

The sort of thing that makes an excellent gift - a luxury you never knew you needed - this is something I'd have honestly never picked up for myself and now I'm probably going to buy everyone one. After a quick setup, you simply turn it upside down and rain pepper down on whatever you're making. Prepare to increase your pepper consumption, if like me, your chosen amount of seasoning was dictating by how long you could be bothered with an inefficient grinder. It is a bit large and a bit heavy, and that it takes 6 batteries is preposterous, but it does solve a genuine problem, especially for those with grip issues. You get what you want without any of the effort.Brilliant. Expensive, yes,but a true luxury.

This is a eyecatching piece of tableware and everyone, whether or not they feel their dish needs seasoning, wants to use it.It stands about 8” tall and comes in a nice presentation box.It will need six, yes 6, triple A batteries, they are not provided. You can use rock salt or pepper in the mill and you can change the grinding from fine to more coarse. It is easy to remove the base to put in the batteries and to remove the top to put in the salt/pepper but do read the instructions. After that, to use it, pick it up and turn it upside down over your cooking, it stops when you turn it back round again. That simple. This would make a lovely wedding gift or just a present as it will be used.

This Cole & Mason mill comes beautifully packaged, is solid and looks smart. The 6 AAA batteries are not supplied with the product but are easy to insert at the base of the mill. Add the rock salt or peppercorns at the top and invert to get the required seasoning. There is an adjuster for coarser or finer seasoning. I did adjust this but did not see much variance in the end product. The greatest advantage of an electronic grinder, as opposed to a hand grinder, is that there is no salt or pepper deposit from the base of the mill after use.Nevertheless, this grinder is solid, has a luxurious feel and should last for many years to come.

This is a beautifully made and nicely weighted grinder. An absolute breeze to use - simply turn it upside down and the pepper comes out automatically - it detects which way up it is and the motor comes on without having to press a button. A very intuitive way of using a grinder. It grinds extremely well, and the size of the grounds is adjustable fro fine to course. A fantastic grinder - no way I'd ever go back to using a manual one. Absolutely nothing negative I can say about this. It just works.

This is a very elegant grinder - looks fabulous as table wear. The unit is battery powered - so no effort required for grinding. This could be a real bonus for people with arthritis or carpal tunnel syndrome.I have used Cole and Mason grinders before and they last for years - so I would suspect that this grinder will be durable too.A tad pricey but it looks so great it’s woeth it - now to save for a companion piece.Highly recommended product.

This is a marvellous gimmick. It really does work well. It is sturdy and well made. It is very easy to use though some might find it to be a little noisy.I know for most people it might be expensive and perhaps frivolous but for people with arthritis or other issues might well find it to be good value for money.

This is a big and powerful salt or pepper mill, which activates just by turning it over. It takes six AAA batteries to run, which are not included. While certainly a thing of beauty, it would still be hard to justify spending £50 on this, especially if you want one for salt and one for pepper.

I previously reviewed my previous salt and pepper mills with the complaint that with the batteries mounted in the top they were unstable. These grind the salt and pepper just as well as my previous mills and with the batteries in the base are more stable.
