This is a good robust little engine that navigates the track quite well (sometimes better pulling other carriages). It is nice that it gets stuck on the wooden track sometimes as it means more involvement from my daughter. We find it most fun to help build tracks that the engine doesn't get stuck in a loop, so we have to rebuild sections so the whole track gets used. It does well up hills for bridges etc. More robust that cheaper ones.Battery doesn't last long - a day with fairly constant use so get well stocked up when your child first gets this engine. But we are happy with it.

My two year old grandson loved this train - was amazed it could travel all by itself! The only thing I hadn't thought of was that being two way meant that the button to operate it is a little difficult for him to switch off as if you push the button all the way it goes to reverse. I would probably have been better to buy the forward only one until he's older.

Pulls steadily and a little slower than we expected (e.g. compared to a VTech TootToot train), but it will manage a couple of carriages and over a hump bridge- if the batteries aren't low!Looks the part and our little one likes watching the light come through a tunnel. Recommended.

Lovely little engine. Works two-way as described via switch on top, and goes well with rest of Brio train products, with magnet to attach to other trucks to pull along track. Amazon's delivery to local Co-op Amazon's locker system worked very well, once again.

Grandson loved it and was taking it home to Australia. They are so much more expensive out there. They have a whole train set out there but this was a better engine and easier to turn off that the ones they have got.

This is a terrific addition to any little wooden train set. It pulls the carriages easily and has a functioning light on the front. My daughter is thrilled with it and the train set is getting much more mileage now.

Our brio yellow and red battery powered engine was retrieved from the loft after 15 years by granny; she had left a battery in by mistake and it still worked! May be a little slower but still, it's a veteran....

Great train, batteries don't seem to last that long in it tho. Bought Duracell batteries and it still drains them very quickly. Otherwise a great train for hours of entertainment for my three year old son!

Biro two way battery engine it pulls very good even over bridges. battery not last to long but it is only a single triple AAA so to be expected and they are quite inexpensive xxxxxxx.

A lovely solid train that my grandson loved. It goes forward and reverses it has a little light on the front and on Christmas day went nearly all day on only one battery.

Engine works very well and it is easy to use. However the battery goes extremely quickly which means that I have to replace it every couple of days of play.

Our 4yr old loved it! He's nuts about Brio trains anyway, so one that moves by itself completely blew his mind! Simple to use, only one battery, excellent.

The quality is very good. It runs quite slow...then I realised that, by having only one AAA battery, you can't expect much. Now I know for the next one.

Great train, I would have liked it to go a little quicker, and pull more than two carriages but it goes up slopes and four year old Son is very happy.

My Grand Son didn't have an engine to pull his train so I got him this.He fell in love with it and insisted on taking it to bed that night with him.
