The Bigjigs Mallard train is a wooden railway reproduction of the legendary Mallard. Mallard is of course still the holder of the speed record for steam engines so this is a worthy classic engine to add to a wooden railway collection. It model comes with the long engine and its tender. It is quite a sleak model and good for long straights. Mallard handles a little less well round corners because of its length and because of its wheelbase. The wheelbase is a little bit of a disappiontment. In order to replicate the design of the original Mallard, Bigjigs has constructed its replica with the two small front wheels dangling above the track. This is a strange decision and makes Malalrd look uglier than it should as well as handle worse. The colour is also wrong. The light blue is a completely different shade to the original's livery.Despite the failings it is great to have an engine like Mallard as part of a small person's wooden railway collection. An opportunity to wax nostalgic about the era of steam and its fastest ever engine. The toy is a good size for small hands and a bit of an additional challenge for a small person to think about when racing around a wooden track.Durability has so far been good. No damage at all in over a year's worth of play.Mallard is not perfect but the Bigjigs Heritage Collection has done well by including this great engine in its set.

My son is three years old and, thanks to his Grandpa, he adores trains and probably knows more about them than I ever will! He was pestering us for weeks that he wanted a Mallard, so you can imagine his surprise when Santa Clause had left him one under the tree at Christmas. It put all of his other (and much more expensive) toys to shame. He plays with it every single day, without fail. This and his wooden Flying Scotsman were worth every single penny.

one of my grandchildren saw an item on TV about the 75th anniversary of the Mallard's record breaking run down the East Coast main line in 1938. I thought he'd enjoy having the Mallard as part of his Big Jig collection and I was right, he's been boring visitors and friends ever since about the Mallard, so I have to give 100% for educational value.

Bought for a 3 year old boy after visiting the York Railway Museum. His first reaction was that Mallard has no face (unlike the rest of his Thomas collection!)Minor gripe in that the small black piece at the rear of the tender broke off after a short drop but it has glued back on OK.Current favourite engine along with The Duchess of Hamilton.

The product is as described and is giving endless pleasure to a 3yr old. It is well constructed and survives all the treatment that it has been subjected to by a 3yr old boy. The company was prompt with delivery and I found ordering it from them hassle free. I would both recommend the company and the product.

We love the Mallard and this was very well received by my nearly 5 year old son. He recognised the train immediately, the finish is very good as you would expect from Bigjigs. The bogie and coupling on the loco are moveable, giving that real steam train feel. The set comes with some track and a buffer too.

My 3 year old son adores trains and after a visit to the York railway museum last year he was desperate for his own Mallard. It's not the right colour as the real ones, more of a blue than turquoise, but it's a nice chunky piece that I'm sure will stand the test of time.

I was delighted with the quality of this superb toy. It is a perfect complement for Brio track and a great joy for my grandson to use. The delivery was very prompt and the price very reasonable. The inclusion of a track length and a buffer came as a great surprise.

My 6 year old son is very pleased with his Mallard Engine. He has some of the other Bigjigs heritage engines and specifically asked for the Mallard. It's good quality and good value for money.

This is a really nice train and tender. It fits my son's brio set perfectly, it's a lovely blue and 6 months of hard abuse looks good as new.Recommended for any little train fan. Great price

This is a fantastic product. Much bigger than I expected and very sturdy. The fact also that it fits all/most wooden tracks is fantastic. Looking to order a different model for my grandson.
