Buoyed no doubt by the success of GBBO, Barbie is back in the kitchen making fashionable cupcakes and pound cake (although my daughter pretends its bread too). The fact this set includes furniture, accessories and a doll is impressive and a big change considering what has been on the market a few years ago,It's also great that the accessories are well thought out with a story or process to them- mix, bake, decorate rather than a random jumble of bits. I like the balance between play prompts and the openness for imagination, especially as the cupcakes don't have to be iced, you don't have to use the sponge etc.The disappointing part of the package is the doll, she's a classic Blonde haired blue eyed, tanned Barbie but that's not the issue. The problem is the 1990s style one arm bent one arm straight doll albeit on a more modern body. A measly 5 points of articulation is also disappointing considering the move towards 11 as standard in some competing ranges with up to 14 in premium ones, and indeed The Barbie range makes some of these highly articulated dollies, just not in sets like these. Cost is a factor but the restricted range of movement makes the play stilted when getting Barbie to use the accessories.Furthermore her outfit is a let down; a tight tshirt and mini skirt. I'm not expecting a ball gown or gender-bending Barbie (though the latter would make me sit up and pay attention) but something a bit more conducive to bending in front of a hot oven? Trousers maybe, at least something she won't burn herself wearing or be knicker flashing in, especially with her only able to bend at the hips!So my daughter adores this set, there's so much play value as she loves Bake off she can now act it out. I must note that she likes the doll because it's Barbie but she was immediately stripped and dressed in a ball gown and Batgirls hoody (what can I say) and Cerise Hood from Ever After High was doing the bake off with Princess Tiana instead.

Sure to be Star Baker of the week, Barbie gets her apron on and is ready to whip up a confection of delicious cupcakes. She has all the kitchen kit required. This is attached to the backboard of the presentation pack so securely restrained that it takes a lot of snipping and pulling to make it available. You have to twist the oven to get it out without spoiling the kitchen design decor. The oven opens with a loaf cake risen and browned inside, ready to take out. The mixing bowl, icing bag and cake mix box can be fitted into the pink worktop. There is another baking tray with six buns that can pop up if you press them from underneath. The timer can be set and it pings. Some small bits of equipment could be a choking hazard to babies.,so keep out of the way of smaller siblings.Baking Barbie has her arms permanently bent at an angle that is half greeting, but it looks odd. She cannot stand alone in her trainers. A fun set for a little cook to enjoy.

oK, so its barbie. She's blonde and unrealistic but little girls still lover her. This barbie is baking in the kitchen, cue much shouting by me about gender stereotypes. Then I remember how much my niece loves to bake. And how much she likes to play make believe with her dolls. And how much, despite me trying to steer her well away, she loves Barbie. So, I relent and give her this set, reminding her all the time that boys can bake too, and that real girls don't look like Barbie. She loves it, the pop up cakes, the icing, all this combines to keep her fairly quiet and very happy for many hours. Even with me harping on about looking how you want, wearing what you're comfortable in...she managed to ignore me for most of the time, only occasionally piping up to tell me that she KNOWS Barbie is fake but she's just playing make believe so thats OK! Hmmm. So, I hate it, but the kid loves it, so I guess thats a win.

This is one of the Career Barbie playsets, which sees Barbie farming, becoming a doctor, astronaut, vet, or baker, among various options. Much of the excitement of this set comes with the accessories, as you do not only get a Barbie doll, but an oven, plus lots of little accessories – piping bag, mixing bowl, spoon, spatula, oven glove, tray of cakes, pound cake in tray, and a box of pretend cake mix.The oven ‘works’ as, you put in the cakes, or pound cake, turn the switch and, as it beeps to show it is done, the cakes seem to rise. There is a small indentation in the worktop, where the piping bag can sit and you can put water in this. Wet the piping bag, and gently run this over the cakes, and it reveals what seems to be decorations. Lots of fun, even if this is something of a basic Barbie doll, with a ‘fixed’ arm and rather unexciting outfit.

The set includes:Barbie herself in a very cute trendy baker outfit. An oven with countertop.Baking accessories include Mixing Bowl, Box of Cake Mix, Piping Nozzle, Spoon, a set of cupcakes and a cake in their own trays. The oven is play-functional. You can open the door and place the cake or cupcakes inside the oven. When you close the door, you turn the oven door nozzle to the right, the cake/cupcakes pop up and the oven dings. The cupcakes have changeable icing also. On the countertop there is a built-in hole for water. When water is added, take the blue piping nozzle and dip in water then rub it over each of the cupcakes and the icing changes to show finished cupcakes. This is a wonderful Barbieset that will offer lots of fun and enjoyment and is good value for money and would make a perfect gift.

If your little girl is into Barbies and baking then this is the Barbie for her! Thankfully the Barbie Careers range has a bit more ambition than just being a Baker or a running a Pet Parlour (which are the only other examples on the back of the pack) - there are doctors, vets, farmers, bee keepers, nurses, teachers, astronauts and scientists to name but a few. This Baker Barbie comes with a oven, a cupcake tray, mixing bowl, piping bag, spatula and mixing spoon, oven glove and cupcake mix box. The oven has a cool feature where the bread rises if you turn a knob on the front. The oven door opens and the icing on the cupcakes appears if you wet them with the sponge on the piping bag.So great for kids to pretend that Barbie is in the Bake Off final!

This is a good little play set, that features a Barbie doll in casual clothes and includes an oven with 'ding' sound to show the contents are ready; a loaf style cake in a tin and a tray of six muffins/cupcakes; a spatula; a mixing spoon; a mixing bowl; an oven mitt; and a piping bag. When put in the oven and the dial on the front is turned, the cupcakes and loaf cake both rise. It's nice that this is a mechanical feature and doesn't require any batteries. Another good, battery free feature is that the cupcakes can be 'decorated'. If you fill a little well on the top of the oven, then dip the end of the piping bag in,you can use the wet end of the piping bag to reveal hidden decorations on the top of the cupcakes.

My daughter loves this Barbie! The oven has a tray of cupcakes and another tray with a cake to put in the over and both can be pushed up to imitate them rising in the oven. There’s an oven glove, bowl, cake mix, spatula and an icing bag. If you fill the icing bag with water and ‘spread’ it on the cupcakes the tops change colour to look like frosting, when the water dries you can do it all again. Each item also has its own ‘storage’ space – one tray in the oven and the other fits into a shelf under the oven. There’s holes in the top too so that the bowl etc. can be fixed in so it’s much easier keeping all the bits together when it's not being played with.

Over to my 12 year old Barbie expert for this one...At first I didn't think this was much different than any other barbie set, but it was so amazing when I realised that the oven actually works. Well...not actually "works" but you know what I mean. It is really clever how it make the cakes pop up like they had been baked. I also love how you can ice the cupcakes. You just add water to the sponge on the icing bag and then put it on the cupcakes and it looks like you iced them! They all have cute little patterns of icing on them, with all different flavours. It's so cool. The doll is pretty and her clothes are cute too. Lots of play value in this.

This is definitely not the Barbie I remember from years ago, as this one has a permanently bent left arm and straight right arm. I'm not sure what the purpose is! However this is a really fun set that little girls particularly are going to love. The little cup cakes or big cake go in the oven which pings! the cakes "rise" and can be decorated with water from the piping bag - to dry and be decorated again next time! This is really great idea for children while a parent is baking for real. Barbie looks amazing (as usual...) in a cup cake top and pinny - and micro skirt ...it's probably not PC to love Barbie, but maybe Ken can appear and help her.

Barbie can do just about everything and obviously she is a great cook, babysitter, nurse, and singer. In this set you get an oven with magical fun: the timer dings, the door works, the cakes "rise" and the tops of the cupcakes have color-change icing! Additional accessories include; a mixing bowl and spoon, a box of cake mix, a spatula, and an oven mitt that fits Barbie doll's hand! The Barbie has no movements at the elbow and knee with a straight right arm and a bent left arm. She is your typical blond hair, blue eyes, and pink lips Barbie.Just add imagination.Great value for only £17.

Barbie, a classic toy that just never got old. She got more stylish with the years and far more relevant than she was. This latest set is no different and comes together with a heap of accessories for her new career. Ours is currently sat in her new little home in the gigantic house she now lives in, complete with career themed rooms. As always, Barbie is beautifully made with brushable hair. She is very colourful and petitely proportioned. Perfect for any little girl wanting to play dollies.

My daughter likes this. Put bread or cupcakes in the oven, twist a knob on the front of the cooker and the bread or cupcakes rise. Regarding the latter, wet the end of the icing bag and rub it over the top of the cupcakes and they change colour (a lot easier than icing them for real). When they dry out, you can do it again.Various accessories are supplied e.g. a mixing bowl, spoon and oven gloves.Price at time of review: £20.99 which seems reasonable. It’s a good little set.

My niece loves Barbie and loves cooking, so this playset is perfect. The quality of the set isn't spectacular but sufficient. I (and my niece) particularly like the way the oven "bakes" the cakes with an ingenious mechanism to raise them up. The cupcakes also have a smart way of revealing decoration when water is added. Once dried, they go blank again. There's nothing not to like with this set, and I would recommend this to Barbie fans!
