I had a need to connect 3 webcams to a single computer. The cameras are ceiling mounted with a plenum space above. This unit does a great job making the cameras available to the computer. However, on a regular basis I have needed to power off the remote unit when it and the computer stop talking. This could be a problem if, like my situation the unit is not conveniently located.I solved the power off/on option by putting a remote wireless power switch (the kind commonly used with Christmas lights) with the unit in the plenum space. When it loses connection I can cycle the power without getting out a ladder.Overall this unit solved a real problem for a very important conference room project. We have only used it for a total of 6-7 hours, but it feels solid and professionally designed and built.

Just wanted to take few minutes and write this. This actually works. I have tried many others that do advertise these options, but that is bunch of crap. They do not work. 160-200 Feet works like a charm. Over CAT6. It is a little pricy but It is worth it. Before you buy anything else, give this product a chance. It just works! This is what I tried before I got to this:Only Mouse & Keyboard works, and a webcam (video only) if you are lucky.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00K5IHYG0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00Mouse and Keyboard only.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GQRZSMG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00Mousehttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00FZHUU6M?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00

Finally! I went through three different extenders like this. One which stated USB 2.0 and wasn't, and one that just didn't work (IO Gear one).I'm using this to remotely control my telescope from inside over 100ft of Cat6. The previous ones would only allow me to intermittently connect to my telescope mount and camera. I was riddled with errors on my laptop. I plugged this one in and BOOM, worked flawlessly. This kit is heavy and feels like quality.Little rubber pads come provided, and are a nice addition. If you're looking for something that works, skip the junk and get this one. Twice the price, pay once. Worth it in my opinion. I will be looking to Star Tech for any future purchases.

I am using this in our company's conference room to connect a PC that is in a closet to a Logitech webcam that is sitting above a widescreen monitor using a CAT6 cable that is about 40ft long. It works very well so far. I recommend it.Setup is easy with no configuration required:- Plug in the power supply to the "Home" unit (no power needed at remote unit).- Attach USB cable from the "Home" unit to PC.- Attach CAT6 cable from "home" unit to "Remote" unit.- Plug in whatever USB device you want to "Remote" unit.- PC discovers USB device.Remote unit has 2 USB ports but I am only using 1. So I don't know if using both ports changes anything.

The main purpose for buying this USB extender was to have my Topping D90-MQA USB DAC directly attached to Roon server which is in different room, much further than what 10m USB cable would allow. When attached as ASIO device it works flawlessly (when attached as WASAPI device, which I tried first, it does not work reliably). There were no connection nor signal issues perceived so far. Tested with various PCM, MQA (both decode and render), and hi-def DSD up to DSD256 formats, all working without issues.I have also tested with Logitech HD web cam and keyboard and mouse, all seem to be working ok.

Worked right out of the box.I've connected both units, remote and local, with a 25 meter cat6 network cable and that was all. No problems at all.I have a CCD - astronomical camera (very demanding in bandwidth) and two other usb to serial devices and up to now (working more than a month) everything works like a charm.Just be careful to not connect it to a router, switch or any other networking device - Both units must be connected with a network cable (cat5e or cat6), alone / separately from any network !

We had tried several other USB Extenders for Cat X from a control room to an on-air room, but they were spotty in connectivity and difficult to set up quickly. The StarTech works very well, with the indicator LEDs displaying the connectivity and status. We use this device for an annotation touch screen, a PowerPoint presentation remote, and occaisionally, for a keyboard and mouse. It works very well.

This product works flawlessly. Used it on a boat to go from the Doghouse two levels down to a box in the mast and it worked with no issues over a standard CAT 6 cable. if you need to have a device with power only locally and no remote power you need to use the 2 or the 4 port version the 1 port version needs power at both ends.

We have tried most of the USB extenders on the market today and this one by far is the best unit out there. We run long distances using Mac Mini's and Samsung touch overlays and have seen no issues when using the StarTach product. A little pricey but as we all know you pay for what you get. Highly recommend.

These little power houses deliver everything you come to expect from the Startech name. I have used the 1/2/4 port systems and they all work first time flawlessly with no issues. I would recommend Startech products for any application hands down it is hard to find their equal.

28.10.2012

I love all the little StarTech box's. This one is no exception. It does exactly what it says it will. It is extremely easy to set up, just plug it in and away you go. The instruction manual is a little lacking, but being as plug and play as this it is okay.

Used to extend laptop to telescope mount/focuser/camera/guider controls with 15m CAT6 cable. Works perfectly connecting the 4 devices in Windows 10 on a Mac using Parallels as a virtual machine.

I use this for a telescope in an observatory building. The standard USB cable was not working as it was too long. This thing did the trick. Works like a charm!!

Worth the money. Extended a scanner 10 metres with no issue and even shared with a label maker. Non powered products would not work where this did

These are built very well and for those that like Gefen you will appreciate the quality of the build on these. Working beautifully at 300 feet.
