If you loved the N64 version of 1080 you are going to go ape over this! The best snowboarding game on any format!! The graphics are mindblowing. They are beautifully realised... snow sticks to your clothes as you fall and the wind whips your jacket into a frenzy. Obstacles like trees, skiers and wildlife abound on the slopes and the snow just looks like..erm..snow.I have not seen a snow based game that looks so believable! The game handles like the original and so old hands will soon be at home. The only difference being the balance gauge that appears when you clip an obstacle. Frantically spin the control stick to stay on your feet..a little tricky at first but becomes second nature.1080:Avalancheis a speed demon and you will sometimes wonder how you managed to get down the courses in one piece. It makes your eyes water. The impression of speed is enhanced by a motion blur effect that really does make you feel as though you are one travelling..erm..dude. There is the appearance of the minutest, tiniest hint of slowdown on certain tracks but with so much detail beng thrown about it makes it very, very negligible. Not a problem at all and I only mention it because some people like to know these things. The tracks are gobsmacking, much better than in the previous game and the cry of "What the F***" springs to mind as you hurtle over precipices and down ravines. There are loads of options: Match Race..a one on one against the computer, Time trial..pretty much self explanatory but this as the added bonus of coins to collect that if successful in aquiring them all,(no easy feat for my lacking skills) will unlock extras ie boards and such, Gate Challenge...pass through gates against the clock, Trick Attack..perform tricks to earn points,(the air make and halfpipe courses are back with a twist along with a new one called terrain park..a trick fest location!)Split screen multiplayer and lan are also catered for.Music is the obligatory Rock anthem stuff but is quite suited to the frantic racing. Now on to the avalanches of the title..awesome!! The scariest thing i've played in a video game. Hurtling down a mountain after jumping from an helicopter(I kid yea not!)to have the thunder of a low flying jet set off a torrent of boulders and racing snow after your ass!Sheer adrenalin rush..erm..dude. It sounds amazing through a surround sound system!Go press the add to basket button and get yourself some of it..I guarantee you will not be disappointed..erm..dude!

What a game.I used to own the N64 1080' and I love that game. While it had only a few maps and game modes, it had that real pick up and play and carry on playing all night appeal. This version also has this, but improves on everything that was set before with its predecessor. The levels you race down are much better looking, more involving and a hell off a lot more crazy. Be it blasting through an operating saw mill, flying over a bridge that's collapsing or skidding over roads with moving traffic, the pace rarely slows down. The graphics are great, (I have bought this to play on my Wii and it looks better that some games that are out for that at the moment) with snow that sticks to you, wind that whips your clothing and wonderful scenery and effects that make it look so real, you'll end up wearing a scarf to play this. The avalanches that chase you down the mountain are amazing, when you watch a replay, you'll be amazed how close it was to you as you race to the bottom.Multiple routes and wicked short cuts make each level a treat to play again and again, which is a rarity in any type of racing game. Once mastered you'll have no problem beating the computer or embarrassing a friend. The game consists of Match race, a versus race against a computer opponent, the winner the one who gets to the bottom quicker.Trick attack, pre set high scores are to be beaten by performing tricks and trick combos.Time trial, beat the pre set times and collect segments of gold coins to buy bonus items i.e new boards.Gate challenge, race down the mountain passing through gates against a clock. And of course you have split screen multi player, and also multiplayer over LAN (although it would be hard to find anyone playing it online now. This game is geat fun and you don't have to be a snowboard fanatic to enjoy this. Get two pads and get some mates round you'll have a blast and the single playing is tops too.

1080:Avalcnhe is the follow up to the original 1080 Snowboarding on the N64 a few years back, and fortunatley the series has not lost it's class. The controls do feel similar to the N64 classic being that you hold L to go faster and use most buttons to perform tricks when in the air. The game is most enjoyable when you are at speed, and you are usually going down the mountain at about 100-120KM per hour. Most of the courses are littered with traps or obstacles to try and ruin your race which can come in the form of wildlife, skiers, and of course the occaisional landslide or avalanche. At the end of a match race you get the oppertunitie to try the very hard avalanche mode which by the time you get to the expert setting is extremley difficult. There is a fair range of five different chracters to choose from and some others to unlock along with 4 unique boards per character and 4 special boards to try and get.The soundtrack is also good as well including Boy Sets Fire and Cauterize which makes for an all round enjoyable racer.there are of course a few problems, one being that there is no point in putting in a LAN feature when only a handfull of people can actually use it. Some of the avalanches are too hard coupled with the new balance metre which can destroy your race. The final issue is it's life span, the multiplayer could last years but the single player can get stale.Problems aside, this game is worth buying as it is definatley the best snowboarding game on the Gamecube.

Well, it's been AGES since Nintendo made their last 1080 game, so I was quite excited when it came out and bought it a while after. First up is that there's NO point in choosing between SSX 3 and 1080 Avalanche. SSX has more tricks but 1080 is more of an extreme racer... get 'em both! Onto the game! Well first, you might as well know that 3 out of 5 of the original characters of the first 1080 game-Ricky Winterborn, Akari Hayami and Rob Haywood-are in this game with 2 new comers-Kemen Vasquez and Tara Hunter. The ideas of the modes are simple:Match Race-Race to the bottom BEFORE your opponent.Multiplayer-Up to 4 people can race.Gate Challenge-Get as many points as possible by going throughgates.Trick Attack-Get as many points as possible by pulling off stunts.Time Trial-Get the shortest time or get the coins.LAN-Online multiplayer. There are 9 areas where the slopes are set: Enter the Cold, Easy Life, Angel Light, Sub-Zero Assault, Aspen Lake Dam, Ride Easy Railways, Frozen Melee, Avalanche Alley and Nintendo Gamecube Stunt Zone. There are some new features as well-the speed lines-the faster you are the more vigorous they become, environmental hazards such as avalanches, and the power bar-by performing tricks you fill it up and then you can hit your opponents-and the off-balance bar.Alternative-1080 Snowboarding. My final verdict-The AI are competitive, the tricks cool and the tracks are awesome! Better than the prequel! 91%Was this review helpful to you?

ok so you want a good snowboarding game and your looking at either 1080 or ssx3 well after playing both of them to death i decided 1080 is much better.so you start off with your boarder and a crappy board but thats ok coz you are starting on amiture level this gives you a chance to get used to the controll system it seems akward at first but after 10 mineuts its perfict.you have four settings to race on amiture medium advance and expert the number of tracks in each increases the harder the setting but the last track on each setting is a avalanch stage and unlike ssx your hands will be shaking as the biggest snow wave chases you down the mountain.but the reason this game sticks out is because of the speed when racing you will be flying down the mountain always aware the computer is just behind you, going so fast the camera starts shaking and also the neat tidy track design unlike ssx where your going down the mountain not knowing where you are. apart from the main game there in a coin mode(go down the mountain collecting coins)a trick mode and the game also supports LAN play.best snowboarder i have played and most the magazines i read gave it 90%+ buy now

I couldn't stand the wait for 1080 to come out on the Gamecube so I went out and bought SSX3 as soon as it was released and have been addicted ever since. On playing 1080 for the first time I though it was too slow, the controls were awkward and the courses were very short, but I stuck with it. I don't know what happened but after about an hours play something clicked and it all made sense. It takes a little longer to get the feel of the board beneath your joypad than SSX3 but when it happens the rewards are great. The courses aren't as big as the mountains on SSX3 but they are more finely tuned and offer a far more adrenaline packed experience. My advice is that if you are only going to buy one snowboard sim and you want a game to pick up,play for 15mins and put down get SSX3, if you want to loose an evening get 1080 Avalanche!

This is one of the fastest, most exhilirating winter games ever since Winter Heat on Sega Saturn. When you talk about speed of processing and absolute madness, this game comes to mind. The snowboarding has a fair learning curve, starting with the easier basics and ending with the gnarly tricks and daring feats. Blazing downhill across quaint snowy villages, construction sites, ski resorts and wild mountainsides is fun and very addictive. You can play for high scores, best times or just a quick fix of frosty fun. Most definitely recommended for GameCube owners who enjoyed the original on Nintendo 64 and for enthusiasts of snowboarding and fast and exhillirating games.

Being a fan of the classic 1080 on the N64, I'm glad to see they haven't butchered it with the sequel. Instead we see spdates of the old characters, again with the slight over enthusiasm about the soundtrack and simply fun gameplay. They've made the speed you go at even better, with the scenery ever powdery. My only ..thing.. is that the tracks seem quite short, (but saying that there are more of them) and there is less to explore around, especially as you "travel" so fast. I suppose the more updated and complicated games become the less you can go out of the box.Overall, very good.

1080 Avalanche is very challenging, you won't get bored with this game! This game has different ways to race including gate challenges, trick attack, and match races. You can also play with multiple players and connect the game via broadband. You have 5 characters to choose from and each has his or her own style. You'll start out with only 1 board for each racer and that board has minimum capability. To increase your speed, etc., you'll have to complete gate challenges to earn better boards.Overall, it's a very good game if you like racing competition and high-speed challenge.

I own the game along with its n64 predecessor, bar Zelda ocarina of time and twilight princess. 1080 is my favorite game. Beautiful to watch, instinctive to play and in terms of the endorphins and feeling you get from playing it-it's probably the closest virtual recreation of the real thing I've ever encountered.

28.9.2003

Being an owner of the original 1080 Snowboarding for the N64, I am certain that this game is going to be as fast paced and action packed as the first. You can race friends, perform stunts and there are many things to unlock, and the GC version will undoubtedly have far superior graphics.
