Yardley London English Lavender is quintessentially English and yet, ironically contains French Lavender. The fragrance is, as the name suggests, flowery. It is subtle and sweet and of course that fabulous lavender smell.Lavender has been used for centuries as a scent to relax and relieve stress.People, in the past, would use muslin bags containing lavender and place them in the drawers of clothing or in pillows. To emulate this and a short spray on your pillows or on a cotton handkerchief and the like at night would emulate this.It is an ideal present especially for foreign visitors and tourists as an ideal gift and reminder of England. However,a word of warning Yardley has changed the formula for this long loved and respected fragrance.'New improved classic fragrances. New formulations: Up to 95% naturally derived ingredients and free from parabens.' is the wording. This will not please many but the new smell is a move forward by the firm. But I see it has not pleased the lovers of the original.BUT I suspect that the brand in its original format has been steadily declining as, ironically, has the users.Once bought a bottle is kept for years. This package makes an ideal gift for the lady in your life, lover, wife or Mum.The package is simple and elegant. It has traditional pictures of flowers- lavender mainly and the back gives a list of the ingredients. It does make a great gift.

I love the smell of fresh lavender and, having used Yardley Lavender products for decades, I was keen to try this Yardley Lavender eau de toilette spray. After spraying it onto my wrists, I was surprised because it wasn't as I expected. This isn't the traditional Yardley Lavender I have used previously but a slightly different fragrance. The rich lavender bursts through as anticipated but I can also detect secondary notes of violet and even a little patchouli producing an overall fragrance which is richer and more 'tangy' than Yardley's traditional lavender. I like it: it is crisp and fresh but also a warmer, richer and fuller scent likely to appeal to a broader market than pure lavender, aided also by its more modern floral packaging and simple, plain glass bottle.I am open-minded re fragrance and keen to try something a little different - and find this a clean and refreshing light scent which lasts about 2 hours on the skin before needing a top-up. It is definitely lavender-dominant and a lovely scent for a bright spring or summery day. However, any less-flexible and long-term traditional Yardley Lavender users expecting to find their usual lavender perfume needs to be aware that this 'English Lavender' is different to the more traditional Yardley English Lavender purple boxed as 'Original English Lavender'.

A lot of people are complaining that this perfume has changed in terms of how it smells, but having not smelt the original I'm reviewing purely based on smelling the current one! I was slightly concerned it might be a bit of an old lady smell....not that there's anything wrong with that (violet is one of my favourite scents, for example, but I wouldn't necessarily wear it...) The first thing I noticed upon spraying and sniffing is that it doesn't smell of lavender which is rather a shame. It does have a rather powdery and short lived smell, it's nice and it's not old ladyish...so I like it enough to wear it, but I am a huge fan of lavender and had I bought this based on thinking it would be a lavender smell,I would be disappointed. So overall I like it, but to me this is a rather sweet powdery scent, not lavender.

I love the new Yardley range I have tried a couple of their EDT range now and love them all. I have always used lavender for aiding sleep in oil form, in necklaces where you can add oil to a pad and now this. It does not have a strong fragrance it is very subtle it does not last all day. But for a daily perfume its fine I just have another spray during the day. I have also sprayed it on my pillow before bed. My husbands not that keen on strong smelling Lavender so this is perfect, it does not bother him when I spray it on my pillow or spray it on myself during the day. If you like Lavender but not to strong smelling then try this subtle but pleasant smelling EDT.The packaging is nice,it comes in a card box with a cellophane wrapping, making it nice to give as a gift.

This is NOT April Violets. In December bought 3 bottles of this perfume which I have used for years, 1 for gift, only used it today and no way is this genuine. Rang daughter who gift was for and she hadn't liked to tell me. I feel conned and not sure who/how to complain to but believe me I will. Absolute rubbish waste of time and money.14.2.2018Have now had number of contacts from supplier who did utmost to sort this problem via replacements (still not smelling of April Violets) then refunds. I am satisfied they have done all they can to solve problem and can only wonder if Yardley have changed their product?Have upgraded review to 4 star purely on basis of excellent customet service which is appreciated.

This is a classic perfume, which comes in a 125ml bottle. This reminded me of my 1970’s childhood, with Yardley talcum powder and soap and has a very evocative, clean scent. The smell is subtle, flowery and – although not perhaps the fragrance you would choose for a night out – is a lovely, daytime scent.I think this has a nice, retro appeal, which is reflected in the simple packaging. I must admit that I thought this would be just a nostalgia thing, but I was surprised as how much I liked this scent. It really does have a pleasant smell, although there is a touch of talcum powder about it!

This is the old Yardley English Lavender scent, but in a new style of bottle and packaging. The scent is just as it was, a pleasant, sweet, floral aroma. The outer box has a very pretty design with violets and lavender mingled. The bottle is a very nice, stylish shape. It's easy to get the bottle out of the packaging so it's fine for those of us who have arthritic fingers, and the spray is easy to work and doesn't drip. I didn't think this needed any changes but as long as the perfume is as nice as ever any lady with a fondness for floral fragrances will appreciate it.

unlike most perfumes i find nowadays that wear off very quickly, this seems to last all day, fades but even on the night you can still get a whiff of it.Although when i bought this rose perfume i was hoping and expecting more of a floral rose scent. where as this bottle of perfume seems to be more sweet, you end up smelling like a turkish delight, so even though it wasnt the rose scent i was hoping for was still very pleased as it was such a lovely scent, i have been getting compliments everytime i go out wearing it.VERY POPULAR!

I have purchased this brand before, and find it fairly reliable in that the fragrance is as expected. Also the aerosol works well.I recently purchased a different brand of lily-of-the-valley (I suppose I'm not allowed to specify the name, but it's another traditional English brand; it was established in the late 19th century); that one smelled nothing like it was supposed to - no hint of that lovely flower. I'm no expert on fragrances, but when I smelt it I thought of men's aftershave! I'll be sticking with Yardley.

Very nice fragrant.I love to use classical Yardley English lavender perfume only before bedtime but those new Yardley lavender I am use when I am going out as well. It's aromatic, fresh spicy, floral and herbal .it is contemporary new version .Main notes are lavender, chamomile, jasmine, geranium, eucalyptus, violet.Top notes are bergamot and clary and the base features deep, warm notes of vanilla, wood and patchouli. The perfume is long lasting smell. It smells natural, clean and soapy.I'm really love it .

2nd update. over 15 hours passed. the very thin scent is here. my son says "smells of flowers"that's enough for me to recognise the quality of this product.UPDATE: NEARLY SEVEN HOURS PASSED since I sprayed it . I still can smell it on my wrists, not so obvious but a very nice light feminine scent. I can say it was a good buy. Cheap and cheerful. would buy more from Yardley.sprayed it on to my clothes, on to my hair and the wrist half an hour passed. nice and bright smell is here.

I absolutely love lavender, though it's not been a fashionable scent since my mum used it. Yardley is the brand I've bought/used, so I was really pleased to get a whole bottle. It doesn't smell the same, though all that's meant to have changed is the packaging. The smell is less pungent and more baby-powdery and floral. It's more 'mixed flowers' than full-on lavender, which is disappointing. Furthermore, the scent fades quickly and gets even less like lavender as it dries out.

Still the great smell it always had, I got this for my girlfriend, and she was very happy with the look and the smell, she likes the classic smell of this perfume reminds her of her mother using it, and the packaging she felt made it look contemporary without it looking dated or too new! Value wise you get a fair amount in the bottle so appeals to these value for money times we live in now :)From a male point of view I thought this packaging looked pretty smart!

This is a classic scent that I hope will never go out of fashion. Some people claim that lavender is only suitablee forelderly women, but I disagree. This lavender is light and herbal and smells so clean and refreshing. This comes in a gernous 125 ml bottle and I love the simplicity of it. It does what it says on the tin, but it does it very well. Lavender always reminds me of Spring and clean bathrooms and country gardens. Nobody does lavender better than Yardley

I bought this for my Granny as a Christmas gift. As a child, I remember her using Lily of the Valley frequently, so I thought it would be a lovely gift as she could no longer find this where she lives. She was very happy with the perfume and she asked me how I remembered her favourite perfume. This always stuck in my mind as one of the bottles on her dressing table (along with Fiji EDP) and I will definitely be buying this again for her!
