While there are a lot of scents popping up for the contemporary ‘modern gentleman’ genre (or stereotype)- the Mr B. The Gentleman Rhymer-esque modern young chaps who borrow heavily from styles of decades past but who offer up something decidedly new- this perfume seems genuinely old-fashioned somehow, but in a good way I think. It’s smart, elegant and presented in a manner that is posh, but which doesn’t carry with it a great deal of fuss. Inside the slightly over-sized Christmas-gift-friendly packaging is a very simple glass bottle, with a small spray nozzle, that doesn’t show off and just gets on with the job of making you smell nicer. And that’s to be applauded I think. The smell itself is an interesting hodge-podge of elements that are familiar to that genre. It’s a little musky, with a sandalwood and lemon concoction going into my nose. I don’t get the cocoa notes that the product description suggests- I wish I did- but instead I get a twist of something a little bit more unusual if I smell it up close. It’s a something that reminds me of Euthymol toothpaste (which I’ve always had a soft spot for), and while it ought not to appeal, it really rather does. The scent lasts a very long time and is distinct to people nearby you for a substantial part of that as well, so full marks for longevity as well. It’s not perhaps modern enough, or maybe pseudo-modern enough, for a younger crowd, but for anyone looking for a scent that’s mostly a traditional and reliable gentleman’s perfume, but with a subtle twist for anyone who sniffs closer, then this Yardley scent has a lot to recommend it.

I was in two minds about trying Yardley's Eau De Parfum, Gentleman Elite. There's something about the brand Yardley that is evocative of the 1980s and their image seems to have been left behind when the stronger, more contemporary, fragrance houses and brands took over the market. However, although it is certainly reasonably priced, I wouldn't call this cheap, so I decided to be open minded and give it a go and I'm pleased that I did. While it is difficult to adequately describe smells, Gentleman Elite is a fresh, woody, herbal mix that lasts well and the kind of scent that brings to mind shaving, splashing (or in this case spraying) on a some cologne, putting on a clean, crisp shirt and going out for the evening confident in the knowledge that you're going to smell fresh and, for want of a better word, manly the whole night. The box the bottle comes in is stylish and classic, but the bottle itself looks a bit dated compared with some of the higher end products on the market - it reminds me of a hip flask and the dull brown colour of the EDP doesn't look particularly alluring. Still, it smells good and that's the main thing. They've definitely worked on trying to make their product right for the 2019 market and they've almost succeeded; I still think they will appeal to the older age range because of their brand, but should you be a little younger and looking for a quality scent for a very good price, you could do a lot worse than giving Yardley Gentleman Elite a go.

First impressions are OK, the packaging is nice enough while the bottle itself is basic but functional. It starts out quite a sweet scent, hints of fruit, quite a fresh, summery smell. Over time the smell does settle to a slightly deeper, woody note, whilst retaining a hint of that sweetness, although it never reaches a dark or musky tone. I was really hoping for the sandalwood scent to come through a bit more, as I love sandalwood, but for me, the sandalwood is not as distinctive as I would have liked, but that’s just me. It does seem to last quite well and I can still smell it on clothes the next day, although by this point it is very subtle. To me, this is quite a subtle scent on the whole, the type of fragrance that is probably best suited for everyday wear in work or casually. I don’t think I would turn to this for a night out or an occasion. If you are after an overtly masculine scent or you like your fragrances to be particularly strong and punchy then this is probably not the scent for you. If you are looking for something a bit more subtle and lighter then this would probably appeal. As I mentioned above, I think this makes for a pretty good everyday scent, especially through the summer months, to which I think it is better suited.

I'm not quite sure who the target market is for this Yardley Gentleman Legacy Edition Eau De Toilette Spray – but as it seems best suited to the more mature man it may be a good gift idea for Father's Day next month (Sunday June 16th in the UK). Yardley of London is a long-established British company – now Indian-owned – that has been producing cosmetics and related products for around 250 years. Famous for it's traditional scents and talcs for women the brand now seems to be looking for wider markets and this Gentleman's spray is a good compromise between traditional quality and price, offering a decent 100ml Eau De Toilette for around twenty pounds currently from Amazon. An Eau De Toilette is not as strongly fragranced as an Eau de Parfum so more spray is needed for the same effect, and the scent may not last as long. The fragrance of this Legacy spray is outlined in the Amazon product description and you may detect some of notes mentioned – I would just say this is quite a heady mix and best used in autumn or winter. This traditional Eau De Toilette is ok – not quite to my taste – but nicely presented and reasonable value at the current price; four stars personally, but others may well like it more than I do.

I was all set to give this just four stars. Largely because I love the Jasper Conran 'Naked' fragrance I was recently sent via Vine. And I didn't expect I'd like this as much. I'm not usually a 'toilet water' (eau de toilette, indeed!) type of guy. I've always thought it was a rather vain waste of money. But I have to confess, now that I've been given a chance to enjoy using the stuff for free, I might well start paying to do so.I'd say that this Yardley fragrance is a bit more traditional, perhaps even run of the mill, than Conran's exquisite 'Naked'. That said, I'm really loving the scent. So, in fairness, it has to be five stars. I was asked to score it on scent, longevity and value for money,as well as overall. I've given five for scent, held off on longevity, having only had it a few days, and given it three out of five for value for money. As perfumes go it might be better than that on the last point. But I think ALL such products are very heavily overpriced, which is partly why I've never been a Brut 55 type of guy in the past! The long and the short of it: smells fantastic. At least to my nose!

I'd only really come across Yardley through their fragrances for ladies - and, I must admit, that was through my Nan, so I had a perception of them as a slightly 'mature' feminine brand. I was really intrigued to give this men's fragrance a go.It's actually a full-bodied, cedarwood, oaky kind of scent to my nose, and very pleasant. For sure, it's not a particularly bright or ocean fresh scent, but it has something smart and professional about it, and I think would appeal to guys in their 30s and 40s. It's certainly traditional but not old-fashioned. I've tried more expensive fragrances with a very similar scent, so I think this is good value for a standard, everyday EDT. As it is an EDT,it doesn't last for more than a couple of hours, which is what you'd expect really. Otherwise, it's very nicely packaged in a simple, classy bottle, and as such would make a nice gift. All in all, a very agreeable, everyday men's scent, and good value. More a workhorse of a fragrance than a favourite, this definitely makes a good day-to-day EDT. Pleasantly surprised by Yardley - not just for Nans!

Yardley are a well known and long established name in the cosmetic industry, but it came a a revelation to me that they made gentlemen’s aftershave. This is nicely presented in a black carton - though perhaps Amazon need to rethink their shipping policy on this item as the box, though not the contents, arrived crushed. The bottle looks great, showing off the bronze colour of the aftershave and having a very nice metallic cap over the aerosol head. You don’t need to use a lot of this as it’s quite a strong scent and remains for a good length of time. I was not sure about the scent itself - it’s not unpleasant but is difficult to describe. For what it’s worth it made me think of tweed and spices! My personal preference is for aftershave a bit more subtle but if you are looking for something quite definite this may be it.At the current £20 for quite a large quantity this is good value and if you use sparingly will last for a long time. It does not rank up there with the higher end aftershaves but then you are paying a fraction of the price.

This review is for the Gentleman Legacy Parfum. It opens quite sweet - top notes are listed as pink pepper and mandarin - I don't get any citrus but there's a definite lightness there. I've found it settles to a much warmer base, patchouli and a hint of vanilla. That base lasts nicely throughout the day, and it's a good subtle scent to carry. That lack of freshness does rule it out for a summer daytime pick, but it will be perfect for evenings or colder seasons. It doesn't jump out as being particularly more appropriate for either a mature or younger customer, but again the brevity of the sweetness might put it closer towards older gents.I'll be honest and admit that I hadn't considered Yardleyas a male fragrance option and vaguely associated the house as being more orientated towards older ladies. This fragrance has totally changed my opinion, and at a very competitive price there's a lot to recommend. I notice that the Gentleman series has a good range of varieties, Legacy being just one, and I'll be keen to try the others in future.

As I have a beard, I don’t use after-shave, and I don’t use cologne much. This may persuade me to change my mind. It is subtle without being insipid, and is very pleasant to wear. My wife loved it, and as she has a better sense of smell I asked her what smells she could detect. She got the cedarwood straight away. Long ago I used to use Goya Cedarwood, but that really consisted of only the main fragrance, whereas this Yardley one is far more complex. My wife had a bit more difficulty identifying the others, but she said the pink pepper was the most obvious. On hearing there was also cocoa in the mix, she was not surprised I liked it (I’m a chocoholic!)My wife uses Yardley perfumes, but I didn’t know they did fragrances for men.Having been out of the market for so long, I don’t know how much to expect to pay, but £20 sounds pretty reasonable.

Wow we just love this classic gentleman Eau De Toilette, I've always been a big fan of Yardley myself especially ladies perfume going right back to the 70s so decided to let my husband try this little beauty.Absolutely lovely fragrance a little on the heavy side maybe, so don't over do it but a very masculine smell , very spicy and very fresh with the cardamom black pepper citrus ingredients and sandalwood, musk and more.100ml glass bottle with a very even spray and nice strong cap that isn't loose nested in a very smart black and gold sealed box making this a perfect gift ( fathers day in June ).A perfect time now to purchase this product while it's reduced from nearly twenty pounds to just over twelve pounds at the time of writing this review (a true bargain ) for this quality Eau De Toilette.Very happy to highly recommend.

Legacy is a slightly heavier fragrance that is nostalgic and evocative, reassuring and warm. You just want to give the wearer a hug!The chunky, smoked glass, spray on fragrance bottle is generous, a 100ml/3.4 fl oz bottle. It comes in a smart black pack with embossed logos etc in silver, an additional label in copper and black. Looks very smart and suave. The scent develops well, starting with an invigorating tone of traditional cedar wood which settles to a pleasant, mellow fragrance which is most attractive. Cinnamon and citrus blend together with pink pepper, spicing it up. The patchouli offers further heat. 'Eau de parfum' is not aftershave, it is an extra layer to finish off grooming routines perfectly.Yardley is a long established brand with a royal warrant. Trust it.

The traditional saying is that you get what you pay for. Here I think you get very good value for money with a scent that has staying power. I am aware that it is your skin and not the scent that dictates how long the scent lingers, but this one does stay. The normal stuff I use is expensive (£70 ish) and I tend to go for about six squirts and yet a couple of hours it is as if it was never there. This? Three squirts and it still gently lingers some hours later. It is a heave and woody smell, certainly not your light sporty touch that one might use during the summer. My nose is not sophisticated enough to detect the quoted mandarin or spices though. But I like it and Yardley is not a brand I would previously have considered. One more for the darker months, but I do like it

A substantial 100ml smokey glass bottle with a chunky, logo-ed antiqued metal top. Yardley is a most trusted mid-range brand and their Gentleman Elite is a credit to them. The fragrance is classic, fresh and invigorating, with warm fruity tones that linger attractively. The pine and sandalwood notes come through well and the other shades of basil, vetiver, grapefruit, amber and patchouli are discernable. The citrus is definitely there. As a traditional scent, it all appeals strongly.Being an Eau de Parfum rather than an aftershave product this is the last of the Gentleman range to be applied, making you fell properly set up for the day. No one is going to object to this fragrance,it could be made by an even more expensive brand, it is so pleasant.

Packaged to perfection with a classic silver and black box, this Yardley Eau de Toilette 'Gentleman' appears timeless and tip top quality. With the splendid coat of arms adorning the front, proclaiming that the brand was established in 1770, Yardley of London shows pride in its long history. The hip flask shaped bottle is made of cloudy dark black glass, it feels substantial and tactile. The well made top comes off easily, revealing a spray dispenser for giving a burst of the fresh, invigorating, appealing fragrance. The ingredients are listed as fresh citrus, black pepper, cardamon. Later comes the afterburn of sandalwood, musk, amber and intriguingly a sweet hint of white chocolate. It may not last long but it does make a lovely impression.

My wife thinks it smells good on me, and that's pretty much all that counts. I can't honestly say what the scent reminds me of, but it does smell nice in a manly way, so it's doing its job. It lasts at least 3 hours without losing much scent, but you might want to either take it along with you or plaster yourself in it if you want to be sure of it going all day or all night, depending on what you're up to. It's an EdT, so won't ever last as long a pure perfume, but that's no big deal. The bottle is pretty unremarkable, not that that's important, and at this low price you can't expect much anyway. Given the price,I'd say this is good value and worth a punt if you fancy a change from going out smelling of fish and chips or a pack of Woodbines.
