... that they have reduced the price of this item (at the time of writing it was £29) as it was priced too high when I purchased it (£36) and it even used to be £45 ! Whilst I accept that the axiom "You gets what you pays for" is generally true, I would say that the amount being asked for it is still too much.It does feel like a solid, well-made unit and its ease of use is undeniable (simply tip to activate); the size of the grind is easily adjustable, the mechanism appears well constructed, the 'hopper' size is generous, I do not agree that it is overly large, as other reviewers have said, and it feels very pleasant in the hand. You will be pleased to learn that it comes with six AAA batteries (Energiser with mine). For me, I do not agree that this is too many. The whole point of having that amount of power is to ensure that the mechanism works properly (those pesky peppercorns can be very hard, you know !) and it also means that, in theory, you should be changing the batteries less often.Just a little caveat on the above, though. After a month or so one of my mills (I bought two) started slowing down and not long after stopped altogether. The other one was still working fine. As I know that, when troubleshooting, one should always commence with the basics, I decided to test the batteries - they were all in the red ! This surprised me as the batteries were clearly new and had been sealed and it is rare that one receives a defective batch (as it can't have been only one that wasn't right) but it is worth noting my experience as it is probably good practice to test ALL batteries that one receives with products since it can solve a lot of irritation later on !So, why the four stars ? Well, it has nothing to do with the battery issue. Firstly, for the money I would expect some kind of light: even cheap products have one and, while I concede that these do use slightly more battery power and may not last, if the manufacturers were to put as much effort into the light mechanism as they seem to have done with the actual mill, I see no reason why its longevity would not be on a par with the rest. A light is, in my opinion, essential for use at the dinner table (especially in the evening !).The second disappointment I have with this item is one that I see I am a lone voice on, as other reviewers make no (negative) mention of it but to me it is important and it is this: although I like the fact that the very nature of a gravity mill means that the orifice for egress of the condiment faces upwards - which is far preferable, of course, as one doesn't leave a mess on tables and work surfaces - the inevitable consequence is that the part from where the foodstuff exits is open to contamination. Specifically, there is no way to keep the damn dust off !!Leaving aside any aesthetic issues with such an arrangement - and they are very real as salt/pepper dust all over the top of the mill is surprisingly unsightly (see attached photo) - I object to having what is effectively a dust trap which I then tip up over my food, pouring old(er) salt/pepper out along with the new and anything else that might have found its way into the spout !This disappoints me. I did a search for a cover for WMF mills and found that they actually DO produce one (at a ridiculous price (£15), it has to be said) but, alas, this is only for another model of mill which has a straight top and not an angled one.I really feel that for this kind of price the item should come with a neat rubber or plastic top which one simply removes before use (after all, one has a hand free !) and then replaces to keep everything neat, tidy and hygienic. It would be so easy.I would love anyone associated with WMF to read this review and act accordingly as I am convinced that there will be many others out there who agree with me and will be far more likely to purchase the product if a cover were included with the mill.Anyway, enough said. All told, it's a good item ... but it's not quite perfect ...FVP.S. And what on Earth does "multi-colour" mean for this product ...?!

Love the way this pepper mill works, you just tip it over food and it automatically dispenses ground pepper. Turn it upright and it stops. A tiny amount remains in the top but this is infinitely better than my old one which kindly dispensed the excess everywhere especially in my cupboard! I do use it for cooking rather than on the table and it feels nice in my hand. It is quite chunky so doesn't really look like a table item but there is nothing to stop you using it as a table item if you are not bothered by the size. My old one had a light but this one doesn't - I don't really miss the light as I have good lighting in my kitchen but it may be a negative for some people. However the light on my old one didn't last, in fact I went through two Salter ones before this and the light was always the first thing to go and the grinding action lasted only a year or two (probably due to some plastic components). This quality mill is guaranteed 10 years for the grinding action (they state guaranteed to function faultlessly), it has ceramic grinders (instructions say it is suitable for salt, pepper, spices and dried herbs) and it overall feels very well made.BTW Amazon don't make it clear (or they didn't when I purchased mine) but it does come with 6 AAA batteries included in the box so you are all ready to go!

I purchased two for home cooking use. After 18 months I replaced the one used for salt because the metal shaft and male dock had corroded. After a further 18 months the same happened again. This led to me son breaking it as it was stuck. You will see in the photos that corrosion is a problem and there is rust in the power and motor section. It is worse for salt but is also present for pepper. It would be good if the manufacturer could consider why this is happening. It defeats the whole object of a professional standard kitchen set if it can't be used and stored in a kitchen.Obviously, salt is corrosive. But I paid £60 each for these. I love them. I have ordered one more.I may try alternative storage or a silicant bag in the motor casing. But I think the manufacturer needs to be in touch to deal with some satisfaction for the design fault. It is ruining an otherwise brilliant product.

HIGood quality item. I had the Peugeot item before which broke as EVERYONE seemed to try to twist the )(*&^* out of it rather than push the button.Positives. - turning it upside down keeps the cupboard cleaner as the Peugeot version dropped pepper where ever it was stored.Negatives - it is a lot larger and really does not fit on a dining room table - more of a kitchen item. Also the function of pushing the button was better on the Peugeot as it gave better regulation of flow. Also, the light on the Peugeot was very nice and this one is bigger but has no light. So in summary the unit is really good and fit for the purpose. Serious larger kitchen unit not really for the dining room or table.

I've tried a LOT of electric pepper mills in the past years, including top of the range and expensive Peugeot ones such as the Elis model. The WMF model is by far the best I have had.The main problem with electric pepper mills is that they clog up and end up grinding in the void. So far the WMF has totally avoided this problem. It grinds very reliably, each time. Also, it is gravity operated, which means that you just turn it upside down and it grinds. This is good because if you have to hold a button pressed to grind pepper you can get finger fatigue if grinding a large volume. Finally, the WMF mill is very well built, so good value for money.

I bought two of these just before Christmas 2014 as a present for my husband. Nearly one year on and I can happily report that they are (still) brilliant! They work really well and are nice and sturdy. We have children so they've been dropped a couple of times but haven't broken (yet)! At nearly £90 for two they are expensive but, in my opinion, they are worth it as they are something we use every day. We have had numerous other types of salt and pepper grinders, some have been better than others, but all have failed or broken eventually. These seem to be the best we have tried so far and we are very happy with them.

Was a bit sceptical about buying at first, but now that I've used it, I'm glad I took the plunge. I have used it as a peppermill, and will buy another to use for salt in due course. It's solidly built, comfortable to hold, has a bigger reservoir than most of the previous mills I've owned, and as soon as you tip it upside down, it starts to grind. Coarseness is adjustable, so you can suit your needs accordingly. Batteries included, which was nice! What's not to like?....highly recommended.

Believe the HypeThis electric mill is amazing...like nothing I have used before. i must admit, I still think £50 is overpriced however if you can afford it, it is definitely worth it!It does not feel as large as some might have described; however, if you are looking for a Cafe size salt/pepper mill, this is not for you.Only bought one (1) to test with at first however i will definitely consider a second to replace my currently working electric mill.

Feels solid and works perfectly. Loved the idea of a gravity operated mill. The item is not as big a some people have suggested. I kinda wish I bought a second one for salt, but it would be a bit of a waste as I don't use saltTwo negatives for me:Why the need for 4 AAA batteries? The compartment is big enough to house fewer AA batteries surely.Price! Expensive compared to others, but so long as it lasts I don't mind paying for it.

I have purchased two of these for salt and pepper. They are fantastic the best grinders I have ever used. I have bought good / expensive grinders before, however these are far superior.Would highly recommend and worth the cost.

Arrived quickly, well packed. Bought two , one for sea salt, the other for peppercorns. Excellent quality and does , as they say, what it says on the box and as advertised. Very pleased and would recommend.

Been using this now one for a while now and it's the best I've ever had. It's consistent in its power and looks good. Just going to order another for the pepper!

Works like magic and much better than any I have seen in stores. Would definitely recommend it. Had it for nearly a year and works well.

27.12.2013

I have purchased this item before and they function very well for both salt and pepper. No spillage and foolproof operation.

The usual WMF quality! This is the best electric pepper mill I have ever used and is built like a tank!
