Pens are so individual. Ideally you want to try before you buy, but that isn't always possible, so I'll do my best to explain what this pen feels like.I must admit that I normally use fountain pens (I have two, one by Parker and the other by Waterman). However, its quite rare to find a form that says "please complete in blue or black fountain pen", so a ballpoint is a necessity. Its also handy when you're flying, unless you like having splodges of fountain pen ink all over your jacket pocket. And it you're going to have a ballpoint, you might as well get one that will last for years and become your trusty companion rather than compromise with quality. If you look after it,the better pen will probably work out cheaper in the end, and you'll have much more pleasure using it in the mean time. This Expert ballpoint has an all-metal body, with a dark blue lacquer finish on the barrel and a silvery light nickel-palladium alloy twist-cap. The barrel (made of yellow brass-like alloy under the lacquer) is quite broad, but tapers elegantly towards the point, giving a surprisingly good grip on the smooth surface. Its not a heavy pen, but neither is it overly-light, and the balance suits my hand well. The detailing on the cap is quite tactile; it does pick up fingermarks a bit. The cap twists about 160 degrees to expose the ball-point, and is lightly sprung to make sure the nib retracts fully when you are finished. The cap unscrews the other way to access the refill; I was going to buy a spare, but I've heard that one refill should last a year or more. We'll see. This is a decent practical pen. If you prefer a thinner barrel, then the

In an era of word processing and e-mail, the art of writing is being lost and, when we do write, it's frequently with cheap, badly designed ball pens, often picked up free of charge and thrown away when the ink runs out.Well-presented writing should not just be for the benefit of the recipient, it should be a source of pleasure and satisfaction to the writer. Although some talented people can write beautifully with almost anything, for most of us a good quality writing implement is a great helpThe Waterman Blue Obsession Expert Ballpoint pen is undoubtedly a quality writing implement. Open the box and it looks good; the blue lacquered body is a little "tubby", which I find quite attractive. The metal construction gives it a pleasant weight; pick it up, and it sits in the hand, perfectly balanced.Twist the top, with its chiselled palladium finish, clockwise to extend the nib and you're ready to start writing. Ink flow is immediate and even, the ball flows effortless over the paper. The comfortable grip gives an excellent view of the nib and the paper, making it very easy to see the work in progress and control the placement of the words. The Waterman Blue Obsession Expert Ballpoint pen is presented in an attractive, very well constructed gift box, which I didn't need but, if purchased as a present would I'm sure, impress the recipient. It isn't cheap, nothing of real quality ever is, but neither is it expensive. In my view it represents excellent value for money, and I expect to get many hours of pleasure from using it.

Very well presented in a solid blue gift box with gold lettering on the inside and out, and a soft felt interior holding the pen.The pen is fairly heavy (I'm used to using gel pens) and chunky, but it's also very comfy to use. The main body is a light blue colour, and the top part is a chrome colour with five ridges of several circles - it reminds me of Art Deco style, and I think I'd have liked the chrome part on the entire pen, but it's looks quite stylish as it is.The clip is very solid - there's no chance of this accidentally breaking off as can happen on cheaper pens. You twist the pen to expose the nib, and in daily use It's very fluid and works well. It's written consistently first time - even when left in the car and used in a chilly environment.I've only ever used cheap pens in the past, but since using the Waterman I've found that I'm using this as a preference as it's just good to use and feel comfortable.I'd quite happily purchase one of these as a gift as the presentation is excellent and although I consider it to be very expensive for what it is, as a one off purchase it has class and will last a long time.Recommended

This is a superb ballpoint pen. As you would expect from Waterman it is a well made, superbly balanced pen that feels extremely comfortable when you write with it. The first thing you notice after the presentation box is the weight of the pen. It is so heavy. However, the balance is such that once you have it in your hand to write you just do not notice that weight, the pen really does glide across the page. I've been using it for five days now as it arrived two days after I ordered it and I haven't had a ballpoint that's felt as comfortable as this for years. The axiom that 'you get what you pay for' in terms of quality is no truer than with this pen. I was lucky I got one to review, but this is one time I would say I would spend the money to buy it, it's that good. You can buy black refills if you work in an environment where you have to use black ink.

as I love expensive writing instruments of all kinds,The ballpoint pen is well weighted so feels very comfortable to write with. As another reviewer pointed out, you don't need to scribble violently to get the ink flowing. I love the colour and the nib is a 'fine' one ideal for writing in italics.I now own 3 Waterman fountain pens and this beaiutiful blue ballpoint with its lovely decoration on the end. This ballpoint pen would make a excellent gift for a special occasion e.g. a Graduation or a Retirement present.I expect to get years of use out of this beautiful pen.You certainly do get what you pay for with Waterman pens be they fountain pens, ballpoints or fibre tipped ones.

This is a lovely pen in a rather nice presentation box. It writes well but more important is that it not only looks good but it, for me, is just the right diameter and contour to fit comfortably in my hand. I have had other pens which although good quality have just not felt right. The point retracts by twisting the barrel rather than by a press button on the end.In summary a nice elegant high quality pen which comes with a 3 year guarantee. With ball point pens however it all comes down to the quality of the ink/ball cartridge which determines how well it writes. It matters not how expensive a pen is it is the refill that matters.

What a fantastic pen. It arrives in a plush blue case with instructions under the base. Upon opening the case, the pen looks beautiful and is very well made. It feels and looks expensive. In the hand, it feels nicely weighted and comfortable between the fingers. It is easy and accurate to write with. I like this pen a lot.

ething special. A delight to write with, so smooth. My wife found it a little heavy and therefore not as comfortable for her. For me it was just right. Pure quality! Chunky design. Top half silver bottom half blue. Looks and feels great. Would make the perfect present for you or someone else.
