I was bought this pen as a gift through Amazon. I had previously been a fan of one of the competitors but recently their quality has dropped through the floor. This Waterman pen has no quality problems: it is a pleasure to have to use regularly. The pen sits in a presentation box. It is finished in gloss black with gold trim and it looks like a quality item. Its design is not brash or 'in your face' but understated. It achieves, with modern styling, a certain old fashioned presence which invites one to own it and keep it as long-term personal possession. On removing it from the box the first thing to note is that the pen is comparatively heavy: not overly so but enough to persuade me on first handling that it is well and solidly constructed. That first impression is borne out by subsequent use. Firstly the cap clips snugly to the pen body and closes with a satisfying click. I don't see the cap and pen becoming separated when carried in an inside pocket. The clip to hold the pen in the pocket is equally sturdy and I don't see it as likely to bend through use. When removed for writing, there are two choices for the cap: the writer can leave it on the writing surface or it can be placed onto the back of the barrel. If choosing the latter, it holds itself in place with another satisfying click. The balance of the pen with the cap in place is perfect for me: it does not seem in the slightest bit heavy in use as a result.Unscrewing the main barrel reveals the body into which can be inserted either the liquid ink adapter or the Waterman cartridge supplied. I fitted the cartridge and the pen worked immediately. Very good.I will probably end up using the bottle-ink adapter, which takes me back to my schooldays, being a piston design as I had on my very first fountain pen. I like the piston approach better than the 'squeeze me' rubber tube reservoir. The nib simply glides across the paper. It has a wonderfully smooth feel to it that will make writing with this pen a pleasure, hopefully for many years. This is a pen worth buying to treasure as a personal 'signature' item. It is well made, well finished and pleasure to use. Highly recommended.

This is a very nice pen at a reasonable price, it comes in a standard Waternan gift box which is similar to what you get with Parker pens regardless of how much you pay, the cheap ones the expensive ones they all come in the same box which is basically a card box with an outer sleeve the cartridge is under the pen.Comes with a blue cartridge which I would rather be black but blue seems to be the default standard free cartridge for some reason. The pen does not come with a convertor so you will have to buy that separate which is a bit of a pain especially if you are paying the RRP then you should reasonably expect to have the convertor with it.The pen is a nice design,is fairly light in the hand and writes well with a gold nib, a good point for this price of watch. The cap is a snap on type and I would say its a nice pen if reasonably priced. Further up the tree I would recommend the Visconti line which start with steel nibs but I have found very flexible and a delight to use. This one is very nice to use, doesn't come across as too top heavy and is good as a personal pen or a gift.

I had had about six of these pens over the years (different colours and a couple when I've dropped them on their nibs) and I love them! I've read the comments about poor ink flow but this is not an issue I have had - ever. Each and every time the ink is there immediately, and I often hold it in my hand for some time with the top off and no issues at all. I agree it is quite heavy but this suits me well, and I love the balance. Personally I do not put the top on the end but leave it on the table while I write.I use it for work everyday and it serves me well. It's even been through the washing machine - by accident obviously - and despite a small chip to the enamel continued without a problem, sadly not the white wash it was in!I find this a great everyday pen, not so expensive that you're afraid to use it - stick it in your pocket and off you go. I do like a nice fountain pen, and this is the one I always return to. If I had one tiny criticism it is that they have left off the tiny brass that sat on the top of the lid on this newer version but other than that I love it!

How good a pen is or is not is such a subjective topic that I am sure that at least as many will disagree with me as agree but here goes...This is an excellent product for the price. It is not the heaviest, nor is it the lightest of pens. In terms of size, its diameter appears to me to sit between those of a Parker Sonnet and a Montblanc Meisterstuck, so it is by no means the slimmest of pens. As you would expect for a pen in this price range it is not made of the finest of materials but the quality is at least as good as it would be reasonable to expect, and it appears to me that it is likely to prove durable. Most importantly, though, this pen is a joy to write with. The pen sits well in my (long-ish)hand and is by far the nicest of my fountain pens with which to write. It is better in that respect than all of my other fountain pens, several of which were much more expensive, being from Waterman's direct competitors as well as luxury brands.

My husband writes a daily diary and wanted a silver-coloured fountain pen for Christmas. I spent literally HOURS researching types, manufacturers, nibs etc. In the end I settled on Waterman and was impressed by the lovely presentation box which gives it a premium feel. Now that he's been using it for a few weeks I can finally write a review. He tells me that the finish is ideal because it is not too shiny and is therefore easier to hold without having to exert excessive grip. The ink flows steadily without blotching, with only an occasional tiny delay on the upward stroke. I think this is partly his writing style and way he holds the pen, which is impossible to change after 60 years! However,it is so minor that he is overall very happy with it. Note that it comes with only 1 cartridge so you'll need to buy these.

I ordered this on recommendation from my boss who is a great fountain pen enthusiast. The pen comes in a good plastic box which shows the immense work put in its construction. As soon as i connected the cartridge, the pen started to work. This pen has one of the most amazing grip and it writes like you are writing with a stone on butter. The ink coming out from the medium nib is thick and continuous which gives a great writing experience. The nib has gold coating and looks really great. It was packed in a plastic bag and the plastic case was completely damaged. I had to order a replacement and it was delivered in a good shape but was again in a plastic bag.So please consider that it can come damaged if again delivered in a plastic bag.Great product at the end of the day.I recommended to buy this pen.

I'll keep the pen as I paid a lot less that normal retail price, and I will enjoy writing with it from time to time. This is however not my first choice or recommendation, esp. for first fountain pen.The nib is very stiff, and works for deliberate style of writing.Works better with wet inks as this is rather dry pen.I bought mine because I really love the asthetics of this pen, but it is only ok writer, and I would choose many other pens over this to write a letter, unless I want to impress. Any recommendations from me? Chinese fountain pens (metal ones), Pilot fountain pens or this one if yoy know that you like very stiff nibs.Cap posts very nacely,clicks-on the ring at the back of the pen like it does when you recap the pen - neat design feature.

A mid-weight and fairly chunky pen that is a delight to use.It accepts both the included converter of the standard fit, but slimmed-down (others using the same fitting will fit into the nib section but not fully within the barrel) and ink cartridges. In addition to the Waterman cartridges, those by Diamine, Herbin and others will offer a far greater colour range and choice.Although the nib is gold in colour, it is steel and gold-plated rather than a gold alloy. Consequently the nib is quite stiff and relatively inflexible but a very smooth and consistent writer. Treat it with care and it will provide good service for many years. In terms of price,it is inexpensive but not cheap and far better value than any of the low-end alternatives.

I have used several pens in the sub-£100 bracket but none come close to this. The nib is quite wet and buttery smooth, with a medium line which is a tad on the broad side, but excellent nonetheless. I love the gold and brushed steel look, it is smart and sophisticated. The pen is very nicely balanced, with the centre of mass just on the cap band both when posted and closed, and exactly halfway along the pen when unposted. The grip is very comfortable for long writing sessions - I used it for about two hours straight today - and the cap posts and closes with a satisfying click. All in all a fantastic pen, looks wonderful and is very difficult to beat for the price, and with the added bonus of a 3 year warranty from Waterman!

A magnificent fountain pen in all accords. The ink never dries (as it happened with a fountain pen of another brand i had bought from Amazon as well), smooth as velvet on paper and that gold touch makes it an absolute beauty. I have no complaints whatsoever, only good things to say.So why only 4 stars out of 5 ?? Simply because 5 stars should be reserved for the Mont Blanc fountain pens of the higher price range. One can't give them 6 stars out of 5, so 5 should be reserved for them and them alone. That is the only reason, for me there can be no other. For its price, I am wholeheartedly, absolutely, inescapably, unequivocaly ec-bloody-static !!!! And, mind you,I am hellishly difficult to please as a person.

Not sure what pen they were using... but like all ink pens, yes the ink will dry out if you do not use it regularly! What do they expect? This feels like a classy, easy to hold, robust ink pen that will stand the test of time. It's not one of those fancy pants pens that people use for 'show'.This is a pen that will work day in and day out. It's a work horse and built well. The black (my pen) finish is great; polished and does not slip down your fingers when you write for any length of time.I would say this is not a pen you use to show off that you use an Ink Pen. It's a pen that write well and does not make your hand ache after long term use.The right price for an everyday inkpen that does what it says.

I quite like my Waterman. Not quite the same quality as some of the other pens I have [Parker Sonnets & Duofold etc] but then the Waterman Expert is not the same price either. Nib is 'M' but for a medium writes closer to some of the 'F' I have [I'm right handed].I use a Converter in all my pens so in common with most it may not always start first stroke when laid aside for a time.NB: I use Diamine & Quink inks in all my pens so flow rate / 'wetness' is constant across them, despite different colours used - I like to give each pen it's own ink colour.I like the positive click when the cap is fitted either over the nib or to the body when writing, to maintain a pleasant weight and balance.

A lovely pen from the Waterman family. This is a great step up for those who started on the Hemisphere collection and want to move on to the next tier in the Waterman family. The pen writes well and is constructed to the high Waterman standard. The only issues I personally have with the pen is the fact, unlike its cheaper Waterman Hemisphere range, the pen isn't made from metal and therefore is deceptively light. This isn't necessarily a fault of the pen - many may enjoy a lighter pen - but for those who prefer a bit of weight behind their writing I would say to aim for a metal variant.Writing with this pen is comfortable especially being left handed.

Have been using a fountain pen now for close on 50 years. I've had many types of varying quality and value. My favourite for years was a Cross Century, which was sadly lost. On the recommendation of a friend, I bought the Waterman 'Expert', the first Waterman I've owned. I am really delighted with it. It feels a bit lighter overall than my old Cross but feels more balanced and less top-heavy in the hand when writing. It writes silky smooth on quality paper and the 'wetness' seems to be perfect with the standard medium nib. I have no hesitation in recommending this to others who are looking for a quality writing instrument, without breaking the bank.

Decent sized chunky feel (I have large hands) and matt black with chrome finish is lush and oozes class wihout being laery. The slightly more "large" than "medium" sized nib is never scratchy, nor does it ever fail to leave its mark on paper no matter how fast you try to write or sign your name ... meaning that the only issue you might find is the amount of ink you get through.Even after owning it for a couple of years I still find myself looking for excuses to write something down on paper, just so I can use this pen (if my handwriting were anything special I would probably have written this review with it and taken a photo of it to upload :) )
