In the 80’s and 90’s there were the Pen Popularity Wars (PPW's), Parker or Paper Mate? Legends are still told while people sit around fires about what the pens could do, write upside down, write upside down in outer space, write a missive to your family quickly as you fell over the lip into a volcano or a note safe inside a bottle cast into the sea by a shipwrecked sailor hoping for a salvation. Everyone had a favourite brand, well that’s how I remember it and I stand by that...the mythos has been built and passed to the next generation.The truth is then they both made great pens and this little beauty is supposed to be 90’s retro, to me it harks further back to the very late 70’s as I swear I had this pen when doing my A-Levels although it was red,this one is a pale blue colour. It does have that classic feel about it, that look that many have tried to copy but just don’t match especially quality wise.The ink just flows and the pen body just feels great. The button that clicks to retract the nib is just perfect, sounds good and feels good like it’s not going to fail and leave the nib stuck out, as I say you just know the difference between the real deal and cheapo copies. It’s also the perfect size and fits the hand naturally it has a good balance. It’s not a bad price – a tenner or less for a pen that looks good, feels good, will take the knocks , will last and always work, you could pay a fortune for something super special, but what are you doing ? Signing a treaty in front of a load of cameras when no-one can see the pen anyway? It writes and doesn’t give up (well until the ink runs out but then you get a refill), plus it’s probably better for the planet than an endless stream of disposables. With that in mind, the pen comes in a well presented cardboard box which looks good with the Parker logo on the front, but when opened the inside has a moulded plastic insert where the pen sits, it could have so easily been replaced with an alternative, but still kudos for the bulk of the package, they just need to work on that last flaw.Who’s side did I side with during PPW's a young boy asks while toasting his marshmallow as the camp fire flames reach for the stars. I shake my head, a tear in my eye I couldn’t tell him that I chose no side, a double dealer was I using both, but Parker went from strength to strength and Paper Mate fell by the wayside it’s early attempts at something special being sidelined for something a little more mainstream. I looked him in the eyes and sighed then I turned my head away and quickly scribbled a note for the milkman “Two pints tomorrow please” with my new Parker.

I am an amazon Vine reviewer. I am reviewing the Parker Jotter Originals Ballpoint Pen. The barrel of the ‘pen is in “90’s Retro Blue” with a stainless steel top part, plus clip, that screws onto the barrel. There is a “Clicker” at the end of the stainless steel clip part, which with one press pushes out the blue medium blue refill tip. Another press retracts the refill.I was attracted to the “Retro Blue” name of this Parker biro as I first owned one of these biros (in a different colour) when I was about 15 – in 1965. Yes, I am that old.My favourite colour is blue too, so this biro ticked another box even before I tried writing with it. One thing that I do like is the diameter of the blue barrel – which is about 9 mm half way along its length.This size sits snugly into my hand and makes writing both effortless and a delight. The balance of the “90’s Retro Blue” is good too. Some pens are too heavy and my hand soon tires of writing with them. Some pens are too long and waft about as you try to write with them –so they have too little control.The “90’s Retro Blue” biro is a great “Goldilocks” design. Its good balance means that I can write with it at a good speed and achieve a neat writing result. The medium blue ballpoint size also results in a nice width of text without scraping or breaking through the paper.The clip with the familiar Parker Arrow looks good too and is secure when clipped onto my shirt pocket or inside my bag’s pen slot.In the last 3 days I used the “Retro Blue” to make lists, write cards, to do mind maps of a subject that I discussed at a meeting last night. The pen performed well. Its good balance in my hand made me forget that it was in my hand and instead to concentrate on the matter in hand.You can get refills for the “Retro Blue”, so there is no need to throw away the biro and add to more plastic recycling problems. The metal blue “Quinkflow” refill in this model is 1mm tip size, reference ISO 12757-2.The packaging that came with the pen is a mix of cardboard and plastic. So all of it can be recycled.The paperwork with the pen says that it is guaranteed for 2 years.As a pen fan, I am very pleased that Parker has brought out the “90’s Retro Blue” biro. It looks great and it makes a pleasant change to write rather than tap away on a keyboard! The “Retro Blue” gets 5 stars from me for a great pen – even without my nostalgia! It would make for a welcome stocking filler too!

The Parker Jotter 90's Retro blue ball point; hits me in my age as i was there. I remember using Parker pens at school. Taking the Jotter from its packaging that time and distance has hazed my memory over how narrow the pens are; less than 1/2 a centimeter across whilst my normal writing companions are all over a centimeter. Even my disposible pilot V5 is fatter than the jotter in the hand. The button action has a nice spring and click action. The included ink was blue and it flowed nicely for a ball point. The ink head is about 1/2 mm so you get fine writing from it.The pen in the packaging had dust on it; so if you are buying it for a gift you may want to take it out and give it a clean.The rest of the build was very nice; the plastic barrel didn't show any marks and sealed up nicely with the metal clip. The metal end of the barrel and the button have nice brushed / polished contrast which work nicely with the blue. The plastic barrel has a slight stick to it in your fingers which make for a nice grip; though i vaguely remember over long use these aren't always the best as the barrel is smooth all over and as your hands feverishly noted whatever was being discussed; the sweat made them slippy. The fountain pen wasnt so bad as the ballpoint as the cap give you a detent to come up against. That said its not to hard to wipe your fingers.Its not a pen i would use personally as i prefer ink pens over ball point; but as a first fancy pen for a child its still excellent and its diminutive barrel will suit smaller fingers. Now i just need to get to terms with the fact that my youth is retro.

I was fed up of getting disposable ball point pens, so got this pen! Very well built, the click action is amazing and robust. It does differ from the Rymans one I purchased - although they are bother PARKER brand and red, they differ in design slightly (this one has a metal tip, whereas the Rymans version does not). Both use quality Ball Point refills, But this one has a better clicking mechanism, whereas the Rymans one stopped clicking correctly shortly after using it for a week. BUT this one still goes strong after a month of daily intensive use! I highly recommend and would buy it instantly again - if I lose this one! I love this pen. Good weight, nice to write with and this one is well built!It does not come in a gift box, but this one is not designed to be gift with a presentation box. If your friend/Recipient is not fussed with the minimal Parker Packaging - just gift them this pen, as IT's a GREAT PEN!

I am not a big fan of ballpoint pens but sometimes they are the most practical writing tool around.I like Parker fountain pens and wanted to try out their Jotter pen which is a classic pen I believe.It has a retro blue finish and writes with a medium width nib in blue ink.Writing with it is very comfortable. The pen is lightweight and slender so fits very comfortably in my hand.The nib and is super smooth and feels as though it is gliding over the paper.I haven't yet been presented with any messy blobs of ink, which is my main dislike of ballpoint pens.This pen has changed my attitude to this kind of pen as I love writing with it.I will want to continue with a Jotter in the future now I know how well they write.There is a clip to fasten the pen to a pocket or place in a bag with the distinctive Parker arrow on it.

I remember when I started boarding school in the late 70s I received a gift of a Parker pen and, back then, it was a pricey affair. There was a certain kudos to owning a Parker. I guess this is the memory that is being played on with this "retro" style pen. This one is similar to ones that I owned in the 80s and 90s and it does bring back memories - sad maybe that I admit that a pen brings back memories, but there you go.This pen has the quality that you would expect from Parker and it writes beautifully. There is a certain smoothness with the flow of the pen which just feels right. The refills are widely available at a decent price and this pen will last years.My only picky issue is the packaging - it just feels cheap.But at the end of the day, it just goes in the recycling so I guess it doesn't really matter.

The thing is, these pens are not glitzy or super slick, but they are just good. The long-life refill's ink flows nicely – no stuttering. The on/off mechanism feels very satisfying. There is an effortless simplicity to they work and feel. Perfection, really.I prefer black ink, but most of these come with blue, which is my only gripe. So I changed the refill to a black one, and I'm happy.I bought this Parker Jotter to replace one from the 80s which I lost. The new one is the same great quality, even though there have been some design revisions, and the new pen, in a tiny way, is not quite so 'sharp' looking, but, well, I'm just glad you can still get this classic.

I have used Parker pens for more years than I care to remember and I still have my originalfountain pen, ballpoint pen and pencil set. Still going I might add.So, I was pleased to sample and test this 'Jotter' Ballpoint Pen with a 'Retro 90's ' style in blue.The blue is I would describe as a vivid blue. I liked the colour.I have used it over a two week period and found it to be immediately responsive on different types ofpaper whether it is normal writing paper, post it notes or notepads.I think the Parker Pen is classy, instantly recognisable and performs perfectly. If you want that little bitextra from a ballpoint pen -this is for you! Recommended.

It is easy to see why these pens have become such an established classic. The design is simple and elegant, and they are reliable and functional. They are an ideal size - neither too bulky nor too small. It is good to see that Parker have brought back the original versions with the plastic barrel alongside the all-metal versions that they brought out a few years ago. I love the new bright colours but it is good to see the black and dark red versions, and it would be good to see a dark blue one as well. I paid just over £5 for the pen that I bought which is an absolute bargain for such a high-quality pen. At that price, I will probably buy a few more.

I have an original 90's Parker pen and this has pretty much exactly the same look and feel. It's ever so slightly heavier at 12g rather than the original 11g, and ever so slightly wider, maybe a millimetre is all. It's a nice workaday ballpoint.The design on the clip is very slightly different to my original. I've attached photos of the original pen in black and the new one in blue.To begin with it felt a little scratchy but once the ink was flowing properly it was a joy to use. The ink does not blob at all, and it's lightweight for carrying around. The click on/off both sounds and feels very satisfying

I gave up using cheap disposable ballpoint pens years ago. Ever since, the Parker Jotter has been my pen of choice. I like to have 3 or 4 about the house as I am an expert at losing them and my student daughter is a thief (I suspect she's selling them on the black market at university)!The pens rarely break and refills are readily available. The quality has waned slightly over the years but they're still very good. Just occasionally the 'clicker' mechanism can fail, otherwise, these pens are robust and unless abused, tend to last for ages. At less than £6, I have no complaints.

When looking for a pen Parker is always my go to. I've used then for years. Even now were I have trouble gripping anything this pen is thick and light enough for ease of use. The nib doesn't scratch like most fountain pens can. Sometimes you for get you're writing with a fountain pen as the ink flows so well. It also doesn't leave ink on your fingers after use. 100% recommended for anyone from school aged onwards.

I can't remember what Parker pens looked like in the 90s, but this seems a terrific pen to me whatever it's called. It glides across the page and is easy to hold. I generally use pens just for meeting notes these days and it's definitely my perception that I write more quickly with this pen, so it's ideal. The quality seems good and it's not a huge price. The refills are commonplace and relatively inexpensive.

A bit on the small side for those with .hands and prefer a chunkier, heavier pen. The small medium nib writes smoothly on the fine side. A wide rage of bright colours. The plastic barrel is perfectly robust but some might prefer the more substancial metal version. Perfect for children, students and adults too. Not the end of the world if it goes walkies. Why pay more.

Good pens are very useful, and this is a good one. With a medium point, the ink flows instantly and smoothly, meaning the pen is highly functional. You can also replace the central cartridge when it runs out, which is better than having to replace the pen all the time.It comes in a box, which means it can work as a gift.
