This is a review of the Waterman Gift Set Expert Gold Trim Medium Point Fountain Pen in Black with Leather Pen Pouch. There's a number of different Waterman pens available on this Amazon page and my comments only relate to this specific mode.The pen comes in a substantial gift box which presents the pen and leather case very well. The box is finished in dark blue with a magnetic closure and has a Waterman labelled slip case.In the pack you get the pen, the case, some basic instructions and a single black ink cartridge. The pen does not allow you to use bottled ink although I think Waterman may sell a conversion kit.

I always think that the external packaging you get with a product tells you a great deal about the care and attention that has gone into the design of the product itself.In this case the large solid light blue Waterman’s gift box told me that I probably would find a lot to like about the pen itself.In the attractive gift box is the beautiful looking pen along with a grey/blue (‘evening blue”) leather pouch and a single ink cartridge.The pen has a traditional shape but looks very elegant in black with its exquisite gold plated trim. The medium nib has a two-tone finish You want to pick it up and write with it.It was quick and easy to insert the cartridge and the ink flowed to the nib almost straight away.

I collect fountain pens and I have had a fair number of Watermans in my lifetime. Generally I have always found their quality consistent and good, although I did notice a decline in the quality of their cheaper ranges a few years ago. However, this pen fits well within their range.The packaging is elegant and it would make a pretty gift for someone. It comes with a leather pouch which is equally aesthetically pleasing. (See pictures)Pros:- elegant packaging- ink flowed immediately after I inserted the cartridge- it comes with a medium nib which means the ink flows through fairly thickly giving a smooth and consistent flow- it is light weight (even with the lid put on the back,

Straight out of the box the pen worked first time, beautifully! I'm going to enjoy this pen! I'd read some reviews by pen aficionados who spouted forth about the 'Expert' writing 'too dry' or 'too wet' or being 'too heavy' YAWN! The WATERMAN EXPERT, DEEP BROWN, CHROME TRIM, MEDIUM NIB: It writes very smoothly. The ink flow is perfect. The pen feels very well balanced and comfortable to hold. The style (subjective) is classic/retro, the build and finish are perfection. Size, neither 'slim' nor 'chunky'. The pen top clicks firmly into place when 'closed', also the pen top does not just push onto the barrel when writing, what I initially thought was 'trim' at the top of the barrel,

An attractive looking pen, with gold trim. Nice weight in the hand, and, so far, writes smoothly with an even, continuous flow. It comes with one cartridge. I would have preferred it to be able to be filled manually, as well as be cartridge friendly.No pen, no matter how good the quality, will write well on poor paper, so bear this in mind before giving a terribly negative review. Try it on a bit of nice paper before drawing final conclusions.It comes with a medium nib, which is too broad for my taste.The leather pouch is a bit basic, bulky even. I wouldn't use it. So it falls, for me, flat as a 'gift set'. And I think it is a bit overpriced, though I note that the price has dropped in the last couple of days.I have an old Parker Duofold.

I bought this pen on a whim because I like the Expert. When it first arrived I didn't like the look of it but I had to try it out and when I did I was amazed by the smoothness of the nib, which is far smoother even than some of the solid gold nibbed pens that I own. It writes with a lovely wet line and feels great and well-balanced. As far as the look of the pen goes, I can now say that it is one of my favourites, so much so that I now prefer to store it and look at it rather than use it. The quality is superb and I would not hesitate in purchasing others for friends and family.

This is an exquisite fountain pen gift set containing a black lacquered and 23k gold-trimmed Waterman Expert fountain pen, a genuine leather blue presentation pouch and an ink cartridge, contained in a luxury signature gift box. The medium nib is stainless steel and gold plated, and engraved with the Waterman logo. There is a golden ring around the pen with the Waterman logo engraved on it. The clip is 23k gold-plated. This pen is nicely heavy in my hand. The gift set comes with a three year warranty. A very beautiful gift set any fan of writing would be lucky to receive.

This is an incredibly nice pen to write with. The pen feels well balanced regardless of whether you prefer to write cap on or cap off. The pen has a gold plated medium nib, which should be OK for most users. Simple cartridge replacement. The pen comes exceptionally well presented in a high quality box and complete with a thick tooled leather holder, which would make a great gift. My only criticisms are: 1) For personal use the leather holder whilst of fine quality is a bit superfluous, and, 2) It's a bit on the stingy side only giving you one cartridge.

This is a nice pen. It arrives in a plush presentation case with intructions and a spare ink refill. It writes well and fluently. It's basically plastic with a gold colored metal trim. Sadly it's let down by the bottom end of the pen which is not finished off properly - it is sharp such that you could cut yourself. It's not some cheap pen so I'd expect a better level of finish. Aside form that it is a nice pen to use.

Feels funny saying it is good value for money as at the end of the day it is a fountain pen; however it has a lovely feel to it and writes well. I think you need to know the brand name in order to understand its worth but as a tidy writer it is lovely as it didn't smudge with a left hander. Nice weight to it as well.

I have had this pen for some time now. A delight to write with, never fails. As soon as the nib touches the paper, it starts to write. No fits and starts, just does the job. For the price, you really cannot go much wrong with this one.

I bought this one on sale, which was very good. My son loves it, the fountain pen just slide on the paper. Very nice writing. And the pen itself is looking good
