This is a beautiful looking pen. I wish I’d had one like this at school, in the days when you had to use fountain pens all the time (I know younger readers won’t believe this), but even allowing for several decades of inflation this is more expensive than any I ever owned.During the brief opportunity I had to try it out, my first impressions were good – but then my wife and daughter grabbed it ...My wife thought it was a solid, chunky pen, so she found it had good balance and was very easy to hold. She found it a pleasure to write with. Her tagline was: “If you already use a fountain pen, you will love this; if not, it would be a good start.”My daughter grabbed it for longer,so I forced her to provide more comments. Her verdict was as follows:“It sits well in the hand, despite the weight, and is very easy to write with; it can be used at several different angles, so this would be useful if you were writing notes rather than a large piece of text. It’s quite heavy, so, if you’re not used to a heavy pen, it may take some getting used to. I found it better to write with the cap not left on the blunt end, so as to reduce the weight.”[Interesting that my wife saw the weight as a plus and my daughter saw it as a minus! My wife suggested this is simply because younger people write less, and rarely use a fountain pen to do so, so they may just not be used to the weight of a pen in the hand.]“The cap doesn’t feel loose at all, unlike some pens. I still wouldn't feel comfortable carrying it on its own in my handbag, but I am quite confident that the cap wouldn't come off too easily. The pen doesn’t leak ink over your hands like some previous pens I've used. The ink consumption is reasonable; I haven't written any essays recently but it seems to be quite good for ink consumption. It feels like a quality item that will last for a long time, so this could justify the expense.A couple of negatives:The nib is quite wide, and the ink spreads quite a bit, so the pen may not be such a good option if you have small handwriting.” [My daughter’s writing is medium to large, so it was fine for her.]“It can take a couple of millimetres for the ink to start running, so you need to sometimes go over the start of your writing again to ensure a complete letter.”All three of us thought it was a beautiful item to own, and (as it has an impressive presentation box) it would make a great present for the right person. On the topic of refills, always an important issue for a fountain pen: the cartridges are easy to insert (there is one supplied in the pack, so you can start using it straight away). The pen will take long or short cartridges; you can buy get generic short cartridges, which would be cheaper than branded Waterman items, though if you’re a frequent user you would probably prefer the long ones.)

I'm a left-hander and truth be told, I've struggled on with fountain pens since my old-fashioned school insisted on us using them in my childhood. While I did smudge them, I also came to realise that my (pretty grotty) hand-writing is never better than with a well balanced fountain pen. So though I work in a realm that requires minimal hand-writing I do still keep a fountain pen on my desk and use it for any note taking that might require subsequent scrutiny by others. I also use them for the special occasions when hand-writing says so much more than what is conveyed in the uniformity of typeset. So, out of the box, I was immediately pleased with what I saw.I had previously acquired a very high quality second-hand Aspinall's of London fountain pen but hardly use it because I find it to fat and cumbersome in my left-handed claw-grip - plus it looked a bit pretentious in a turtle-shell pattern. This, on the other hand is a sleek, deep blue that looks smart without being flashy and has a lovely weight to it.It writes smoothly with the ink flowing well whether you write fast or slow. I tried sketching a little with it and found I could create fine lines quite well and fill-in blocks of colour easily (my technical job does require me to be able to produce quick diagrams on occasion) but for my taste the average pen line produced was a bit thick encouraging larger letters than I would typically want to form on standard lined paper. They say fountain pens can be 'worn-in' by a user according to their writing style - certainly true of the Waterman I used for my childhood exams! - so time will tell if I get a better result out of this with further usage.Overall this is an item of understated quality that would make a great gift to anyone who enjoys traditional penmanship - or in my case a great improvement on the disposable fountain pen that I use in the office!

I've had a keen interest in penmanship for a number of years and have been writing with fountain pens and rollerball pens for around the same length of time. I've owned a couple of cheaper fountain pens (Purchased for under $10) that have worked okay but have had their significant downfalls. My first entry level fountain pen was the Parker Jotter Stainless Steel Chrome Trim Medium Nib Fountain Pen. It was around $30 and is fantastic; it looks just like the regular Parker Jotter pen but has the fountain nib. It was light weight, durable and fit into the chest pocket on my shirts and jackets perfectly. I still enjoy writing with it.I wanted to mark a milestone in my life, and I decided to purchase another fountain pen; this time a Waterman. I had looked at other brands such as Cross, Montegrappa and Sheaffer but some of their prices were very expensive and their designs were bland and conventional. Certain models almost seemed fragile in the hand. I was immediately impressed with Waterman's Perspective Blue. It was a very unique looking pen with a really nice, and different, blue color. It writes smooth and has a balanced, quality feel to it. It's a bit more than I would have liked to have spent, but at the end of the day you get what you pay for; a beautifully crafted, high quality pen that will last for years. For the price, I would have liked Waterman to have included a ink converter, but that is a small complaint.

This is a very elegant fountain pen which would be appreciated by anyone who likes the feel of a fountain pen rather than a biro or a roller ball.I think that thus is perhaps more masculine than some of the other Waterman pens so would make a very welcome gift for a man, although I am sure some women would like it too. It is a well balanced pen with a solid, sturdy feel and with a little bit of weight to ensure that balance. In appearance it is very elegant - blue and silver with distinctly art deco feel. It has a clip so can be attached to a book or a pocket etc (some pens don't and this can be a pest!).It writes well, with a good steady flow of ink,and a light feel at the nib.It comes in a presentation box with a cartridge so you can start writing straight away. Waterman pens can also be used with a converter "cartridge" which means you can refill from an ink bottle or any standard ink cartridge (not always the case, some makes only take their own cartridge which is annoying.Altogether a very nice example from a good make.

The Waterman fountain pen comes in a nice presentation box but with only one refill. The pen immediately seems extremely solid and quite weighty, but feels good in the hand. The immediate impression is that this pen is built to last.Although perhaps nothing special in appearance with a stainless steel and blue lacquered finish, the pen really comes into its own when you start writing. The smoothness is something that I have not experienced for many years with a fountain pen. In fact all fountain pens that I have used over the past decades have not impressed me and I have reverted to Parker biro pens for the desired level of comfort and precision of writing. The acquisition of this Waterman product has restored my previous faith and love for fountain pens and I have used it constantly since. The nib feels smooth and the flow of ink is as it should be, making the writing experience as enjoyable.A quality product, although somewhat expensive.

Cracking fountain pen. Comes in a plush blue box. There's one free refill and no twist-refill converter (these are inexpensive to buy). Looks to me like and older style of fountain pen and writes beautifully. It has a blue lacquer barrel with stainless steel trim and a part-gold nib. It has a clean-line look unlike my other Waterman pens which are curvy in appearance. I like this minimalist city architectural look. As with all Waterman pens I have, it feels nicely weighted and comfortable in the hand. It's solidly made and with care will last a lifetime. It's nice to have a real pen in this world of text and email.

This is a chunky pen. It has a thick straight barrel that only steps down to a slimmer diameter close to the nib. The nib is long and broad, although the point is a "normal" medium size. Its very definitely a masculine style, and it seems like its built to last. The silver grip part is solid metal, and the lacquered blue part of the barrel and the cap are metal lined inside with hard plastic. You get a single large blue-black ink cartridge with the pen (you fit it by pushing the end with a circle firmly down into the pen - the flat end stays unbroken). If you'd prefer to use bottled ink, you can buy a

A beautiful smooth writing fountain pen ..... I've always loved using a fountain pen but have for a while not been able to find a pen to replace my original one. This is beautifully balanced and easy to write with.

26.8.2016

Honestly, this Waterman Perspective is one of the most beautiful pens I've even seen in my life. It was delivered promptly and packaged beautifully. Couldn't be happier with the purchase.

For a fine nib it is a bit medium. Classy in appearance but light in weight. Box a waste of time.
