I have been a long time committed fan of the Warhammer Universe and when this game orginally came out it was brilliant, despite leaving out some units etc.The expansion to the game is of a high calibur also, however, all of the new units, new interface, campaigns and Imperial Guard added are all very good and well, but the AI on the multiplayer skirmish or online is so difficult to combat.ALL computers (easy, standard, hard, etc.) go seriously crazy and build loads and I mean loads, right upto the sqaud caps of men and vehicles. The only difference between the easy and standard is that easy always run away when the force has made contact with some of your men,it has happened when I send one sqaud of Space Marines at them; and there 10 squad plus force runs away! And its not to always get to a strategic point, they just run.Relic need to release a patch to fix this really badly, the skirmish is to boring on easy because they never attack and Way WAY too hard on anything else like standard+, which is a real shame because I really want to play the game but can't without constant concerntration and it gets really tiresome, I want to play and relax in my spare time not sweat buckets and almost die unless my strategies are perfect, especially when I fight standards. The rest of the game is really good, 1 new unit for each army, and Imperial Guard who are good when they get there grenade launchers which definately need a balancing patch because they can take out legions of men with one sqaud, this doesn't happen with the cultists grenades, but are similar in price? If you enjoyed the first Dawn of War you should definiately get this one, its a must have for fans, Relic are always bound to release a future patch so hopefully these small problems will be fixed. Its not to put you off the gaming experience but it definately can when on skirmish or multiplayer unfortunately.

Finally a good RTS again! It has hard counters, so you need special weapons to defeat vehicles, some units wipe out light infantry, etc. This means you have to scout and compose your forces accordingly, and that the tech tree race actually means something - get some units out that he has no counter against, and you win.The main resource comes from capturing strategic points on the map, so skirmishes with the enemy start almost right away. Turtling is hardly an option. Also since squads can reinforce lost team members, you get much more hectic and constant fighting.Additions like morale (some weapons like flamers do heavy morale damage and with no morale the troops fight very poorly),utilizing terrain cover which gives infantry cover bonuses, actual melee combat that can tie down ranged units, powerful leaders, and many special abilities give this game even more strategic depth. The excellent graphics, including very graphic melee kill animations (from space marines gutting their opponent to demons ripping their foes apart bloodily), and the very cool W40K universe only adds to the game. There are many replays on the net to download for entertainment and learning the tricks of the best players out there. There are some people who voice concers over the AI being overpowered. That is by no means true. A good RTS player should be able learn to beat Insane AI once he gets a good build order and grasp of the units' strengths and weaknesses - it's a challenge but very doable to achieve 100% win rate. Harder is literally a walk in the park where you can be slow and mess up several times and still win.

well i loved the original dawn of war(DOW) and loved so much i couldnt stop playing it. now lets start with the goodsGOODS1.all sides have a strong new unit but only one2.factions are still unique and diffrent from eachother3.gives you the option to have all the dead bodies stay on the field4.the combo moves just got even coolerBADS1.Imperial guard (new faction) suck okay heres the profe i do LAN play against my brother i thrashed him all the time with my strategys but then i play imperial guard every strategy ruined by either incredibly low moral there weak life and there mysterious flaw of not being able to kill wraithlords quickly with anything but the bainblade (my brother plays eldar)now next once me and 3 friends did a big LAN game all 4 of us and against an ork AI set to hard and we couldnt win then me and my brother (an amature begginer at the game) fought an imp guard set to insane and wonNOW HOW DID THAT HAPPEN???Anyway the imp guard flaw doesnt ruin the game buy it and you will not be dissapointed but you should get dark crusade as well because that adds 2 new factions NECRONS AND TAU EMPIRE bringing the number of factions to 7 so only buy with dark crusade good game a must buy...

As the title suggests this is the best rts i've played since aoe and it really is. Instead of age of empires's single man creation method it has a very useful unitary creation method (creating units of soldiers instead of one at a time), which means creating an army has become a whole lot quicker and easier. Also another convenience is the fact that there are only two resources to get (requisition and power), instead of age of empires which sees you collecting gold, wood, rock, coin...The best thing i find about dawn of war is that there is more customisation in your army than in most rts games, as you can create your own colours for your army, give them different banners and names and there are more specific upgrades for units from different weapons to different psycic abilities. Its only 'let down' is that in some cases, if you move troops 'en masse' through the narrow streets of a city, then they often pick odd routes and get split up. but this has never really affected the gameplay to much extent.Overall, this is a fantastic game of it's genre and if you are into this sort of thing, i emplore you to buy it.

This expansion while a worthy addition to the original classic is not without it's flaws. Some of the AI is not what it should be, with the skirmish mode suffering the most as the imperial guard seem incapable of producing anything armoured until a minimum of 30 minutes into a battle. Also you'll often find your new fire dragons standing around as they refuse to acknowledge their core targets like buildings or vehicles until right on top of them, they really need specific targets. But that said, these problems will likely be patched and fixed in short order and the campaign is a joy, the later missions, especially on the higher difficulties will definatly have you fighting for your life.As with the original the game comes alive online, but even without, this is a good way to add new life to the original, with changes in the tech tree and tactics to keep you guessing a while longer.

Ive got all three of the DOW games out at the moment, and I have to say this Is the hardest to start off by far. However I have never let this put me down. It was actually a welcome change after completing The original and it is a thoroughly enjoyable game. Also Being able to pick Between two different campaigns at the start of the game is alot better than just the one sided campaign of it's predecessor. The Imperial Guard units are awesome and are a lot more fun to play than the Space Marines, because they sound and act more like real people, not killing machines, so you actually get more attached to them and try to keep them alive for longer. In A Nutshell a brilliant game, just dont play it before Playing DOW first, The difficulty of the missions is of a different calibre to DOW and you may find it a bit too difficult...

When I found out that there was an expansion for Dawn of War I was quite excited, as the first one was such a good game.Winter Assault offers a choice of two campaigns: Order (good) and Disorder (bad). They are all well put together and make you want to play on to see what is in the next mission. There is a new team in this one called the Imperial Guard, they are quite weak in life and morale but have strong tanks and buildings. The online aspect of the game is much of the same except there is an 'easy patch' way to download the neccesary patches essential for multiplayer games. All in all a good game. Plus the units are MUCH more balanced than in the first one.

Tis is possibly the best strategy game evr the graphics the campaign it is all amazing. the best part has to be the imperial guard as allies they are great cannon fodder. i myself am a warhammer player and i always chose space marines but dont htink trhat they are the only race they have done it so well that every race has its own weaknesses. this is a great game get it at all costs . and with the latest expansion darkcrusade coming out the series is getting better and better.o and the graphics are suppurb they have even added condensation so that when someone breathes it comes out as condensation.

Got this after playing DOW:40K, my brother was telling me about all the cool new things.Had plenty of massive online battles with him.Played the normal missions, not them all though as once you get online you just can't stay away, just wish I had more time on my hands these days to get more gaming in, but kids will do that to you. Can't wait for the next expansion though, looks even better.Frazer

Ah theres nothing like sending hundreds of guardsmen to there deaths and know that you have hundreds more behind them. seriously the guard ROCK! i played the first game and the few levels that you get to use the guard with i loved. They have the best tanks and theme in the game.i also liked the new campaign system which was a great improvement on the previous game. you should get this game!

24.9.2005

And been playing ever since. The guard have real character and it's great to see sentinels and great armies levelling out the battlefield, so all doubts about the guardWith all the new maps, enhancements and solid campaign this is a worthy upgrade of the best computer version of 40K ever.

26.9.2009

This game is more challenging then Dawn of War as you are playing as Guards instead of Space Marines and they are not as well armoured and their weapons aren't as good against heavy units. I like the way that the campaigns are spilt between two different races.

I'm not a rabid gameplayer but the few games I do enjoy are all RTS and pretty old. This is my favourite and I was delighted to get a hold of original media for it.

19.4.2016
