Let me start by saying how good this game looks, I know judging a game on it's looks is the exact opposite of what should happen, but in this case it's worth it. This is a game which unashamedly sells itself on it's handsome face. Cyan Worlds have once again outdone themselves in creating a world which is both immersive and fantastical, and it looks brilliant. Photo-real? no, but in places not far off.So ok, now that we've got that out of the way what's the actual game like? Fans of the previous Myst games will know what to expect, a series of different settings, each with it's own challenges and puzzles to solve and story being driven by journals left by previous visitors. The worlds, or ages, presented to the player each have seven "journey cloths" which act as save points, but collecting them also give a reason for many of the puzzles. The puzzles themselves are generally simple, the real challenge being in working out why things do what they do. If you are a fan of the older games, then you won't be dissapointed (several nods to all three are scattered through the game), but newcomers should not be put off by the history. There really is something here for everyone. Now to the bad points. First to make the most of the game you really will need a reasonable machine, my 1Ghz, 128Mb ram with a GeForce 2 ran the game, but slowed down horribly in places. The slow pace of this game makes it playable, but still irritating. Lastly, the controls. When locked into the more familiar 1st person view, this game feels similar to an RPG like Morrowind. The trouble stems from the games default 3rd person perspective, which unfortunately looks infintely better. When in this view, the controls are confusing, clunky and at times more challenging than the puzzles. Which is a shame given the, otherwise, excellent game on offer.More than worth the asking price, especially if you can get used to those 3rd person controls.

Quick review here. NOTE: I've got the "normal" version - not this collectors edition...Ignore any reference to Live - they didn't make the numbers, so it's been shelved. However the offline game as sold here, is a beautifly crafted world of the usual Myst style and standard.I've read some other reviews, and wanted to add a few points:* You can't die. You may have to do something again though.* The 3rd person view - odd at first, but when you are used to it, it's the only way to play IMHO.* You can't get trapped in the offline game, after the update is applied (can't comment on the non-updated version).* The puzzles in URU are great - and while not easy - would you want them to be?* SOUND: Worth a mention. An awesome ambient soundtrack. That's my opinion anyhow!

Uru has kept me captivated since I bought it in early December. The game itself is worth every penny as the puzzles are intriguing and the graphics as astounding as one would expect from Cyan. (I have played it three times now.} The bonus for me, since the demise of Live, has been the support from the forum. I have learned so much more about the game while waiting for the expansion pack - which will be free for everyone who bought the CD. Anyone who has enjoyed the Myst series will be delighted with this latest addition to the series. (The Live part was also excellent but has been 'put to bed' with the hope that someday it may return.)

Actually the game works absolutely fine on my PIII 600MHz with a bog standard GeForce 256 DDR DVI card (GeForce I). Just needs the GFX drivers to be at least as new as the game.If you haven't already, buy this game! If you like adventure games, puzzles, Myst, exploring the scenery during the quiet moments in FPS's, beautiful and original dynamic environments, buy this game! The packaging of this edition is really nice, and with UntilUru you can recapture the online experience too. Did I mention you should buy this game? ;)

I've bought this game not so long ago (3 weeks), wonderfull game. It may be a bit diferent than the other Myst games, but it's good in his own way. I'm not happy with the fact that Uru Live has stopped, but the online expansion set(s) are something superb!
