This drive works beautifully. It's extremely quick (being ssd + thunderbolt) and is built robustly enough to carry about with a laptop.I was very pleased to see that it has the option of both USB 3 and thunderbolt, which makes it much more universally compatible with machines other than macs.I use the drive as an external boot drive, which it does admirably. Obviously it is completely silent being an ssd, and the read and write speeds are both outstanding.The case is very slightly more textured than a macbook - which I imagine most buyers of this might use it in conjunction with, but it looks completely fine sat next to it, not out of place or anything.The cable connectors seems pretty sturdy too,
Bought to replace the internal standard spindle hard drive of my 2012 iMac as the main boot drive. Excellent speed and throughput either via Thunderbolt or USB 3.0, although USB 3 does have a slight edge but without trimming capabilities. Fits in with the Aluminium look of the iMac and does not generate excessive heat compared to some other external hard drive setups due to passive powering (self powered via Thunderbolt or USB Interface). Now have a operating system boot time of less than 12 seconds compared to the original internal hard drives time of 55 seconds. Very fast but could be faster.I was looking for a HD enclosure with Thunderbolt 2 but they're all very expensive with no HD included (or a small HD). I have 1TB SSD from Crucial which is very fast, but in a USB 3 case it looses so much speed.Solution : I bought this, open it up and removed the HD board, open my Crucial SSD and move the board to this Transcend.... Faster and larger drive. Write = 360 MB/S & Read = 380 MB/sNB : i did have to remove a little aluminium from the inside of the outer casing for it to fit, but 2mins and a Dremel sorted that.
Product is fantastic, probably not the ultimate in speed but definitely the best for the price. As a replacement boot drive via thunderbolt on an iMac 2011 running El Capitan it provides a whole new experience again. Allows the use of the internal drive as a media drive keeping everything speeding along, Photoshop is lightening quick and even after effects and Premiere get a significant speed boost from the dual drive with SSD effect.The only disappointment came from the Amazon Prime delivery service.
Breathed new life into my iMac. My 2011 model had become very sluggish over the last year or so, so much so that it had become somewhat irritating to use. This device has completely transformed the computer; now it boots in circa 10 secs, Office apps launch in 3 bounces rather that 20+, altogether a much better experience. Cheaper options are available if the computer has USB 3.0 but for Macs with only a Thunderbolt port this works a treat. No issues so far, recommended.
I purchased this drive in order to create a fusion drive on my iMAC. This has made a significant difference to the speed of starting up and loading applications. The Transcend SSD has performed faultlessly since installation.Note for this type of use on a Mac you do want the Thunderbolt interface for connection as it allows the Mac to better control the drive and gives better transfer speeds.
Initially had an issue where the drive would just disconnect and restart OS X - I had done a clone of my HD to the SSD. I resolved this by doing a clean install - the machine is 5 years old and has had three iterations of OS X installed so you could reasonably expect issues with the OS. The machine is now perfect and extremely fast - great product!
Backups' Mac os x Time-Machine & Carbon Copy Cloner, I formatted my 256GB to 3 partitions with CCC on one and TM on another with a smaller partition used for my 33GB iTunes and few other media.Works well but does heat-up when under stress.Pleased with this SSD and hope it lasts the test of time as worried by the heat of the case aspect.
Connected this to my Macbook Air via the supplied Thunderbolt cable and its is just Plug and Play. I set it up as an optional boot disk and it works really well. Speed seems slightly faster than the installed Apple drive. Time will tell on reliability, but currently I'm very pleased with this purchase.
